I would not recommend having your reception here. I recently had my wedding reception at Crenshaw Hall and while it was a beautiful wedding reception and everything was perfect, it was because I had a wonderful caterer, florist and other helpers separate from the owners. Like the first review said, the place was a mess. Right up until a week before there was construction all around, trash in the yard and the things the owner had promised would be in place weren't. As a bride, I'm sure you can appreciate my concern when I saw all this a week before the wedding. Additionally, the owners were not accomdating to the caterer and since then, the caterer has decided they will not longer be doing events out there. I know this is a family home full of history and they certianly have put a lot of effort towards the home; however, they need to focus on making the brides feel like they are being taken care of and that their event will be perfect. It was definitely the greatest day of my life because I married my best friend and everything looked great but it was 100% because of my wonderful team of helpers that took over and made it exactly how I pictured it would be. A bride, or anyone having an event out there, should never be scared that things are not going to look right when paying such a large sum of money. read more

DO NOT BOOK THIS VENUE. My husband and I had our reception at Crenshaw Hall. The owner John was very rude to us and our families. He was very unprofessional throughout all of our interactions, not returning phone calls and trying to slide out of things that were previously agreed upon. On the day of our wedding, he tried to go back on something that was promised in our contract, causing a lot of drama for my family and other vendors. Also, their slideshow equipment would not work, which he did not seem to care about, and we were unable to show a slideshow that we spent hours working on. This place is beautiful. However the owners/managers are the most rude disrespectful people I have had to work with. Was going to have my wedding here but after being so poorly mistreated I have reconsidered. The people are a nightmare- not worth the venue. Seriously do not get married here. read more

We just had our daughter's marriage and wedding reception at Crenshaw. This is a very nice place, homey and Southern, and charming. The wedding went very well, without a major hitch. Overall the Crenshaw staff and vendors did a good job although there were some minor issues, to be expected. One BIG issue : The owner of this facility is without a doubt one of the most rude and poorly spoken people I have ever encountered. The guy is without any tact or common courtesy, amazing when dealing with his customers. The Crenshaw folks have certainly had issues in the past with damage and making a point on drinking and use of their facility is certainly acceptable. But it was done in a way which offended me and our friends who were helping and set a very poor tone for the relationship. In fact, my daughter came home almost in tears from a pre-wedding (but the contract was signed and paid for!) meeting involving this guy. Unacceptable. This is about the only downside of Crenshaw, otherwise it all went well. Advice : If you decide on Crenshaw, you will need to specifiy this guy is not involved in any manner whatsoever. He is not capable of dealing with his customers in a polite and repectful manner. If he must be involved, look elsewhere. I'd give Crenshaw more stars but the owner's attitude and behavior had a major impact on my rating. read more

I have to disagree with the previous post as we DID use Historic Crenshaw Hall as our venue for our wedding in May 2009. This is the most incredible venue for your rehearsal dinner and/or wedding ceremony and/or wedding reception - we did all three at Crenshaw Hall! Joyce and John Bennett, the owners, were very flexible with allowing us to meet with them repeatedly, meet vendors on-site, and allowing us to have my bridal portraits taken there as well. You MUST see this venue...the outside bridal garden is beautiful for a small or large wedding and the entrance from the bridal porch makes for wonderful pictures, as does the "Gone with the Wind" style of the front veranda. The interior of the historic home has been renovated and is simply stunning. Once we added the flowers and the linens, the interior of the home was breathtaking and we have so many incredible pictures showcasing the Hall's unique and classic design. The brick courtyard between the house and the tented area was perfect for our Rehearsal Dinner and made a wonderful outside transition between the two venues. The large tented area, could easily accommodate almost any size function and once "dressed up" with lighting, tables, linens, and flowers was amazing, especially at night. The accommodations for the bride and her attendants upstairs is truly refined and makes the bride feel extra-special with her own beautifully appointed dressing room (also perfect for before ceremony pictures). It could use a separate dressing area for the groom and his attendants. Our wedding will not only be remembered fondly by us, but every person that attended commented repeatedly about Crenshaw Hall and the grounds. It is truly one-of-a-kind and will make your wedding or other occasion very memorable. read more

I had my wedding at Crenshaw Hall and I would not recommend it to any bride who actually wants to be treated as an adult at her own wedding. The venue was very pretty, but so are a lot of venues in the area. Loved my photographer and loved my DJ, but what kept me up the night of the wedding was the owner. I could barely sleep the night before my wedding after the lecture he gave my bridal party on alcohol consumption at the rehearsal (oh, yes, and everyone was very sober). Not to mention the fact that this was about the third lecture I had personally received from him out of absolutely nowhere. My family was previously lectured that day about daring to drop off a few decorations slightly early. The day of he actually yelled at my kind and generous friends who assisted in setting up our decorations (when finally permitted) because, oh, as previously mentioned in another lecture, it was against the rules to move the random objects (in this case, a small thing of plastic flowers.....yes, plastic flowers at a wedding venue) they have scattered about just because you're getting married. As someone in the service industry, I spend every day meeting the demands of my clients.....you'd think that was a pretty obvious lesson for a wedding venue. read more

This is a 100% honest and thought-given review. We even gave ourselves a few months to chew on this and make sure our feelings were not knee-jerk reactions. This being said- I would NOT recommend this venue or it's owners to anyone to use for their wedding. Not now, not ever. It also goes to say for reference that we LOVED every single other vendor we chose for our wedding day and gave raving reviews- so this is not one of those "I hate everyone" kind of things. Apparently after they get your money all of their manners and kindness are seriously out the window and the rude and crazy sets in. I was told when we signed the agreement all the grandiose ideas and how helpful and accommodating they would be. They were anything BUT helpful or accommodating and we can honestly say they were the most stressful part of our wedding experience. At one point I even had enough and Christie at this point was so rude and offensive in every point of communication that I was so upset and finally called John Bennett to discuss with him that this was unacceptable treatment, unprofessional, and that if this continued that I would have to look elsewhere for my venue. His response? "Well it wouldn't be working with Christie if it wasn't difficult"- what?! The story goes on and on and this text box won't even allow the space for details. They had continual comments on all the other weddings and how busy and tired they were- which really makes you feel like you a notch on their belt or an album on their Facebook page. I wish I would've had something like this and would have never ever have chosen them- go with the Sutherland or Matthews House or anyone but them please! Oh and the icing on the cake- our deposit you ask? I hope I never ever see them again. Lastly, I refuse to say they ruined our wedding. They don't deserve it!! At the end of the day we were married and spent the day with those we love and for that we are blessed.But as far as Crenshaw Hall is concerned- RUN!!!! read more

I spoke with the wedding planner (Christy) at Crenshaw Hall on behalf of my friend who had just gotten engaged. I made copious notes of everything that was represented to me, repeated everything back to her several times for clarification, i.e., $10,000 FLAT FEE covers EVERYTHING...no hidden costs. I excitedly gave the information to the bride-to-be and she and her fiance made an appt. to meet with the planner. Once they arrived, my friends were informed that BESIDES the $10,000 FLAT FEE (which the planner denied she ever said!), there is a $2,800 charge just to use the facility, a $1,500 charge to use the permanent tent that is on-site (which I had been told was beautiful for weddings during the same conversation about what was included in the FLAT FEE) and that HER fee is an additional $800.00. My friends were disgusted and asked me if they had misunderstood the information I gave them. I checked my written notes and KNOW that I did not give them incorrect information. I was lied to repeatedly. Christy completely misrepresented their "package" and I regret that I wasted my friends' time even meeting with her. Shame on Christy and shame on Crenshaw Hall for allowing such a lack of integrity. BE WARNED! read more
