I recently had my wedding reception at Crenshaw…read moreHall and while it was a beautiful wedding reception and everything was perfect, it was because I had a wonderful caterer, florist and other helpers separate from the owners. Like the first review said, the place was a mess. Right up until a week before there was construction all around, trash in the yard and the things the owner had promised would be in place weren't. As a bride, I'm sure you can appreciate my concern when I saw all this a week before the wedding. Additionally, the owners were not accomdating to the caterer and since then, the caterer has decided they will not longer be doing events out there. I know this is a family home full of history and they certianly have put a lot of effort towards the home; however, they need to focus on making the brides feel like they are being taken care of and that their event will be perfect. It was definitely the greatest day of my life because I married my best friend and everything looked great but it was 100% because of my wonderful team of helpers that took over and made it exactly how I pictured it would be. A bride, or anyone having an event out there, should never be scared that things are not going to look right when paying such a large sum of money.

DO NOT BOOK THIS VENUE…read more My husband and I had our reception at Crenshaw Hall. The owner John was very rude to us and our families. He was very unprofessional throughout all of our interactions, not returning phone calls and trying to slide out of things that were previously agreed upon. On the day of our wedding, he tried to go back on something that was promised in our contract, causing a lot of drama for my family and other vendors. Also, their slideshow equipment would not work, which he did not seem to care about, and we were unable to show a slideshow that we spent hours working on. In the end, he denied us our deposit because of something that is untrue. Save yourself the heartache and money!

The Deets: I got to try out the new HomeSlice Tavern up in Youngsville during their soft opening period recently. First of all, the aesthetics are what draw you in...a neatly renovated house with an inviting open door (see the pics I nabbed). Inside is a good open space with tables, the bar, and a large access to the outside area in back. There are a few electronic games available to play inside and a electronic jukebox on the wall near the bar. Mentioning the bar, a full bar awaits on the right when entering the front with one end of it adjacent to the outside area...and that outside area! Large, well groomed, with picnic tables/high tops to use but a very wide open enough space to enjoy (again, check those pics out I made). I noted a food truck at the very back of this open outside space, which I overheard one of the bartenders tell a patron that would be serving pizza starting a bit later in the month (May 2023). The bar has a good variety of alcohol/beer/wine with a small dedicated cocktail menu (possible suggestion...?maybe some "zero proof" alcohol choices and sugar free Red Bull to go with the regular Red Bull choice?). The bartenders were nice and attentive during my visit with good service, and as the afternoon went on there was a fairly good crowd building up to check out the place. My first impressions of HomeSlice Tavern are good ones, and I will hopefully enjoy more visits here in the future.

The Carolina Manor House is a Victorian historic venue that offers many gatherings from weddings to private ceremonies to baby showers. Onsite there are also some pretty cool tree houses which are for rent and typically get used by the bridal party for weddings. The bride and groom of our wedding did a bourbon tasting at the Carolina Manor House and joked that if they ever got married it would be here. Talk about a manifestation as before you knew it, the wedding was taking place. The grounds are worth touring even if you don't have an event here as there is a wrap around porch, a bar in the exterior, a couple options for ceremonies along with a newer build addition which is where our dinner and dancing took place for the wedding. The layout of the property is a nice balance of historic charm and new upscale. There is a curfew for events with I believe a 10 pm exit for quiet hours. If you live in NC and are seeking a venue, I highly recommend!!

The bed was a little hard to our liking, but that would not stop me from staying again. The music for the dance mingle on a Friday night was house DJ and he needed to turn up the music, we sat in the very front and half the time you couldn't even understand what song was playing. After about five songs, he would take a break, which was a bit silly. Most of the music were lying. Dancing could've had a more variety of genre.

After noticing several religious…read moreitems in their pictures, I emailed to ask if they were open to working with queer couples and got the following in response: "This venue is located at our Christian home. We personally have gay friends but we believe their behavior is a sin. I am a sinner and I believe we should love the sinner and hate the sin. The current law allows gay couples to marry. I think gay couples should respect the beliefs of others just as they want to be respected. " Clearly, they don't want to come right out and say we are not welcome, but they made it clear. Nowhere in my initial email was I disrespectful to them, so I'm not sure whey they felt the need to point out that we needed to respect their beliefs. A simple, "We can not accommodate your request at this time," would have been fine. We were not asking them to officiate our wedding. We were asking them if they would do their jobs as business owners, take our money, host our event, and keep their personal opinions to themselves. How their religious beliefs impact their business I don't really understand. It is really too bad, because as I mentioned, this venue looks absolutely gorgeous. However after the rude and frankly condescending email back, I will be taking my business elsewhere. I suggest those who support marriage equality do not support this highly unprofessional business.
