You don't always see that. The tables and chairs are metal. The girl behind the counter is very sweet, but she doesn't know too much about the product that she sells. She knows that the ice cream is from Alabama and that it is not locally sourced. Prices here are more than reasonable, $5 for a 3-scoop sampler. She was very helpful, providing us samples and giving us flavor recommendations. It's a real cute lil spot. Another thing, it was super clean. Yay!!

After coming to Baton Rouge for the past 2…read moreyears to visit my fiancé, I decided we had to venture out of BR to find a non-chain ice cream shop. Maddie's fit the bill with its homemade ice cream and family-run ambiance. It's in an unassuming shopping center off the main toad in Brusly, LA (about a 15 min drive from BR, just over the MISSISSIPPI river), but it's an oasis in an otherwise ice cream desert. The space is super cute and inviting with paintings of various ice cream cones on the walls by young artists (they do kids birthday parties) and a chalkboard menu. They also have plenty of seating and a "Eat More Ice Cream" sign that's perfect for the 'gram. The ice cream itself is fantastic and really creamy and rich. I got coffee and cookies and cream and my partner got blueberry cheesecake and s'mores. Very reasonably priced given the generous scoops! They also have brownies, cookies, and their signature creations/sundaes. Worth the drive to this small town to get world class ice cream! We'll be back!

And fish-shaped taiyaki or bunggeobang pastries that feature custard or red bean filling--warm and sweet with a crispy exterior. The ube cookies were the only items that didn't blow my mind as the ube flavor was lost amongst the food coloring and white chocolate chips. The ube ice cream however was solid, with a mild and lightly sweet earthy flavor similar to taro or matcha. 8/10 recommend especially if you've never had bingsu or ube. My favorite was definitely the fish-shaped pastries, a very impressive replication of the Asian street snacks sold in the wintertime.

I also got a custard stuffed taiyoki that isn't pictured and it was DELICIOUS just watch out for hot custard burns!

I ordered one with a slice of pecan pie in it. Great concept, but wasn't as good in practice because the pie was very cold on top of the ice which made the crust of the pie really hard. The nachos were pretty good, but the guacamole did have a guacamole paste flavor. I'd wanna try the chili cheese nachos next time.
