It's taken me a while to put together reviews of all of our locations during our stay on the island. First, I'd recommend a reservation (especially during their dinner service) We were excited to try this on the evening of our second night. We were able to sit outside, and take it all in as the sun was setting. Our server was awesome. He made some great recommendations. Started off with a yummy cocktail "Forgetting Sarah Marshall". I loved the steamed clams and the baked yams and hubby loved his NY Strip Loin. We returned the last day of our stay for Sunday Breakfast Buffet. And again had the best service. So many options available, and we were able to partake in the fresh fruit, pastries, oatmeal bar, freshly prepared omelets. I really wanted to like this place. The location is beautiful and the service was ok but the food was just not good and that is the reason for the mixed reviews. I wanted to like it and the menu sounds creative but the flavors are hit and miss. The Kahuku Corn Tagliatelle sounds like it would be good but the flavors just don't match. It tasted like cream of corn soup on pasta. The best thing we ate was the sour dough bread. At $15 for 4 slices it is not cheap but it was very good. 3.5 stars for the location but they need to do better. read more

We arrived a bit late due to traveling in from Honolulu. Checked into the hotel around 7:00pm . By the time we dropped off our bags and changed it was 8:00pm. We attempted to grab dinner here. The male hostess started to say let me see what I can find but the female hostess cut him off and said we have nothing open. Even though over half the tables were empty. She said we close in 1 hour and do not have any more openings. No worries , we ended up going to Lei Lei's which was as also on property but a short walk. Super friendly staff and great food. The next morning we decided to try Alaia again for breakfast and asked to sit outside but the same female hostess said it's very difficult to seat 5 outdoors. Note we were the 4th family in line when it opened . We opted for indoors as we thought we would get a round table , but she crammed us in a 4 top anyway. Food was hit or miss. The fresh made omelettes were fantastic. The rice in banana leaf also very good. The bacon was very crispy. The oatmeal dish for $17 came with 7 piece of small berries on top. Also over cooked as it was dry and needed some milk. The Greek yogurt was a bit on the sour side. Breakfast for 5 at over $225 is a bit pricey for the quality IMO. Expected more from the Ritz restaurant. Based on this experience, we ended up going to local food trucks for morning breakfast during our stay. read more

Not a lot of choices while in Turtle Bay. Great ambience; service is mediocre - Alaia is overpriced, food is not impressive - not your typical Ritz restaurant. We were ordering fish as a main course so wanted a "meat" appetizer- only option was the Beef Lettuce Cups. Super messy and not that interesting/flavorful. Ordered the Garden Beet Salad - beautiful presentation- but it basically was a bunch of arugula with a slight drizzle of a vinaigrette on top. Our server noticed and was kind enough to bring extra dressing. The fish special was delish, but couldn't make up for the lackluster of our previous dishes. I think if we weren't at a Ritz, I'd be more forgiving - but for the price we paid, this was a huge disappointment. read more

I came here for the breakfast buffet when my friend stayed overnight at the resort. They had cooked to order omelettes and cold and hot foods. Quality was excellent but the variety was average considering the price of the breakfast buffet. I think it's the nicest in North Shore but not as elaborate as the Waikiki ones. We dined here on the second night of our honeymoon, and the setting is absolutely beautiful. The ocean views are incredible and make for a really memorable atmosphere. The service was good overall, and we ordered the sourdough bread, shishito peppers, roasted chicken, and a few cocktails. Everything was well prepared and tasted great. Our only disappointment with the menu was that we expected to see more surf-and-turf or seafood-forward options, especially given the location. The part of the experience that left us a bit underwhelmed was how our celebration was handled. My husband mentioned to our server that we had just gotten married on July 11 and were celebrating our honeymoon. Later, the server brought us two glasses of champagne, which we assumed was a congratulatory gesture. We were surprised to find them added to our bill at the end of the meal. To be clear, we weren't expecting anything free or extravagant. It was simply confusing to have celebratory champagne brought to the table without it being presented as an ordered item. At a Ritz-Carlton, we expected a bit more personalization for a special occasion, even if it was just a handwritten note, a small dessert, or simply clearer communication. The inside is cute and cozy with its pristine modern look. The wait staff were very patient and friendly as soon as we walked in (shout out to Denise our server!) They have a limited menu, but we decided to try all sorts of dishes that night. My palette overall, preferred their house made sourdough and their Mile High Turtle Bay Pie (definitely recommend to try!). I stayed here for a staycation and we didn't want to go anywhere while we were there, so we opted for a sunset dinner here and it was mid to say the most. Our server was fine, but not Ritz Carlton service level... like it was almost like she was just going through the motions. Outside of that, the food was wildly overpriced and it was also just okay. The best part about this place was the view. We had the scallops and the kahuku corn tagliatelle and they were both blah. I was really excited about the tagliatelle and honestly, I could have made something better on my own. And it was almost $50 since I added shrimp to the dish. So good; this is my second time here and the staff are all super friendly and the food was so delicious, literally everything we got was good. Last time I got the fish but this time I had the cauliflower and the coconut sauce they service it with - omg, literally obsessed. I could drink it. So insane. We also got the fresh bread and loved the black salt in the butter, that made it. We also got shishito peppers (huge portion, could have fed four but it was just us two) and the pork tenderloin which was also great and coconut cake for dessert. Stuffed. Since the restaurant didn't open until 5pm, we hit the hotel lobby bar for a couple of drinks. We wanted to be punctual, so we showed up a few minutes before 5 to check in and the hostess had no problem with our early check-in + seating us immediately. I was a little annoyed when I could overhear the employees who were just sitting at the bar making comments about us showing up before 5. Other than that, this is a beautiful restaurant. Once we got seated, the customer service was pretty good. The extra help service was actually nicer than our main waiter. The menu is very limited. The food was great I'll say. They also did a good job with the presentation of their meals. Considering the location, the meals aren't terribly expensive. Not entirely sure if I'd ever come back here in the future. We are celebrating our engagement, and once the hotel found out, they truly went above and beyond to make us feel so special. From the moment we arrived at Alaia, we were treated like family. It's rare to feel that genuine warmth and care, but every single interaction here made our trip that much more memorable. Our server, Thomas, was absolutely phenomenal. He was so kind, attentive, and you could tell he genuinely loves what he does. Thomas made our night even more magical, surprising us with a few celebratory treats to honor our engagement -- such a thoughtful touch that we will never forget. As for the food -- it was incredible! We started with the sourdough bread, which was so fresh and flavorful. I ordered the mushroom truffle pasta, and honestly, it was some of the best pasta I have ever had. Creamy, rich, and absolutely perfect in every way. Service started off strong, but unfortunately the overall experience declined from there. I ordered an Old Fashioned, and it was noticeably watered down. If you prefer a stronger, well-balanced cocktail, this may not be the place for you. For appetizers, we ordered the sourdough bread, poke with wonton chips, and steamed clams. The "sourdough" bread was disappointing and seemed more like standard white bread. The wonton chips were greasy and lacked seasoning, while the poke was decent but not particularly memorable--I've had better from Foodland. The steamed clams, however, were excellent and easily the highlight of the starters. For our entrees, we ordered the Aliʻi Mushroom Tagliatelle and the USDA Prime Beef Tenderloin. The tagliatelle was flavorful and well executed. The tenderloin, on the other hand, was underwhelming. Serving a prime cut of beef with prominent grill marks and covering it with a heavy gravy seemed unnecessary. A quality steak should be able to stand on its own, and the excessive sauce took away from the natural flavor of the meat. For dessert, we chose Leialoha's Southern Banana Cream Pie. We were expecting a traditional slice of pie, but it was instead served in a cup, similar to a parfait. While presentation is subjective, the menu description felt somewhat misleading. For a restaurant located within the Ritz-Carlton, I expected a higher level of execution and attention to detail. While there were a few standout dishes, too many aspects of the meal fell short of expectations. Overall, I'd recommend saving your money and visiting 7 Brothers instead. read more

We had an incredible breakfast here! The Corn Flake Crusted French toast was fluffy and decadent, perfectly balanced with just the right amount of sweetness. French toast came with candied pecan syrup and mango whipped cream If you love French toast, you have to try this! We also tried the Crab Cake Benedict and it came with two crab cakes. It was rich, flavorful, and plenty of crab. Every bite felt like a treat! Drink from the bar were slow but delicious! (Expresso Martini was creamy, made up for the wait!) We were able to adjust our reservations to about an hour earlier because we got to the property early just to walk around. We spent some time shopping in the shops, taking some beautiful photos and just loving the area. We were super glad they could accommodate our request to be seated earlier. And with that request, we were able to actually sit outside with a phenomenal view of the ocean in sunset. It was perfect. Service was great. Staff were very attentive. We ordered a couple of cocktails. Can't go wrong with that! We ended up splitting a steak that was cooked perfectly, seasoned very well, and came with some vegetables and ordered a side of prawns. For the most part we were happy with Alaia, which is the main sit-down dining option at Turtle Bay Resort. Each of our entrees for dinner was well prepared with good portion sizes, and though it was satisfying I can't say it was spectacular and worth the resort prices. Like the tenderloin was a perfect medium rare but just a steak, accompanied by undercooked veggies. Furikake ahi was okay but needed a bit more kick or flavor in the sauce. Mushroom pasta was actually the most memorable, as was the desserts. The following morning I enjoyed their full buffet and my wife had their continental breakfast, but again it didn't feel quite worth the price. My daughter enjoyed her parfait and others in my party enjoyed their breakfast dishes, but again resort prices. I will say service for both dinner and breakfast was excellent, but they need to hire more people to clear and clean tables. read more

We booked this restaurant for celebrating our anniversary but the food and environment is much below our expectations for the amount you paid for. First, there is no reserved seating for special occasions or priority seating for staying at the bungalow. We were seated among tables of families with kids outside. Luckily the waitress is nice to move us to tables inside but soon later another family with baby were seated behind us even the place is not much occupied. Second the food just tastes okay. We had $60 crusted ahi and $48 pork chop, and none of them is amazing. Mixed bag of emotions after dining here so I'll jump right in... Pros: Gorgeous looking restaurant, really beautifully decorated and comfortable seating. The complimentary focaccia was served warm with whipped butter topped with black lava salt -- really excellent. Cons: Food was plated nicely, and tasted okay, but the prices of this average-ish food is INSANITY. Example: the $98.00 lobster curry. Isn't a curry at all, it only has a tiny bit of liquid barely resembling curry-like-taste on the bottom of the plate. Rice weird texture, not enough meat, and an overload of broccolini. If you remove the shell garnish you have a sad albeit gratuitously expensive plate. I know it's a resort but even so what you get for what you pay makes your head spin! Our server was dutiful but lacked enthusiasm. He had weird vibes, tbh. I was disenchanted to hear him tell us *and* all his tables the "most popular item on the menu" was the Tomahawk Steak in his intro spiel. (Which not-so-coincidentally is the most expensive item on the menu by far) Conclusion: GO TO LEI LEI'S (!!!) down by the golf course if possible. It's a 5-minute walk. The Turtle Bay Valets will even drive you down there in a golf cart if you ask. Much better food and service but also much more casual. read more

Meh, it was both underwhelming and incredibly expensive at the same time. All for an impromptu casual dinner on the hotel grounds. I got the pork chop, which was fine but had no business being just shy of $50. Wowsers. To top it off, we were sat near a cracked open door, and the door acted as a funnel for the ocean winds on this windy day. It was chilly on this day, even by non-Hawaiian standards, but for some reason, the staff didn't seem to have any urgency to remedy the situation. We could have easily been moved but for whatever reason they couldnt do it. It was less than half full. Get this - they offered us TOWELS so that we could wrap ourselves. How silly. They probably didn't think it was a big deal, because I know they are running around and feeling hot. But they should have tried sitting there for a few minutes. Disappointing breakfast buffet - BIG Decline We ate here years ago and it wasn't very good then. After returning recently, it's disappointing to say it has somehow gotten even worse. Most of the food on the buffet was cold, and it looked like it had been sitting out far too long. Trays were not being changed or refreshed in a timely manner, and the overall quality felt old and neglected. We also had to send back an order of potatoes twice, which is pretty hard to excuse at a breakfast buffet. For the price, the value is terrible. If you've been to Vegas or anywhere else that offers this type of dining experience, you'll immediately notice the difference in freshness, quality, and overall experience. Based on our visit, I honestly don't understand where some of the glowing reviews are coming from. We won't be returning. read more

How does a restaurant run out of pasta?? This tells me that the tagliatelle is not made in-house, fair enough. But again, HOW does a restaurant run out of PASTA?? At the start of dinner service at 6:00 pm, no less! Especially when it is the one and only pasta dish on their menu of all (9) entrees total?? Our party of 7 were staying at Turtle Bay Resort and this was where we planned (a birthday) dinner on our last night. While the ambiance and company were great, the food left SO MUCH to be desired. As mentioned above, at least 2-3 adults and 1 child in our group were set on ordering the tagliatelle so when our server informed us they were out, it was very disappointing. So as far as vegetarian options, it would've just left the cauliflower entree, which wasn't a desirable option for anyone in our party. My entree was the catch of the day special (mahi mahi) and this was... bland and mediocre. At $55, I expected more. The keiki menu only had the tagliatelle as a pasta option and AGAIN, when we were informed that they were out, there were no other non-meat options for children. The kid's steak frites was something you'd give your dog under the table - a few slices of (gristly) steak w/ a handful of fries - but with a $34 price tag. Additionally, the kids' meals were supposed to come with a starter of crudités and a scoop of ice cream for dessert - both which our two kids did not receive and we didn't realize it until after the meal ended. We pre-arranged for a birthday cake to come out at the end of the meal so it was nice that that that was executed just fine. Candles wouldn't stay lit due to the lovely North Shore winds, just an FYI. Two stars for our friendly server (even though he did forget the kids' stuff) and nice setting. I would NEVER come back here for the food. Even the focaccia bread served at the start was forgetful. The two restaurants at Turtle Bay Resort that I've dined at (other one being The Beach House) have been awful, I'm sorry to say. I'd suggest to resort guests that driving 20 minutes down Kamehameha Hwy to Foodland and hitting up their ready made foods or any of the local food trucks off the hwy are much better alternatives instead. read more

He's just simply said no then proceeded to ask if we would like the prawns with the vegetarian pasta when we ordered. I wish when we had called to make reservations and then they had called to confirm and they knew that we had two vegetarians they would have let us know that they have very few options. They brought us a little cake for my parents 50th wedding anniversary Literally after we had ordered and eaten three desserts and we're about to stand up and leave, we had lingered for a long time, they had lots of opportunity. Having stayed at the Ritz Carlton almost exclusively, from my perspective the service was was not up to RC standards, service was slow and the hot dishes came out cold. The avocado in the poke had gone bad. Given that my children were tired and not wanting to be there anymore I did not seek a resolution nor was I offered one after saying my dish came out cold. read more

Absolutely gorgeous views and amazing focaccia bread, but the service and food was horrible. For the price they are charging, their food is shit. I'd be expecting food like this to be $10-$15 but they are charging $60-$100. Super upsetting and unsatisfying. The two stars are for the views and appetizers. Honestly you cannot mess up fresh ahi poke in Hawaii. It does not require any cooking. For mains we had the fresh catch (which was a red snapper that night), seared ahi and pork chops. The red snapper was cooked poorly. The skin is supposed to be seared to lightly crunchy and the meat light and juicy, but it just tasted like meh. Meat was over cooked, bland and the skin was not seared enough. The vegetable chosen for this dish was also weird. With a boiled taro on the bottom of the fish and bitter veggies floating on the side... it was terrible. Pork chop was chewy and bland. The seared ahi had only 6 pieces and random veggies on the side. The waiter also messed up our order so that one person's order came out before everyone else's food. His salad also came with the main which was weird. If you are ever on the north shores of Hawaii and want to have a nice fancy meal, just go next doors to Roy's beach house instead. Wow. Just wow. Our July visit made me hope no one used my last review to make a decision. We have been here many times for breakfast and it had been a wonderful place we saved for last "to surprise" our off-island guests. Alaia went from being a very special breakfast/brunch with amazing dishes from staff with aloha, to an okay restaurant with a buffet-option that included lattes, to a buffet-only restaurant that does not even include a cup of coffee or professional service, and all in record time! I'm not one to complain about prices on Oahu, but I will make reservations at The Kahala or Halekulani next time we have a group in and save our north shore brunch for Haliewa Joe's or Smoking Boar. Our server this time was not typical. I don't know if she mistook me for someone else or thought she saw or heard something differently and was reacting but either way, her annoyance showed the whole time. Overall the restaurant was really nice, a great spot for "date night", but honestly felt a little overpriced (can't really expect anything different at a north shore sit-down restaurant though). We had a really nice evening out and did really enjoy all the food we ate. We hadn't made a reservation (the place hadn't seemed super super busy the few nights previously that we'd passed by), and they were a little weird about it, made us feel kind of weird about it... but it all worked out in the end. They were able to seat us still right away (which made sense to us since, like I said, I wasn't that busy...) and after we were seated the service was great! I found myself comparing it to Roy's at the same location, and I'd prefer dining at Roy's to get the most value for my money.
