Stopped by on a Saturday morning and opted to order online ahead, luckily we did because when we came in to pick up our order, there was a line maybe 3-4 people ahead that hadn't ordered or been seated yet. Maybe they were short staffed this day? By the time a worker came over and asked if anyone was here for online pick up, I was the only one luckily so I was able to get our order and go. We got a smoothie, two burritos and the biscuits and gravy. One of our burritos were on the oily side and was dripping a lot of oil when we ate it. The salsa that comes with them is a nice touch! Heading to Waimea Beach and looking for a quick bite. We spot Kono's with great reviews and who doesn't like a breakfast burrito? We find parking in the lot nearby as it is quite large so that was smooth. Go around the corner and find Kono's...no line and there are tables/seats available outside (be prepared to dine with chickens) and even inside. We order the Haleiwa, Waimea, and Local Bomber burritos and this is where things turn. We wait...and wait...and wait..approximately 1 hour for our food! Wow. I get folks are on island time but this is crazy. That said the burritos are quite tasty... so can't complain about that. If you are in a hurry (and yes we wanted to get to the beach early to score parking) then you may want to look at alternatives. read more

My dad and I were driving all around the parking lot looking for this spot, but it's along the road so just park and walk around and you'll find it like we did. We sat outside and I noticed a lot of flies and chickens which was kind of annoying! Luckily they have indoor seating! I ordered the plate lunch and it arrived while I was at my car grabbing a sweater to eat inside. My dad said the rooster literally jumped on my plate and grabbed a bite before being shooed away by the restaurant worker. I haven't been here in a while, and was in the area, soI decided to stop here for breakfast this morning because I was specifically craving the biscuits and gravy bomber. Unfortunately, the entire experience was incredibly disappointing. I ordered 2 bombers and a smoothie. While waiting, I overheard what appeared to be the manager tell an employee in the back that they needed more eggs. I get it, things run out and food has to be prepped. What I don't get is allowing customers to continue waiting without saying anything. I waited nearly 30 minutes for my food, and at no point did anyone let me or the other customers waiting know that there would be a significant delay because they were waiting on eggs. Had someone simply said, "We're waiting on eggs, so your order is going to take longer than usual," I could have decided whether I wanted to wait or get a refund and go somewhere else. Instead, we were left sitting there with no communication while the manager repeatedly had to remind the kitchen that she needed eggs. After that entire wait, my order was also made incorrectly. I ordered a biscuits and gravy bomber, but I was initially handed the biscuits and gravy plate. To their credit, they remade it as a bomber quickly once I pointed out the mistake, but by then I had already been waiting close to half an hour. What bothered me most was the response when I told the manager that, in the future, customers should be informed when something like this is going to cause such a long wait. She completely ignored me. No apology, no acknowledgment, nothing. I also watched her handle bacon with her bare hands while preparing food, which was concerning to see. I work in food service myself, so I understand that things happen. Kitchens get backed up, ingredients run out, and orders occasionally get made incorrectly. Basic communication and customer service are super important when those things happen. If I know an order is going to be significantly delayed, I let the customer know so they can make an informed decision about whether they want to wait. And if a customer brings a legitimate concern directly to me, I at least acknowledge them and apologize for the inconvenience. A wait is one thing; leaving customers sitting there without any communication is another. With the prices being what they are now, nearly 30 minutes waiting without warning, an incorrect order, concerning food handling, and then being completely ignored when I raised a reasonable concern made this a really disappointing experience. read more

We shared a Pork Plate and there was plenty for both of us for a decent lunch. We arrived 10 minutes prior to closing yet they were very accommodating. They were out of rice, but provided potato's instead and I am so glad they did!! The potatoes are AMAZING!! The pulled pork is very tender, most, and flavorful! Some of the best pulled pork I've had!! The inside only has three small tables so we had to sit outside on a rainy day on damp chairs - absolutely not the fault of the restaurant - I only wish they had more indoor seating! We saw the line for this place, and it was out the door on New Years Day! We grabbed a coffee from another shop and placed an online order for takeout because we were not about to wait in that line. Our order only took about 15 minutes, which wasn't bad considering how long the line was. We got the local bombed and kalua pig sliders. I've been to another Kono's location and have always been a fan of their food. Everything is so flavorful. The local bomber hit the spot - portugese sausage is my favorite meat, so I knew this one was going to be good. The Kalua pork was moist and the perfect amount of salty. The staff was friendly and welcoming, though they did seem a little annoyed because it took our party of 4 a little bit to figure out what we were all going to order since we had never been there before. Thankfully, the place was slow when we got there, so we weren't in anyone's way when we were standing in front of the counter looking at the menu for a while. Once we ordered, we sat down and got our food quickly. One of the coolest things about this place is their tattoo wall! If someone gets their flying pig logo tattooed, they get 25% off for life. I was working in the north shore and my colleague suggested taking us the breakfast at Kono's. I've seen them before but never had the chance to go. The location is on the small side. But the flavor it packs almost explodes out the door. We got there right before the rush. The 4 of us got there as people were leaving. When we left, more than triple the amount of people were waiting to sit. Most ordered and were waiting on their food. The guys who work here are pretty quick. We each got the chuns burrito. The choices are really good but played it safe for the first time going. Definitely big boy certified! They give a lot. Grease can drip so beware. There was a line, so be prepared to wait to order and for your meal to be prepared. There are hand flow seats inside picnic tables outside as well as a few chairs. The restaurant is lacking in cleanliness, the staff were friendly and menu had various items. We tried the breakfast burritos, you get what you see on the menu, very basic/plain. I feel like even just putting the burrito in a pan/on a grill once stuffed with all of the ingredients would send it over the top.
