Lots of families on a Saturday afternoon. Mini arcade by the door. Saw a kid meltdown when his family had to leave but he wanted to stay by the machines. Lots of fun things on the menu. Decided to stop by here for a quick brunch before heading home from Pinecrest and one of the guides suggested Crestline Cafe. Arrived with a party of 4 and there was a short wait to get seated. There's about a total of 12 or so tables but it was moving at a decent pace. Unfortunately things went south from there. Got seated and the waiters were pretty fast and attentive. I had an early breakfast so decided to go with the lunch Patty Melt as it was a restaurant house specialty. Friends ordered the BBQ sandwich and Ragin Cajun. It took almost 30+ minutes for the food to come out and most of the meats came out very dried for some reason. The fries were fabulous though. Decor is very mountain diner-esque but clean and comfy. Maybe what we ordered was not exactly their specialty as I saw lots of people eating breakfast. But the lunch menu was just not it on Sunday sadly. My family spent a great weekend in Crestline. On the way back home we stopped by this place for breakfast. This has got to be some of the worst service we have experienced, the person to seat us was very polite and got our drinks right away but our server was awful. She did not come to our table till almost half an hour after we were seated, had such a horrible attitude the whole time. After another 25 minutes two people at our table got food, another 15 for someone else to get food and another 10 to let my brother know what he ordered was no longer available. We never saw our server after that. The food was not good, we all ended up with stomach issues afterwards. They also gave us someone else's credit cards with the wrong check. Do not go here honestly go get some food at Goodwins market instead, better quality and prices. I hope they can talk to the sever wearing big hoop flower earrings because the food is already not great but her attitude will surely not have any customers lining up to come back. read more

We needed a new place to go after our go to place in BlueJay ( The Villager Coffee Shop aka Bills) closed down.... twice. We knew Crestline Cafe's location as it was next to our favorite hardware store - Ace. We were promptly greeted and seated by a young lady with a truly sincere smile. The place was full and hoping with life. Crestline Cafe was an amazing place. The owner "Amber" greeted us and after I confessed that it was our first visit after being up the hill for five years she smiled opened her arms and said " Welcome home." I have to say that through our ordering bfast we could have gone home before the food arrived and been 5 star happy. Just watching the attentiveness and joy of the staff was enough to be impressed. They have a team approach which is inspirational. We must have been waited on by at least four swift effecient and kind young ladies. Then the food arrived, promptly I may add. I had steak and eggs and my wife had the garden omelette. Amazing! So deeply good! Just this week I had the same cut of steak at Outback Steakhouse and Crestline Cafe's steak was so much better! My wife loved the fluffy omelette especially the country taters that were on the side. The absolute best part of the entire morning was " Feeling at home ." Loved this place! The only thing is that they put chamoy on their Michalada's. (I don't like chamoy, I wish the server would have mentioned it). No big deal. Next time, I'll order without it. Because there is a sign stating that they had the 'BEST' B&G. I am no expert on B&G, but I have had my share of them from Tennessee to Texas, Nevada, Az and up and down Ca. The gravy was EXCELLENT! Thick and rich but not overly floured to make it thick. The bits of sausage and seasoned with just the right amount of pepper. The biscuit was soft and spongy. I understand that there many different camps on how a 'biscuit' should be made. This biscuit was perfect for ME. Well done to the chef! My omelette was fluffy like a Japanese omelette and covered with delicious pork chili verde sauce and melted cheese. The country potatoes were delicious mixed with bell peppers and onions. The French Toast with the add-on eggs & sausage. They have maple & Boysenberry syrup AND the syrup comes out in warmed up bottles. They have lunch and dinner options too. We'll definitely be back. The entire staff was friendly and nice. Helping each other out is always nice to see. This place has a family owned warmth feeling about it. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. It was a slow day, and it showed. Our drinks' girl never asked us if we wanted refills/seconds and didn't bother to pick up our empty bottle while she was on her phone in the kitchen. My boyfriend got the pigs in a blanket with chocolate chips, bacon, and 2 eggs, while I got an omelette with pastrami, mushrooms, and cheddar cheese, with hash-browns and sourdough. Everything we had was very tasty. The pancakes were large and fluffy, the fillings in my omelette were plenty (I hate when they skimp you on the fillings) and the hash-browns were thin and crispy (my fav style). Absolutely not dog-friendly. I am extremely disappointed with how I was treated at Crestline Cafe. In the morning, I was told to sit outside because I had my dog with me. I accepted that, but my food was served in takeout containers, making me feel unwelcome from the start. When I returned for dinner, I was again told to sit outside. I explained that my dog is a service dog trained to assist me during panic attacks. I was finally allowed inside, but when I briefly picked her up after she moved from under the table, the manager told me to leave. I have never been treated this way anywhere else in California. Instead of showing understanding, the manager chose to remove a paying customer. The food may be good, but the customer service was disappointing and humiliating. I will not be returning. What is most disappointing is not that you disagreed with my review, but that your business chose to publicly accuse a customer of "completely fabricating the truth." Instead of addressing my concerns professionally, your response attacks my character and makes assumptions about my disability and my dog. Readers can decide for themselves which response appears more professional. I genuinely enjoyed Crestline and was excited to visit your café. We were in Crestline for 3 days. We only ate at the cafe once. We bought dinners and took them back to our room so we could eat on the balcony, which had a great view. The eatery had a prime rib special. Hubby got fries and corn, and I got a baked potato and steamed broccoli. Service was fast and friendly. The steak was medium and done just right. It practically melted in our mouths. (And I am not much of a red meat eater.) The potato was big and filling and the broccoli was done just right. The special was 2 prime rib dinners for $40. I don't know much about Crestline (but I'm learning) but it's hard to go wrong with a cafe, right? Especially in walking distance from the venue. Located on Lake Drive, the Crestline Cafe with its rock exterior isn't hard to miss. We walked in and were sat immediately. The Crestline Cafe has a great menu with one caveat. They stop serving breakfast at 3pm. So we all had to pivot after our server told us that lol. The breakfast looks incredible so I'd want to come back just for that. I ended up getting the chili size and it was a dang tasty burger. They don't skimp on the ingredients and the French fries were awesome. We also got mozzarella sticks as an appetizer and wow those were really good. Service was fast and friendly. So yeah, another good place to eat in the mountains! The most comfortable diner booth there is. It's odd to focus on this but the booth was just perfect. Good hight so my legs are not scrunched or dangling off the floor.
