The doctors and nurses address concerns and are very knowledgeable. They have always taken their time with my sons and are very genuine.

I will preface this by saying I have had way better experiences in the past. Dr. Pankratz, Pankiewicz, and Bowman were all great and many nurses were kind and friendly. The nurse comes out and announces the wrong female name for my male child. Since I was the only one in the waiting room I asked if she meant my son. "Yea whatever." Then she jokingly asked the woman at the front desk why she was laughing. He has a very short and simple name, fine you got it wrong but not to correct it and apologize but this was really disrespectful. We are about to let you poke, give shots to, touch our babies. Please be kind. I should have left then. She asks me to take my son's shoes off and have him stand on a scale - he's one, that's unlikely to work but I said we could try. Then, after weighing, she tells me she will need to test for lead and cleans his finger with an alcohol swab which she leaves on the table where my child was sitting and will sit again. They poke his finger and hardly get a good sample - it screens positive for lead. They try, three nurses, try to pull blood for a follow up but are unable to. They tried both arms while my son screamed his head off. I would politely suggest professional development for nurses at the apex office in drawing blood because there have been a few times where it has effected patient care/experience. (I went to the lab and the phlebotomist pulled the blood within a minute by simply swaddling. The lead diagnostic test came back negative for lead -- what?? I saw online how tests from the finger for lead can have up to a 75% false positive rate. Meanwhile, I bought at home tests for lead, had to pay for another blood draw and test after two failures at the office. It was a horrible experience perhaps not entirely their fault as I think it must be a standard in the US for lead testing that is practically useless, a system that doesn't train nurses well in blood drawing, a system that doesn't provide enough days off and leads to burnout which was probably a cause for why my baby's name was treated like a useless word. He was trapped in an office for nearly two hours of poking and crying - this is the definition of a bad patient experience start to finish. read more

Such a nice manner of Dr. Steele. He's a very experienced doctor and truly understands parent angst. His jokes hit the mark. He is thorough and kind and who would want more from someone who is so important to a child! Barbara, the nurse, is also sweet and kind. They have late appointments, with doctors coming in after hours. While they have appointments available when my daughter has needed them but seems to take a long time to book. Overall I'm so happy with my grandchild's doctor's office. read more

I had my first appointment at the Apex office of Cary Pediatrics today and it was FABULOUS! I love that the waiting room is divided by "Sick Patients" on one side and "Well Patients" on the other. It was nice to see that when I come back with my son, if he's sick, he'll be in a spot away from other children and hopefully not get them sick, and vice-versa! We had his well-baby appointment with the nurse practitioner Julie Wilson and she was absolutely wonderful!! I am so happy that we found this office!! What I also love is that there are three different offices. There's the main office in Cary, one in Apex, and the other is in Fuquay-Varina. You can take your child to any of the three offices, and on Saturdays the Cary office is open and will see patients from all three offices. We ended up at Apex Peds with Dr. Aaron Pankiewicz (because our regular doctor at Cary Peds (fantastic doctors!!!!) was not available for a same-day appointment). Dr. Pankiewicz dismissed us with a condescending attitude about two hot-to-the-touch very sore pus abscesses on my son and sent us home with a prescription for a topical antibiotic ointment. The following day my son (16 yrs) couldn't get out of bed because of stiffness in the legs and arms where the abscesses were. We thankfully got into our dermatologist the same day, she took a culture of both places and prescribed prednisone and a heavy-duty antibiotic. We received the lab results from the culture today and my son has MRSA which is very contagious and could lead to a blood infection/sepsis if not treated. I'm thankful my son is old enough to tell me the seriousness of the pain he was having. For those of you with young children please find a doctor who actually cares for his/her patients. read more

I had the worst experience at this practice. I used to come here as a kid at the Cary location and it seemed fine. I work full-time and didn't have any other option to get in another day because of work so I decided to book an appointment here last minute and I was really appreciative that they could fit me in. I came in and the front desk receptionist was nice and she updated my insurance and talk to me and told me "thank you for being early." I got in the room and the doctor (Dr. Shana Bailey) came in with a bad attitude. She started off by saying I am too old to be here since I am 20 in their limit is 21 so I will have to find a new practice to go to because "making an appointment as an adult no other office will have an appointment the same day. So it will be my last visit because I'm almost 21". She didn't really take the time to help me with my issue and she didn't prescribe me anything she just said a referral person will be in contact with me. My appointment was at 2:10 and I got there early so my appointment was done in like 10-15 minutes. I feel like she didn't help me at all and her attitude was really disrespectful. I will not recommend this practice to anyone. read more

I cannot say enough great things about Apex Pediatrics. I've been taking my kids here for 5 years. Dr Johnson is wonderful and kind and the staff is super efficient and nice. Antoinette at the front desk is a GEM. I never have problems scheduling appointments, they have walk in sick care and if I need my kids shot records I just swing by and they're ready. My daughter got a letter from the DMV that she had 30 days to get her physician to sign off that she was ok to drive or they would yank her license. Problem? She moves in to college in a week!!! If you have kids that are going to get sick, choose another practice If you have insurance, i hope that your copay is low. This is important because you'll end up making several visits per cold. After 10 days of a persistent ear infection on our 5 year old, My wife took went for a second visit. They provided a stronger antibiotic, but suggested that we come back for a third visit in 2 weeks if it hadn't cleared up. Three days later, with minimal results I called back to see about getting a steroid to help pass the inflammation. first off, you'll be lucky if you get a call back. I have spent hours on hold with sick kids trying to speak to a nurse. We have averaged more then 2 visits per sinus / ear infection per child in 2009 and 2010. In November 2011 alone we have had the pleasure of 5 visits per 3 kids. This is due primarily to over-prescribing weak antibiotics multiple times and not combining antibiotics with other medicines (decongestants and steroids). Sure the office is nice, but when you get to spend so much time in it dealing with long lasting and recurring ear and sinus problems, it gets old. I have been going to Cary Pediatrics for several years and this is the first time I have had an appointment at the Apex location. Initially, when I went to call to change my appointment time, the person that answered was very rude. Entering the office, I did not receive any type of greeting and once seen by Lori Bailey, NP she seemed completely rushed. We have been to see her at the Cary location and her demeanor was a lot different. Also, the nurse was terrible! I am a nurse my self and I was disturbed and had to say something to the nurse about what she was doing. She did not use safe practices when giving vaccines and did not have any concerns for the patient (my child). When leaving, the receptionist was very rude and told me "You can just leave," with a very snotty attitude. I left very displeased and I recommend this office do some reevaluating on how they operate. I read Samantha W.'s post and I feel that we had very similar experiences. This was the first time I have been to the Apex location and I promise I will never go back. I'm considering switching pediatrician offices all together. When we first started at Cary pediatrics, we would always see Julie Wilson, NP and she was absolutely the best. Since she has left I have not been completely satisfied. Dr. Bowman has an amazing level of patience and an incredible bedside manner when working with children of every developmental level and skill. I know I can count on him for a thorough and educated diagnosis. He is a breath of fresh air because he listens carefully to parents and the children themselves to make trusted medical decisions for treatment plans. read more

I recently switched to Apex Pediatrics after going to Triangle Pediatrics for years. I wanted to find a pediatrician that was closer to home. I really like the facility. The waiting room is decorated nicely and I like that the waiting room is separated into two different areas (sick and well). Every time that I have needed an appointment I have been able to get one right away. We have only seen Dr. Bowman and he was very attentive and explained things to both me and my children. Recently I took my four year old daughter to the doctor and the appointment involved looking under her underwear. Before he touched her he took time to explain to her that he is a doctor and it is ok that he looked under her clothes because mommy was there. I was impressed that he explained all of this to her. I am very happy that I switched pediatricians because they are close to my house, they always have appointments, and the doctors are very attentive. read more

This place was recommended to me by the doctors and nurses at daughter's NICU when she was being discharged from the hospital. With a medically fragile preemie, I needed to make sure I found a good pediatrician who would take my daughter's health seriously. I feel like Apex pediatrics has met that need. My only issue with the place is Dr. Johnson - she has a strong tendency to brush off all concerns and health problems. For instance, I talked to her several times about my oldest daughter's developmental delays and unusual behavior, and she insisted nothing was wrong and that she's likely catch up with the delays and outgrow the strange behaviors. Turns out she had severe autism, and I regret the time lost that could have been spent on early interventions. With my youngest daughter (just 1 year old at the time) she brushed off a chest cold with the beginnings of an ear infection and it turned into pneumonia and a double ear infection. We luckily avoided a hospitalization, but it frustrated me that such a serious illness could have been avoided with a course of antibiotics. I understand not wanting to overuse antibiotics, but I feel an infant with a chest cold and signs of an ear infection should not be left untreated in order to take a "wait and see" approach. My favorite doctor there is Dr. Bowman. I feel like of all the ones there, he takes a parent's concerns most seriously. Other things to note: I like that the waiting room is divided into well and sick sides, and that they have TVs playing kid-friendly movies. We have used Apex Pediatrics for the past 6 years and have been very happy with the care that we have received there. We have seen all three of the doctors there and have been very pleased with the care our children have received from all of them. Dr. Steele has been especially helpful in guiding us to the appropriate resources for our son, who has some developmental delays and Dr. Johnson has been very caring and attentive to our newborn daughter. We love that this practice has hours on Saturdays for sick visits at the Cary office. Overall, the staff has been very kind and helpful. Strongly recommened! read more

I find that Apex Pedatrics is either an understaffed office for the number of patients they have or it is an office that is uncaring and inefficient. I find this a common issue with larger pediatric offices. Three issues I've experienced in the past 6 months- waiting 5 weeks for a form to be filled out, a doctor refusing to see my son that ended up with him in the ER, and dealing with a rude office staff. The only positive experience was getting referrals to some great specialists with Duke for my son that has multiple medical issues. I do not recommend Apex Pediatrics. Sadly, I have little confidence in this practice to ensure my children are properly cared for. read more

I see other great reviews of this practice and over the last 5 years that we have been clients, I might have agreed. Unfortunately, our recent experience with this practice forces me to warn people away. Our 5 year old daughter had her Kindergarten vaccines on the afternoon of July 1. She was cranky the next morning but since she had no fever and really wanted to go to Pre K, I let her go. By 1pm, she had vomited 2 times. On my way to pick her up, I spoke to the Nurse at the practice, asking her if the vomiting could be an adverse reaction to the vaccine. She was adament that it most likely wasn't and that she probably had a virus . 5 minutes later, I got a call from daycare that she was unresponsive and 911 had been called to the school. Although we didn't know it at the time, She'd had a Fibrile seizure, most likely from the vaccines and this was not completely uncommon. By the time our girl was responsive, the paramedics suggested either the ER or our own pediatrician. To avoid subjecting her to the ER, we called Apex Pediatrics and told them what happened. We let them know that we wanted to come it (now 1:50pm) and we would like to be seen immediately. After putting me on hold for 4 minutes (while my daughter was still lying prone on the floor), she came back and said they couldn't see her until 4pm. I asked if she understood that 911 had been called and she'd had a seizure. She stated that she understood but they were busy. I won't go into the rest of the story of what we went thru except to say that the lack of care, concern and help from this practice was numbing. When I came in the next day to get her records, there was an utter lack of concern and no follow up to see what happened to our child. Apex Pediatrics may have started out with the best of intentions to practice Best Medicine for children, but in opening multiple locations, their interest in time and money seems to have outpaced their concern for medicine and for children. read more

The office has screwed up by calling in prescriptions incorrectly multiple times, the latest of which is very serious and we have not been able to get anyone to call in the correct prescription. My daughter is now 4 hours past her dose and no one seems to care. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS IF YOUR CHILD HAS SERIOUS MEDICAL NEEDS. I have been bringing my 2 sons here for the past 10 years. I will no longer be bringing them here. This practice has gotten too big and does not care any longer about serving their patients needs. A couple of instances over the years has led to this decision. The first instance was a time I missed an appointment due to a medical emergency my wife had. Granted I did not cancel 24 hours in advance but there has to be some understanding. Well there wasn't. The most recent instance is that my son was invited to participate in a sports camp and the form required a doctor's signature. I did not think there would be an issue since he just had a physical 2 weeks prior, well to my surprise they said it would take 72 hours. We need the form in 24 hours. I guess it is too difficult to get a signature on a piece of paper!!! We loved the doctors here but the office staff is what has driven our family. If you choose this doctor please don't expect anyone to do anything out of the ordinary for you or your child. I am disappointed I spent 10+ years giving them our business. read more

I would NOT recommend Apex Pediatrics to anyone! We have been going there for 1 1/2 years and I've been wanting to switch after the first few months, but put it off to give them another chance. I loved our first 1 or 2 visits there and Dr.Bailey was awesome! Since then, they have treated us like we were just money coming in and not an actual patient or human being! They tell you to come early to the visits and make you wait over an hour to be seen(even when you need something as little as a paper signed). The receptionist are not friendly at all, they act like they cant wait for there shift to end and somehow we are the ones holding them up. Some of the doctors are very rude by rushing us and doing a half ass job. There have been many times when our kids were sick and we had to bring them back several times(copay each time) because they told us nothing was wrong. After we bring them back they find out they have ear infections, etc... My husband forgot to ask the doctor a question, so he and back in and the doctor treated him like he was done with him and ruched him out the door(VERY RUDE WITH AN ATTITUDE). Appointments are horrible! We both work very crazy schedules and have one care at the moment, so we don't have alot of wiggle room. I called to schedule my sons check-up/shots weeks in advance and they called me the day of to tell me they were closing early for personal reasons. They never apologized, never tried to fit us in a different day. When I told them that the only other day he could come in is a few weeks from then, they simply said, okay. Yesterday, I called to schedule a check-up for my son with a requested doctor and they told me to call today(day of appointment) to fit him in. When I called this morning they told me that they COULD NOT fit me in. She said it would only be a sick visit and when I explained to her that they knew I needed a check-up she said nothing! Not a "sorry" or "I'm not sure why they sad that, let me see what I can do"......NOTHING! I'm DONE with this doctors office. They treat you like your money walking through the door and not a human being! They put on a face for new patients to get them in the door, but after you come in several times they are very rude and couldn't give a damn about your children! read more
