Dave in the service department is a rock star. I am pretty needy when it comes to my car, and every single time I called to check on the progress of my repairs (which was a lot, usually once a day) he was more than happy to explain everything that was going on. I had an issue with corporate VW, which has been rapidly declining in customer service as of late, and Dave fought for me to make sure they could do the repairs necessary. I have purchased cars from Crestmont in the past, and can honestly say I never had a single issue with any of them. Purchasing from another dealer out of convenience was a huge mistake, a car I bought from Reydel in Edison (my current 2019 Jetta) and a car from three county in lyndhurst (2009 Jetta Wolfsburg) both had issues. Every time, I brought those cars to Crestmont service and they fixed them the right way and didn't charge me anywhere near what the other dealers quoted me. Needless to say, I've learned my lesson. I will only use Crestmont when purchasing or servicing a vehicle because they have NEVER disappointed. I have been a loyal customer with Crestmont Volkswagen for over 20 years. Both of my wife's VW's have always been serviced there. She recently had repair work done there totaling just over $2,000.00. I asked them to give us some type of loyal custoner discount. They would not budge in the price at all, giving us the excuse that the paperwork was already printed out. Since we cannot get there to pick up the car during normal business hours, I asked if they would take a credit card over the phone and do a lockout. They said since the price was so high, they would not allow that without a signed authorization form! In the 20 years of taking my wife's car there, I have never EVER had to fill out any type of authorization form for a credit card payment, and we have paid over the phone many times before. Perhaps this new requirement was because I had the audacity to ask for a discount after the paperwork was filled out. This is how Crestmont VW treats its long time loyal customers. I suggest that if you are in the market for a VW, visit any other dealership but Crestmont. This is not how you do customer service. The Crestmont salesperson promised an out the door price of $39381.63, which was confirmed both by email and text. Less than three hours before I was to pick up my car, said salesperson called and said that he had made a "mistake" adding up the numbers because "he had a lot going on" the day he first made the offer to me. And that the price should really be $2000 MORE than the agreed upon price - $41381.63. He said that he had included the $2000 rebate twice by accident. However, how can a veteran salesperson make this kind of mistake? Isn't it his job to check and double check numbers that he presents to customers? Shouldn't he know the price points, invoice amount, fees and profit margins of the vehicles that he sells? It is nearly impossible to believe the "mistake" explanation of events. More likely that this is nothing less than deceptive, unethical, and the epitome of dishonest business practice. If this really were a mistake, the stand-up move would have been to honor the price. However, salesperson and his manager wouldn't even consider this. I paid a deposit and entered into a good faith agreement with Crestmont VW. But the faith was severely misplaced. read more

Their service department awful. I bought my brand new car there 2 years ago. They've sent me home with my transmission concerns without a thorough evaluation and only test drive for 2.5 miles. This time, burning oil and blowing black smoke. Again they were ready to send me on my way saying they didn't find anything visually. Got my diesel mechanic son involved. Long/short, he knew they were jerking me around. They had to take my engine apart to fix the problem and did some update or something on my transmission. I began looking for a VW in December 2023. I drove the Atlas and the Atlas Crossport. Loved the Atlas Crossport annd wanted to go ahead with purchasing. The credit manager, who had been in his office during the entire discussion time, conveniently disappeared when I completed my credit application. I was told that I could put a FULLY REFUNDABLE deposit on a vehicle and it would be no problem to get the color that I desired. The credit manager was unavailable and they would get back to me the next business day. The following business day, I heard "crickets". Found the vehicle in the color I wanted on my own and made my deal through another dealer. After requesting a refund twice in writing, I went through my credit card company and it is now THIRTY-FIVE days later and my card company still has received NOTHING back. They claimed to have lost my paperwork when my husband called this past Monday and asked for my credit card number, exp date, CVV # again. Hoping that I would actually have received my credit by NOW, I called to follow up with the CC company. NOTHING. I would NEVER recommend buying from this dealer. An experience that could have been a minor hiccup will be resulting in me calling the Better Business Bureau and lodging a formal complaint. THIEVES!!!! read more

I bought a brand new 2017 VW Jetta from a Crestmont, Pompton Plains New Jersey. First off, I have been dealing with Toyota over 10 years and trusted my salesman DJ. I just wanted to have my VW again. It turns out that in most parts of the US going to a dealership is painful nevermind walking out with a brand new car and knowing (or thinking) you know that you were ripped off. I never felt that way with DJ. He seemed pretty honest and would lay out the cards before I made any decision. He is very patient. Anyway, I ended up at the VW same owner as of the Toyota dealership only that honesty did not play a role in the sale at all. I was offered one price for my Toyota Camry that I was trading in and the day of signing it was $600.00 dollars difference. Yes, you know it, it did not benefit me. My saleswoman seemed surprised and said her manager must have changed it. She had no idea he did that. Well, I have been in sales all my life and if I have a client buying anything at all and they need to sign off on it that I will go through the contract with a fine-tooth comb. The last thing I want to do is rip off a client that trusts me. Plus, how do you live with yourself knowing you are committing fraud by telling them one thing and entering other information on the contract that they didn't agree to. Everyone will know what I am talking about when I say at the end of the car deal you believe what the salesperson is telling you and just want to leave the place with your new car that was a great deal. So after you leave certain things start popping into your head like the saleswoman seemed to make her self scarce while you were sitting with the finance person. Not even a check-in. Also, I started to think why when I asked to speak with DJ it was always he was off. You know why he was off because they only had me come in on his days off. I thought about my whole experience at the dealership and realized how they lied and cheated on the contract. I looked at the contract and could not believe how they ripped me off. I went back the next day, the finance guy said that Capital One mandates certain coverages and I said let's call them. He said the person he was working with was not in. I went to the hallway and called Capital One and guess what they did not mandate the extra services, coverage, or charges. I can turn off the car while it is not in the park gear and it actually rolls and a few times almost harmed a person. The service department is an absolute joke and it starts at the top with their so called "manager" Bob Gross. Unprofessional and disrespectful beyond words. I dropped of my '16 Golf R at night for what should've been routine warranty work with any competent dealership. I go to pick up the car the next day and noticed wheel damage that clearly happened there as you can tell from the discoloration between the freshly damaged area and the rest of the wheel. Multiple dealership employees there at the time agreed that the damage was obviously recent and while the car was in their possession. The service manager who wasn't even there denied responsibility and referred to an Inspection Report that was written in pencil claiming the damage was existing despite the evidence clearly proving otherwise. His counter argument was "We don't damage cars and you're just trying to make a quick $500". Surely not the type of company I would ever want to do business with again. We have bought two GTI's, a Tiguan, a Touareg, and two Golf R's from Jack Daniels VW in Fair Lawn, NJ as well as a 4Runner TRD Pro, Tundra TRD Pro, and FJ Cruiser Trails Team Edition from Prestige Toyota in Ramsey with nothing but positive experiences. Do not but a VW. I own a 2016 Sportwagen and the wiring and the heat-shield were eaten by small animals because it's covered in a plant based covering they find delicious. I have to say that I am very disappointed with the Dealership. Was interested in a CPO vehicle. Noticed some damage and decided to have my local shop do a Pre Purchase Inspection (PPI). The Carfax said no accidents reported. After my shop did the PPI, there was evidence that the car had been in a major accident and the dealership was selling the vehicle as if an "Excellent" rating on KBB. When I asked if the dealer would fix the damaged items and reduce the selling price to complete the sale, the sales manage sent me a one line email and said "No Thanks". Few days later, the Sales Manager did respond, however I decided to purchase elsewhere as they were not willing to address my concerns. Especially the brakes having only a few thousand miles of life on them. I appreciated the response, but it was a few days later after the "No Thanks" one liner. read more

Ugh, I can only comment on the Service Department. I took my GTI (8,000 miles) in for a noise coming from the engine area. They needed the car for a day which I understand. However they don't have loaner cars so I had to enlist a friends help (not cool). A day later I go back and they tell me I have a crack in my engine block and that it had to be replaced which could have cost thousands. I asked if I could see the crack and they told be the car wasn't on the lift anymore. So I took my car to another dealership that was more than happy to put my car on a lift so that I could look for the crack. 3 technicians and myself looked for a half hour straight and found nothing. Turns out that the noise I was hearing was a loose ignition coil. I replaced it at the second dealership for $30 total. Crestmont Volkswagen lost my trust and my business. read more

Hi, I'm Mike. I'm a new Crestmont VW customer. I purchased a bottle green, beige top and interior 2017 VW Beetle convertible in the last week of September. Since I purchased the car I've had the gas cap light come on 3 times and the check engine light twice. After the gas cap light came on the first time, I made sure to tighten the cap properly. I don't understand why it keeps coming on. The second time the check engine light came on, I rushed over to Crestmont service dept. to have them look at the problem. As everyone knows, a check engine light can be serious or trivial. I was greeted by the assistant service manager at 3:55 saying the techs leave in 5 mins. So I have a check engine light on, and they weren't going to look at it. After insisting the car be looked at, which is a 5 min computer check, the assistant service manager sullenly agreed to look at it himself. I didn't need the sullenness or the attitude of the techs are leaving in 5 mins. The mark of superb customer service is to do everything you can to help. There was no, we can't look at it today let's try and get you a loner car and look at it tomorrow, just the techs leave in 5 mins. Not noteworthy customer service. The general manager assured that the car was looked at properly and it turned out to be only a moderate problem that I could drive home safely with. As I write this on 10/17/17, the car has been dropped off and will be looked at on 10/18/17. I change cars from a Mini Cooper convertible that I felt was unreliable to a Beetle convertible that has an emissions problem within the first 20 days and 1000 miles. Let me start off my saying that I am VERY meticulous about my car. I pretty much inspect my car every time I walk up to it. I LOVE my candy white 2014 GLI. I brought it into Crestmont for it's mandatory 10,000 mile check up/oil change. I dropped it off in the morning, WITHOUT a scratch on my bumper, and picked it up later that night WITH a significant scratch/chip in the paint. It was the first thing I saw when I walked up to the car. The service manager had already left for the evening, so I left my complaint with the receptionist working that night. I received a call the next morning from one of the service guys saying I needed to bring in my car so that their manager could see the scratch for himself. I took my car in the following week for them to inspect/fix the scratch. I waited 2 hours, only to have my car returned to me looking like some joe-shmo took White Out to the scratch. I'm not kidding, the paint was a COMPLETELY different white than the white of my car. The service manager assured me that it was a "good job" and you "could barely notice it". I could have done a better job retouching it myself. When I lodged further complaints about this retouch on site, he said that they would not be claiming responsibility for the initial scratch done to my car and that this was the best they could do. He further had the audacity to claim that it was "impossible" that this scratch could have happened at their dealership. Meanwhile, while I was waiting for my car to be "retouched", a huge crash of something dropping came from the garage of the service area...could've been something dropping on someone's beloved car and creating a scratch. WARNING to all Volkswagen owners in the Pompton Plains/Wayne/Pequonnock area: DO NOT take your car to Crestmont VW if you want your car to be properly serviced or your car to remain looking like it did when it came off the lot!!! read more

I was driving my brand new EOS and when it started to rain I immediately saw that one of my windshield wiper blades had been vandalized while I was at the supermarket. Luckily I was close to Crestmont Volkswagen. Although I had no appointment, and did not buy my car there, the service manager was extremely accommodating, took me right in, and replaced the wiper blade at no charge. So, if I didn't want to lose the money, I had to purchase the car once the lease was over (which I did).
