Obviously, this was not the fault of the pediatrician, but I mention it because it is the only mitigating circumstance surrounding what followed. Our visit was three days after I gave birth and was concerningly short. We were told our plans to exclusively breastfeed were likely doomed due to our child's alarming weight loss. As first time parents fresh out of the hospital, this was terrifying to hear and was not handled with compassion or proper explanation. Most of our questions went unanswered, and we left fearful that continuing to breastfeed could harm our baby. Had the experience ended there, I would not be writing this review. I assumed it was simply a poor fit and scheduled with a new pediatrician the following day. When contacted about additional appointments and the newborn screening, I politely explained that this practice was not the right fit for our family. Unfortunately, the situation escalated. Our daughter received an abnormal newborn screening result. The state lab contacted this office, as they were still our pediatrician at the time, and informed them that she needed urgent retesting within 24 hours. When the office called me, the person I spoke with was unable to pronounce the flagged amino acid/condition and instead asked me to spell it so I could search for it myself. Our daughter was not even a week old. Receiving news of a potentially serious metabolic disorder in this manner was beyond alarming. There was no explanation of what the condition was, what it could mean for her health, or how urgent the situation was. Just that I should google it. I was instructed to go to UNC Rex's lab. I immediately drove an hour there, only to find out they could not perform the screening because it required two hours to process and it was twenty minutes before closing on a Friday. When we contacted the office again, the response was essentially, "Oh yeah, forgot about that, sorry. I guess you'll have to wait until Monday." Considering we had just been told the testing needed to be repeated urgently within 24 hours, being told to wait another three days with no medical explanation was extremely concerning. I spent the next two hours calling hospitals trying to find somewhere that could perform the test, only to repeatedly be told this was something the pediatrician's office needed to arrange. During this time, I was unable to reach the office. The following morning, our new pediatrician immediately began contacting hospitals on our behalf and attempting to obtain the necessary records. They also attempted multiple times to contact this office (and were unable), and my own voicemails to the nurse line went unanswered. The state laboratory had not yet fully processed her results, meaning our new pediatrician could not obtain the necessary information. This office was the only one with access to the abnormal screening information at that time. We ultimately had to call the scheduling line ourselves just to get someone on the phone and have the results forwarded. Although we had decided the practice was not the right fit, this occurred while this office was still our daughter's pediatric provider and responsible for coordinating follow up after an abnormal newborn screening result that was evidently severe enough to warrant a repeat screening within 24 hours. At every step, we were left advocating for our daughter's care during an urgent situation with little guidance from the office responsible for coordinating it. This involved a less than one week old infant with a potentially serious newborn screening abnormality, and the way this situation was handled was unacceptable.

Our hope in moving practices was to be in a practice that felt neurodivergent affirming -- not just tolerant. We were met with kindness and grace at our first appointment with our fourth child, a newborn baby. We came with challenges and feared a difficult visit. Dr. Lopez listened intently, asked insightful questions and provided thorough advice and guidance. Dr Lopez's follow up on a particular visit topic was timely and persistent--so appreciated as a sometimes overwhelmed mom of four! We decided to switch the older kids, including our neurodivergent child, into the practice after our first visit. I have since read Dr. Lopez's background and am delighted to see the wonderful professional experience he has as well as his presence as an educator at UNC. His teaching and volunteer roles in the community indicate to me that he is someone who is continually exposed to new and emerging information rather than remaining complacent with initial med school teachings. He has been refreshingly willing to talk to and treat us like we are collaborative members of our child's healthcare needs. We have found a collaborative and empowering approach to be an incredibly valuable trait for a physician to have -- particularly as parents of a neurodivergent child. I highly recommend Dr. Lopez to any family who values an active and educated role in their child's healthcare. Accolades and experience aside--Dr. Lopez was diligent to connect with my neurodivergent child who, after a few bad years of illnesses and procedures, often experiences anxiety in medical offices. He is kind, silly and disarming in his bedside manner with my children. A visit once began with my child fearfully hiding behind me and ended with my child delivering a big joyous hug for Dr. Lopez. We are grateful to have found Dr. Lopez and Western Wake Peds!

Unfortunately, we feel like every time we came with an issue, it was pretty overlooked and not much medical advice was given to us. We were better off googling the symptoms or asking our nurse friends. There were several nurses who judged the way I was feeding my son during the last two appointments. The front desk lady let me know that I would be charged even though I called as soon as I got out of the Dr office and found out I was sick/contagious and couldn't bring my son into his appointment in the late afternoon. We would drive 35 min to go here and feel like unfortunately, it was not worth our drive. We found a new office that we like much better who truly listens to our concerns and does not charge anything if you are a sick, full-time working mother who is already struggling to get out of work and doing the best she can. Again, we loved the lactation consultant, and there was a young female doctor with brown hair who we also enjoyed- she was very gentle with our son. I wish they went somewhere else. As far as the other doctors & nurses- they didn't want to hear any concerns we had. And the one front desk lady is not pleasant over the phone at all. She sounds like she does not enjoy her job... but the other front desk ladies are typically nice. She didn't even try to explain anything to me when I didn't understand the charge and then she sounded surprised when I told her we were switching practices. Overall, 3/5 stars I guess but only because of the lactation consultant and the one dr we thought actually listened to us. We did not feel a connection with any of the other staff at all.

Angelica was her name and she was not only super rude but had no customer service skills what so ever. The new office I'm switching to said if all immunizations were done in the state of NC then they can look on some portal and see those without getting the records. I had been taking my children to this place for 10 years. Since they were babies. On top of that loyalty, the founder of this clinic was my childhood doctor!!! Her picture is on the wall!!! And we were going out of our way to this clinic out of loyalty. We live in Clayton. But we go out of loyalty. I grew up in Cary. They have seen us since we were babies. I am 50 years old. They threw 50 years away although we were still within the 15 minute late window!!!! How often do we all wait for doctors and nurses to see us!?!?? And they threw away 50 years of loyalty over 14 minutes!?!?! Backstory to the work stop: the work stop was so bad the person behind me got out of his vehicle in his scrubs and cussed at the workers. He said he had a woman on the operating table! He was a doctor. The workers and the doctor repeatedly screamed at each other. Eventually, after a long time, they allowed the cars to move. With that said, I was still at the clinic within the 15 minute late range!!! This clinic violated its own late policy!!! We are never late!!! And we never complain!!!!! This is our reward for 50 years??? Our reward for never being late??? Our reward for never complaining about the long waits?!?! Is this how you treat nice, loyal customers!?! I'm not a patient. We got a call within a few days to set up an appt and in persons they seem to be booked out so we chose a virtual. Bonus as we live over an hour away from the Cary office and my son doesn't like to miss any school. He met virtually with Molly monthly for 8 or so months and the last month was an in person visit (which we went to today) the office was very clean, staff was very nice and Dr Burkhart was phenomenal. We are thankfully done with his acne treatment with great success and fingers crossed it does not come back. Dr Burkhart has brought back my son's confidence because having acne as a teen can be difficult. My son has always struggled with extremely sweaty hands and today he shook Dr B's hand and was asked if he wanted to do something about that. He's always been self conscious about this so he was so happy this could possibly be taken care of if the medication works. We are so thankful! Thank you!

The ER staff told them she should not have been sent home with such a high fever, and they evaluated and diagnosed her. This experience was very upsetting. Her concerns were not taken seriously, and additional evaluation should have been considered before she was discharged.

Then answered the same questions at that evaluation (which there were several issues scheduling). Then had to complete a survey with the same questions prior to the first actual appt. Each time we scheduled an appointment for the first evaluation and then services, we'd then be asked to move it (this rescheduling happened twice for the initial evaluation), or we scheduled the first actual appt for services and they cancelled the appointment day-of (less than two hours prior) because the provider was out/couldn't make it. It's been well over three months of dealing with cancelled, moved appts, repeated paperwork and our child has still never been seen for any care. Would not recommend!

When doing intake for my kid, she seemed impatient, trying to rush him through. Her intake questions directed at me were not conversational, literally just words: "picky eater?", "dentist?". She had no bedside manner. No trying to connect with her patient to make them feel more comfortable. I'd chalk it up to her having a bad day maybe, but we've seen this behavior from this medical assistant twice now.
