Bart is awesome! I had a tattoo that I wanted to "update". I had it done shortly after my dad passed away 15 years ago. In my grief and haste, I couldn't quite describe the banner that was like my dad's to the tattoo artist and never was quite content with how it turned out. In the interim time, I've been able to find some pics that I was able to use a magnifying glass and get a better idea plus with all the stuff on the internet now, was able to find pics of the old-style tattoos (he had gotten his done in the late 50s in Japan while he was serving in the Air Force. I was a little concerned with how covering the one there would turn out. Well, Bart did an outstanding job. When I came in to talk to him about what I wanted done, he took a picture of it, pulled it up on his notebook and sketched what I was describing and actually showing me how he would cover the old one. Although at the time, I was wondering what the heck I was doing as it hurt way more than the first time, I couldn't be more pleased. You can't even tell where the other one was. Bart is professional and very knowledgeable. I've had several compliments on the tattoo and in particular how "clean" the lines are. I can't recommend him enough! BTW, it wasn't letting me share a pic of my tattoo, so I changed my profile pic to a picture of the tattoo. I started going to the Crimson Hilt when it was still Newspeak a few years ago. I first went in to get a substantial chest piece and was very nervous and unsure of what I wanted aside from a few ideas. Alex was the first artist I met with and was very enthusiastic and welcoming off the bat so I decided to have him design my piece. Throughout all the pain and blood birthed a gorgeous tattoo and I was blown away with the results. I quickly had him do a half sleeve for me, a piece on the back of my neck, large thigh piece as well as some little "bangers" (as he puts them) scattered about my skin. He is extremely personable and professional and has never hesitated to invite me in whenever I get the itch for some new ink. People stop me on the street and admire his artwork, all of his pieces are his own design with a few suggestions from me, and I always refer people and friends to him and the Crimson Hilt crew. The shop is clean and cool with hardwood floors and a red and black color scheme and the tunes are always playing making for a very comfortable atmosphere. Every artist housed here has their own personal style, each bringing their own thing to the table. A friend was visiting me in Denver when we decided to get "matching" themed tattoos. She found this place by accident (she got her hair cut next door) and we're so happy she did. Between the two of us, we were in the shop 4 times within a week and a half, talking to artists and getting tattooed. Charlie (C. W.) took care of us each time. He was friendly, gracious and just an all around good guy. We walked in with only ideas and he gave us exactly what we were looking for. It had been 16 years since my last tattoo and really wasn't sure what to expect nowadays. Charlie took the time to really listen to my very different ideas and put them all together perfectly. I couldn't be happier with his work! Absolutely clean and professional shop and atmosphere. I can't say much about the other artists (as I only interacted with one) but I can definitely say that Charlie's professionalism, beautiful work and graciousness has got me excited about the prospect of future tattoos. I received my first tattoo from Enrique 10 years ago. I had a modern oil painting/ album cover that I wanted to capture on my body. Enrique went above and beyond. The tattoo covers my shoulder cap and down onto the middle of my bicep, so the translation wasn't easily replicated onto a flat surface, and yet it's perfect! The color is still so vibrant and the lines are incredible. I invested in a second piece by Enrique some years later, this time I asked him to create a piece that reflected his own personal influence, and he created a beautifully vibrant sugar skull. Enrique's work is truly brilliant. Don't just take my word for it, go visit his shop. I just need to say, James Dean is an incredible artist! From what he does with his roses on woodwork to the art he tattoos on individuals, his skills and creativity are bar none. I have an owl done by him that embodies my inner geek and was also a cover up of something that was originally pretty dark. His ability to cover it while still keeping the intricate details was awe-inspiring. I'm constantly getting compliments and I hope that of the many I've referred to him, at least a few have gone. James puts so much of his heart, if not all of it, into his work that it makes it extremely difficult to not appreciate him as an individual and an artist. Enrique is an OUTSTANDING artist! I love his shop because in addition to his tattoo work, he has a lot of his canvas artwork on display from his substantial body of work.The first tattoo I got from him -10 years ago - is a beautifully designed, vibrantly colored sugar skull with marigolds and other personally significant totems. I went in this weekend for a tattoo and was INSANELY nervous--like, sweating, hands shaking, etc. When I met Jamison, he immediately put me at ease. He was great about working with the image I brought in and addressing my sizing/placement/color concerns.
