Here's an update. My watch battery died after only 8 months of life. But it's under warranty at Creative Silver. I went over and the owner was friendly and kind. He was surprised my battery died, checked the date inside the watched, and set me up with a new one. No charge. I can vouch for the warranty system. And I'm even more of a fan as I was. Twelve stars. This gem located on the bottom floor of The Gallery. I first came here three years ago to get engravings on watches for my groomsmen. The service was excellent then and it still is today. George is helpful, polite and funny. He repaired a watch for me and had it ready within hours (and not a basic repair either). Now that's service. The pricing is extremely competitive at around 5$-$6 for a new battery. They have a warranty for 10 months. Found this business thru Yelp just because I was trying to find somewhere different to go for my jewelry needs and I'm so glad I did. George is absolutely wonderful. Not only did I get the best welcome ever. He is hilarious! So professional and yet so attentive with his work and ones needs. There is nothing negative I can say about him and his business. Get ready for great service and entertaining conversation with him. I went to get a couple of watches sized for my wrist and he was quick and efficient. I also gave him a ring to size up for me. I thought I was going to have to wait at least a couple of days for the ring to get done, but not here (even though jokingly he told me 40 days). I got my ring back in just a couple of hours. One of the few places in Philly that will not over charge you for a new watch battery. Prior to using this place, I had been going to a local place where it was costing $15 to keep replacing the battery that would die ever 4-5 months. I remembered this place, got my battery taken care of and it has lasted the longest in a while. The owner also reminds you that if the watch batter fails within a certain time frame, that he will replace it for free. For $7, that works well with my budget. read more

I have been too lazy to write a review for nearly a year (like, 2 or 3 days shy of a full year!), but I had to write about the stellar experience I just had. I broke a bracelet; the chain of which is stupid tiny. I once read that jewelers dislike the 'dainty accessory' trend because the pieces are difficult to repair. So I thought about taking it back to where it's from but the store is 5 blocks further so instead I looked up Jewelry Repair on Yelp! The owner fixed it up for me in the time it took to pick up dry cleaning 3 blocks away. I have to admit the transaction was so quick I never even got his name (but I read other reviews, it's George). He was knowledgeable (could tell the material based on the serial(?) number; honestly, I don't even know), efficient (less than 20 minutes work time), and when I returned, met me with a joke ("If you have any problems, don't come back!"). He was thoughtful and didn't let me take the bracelet back in a cardboard card holder I had in case the bracelet fell out. I tried to tip (is this offensive? tacky?) because I was so impressed at this point already, and unfortunately there aren't that many gestures with which one can express to a complete stranger "I appreciate what you have done". He actually turned it down by saying "I own the store, so I already made money off of you." If I was impressed before!! Is it excessive to say I found this kind of honesty admirable? I'm biased because I break/nearly ruin stuff all the time and my tailor always takes her tip and she always sounds a bit put upon. I'm really not used to someone fixing something for me, charging a fair price, and then refusing an additional tip because the price was fair in itself. In short, kids, don't break your stuff; but if you do, only go here! read more

These reviews have GOT to be from friends of this guy. He has got to be the rudest, most ignorant person I have encountered in years. My boss wanted to get an engraving done in a woman's gold ring, and I went here based on all the great reviews. Frankly I was wary of using a mall kiosk service but it was on the way to Jeweler's Row so I figured, why not? The guy charges $2 PER LETTER for engraving. Now this makes sense if you're getting your name or initials, but when someone wants an entire sentence around the inside of a ring, at 32 letters... $64 is outrageous. I am a firm believer in bartering. It is not only common and accepted but practically EXPECTED throughout Europe and many other parts of the world. For some reason, though, in America it's considered distasteful. So I simply said to him "Do you think there is any way you could do a little better than that?" And he ERUPTED in a RAGE!!!!! He basically told me to go 'f' myself, that he didn't need my money and his business was doing just fine without people like me. "You go walk in the heat and try your luck up on 10th street," direct quote. So I did walk to Jeweler's Row, and found an actual jeweler who charged me $20 to do the ring. With a smile. I own one of those fancy ABC watches whose battery runs out the more you decide to play with the fancy functions that you will likely never need living in the real world. That being said, my battery did run out about 14 months after my initial purchase, so I needed my battery replaced; whereas with most other watches, the back cover is held together by tiny tiny screws, mine was held together by what it seemed like a tiny version of Fort Knox. I was hanging out in the Market East area for the day so I popped into a few stores trying to get my battery replaced, everyone had difficulty getting the back plate to pop out and all returned me apologetic looks and more scratches on my back plate. The guys at Creative Silver took one look at my watch, grabbed some fancy magical tool and opened my watch right up, and I was wearing my now-working ABC watch within five minutes of visiting the stall. Prices are reasonable, the staff is very professional; they write the store/technician initials plus the date when the battery was replaced on the battery itself and tell you to come back if the battery dies within a year. The only thing the technician couldn't figure out how to do was set the time on my watch. That's okay; even after reading the 100+ page, 6-language manual that my watch came with, I'm not entirely sure either. read more

I had to go based off the yelp reviews and boy was glad I gave this shop a chance. I work in the city and I needed to get my watch fixed....it had stopped earlier in the day so I came on yelp and found this place. I decided to go during my break as soon as I entered this place I was greeted by George, the first thing that came out of my mouth...."I came here because of the Yelp reviews" His response: he smiled and then asked what can I help you with? I took off my watch and let him work his magic, this man literally said, "this will just take a few seconds....so just stand right there...." Believe the hype! After reading the reviews on Yelp, I wondered if Creative Silver was too good to be true. Also, The Gallery is generally a nasty place to go. But George at Creative Silver is a cool guy! My watch had stopped running. He took a look (evidently some dust had gotten somewhere it shouldn't) and had it back up and running within a few minutes at no cost! Note: He said he's not as good at repairing automatic watches but can give referrals for places that have expertise at repairing them. read more
