Between excellent service, from the host to the kitchen staff, and being a bright, cheery place decorated in a modern farmhouse feel (only complaint is the HARD seating), we love this place. The food is always delicious and seasoned perfectly with FLAVOR. For the appetizer, the Salad Pizza is absolutely scrumptious and was recommended by our server our first visit here last year. Honestly, it keeps bringing us back. The flavors are incredible. It has feta, mozzarella, topped with organic greens, shaved onions, tossed in a lemon/dijon dressing with shaved parmesan. It's a flavor bomb in the mouth. The meatloaf, is to die for. If you're a meatloaf eater this is for you. It's so tender and juicy and perfectly seasoned. Melts in your mouth and the sauce on top is the perfect blend of sweet and savory to top it off. For my two sides this time I chose the fried brussels sprouts and the greens. The greens are always seasoned perfectly and the brussels sprouts were crispy and full of flavor. They tasted even better dipped in my meatloaf sauce so that was a win-win. My boyfriend had the special which was short ribs. For his two sides, he had greens and green beans. The short rib was perfectly tender and absolutely delicious full of flavor and moist for him. The green beans and the greens were also perfect as well full of flavor, just enough fat and butter. It's a great little date spot or a family dinner. They also have outdoor seating covered with umbrellas. There's a bar inside with a TV if you choose to go watch sports and the food here is always on point full of flavor and makes you want to come back and try more things on the menu. You can't go wrong at southern roots.

The waitress was friendly and polite, and the place itself was nice and clean. It was a little loud inside, but nothing too crazy. I get takeout from here pretty often, and the food is always consistently good. I didn't get it this time, but I love their grilled Thai shrimp--it's definitely one of my favorites! Definitely one of my go-to spots!

Established in 1767, the mill is still operating today, which makes it feel like more than just a tourist stop. When we entered, a woman greeted us and explained how the mill works. After that, we headed into the shop, where they had all kinds of flours and baking mixes. I was impressed by how reasonable the prices were and ended up buying a few different flours to try at home. It was a simple but really enjoyable stop, and I'm glad we took the time to visit.

When you drive down the short gravel entrance, there is a historical marker describing some of the history including that the Old Mill of Guilford is among the oldest operating gristmills in the United States. The building and surrounding structures show the weather of time and are also very small especially when you compare with the commercial buildings of the present. There is a small porch with things to look at and ponder. The large water supply pipe going to the mill has lots of holes in it from years of use and rust. It does not appear that it has been in use for some time. We were greeted as soon as we opened the door by two ladies who were bagging flour. The older woman proceeded to tell us about the operation of the mill. She came closer and pointed out some of the pieces of the operation and showed us the small bucket elevator. Everything appeared very primitive and is still in operation from many years ago. There is a small shop to the right after you walk through part of the mill where they sell products they produce as well as other gift items. They ship throughout the US. We perused our way through the store and selected a few items to purchase. I am anxious to make the chocolate chip cookies with the mix that we bought. This was a really cool unanticipated experience. We never would have thought there was a place like this where it was. You should check it out!

The sign out by the road made me a little skeptical but I convinced my husband to turn around and let me take a look inside- I was sure glad we did. It has an abundance of everything you can think of if you like to bake or just enjoy to eat. I have been wanting to bake pumpernickel bread forever but finding all the ingredients just never happens but I was thrilled to find Every variety of flour from medium rye meal pumpernickel to einkorn. They even had the malt powder. Home I went to bake up my first loaf ever and it was excellent! The have all sorts of things, if you like to bake- thickening agents, Sugars, flavorings,...a variety of jams, cheese, meats, baking pans, gadgets... They have fresh baked bread-we brought home a loaf of sourdough bread- regular loaf style but was fresh and pretty good. Planning a trip back with some friends, there is a nice new cafe in Roxboro- Incorrigible Cafe, will grab lunch there and then head over to Yoder's for something different to do. There is also an old school house and jail in town. I believe you need an appointment to go inside. Also prices were good compared to Whole Foods. Worth a trip if you don't live nearby.
