Decided to stop by here for a quick brunch before heading home from Pinecrest and one of the guides suggested Crestline Cafe. Arrived with a party of 4 and there was a short wait to get seated. There's about a total of 12 or so tables but it was moving at a decent pace. Unfortunately things went south from there. Got seated and the waiters were pretty fast and attentive. I had an early breakfast so decided to go with the lunch Patty Melt as it was a restaurant house specialty. Friends ordered the BBQ sandwich and Ragin Cajun. It took almost 30+ minutes for the food to come out and most of the meats came out very dried for some reason. The fries were fabulous though. Decor is very mountain diner-esque but clean and comfy. Maybe what we ordered was not exactly their specialty as I saw lots of people eating breakfast. But the lunch menu was just not it on Sunday sadly. Loved this place! The only thing is that they put chamoy on their Michalada's. (I don't like chamoy, I wish the server would have mentioned it). No big deal. Next time, I'll order without it. My omelette was fluffy like a Japanese omelette and covered with delicious pork chili verde sauce and melted cheese. The country potatoes were delicious mixed with bell peppers and onions. The French Toast with the add-on eggs & sausage. They have maple & Boysenberry syrup AND the syrup comes out in warmed up bottles. They have lunch and dinner options too. We'll definitely be back. Honestly - for a cute little diner, the prices, service, portions, and quality, Crestline hit the spot! We were seated immediately at 10:30 on a Saturday which was such as pleasant surprise. The servers were so nice! Honestly, anyone we interacted with was very nice. Keeping in mind the general needs and standards of a cafe/diner, Crestline had a great set of options. My boyfriend got the pigs in a blanket with chocolate chips, bacon, and 2 eggs, while I got an omelette with pastrami, mushrooms, and cheddar cheese, with hash-browns and sourdough. Everything we had was very tasty. The pancakes were large and fluffy, the fillings in my omelette were plenty (I hate when they skimp you on the fillings) and the hash-browns were thin and crispy (my fav style). For a mountain Cafe it was great, service was awesome, they don't add a "mountain tax" to the food, it's reasonably priced. There is a kids menu, but you have to ask the server, it's not printed or online. Parking can be a little tough, noon on a Saturday it took us about 5-10 min to find a spot. We were in Crestline for 3 days. We only ate at the cafe once. We bought dinners and took them back to our room so we could eat on the balcony, which had a great view. The eatery had a prime rib special. Hubby got fries and corn, and I got a baked potato and steamed broccoli. Service was fast and friendly. The steak was medium and done just right. It practically melted in our mouths. (And I am not much of a red meat eater.) The potato was big and filling and the broccoli was done just right. The special was 2 prime rib dinners for $40. Our family tried this place for the first time and we loved it. We've been on the mountain for decades and finally went in for dinner. The food was amazing, service was perfect, and the cleanliness throughout was pretty great too. Before hitting the lake we stopped by for some breakfast and decided on Crestline Cafe. It's a pretty big establishment with a full house on a Saturday morning. This cafe is your perfect mountain diner with friendly workers and tasty home-cooked food. The cafe has a cozy feel to it, but unfortunately we couldn't stay so we made an order to go. I ordered the breakfast hash, my daughter ordered the grilled cheese with fries, and my friend ordered a breakfast sandwich. Me and my friend finished our food immediately, and my daughter finished hers the next day (because it still tasted good after being brought home). Came to Crestline for a punk rock show at the nearby Stockade but I wanted something a bit different this time. I don't know much about Crestline (but I'm learning) but it's hard to go wrong with a cafe, right? Especially in walking distance from the venue. Located on Lake Drive, the Crestline Cafe with its rock exterior isn't hard to miss. We walked in and were sat immediately. The Crestline Cafe has a great menu with one caveat. They stop serving breakfast at 3pm. So we all had to pivot after our server told us that lol. The breakfast looks incredible so I'd want to come back just for that. I ended up getting the chili size and it was a dang tasty burger. They don't skimp on the ingredients and the French fries were awesome. We also got mozzarella sticks as an appetizer and wow those were really good. Service was fast and friendly. So yeah, another good place to eat in the mountains! We stopped in for breakfast here while on our way to look at properties my only con is the inside could use a little touch up like new carpet. Went to Crestline / Lake Gregory for our annual family Fourth of July vacation. This year we came a few days earlier and on the first day decided to try Crestline Cafe for breakfast. The place wasn't very busy, unlike closer to the Fourth when more tourists are in town. Our server was friendly and came around to check on us. The only negative was the young lady who would walk around asking tables if they needed refills. Not sure if it is because we are a mixed race family or because we are not locals but she would literally stop at every table except ours. I even put my empty coffee cup on the edge of the table where you couldn't help but notice and yet still this young woman ignored us. Ended up asking our server and he had her come (reluctantly) and fill our coffees. The food portions and taste were great. We had the full plate biscuits and gravy, french toast, pancakes, eggs, bacon, and machaca. Portions were so big everyone except me had to get boxes. The place itself is clean, typical American diner. Not greasy spoon, but certainly showing its age especially the bathrooms. We went again for breakfast a few days later and I will write a follow-up review for that (5 star) visit. read more

If I could give this place minus a million stars , I would. It's not due to the food , or even other staff members. This rating is due to the terrible service that my friends and I were exposed to during what would have been a 4th of July celebration breakfast date. The staff member who completely didn't give a hoot about us and was blatantly lying about seating us inside while we waited for our table instead of subjecting us to 100 temp heat outdoors was Amber. When we first arrived and gave our names to be called when a table was open , there was a couple seated in their lobby waiting to be called. Amber told me and a friend that since they had a small lobby , we could not wait inside for our table to be called . So we went outside to wait. As that couple got called, the lobby cleared out. We went inside and Amber still told us we could not wait in the lobby and had to wait outside. Mind you , no one was in the lobby and she was asking us to wait outside in 100 degree heat. Saying she was now saving the lobby waiting area for a party that was ahead of us. She also passed up our name and called others in before us that had just arrived. Same size of party. It was apparent that Amber had something against me and my friends. Friends that were traveling from out of town and I was excited to take them to what was my favorite breakfast spot in the mountains. One of my friends being a Navy veteran and was there with us celebrating Fourth of July. We were all surprised and extremely disappointed of the way we were treated. 1-Star Review for Crestline Cafe (August 13, 2025 Visit) Title: Rude staff, violent threats, filthy environment, and unhinged behavior -- NEVER again We've been loyal patrons of Crestline Cafe for over 15 years, even at their old location when they were in Top Town. We always tipped generously, supported the business, and enjoyed the food -- until August 13, 2025, when the entire experience became a disaster. 30-Minute Wait for Pancakes -- Then Slammed on the Table We waited 30 minutes for pancakes. Asked three times. Got nothing but vague, evasive answers. Finally, we said we'd leave if food didn't come in 3 minutes. Suddenly, it appeared in 2. Not because of effort -- because of pressure. The waitress (who claimed to be the manager) slammed the plates on the table like we were an annoyance. No apology, no explanation, just contempt. Unsanitary Waitress in Manager Role The same waitress had raw, open-looking facial wounds -- what appeared to be bloody, exposed sores or warts on her chin. It was hard to look at and extremely concerning from a public health perspective. No bandage, no covering -- completely exposed. In any other business, this would be a health code violation. Overcharged: $18 for 3 Glasses of Milk Ordered 3 glasses of milk. Got 3 glasses. Billed for 6. They doubled the count, charging $6 per glass instead of $3. No explanation, no fix offered. Blatant overcharging. Belligerent Breakdown from Waitress/"Manager" When I calmly asked what was going on with the delays and service, she became agitated, raised her voice, and snapped, "Don't you see?" while pointing at the kitchen (which only had one person). I asked again if they were short-staffed -- instead of answering, she started yelling, accused me of "always being rude," and had what looked like a complete breakdown. Totally inappropriate, unprofessional, and mentally unstable behavior from someone claiming to be in charge. Threatened with Violence by Cashier When I tried to escalate to someone else, the cashier -- a tall, skinny, young white guy with long blond hair and blue eyes -- told me: "You're bothering our customers. You're about to be thrown out through the window." That's a direct physical threat to a peaceful customer -- made while I was standing there with my wife and daughter. I told him I'd call the police. He immediately backed off and turned away without even addressing the issue. Shameful. Filthy Dishes, Cracked Plates, Dirty Glasses The plates were chipped, the glasses visibly dirty. The entire restaurant has gone from cozy and welcoming to a filthy, depressing dive. Nothing is clean. Nothing feels cared for. Final Warning to Others: This isn't the place it used to be. It's become hostile, filthy, mismanaged, and outright dangerous. Between the unsanitary visible wounds, the aggressive threats, the overcharging, and the meltdown by the staff claiming to be in charge, this place is now a nightmare. Never again. Crestline Cafe is dead to me. The people working that day were either completely untrained, chemically altered, or dangerously unfit to work in hospitality. I've never been treated with such open disrespect, aggression, and incompetence -- especially after being a loyal customer for over a decade. We will NEVER return. Crestline Cafe is now a no-go zone for us and anyone we care about. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. Slow, overpriced, hostile, and dirty. They've lost their soul -- and a customer for life.
