    Have driven past this place countless times and have always been intrigued by the eclectic nature I…read morecould see. Today, finally while driving past u saw that the open sign was on so I decided to make a quick stop and check it out. While I had a sort of strange and short experience I'll start with what I saw. Full of trinkets and a variety of items, it seems like a fantastic little spot to explore. The interior was not large, a small little shop likely food for a handful of people at a time, packed with things ranging from fun dishes, records, clothing, and random knickknacks. There was a little library outside along with larger pieces like statues and even some art pieces inside. Now I would love to go back and properly explore, get a better gauge of the pricing as well, but the reason I said "seems" earlier is that when I arrived, the lights were on, open sign was on, door was open. I walked in and there was some radio playing. But not a single person in sight, mind you it's a small space. I said "hello" a few times, stood there in plain view in case anybody walked out (last thing I wanted was to spook somebody on accident being behind a shelf or anything), and heard no response. I stood there a couple minutes, just looking around, but was a tad uncomfortable, not due to the place just the situation, and thus decided to leave and come back another time to more properly explore this space that seemed like a blend of an antique store and a child's playhouse. At least I now know their hours so I'll try again soon!

    CONTENT, CONTENT, content! The galleries exhibited here will not only capture your artistic eye,…read morebut they will provoke deed insight. The exhibits usually looks pretty sparse at first glance. Visual photography/video art installations with no markings next to pieces. FIND the gallery guide! This is where ALL the content is! Phone Home Durham, the latest gallery, was a compilation of community submitted cellphone shots. What's next, you say? An exhibit I'm VERY much looking forward to-- BRIDGE QUESTION: Black Males {Sept. 8-Nov. 21} This will be a documentary-styled video art installation!! It will provide a "safe setting for necessary, honest expression and HEALING dialogue on themes that divide, unite and puzzle black males today..." If just the discussion of this gallery has gotten your gears going, check out Power Plant Gallery! Every individual exhibit is drastically different, yet there are few galleries in the area that truly incorporate visually and intellectually stimulating works. This small gallery neighbors Full Frame Theater, and consists of one large, white walled room. I couldn't say it better than the gallery says it itself: a laboratory for documentary & experimental art practices at Duke U. The Gallery provides ongoing opportunities for Duke students, faculty & staff as well as Durham communities to consider the essential role and transformative capacity of the arts in society. Logistics: Gallery can make for a long or short stop. Small space, but full of content! Conveniently located at American Tobacco Campus, open Tuesdays-Saturdays {check the website, summer hours differ from winter hours}, easy to walk in and out and usually fairly quiet. Free two hour parking in two parking garages [and the gallery is free as well!]. TWO entrances, enter through the Full Frame Theater building (take a right in the boiler room and go through glass door) or enter through door to left of POWER PLANT graphic (see photo!) Gallery rotate every three months and is always open late during Durham's Third Friday Art Walk. {The www.powerplantgallery.org is VERY useful!}

    I rarely write reviews, but this place deserves one. Please excuse my length. They went above and…read morebeyond for me, but did so in a way that makes me believe they would do the same for any customer that walks in the door. After this experience, I know where all of mine and my businesses printing and framing needs will be taken care of from now on. Here it is: The Print Shop handled a couple important projects and needed them done quickly, and they delivered. I came in with three prints, all distinctly different. One was a signed photo of five living presidents, which they helped me create a custom frame for. The photo, a gift for my roommate, is one of a kind in terms of dimensions, and I had been all over the place trying to get a frame for it unsuccessfully. Not only were they able to build the frame I needed, they added a beautiful red, white, and blue backdrop. My roommate absolutely loved his gift. The Print Shop staff were so curious about the photo and genuinely engaging in talking about it. The second was a print for my business, which I needed put on canvas to display in the lobby. I get compliments all the time on the print, so again, all credit is due to them. The third item may be the most important in forming my opinion of The Print Shop. It was a gag gift for a gift exchange, so I just needed a good frame, but not too expensive of one. I picked one out that I liked and we started to measure the dimensions. I was fully prepared to pay for the frame I had picked out (somewhere around $55 I think). Once the measurements were done, Becky, the employee helping me with all of this, stopped me and said she had an idea. She went to the clearance rack and found me a frame that worked. It wasn't as nice as the one we had originally picked out, but once she realized it was for a gag gift, she encouraged me away from the custom frame and we found one that worked for about $20. This showed me that above all, Becky was concerned with meeting my needs, not simply making the sale. Bottom line - it is clear that this business is run by and full of people who love what they do, and those are the kinds of companies I enjoy bringing my business to.

    I couldn't be happier with the job the Frame & Print Shop did for me! The staff were genuinely…read moreinterested in my project and are clearly experts at their craft. I brought in three prints, each in a different color palette, that I wanted coordinated to hang in my kitchen. Ash was a great listener and spent a lot of time matching just the right matte color to the content and finding a frame that brought them together and made them look like they belonged in that particular room. I love how they look!
