The food was served family style (because of the conference I think). The meat was too salty. The rest of the food was unspectacular and lacking a pizzazz. We had a lemon tart for dessert, the shell was so hard all you could do was scoop out the tart lemon custard. Needless to say, my co-worker and I booked it out of there as fast as we could.

Today it was mid to upper 60's in the afternoon but dropped to the low 40's tonight with 10mph winds. It was quite chilly and fortunately I had brought my coat, gloves, and hand warmers. Because of the weather two hours was plenty of time but next time I would prepare to stay 3-4 hours and truly get my money's worth!

The ballroom that we utilized is spacious with multiple tables and chairs and enough room for a dance floor and/or stage. The venue was nicely decorated and had festive decorations such as large Christmas trees and lights inside. There were also beautiful chandeliers inside of the ballroom. Water, salad dressing, butter, and rolls were on our table and we were served salads. The servers were really friendly and helpful. The food was served to us buffet style by the staff and it was good. One of my my favorites was the bbq salmon topped with corn. I had never had salmon prepared this way but all of the flavors came together nicely. I would def consider hosting an event here or recommending someone contact this business to host their event at this venue.

I was denied entry into Deke's (the ground floor bar and restaurant) "Because I was wearing a T-shirt, which didn't meet the new dress code". I looked in disbelieve at that moment, to see two gentlemen actually wearing T-shirts, at which time I asked to speak to the manager. The lady fired back, "I AM the manager", at which time I asked to speak to a higher level manager, as two others were wearing T-shirts. She resisted to get the higher level manager, and continued to argue that that was their new dress code, at which time I asked again to speak "to the higher level manager". She resisted again, so I asked again. She then replied, "Don't yell at me", which was a fabrication, and went to get the Food and Beverage Director. She was obviously angry because I asked to speak to the higher level manager. The Food and Beverage Director came (David), he looked disheveled, in a 1950s suit, Beard also disheveled, and he had a strange odor. By his behavior, it was clear he was informed that I had "yelled" at the other lady, in her words, as his attitude was as bad as his appearance. He asked if I, "was a member", of which I said I was. I gave him both my name and my wife's name. He then looked up the wrong name, and exclaimed to everyone in the club that I was, "NOT a member". This was found to be false an hour later, when my wife called back in to check on why they claimed the membership was not correct. He didn't look up my name or my wife's name correctly, saying we must not have paid the membership bill, in front of the other members. It was a complete fail. It got even worse. At that point, I pointed out the 2nd patron who was wearing a T-shirt, the Food and Beverage Manager grabbed my right shoulder to escort me out (after telling everyone in earshot I was not a member, which he was incorrect). I couldn't believe it. I shoved him back, told him not to make physical contact with me. I was asked to depart the club, which I did, with my two hungry toddlers. The Food and Beverage Director, who must weigh 250 lbs, continued to provoke and follow me in close proximity, even after I was outside. I did an about face, and told him not to invade my space, and that he was a fat man who should not be following me so closely. He then backed away. I must admit, I should have have called him a fatso, as it had nothing to do with his incompetence or his bad hygiene. I took hit personally, while pushing a baby carriage out of the restaurant, with two hungry toddlers. Brier Creek has been known in the RDU area to be a C-grade club by many professionals, but since their last General Manager passed away unexpectedly, they've really gone down hill to a D-grade club. Try the other clubs in Raleigh and Durham, if you want to go to a place that has competent and courteous personnel. In summary, they don't enforce their dress code equally, and turned me away, saying I was not a member, with two hungry babies, because of a T-shirt, while two other patrons were wearing T-shirts. Some history: I had contacted the Club Manager, Stefan Russell, in a private meeting a few months prior to this incident, to politely let him know the service in Deke's was horrible after waiting 15 minutes for a server. I explained to him that I had worked 15 years as a server in restaurants. He was polite and courteous, and we discussed his being from Europe. It crossed my mind, this might have been why the floor manager, a short woman, may have initially denied me entry, even though two other men were sitting near the front desk, also wearing T-shirts. She had no explanation of why they were wearing T-shirts, however I was being denied entry. The Club Manager, Doug Anderson, obviously doesn't know how to select or train managers at Brier Creek Country Club. For this reason, I predict there will be a continued subpar experience for the members of Brier Creek Country Club.

There is street parking but I am unsure of any other place that they have. When you first walk in you can't help but notice the open space and everyone working, I immediately went into work mode. There are so many different nooks to choose from for working I opted for a space by the window. They also have different rooms that you can use. All of the people there are pleasant. Overall nice space. Grateful I was able to see inside.

As a sometimes event planner, I also appreciated. Nicely done. When you're networking, you want to be able to see well and move around easily. From what I learned tonight, this is also a great location for start-ups, entrepreneurs, small businesses and people who just need an office space. It's collaborative and friendly with the allowance for your own work space. In addition to the networking event tonight, I did talk to some people who actually work in offices there. They said it could be a little hard to concentrate at times with people coming and going or playing music with such open spaces. Downstairs I saw a ping-pong table and large counter-space. Apparently sometimes they have food there. My new friend pointed out that it can also be a little distracting knowing there's beer on tap downstairs... maybe so, but I relax a little after a drink and work better (no, I'm serious -- did most of my top notch graduate work with wine in hand). But, we're all different. There are some really neat businesses at home at HQ Raleigh though. Really neat to check something like this out for myself.

When I arrived, I didn't know which room we were supposed to be in so I asked the person at the front; surprisingly she couldn't find the schedule. It was taking too long so I just guessed the room. The large meeting room can get quite loud with the air conditioning unit. It was quite bothersome after all. The vent would shut on and off. Folks speaking would have to raise their voices. That was the most annoying part about the space.

Weeks in advance, we asked the owner, "How long can we have the reception?" to which she responded we could have it as long as we wanted because it's the "saddest thing in the world" to cut someone's wedding reception short. Well surprise, at 9pm the night of the reception, while dancing outdoors, the owner informed my mother that we had to turn off the music due to an Apex noise ordinance. We later found out from Apex police there is no such ordinance (my dad called). Also, this inn is on a huge piece of land, and the music was not that loud. When we asked to move the dancing inside the inn, the owner told an elaborate story of how a honeymooning couple had been dropped off, checked in, and they immediately went upstairs to their room. Of course this sounded fishy; why would a honeymooning couple be dropped off at an inn in the middle of nowhere while a wedding reception was going on? We found out later there was no such couple, but the owner planned ahead with her story and had even put a "do not disturb" sign on the "couple's" door. We should've been told upfront, when we initially asked, that we could have the reception until 9pm instead of being manipulated by such unethical tactics. We could've planned things better. It still doesn't make sense to us. If the innkeeper wanted to go home for the night, aren't there nicer ways to plan this ahead instead of not being truthful about multiple things? It was embarrassing to skip over many planned songs and suddenly announce that we had to play our last song. Our guests (and we) were shortchanged. They traveled from across the country to be with us, and our time with them was awkwardly cut short. I want to warn future brides to get every detail regarding your wedding planning in writing so things like this don't happen to you; we were too trusting. Also, some food served at dinner was tasteless and unacceptable. Six years later I still remember that dry beef. Future brides, you would be wise to take your business elsewhere!! Sure, the suite we stayed in was comfortable, but how can we recommend a place run in such a manner?

The desserts were also tasty- mini key lime pies and caramel pretzel brownies! The staff were so attentive with iced tea, water refills, and coffee. I was really impressed with the service.
