I went to this dentist during the heat of the pandemic because my original dentist was closed. I had extreme pain. I ended up needing a root canal or so I was told. I was told a price ahead of time and when I checked out it was 200 dollars more I questioned it and was told because they went through my crown instead of my actual tooth.. I ended up just paying but definitely had a bad taste in my mouth. Get this even after I paid more than what I was quoted I'm still getting a bill! The worst part about all of this is that I ended up getting this very tooth extracted it was causing me so much pain still! Turns out they left part of a tool from the root canal in my canal and cement. After going and getting a cone scan my dentist confirmed! It's so obvious on the X-ray too. I lost my tooth and they still want more money from me! I say run as fast as you can. I'm in the process of getting a lawyer. I want my money back. This has caused me so much emotional stress and anxiety. read more

Im not even going to go through the long paragraph on the whole situation. What it boils down to is, the work you receive from the dentist here is amazing. But when it comes to the integrity of the office manager, and her accountability for your money... That's when everything goes downhill. They overcharged me 1st off, and when I ask them to explain the charges (the charges on the receipt in black and white), the charges didn't add up. my health insurance explained to me, the dentist office should be able to provide me a break down of the dental work to be done, the cost, and what financial responsibilities I have vs. what is covered by my insurance. I have yet to receive that. The office manager kept saying she couldn't, but then later said she could, but I still have yet to receive it. In my honest opinion I really feel she is looking at me as a minority who doesn't know anything, because why would a dentist office tell me to my face they can't provide me with a breakdown? I basically had to verbally fight to get a breakdown of the work that was already done! That's how I figured out that the math isn't mathing (adding up). Now I'm calling the office, to figure out when is she going to send the breakdown (because she told me I would receive it like 2 weeks go), but they're sending me straight to voicemail. Now again, I not absolutely sure this has anything to do with discrimination, because I hate just putting that label on people and situations.. but what I do know for sure is, there were "other people" asking for breakdowns of the work they need to receive, and they were getting just that!!! Here I am months later (because I believe the work started in September) and I have yet to receive the information I requested.. so y'all be the judge! I said I wasn't going to do paragraphs, and I did it anyway smh.. I can't sit idly by and allow this type of behavior.. the ppl have to know! I guess I will have to take a L (loss) on the money they overcharge me and find another good dentist and hope that I will receive fair and honest dealings.. read more

Summary: Appalling COVID practices, find another dentist for your own safety. I was already uncertain about this dentist--a billing issue and an overly touchy-feely dentist (there's no need for Dr Bellafiore to touch my arm and back as I leave the office) raised red flags, but I needed a dentist in the area etc. Today I went in for an appointment, arrived on time, checked in with the usual temperature check, hand sanitizer etc. Then I waited 20 min past the time of my appointment, during which time there was someone else in the waiting room who wasn't wearing a mask, and who sat there for 15 of those 20 min maskless. It's a small space with poor ventilation. I went up to the front desk to ask if I'd be seen soon, as I didn't want to miss an upcoming meeting and was hoping to get out of the enclosed space with someone unmasked. That's when I discovered that neither of the receptionists were wearing masks either. I had been trying to give them the benefit of the doubt--I thought I had seen one of them walking around the office without a mask, but that seemed absurd, because patients need to remove their masks for care. They were apologetic about the delay in the appointment, but at this point it had been 25 minutes since my appointment was set to begin, and felt unsafe being in an enclosed, poorly ventilated space with people who clearly have no regard for the safety of their patients. The person apologizing to me was maybe 4 feet away, and wasn't wearing a mask. Really not sure what planet they're living on, but apparently it's one without COVID. As people get sicker across our city, and I'd love to know why this practice has such a blatant disregard for the safety of their patients and their community. read more

I saw Dr. O'Connor after speaking with Lisa the patient coordinator on e-mail and on the phone, Lisa was amazingly sweet and helpful - the entire team when I arrived was incredibly nice & relaxed. Dr. O'Connor is amazing, a very calming bedside manner, explains things in a way that is both helpful and reassuring. Highly recommend. read more

I tried this dentist because he accepts my insurance and is close to my office. But at my first visit he diagnosed me with FOUR cavities requiring two visits worth of drilling. I've only had one cavity in my entire life. Sensing a scam, I got a 2nd opinion from my former dentist in my hometown, who has decades of experience. After a thorough examination including X-rays, he concluded that I don't even have one cavity. A third person triple checked and came to the same conclusion. I know that some dentists accept insurance but then charge for procedures that their patients don't need (see, e.g., recent exposés in The NY Times). I'm not saying Bellafiore is doing this, but my experience is highly suspect. Proceed with caution. read more

My update is even more disappointing then the post. After numerous emails to the front desk and manager requesting the X-rays that I paid for to be sent to me (so I can at least have them for a different dentist) they have not responded at all. So they would not refund my money, nor even send me the X-rays that I paid for. Just to add insult to injury. I also have Delta Dental PPO and I am well aware that when I have a dentist appointment that there is ALWAYS a co-pay which must be made at the time of the appointment -- Dr Bellafiore is in the PREMIERE plan which means that I have to pay the difference (which I am willing to do because I love going to this dentist office so much). Every time I have an appointment, the staff makes sure Marie, Geri, and the rest of the staff are absolutely lovely and always helpful. Once again I have never had a problem here and my family and I will continue coming back here as long as Dr. Bellafiore is here! :) read more

There is no one better that I have been to for cosmetic dental work in the city. For regular cleanings they are on the expensive side. Dr. Bellafiore is very thorough though and one of the best, so you get what you pay for. I went here for years and now go to another dentist because I moved, but still go back when I need cosmetic work done. The staff is very nice and the atmosphere is relaxing if you have to wait, and you rarely do have to wait. read more

I searched around a long time for someone to help me with my bite. Thankfully I was referred to Dr. Bellafiore. I grind at night and everything hurt. I started going to Dr Bellafiore about 8 years ago, and after a good bit of necessary work and a new carefully calibrated nightguard, I am completely pain free. It's been over 6 years since the bulk of the work was done. My teeth feel stable and strong. Amazing! I continue to visit the office twice a year for cleanings. Marie, the dental hygenist, does a wonderful job helping me maintain my teeth. Lisa at the front desk keeps things running smoothly. Each member of the staff that I have come in contact with is professional, cheerful, and kind. It's a pleasure to go there. The offices have been recently renovated too! read more

Starting with the office. There's an air of friendliness and warmth, matched with an efficient professionalism that makes the administrative portion of the experience easy. A plus. The staff and the hygienists are cool, experienced, and fun. Cleanings are a breeze, and I always feel like I'm being taken care of. I've had a crown replaced here, some x-rays, and a filling (or two?), and all experiences were as good as I could ask for, considering the physical realities of dentistry. Throbbing tooth, radiating pain, promtly took myself to Bellafiore very expectant of quality service. Reception, great. Bedside manner, terrific, warm. Diagnosis - your tooth has a vertical crack, bacteria has spread to the root, you must have a root canal - immediately. Just to make sure, go see my colleague across the street, I'll get you in immediately - you can have this done tomorrow. Endodontrics LLC saw me first thing in the morning. Confirmed diagnosis, tooth is cracked. Root canal immiment. Projected price tag 5k. Any alternatives, I asked. Well you can go and get a temporary crown while you think about it. That might help with the pain. I'll give him a call. Unbeknownst to Endodontrics, armed with sticker shock, I marched myself to Hanson Dental, in Metrotech, (uhm, Myrtle and Flatbush)covered by my insurance but so...clinic with, you know "clinic" front desk staff, that I never went there. Three specialists later (an oral surgeon and two root canal guys) - because I vigorously defended the Bellafiore prognosis - I learned I had a shallow cavity and a gum inflammation. Price tag - $190 co-pay. Dentists, this one, is like that random mechanic, who sees you coming. I am very motivated to file a formal complaint. Keep you posted. 11/2010 So several dentists later, my tooth is still not 100% problem - I am still in a holding pattern. But it seems as if Bellafiore was not the problem - I have discovered dentistry is not an exact science and they are all guessing - the opinions fell evenly on both sides of the fence. Beware of Matthew Bellafiore, DDS!!! I had a very bad experience with him. He recommended 2 relatively expensive procedures (replacing a bridge and a gold inlay to fill a cavity in a wisdom tooth). I felt he pushed me to start the latter while I was in the dentist's chair and I was very upset during and after the appointment, and I was in pain. I got 2 second opinions, which cost me time and money, and both dentists told me they disagreed with the recommendations. They both said they do not believe in gold inlays for wisdom teeth and both said my bridge was structurally sound. I believe Dr. Bellafiore owes me money, and I am taking him to court. I have lost hours of work and suffered what I believe to be unnecessary pain from his dental work. read more

I moved to Brooklyn over 2yrs ago from the west cost. Had no idea where I could find a good dentist. I used zocdoc and found great reviews for Dr. Bellafiore and thought I'd give him a try. Sure enough, this office lives up to their reviews and reputation. The office is convenient, cute and welcoming. The wait is short and they attended to me right away. I got my check up from Dr. Bellafiore and got my cleaning from Marie. They are both Amazing, fun and very knowledgeable. I've never felt so comfortable at a dentist before my entire life. I left my appointment more than satisfied with my choice to come here. I've now have had over 5 visits with this dentistry and every visit was consistent with prompt and kind service. I love this place! I have had some pretty bad experiences with other dentists, but this office is truly a great place to go. I have been a patient of Dr. Bellafiore's for a few years. He has an excellent hygienist, Marie, who is attuned to detail and knowledgeable. Dr. Bellafiore is brilliant, in my book. He crafted me a new crown, paying attention to every aspect of my care when I was in his chair. He plays Sinatra (in the early morning) and has just a great personality and charm. I have been a patient of Dr. Bellafiore for over 20 years. Under his preventive care and the wonderful work of Marie and Andrea, I have had little done. Recently, and old crown from many years ago BB (before Bellafiore), developed a hairline crack and was causing some pain. The diagnosis was quick and though the crack was not immediately apparent, it did show immediately on the x-ray. I will continue with his recommended treatment, an implant. Through my experience with Dr. Bellafiore, I have learned that a dentist is not only a medical professional, but also an artist and craftsman who takes great pride in the finished product. The cleaning seemed fine, but both the dentist and dental hygienist suggested mostly unnecessary treatments amounting to a proposed treatment plan that was over $1100. This plan included 2 cavities that supposedly needed filling urgently, 2 other cavities that were less urgent, and a special protective toothpaste ($28) for 2 weeks of use (only available for purchase at their office). I chose not to make a next appointment and went to another dentist for a second opinion. The dentist at another office only found one cavity. He even double-checked each of the 3 other teeth that supposedly had cavities, but he said that they were not cavities. Another interesting thing was that the one cavity that he did confirm was not even one of the "urgent" cavities found by Dr. Bellafiore - it was one of the "less urgent" ones. read more

Eek! Methinks Not! Here's why I give this practice a "Eek! Methinks Not! rating. 1. The cleaning service was sub-par. 2. Fillings by Dr. Rome caused me discomfort/pain for over 3 months (I've had a number of fillings done elsewhere and this moderate work was the worst that I've had). 3. My balance was debated for more than 12 months between my insurance provider (Oxford) and this practice. After 12 months of my insurance provider debating this bill, my remaining balance, which was lowered from several hundred dollars to less than $100, after countless hours of phone calls, my balance was sold by this practice to a debt collection agency called C-Tech Collections. My insurance provider tried to dispute the claim with the debt collection agency based on my stated benefits and an itemized bill from Dr. Bellafiore's office, but the debt collection agency refused to modify the balance. I believe this debt will affect my credit for the next 7 years--and it was debt that I could have settled but initially refused to based on my insurance benefits and the advice of my insurance company. read more

Update: beware of this practice, Dr Rome is no longer here and after my excellent review above which was mostly for Dr Rome and Geri (the office manager) I will not be returning. My treatment finished in May '13, my husbands treatment finished in August '13. In December '13, we were sent a bill for $500 this was after we were told we didn't owe anything. I called and was told to disregard it because Geri had allegedly worked out people bills wrongly- therefore not our fault. Today I received the bill again this time threatening me with 'Collections'. Also one of my co workers had some work done there last week they told her that at most the treatment would cost $200 - they charged her $350 - with no real explanation. Go here at your own risk - used to be good but now underhand - you have been warned. read more

Dr. Bellafiore and his staff are wonderful. First, he was instrumental in saving a tooth. My predecessor dentist wanted to do an implant but Dr. B. saved the tooth with a crown. He is an incredibly talented professional. His support staff is also excellent, i have worked with Lisa, Marie and Andrea. They are pleasant and always get their respective jobs done well and graciously. The environment is also lovely - the fresh flowers in the waiting area, the chapsticks that you receive and are urged to use so that your lips are not uncomfortable from the procedures and the warm, scented towel to freshen up at the end of the procedure. i had a tooth pain while traveling. I was smart enough to buy trip insurance but I had no idea who to call in New York. I called the insurance company and they gave me Dr. Bellafiore's name. I got in the same day. He was a cheerful man in the middle years of his practice. The office was clean and well maintained. He checked my tooth, took an x-ray and told me there was some inflammation and wear. to see my dentist when I got home. to Wisconsin. The bill was $125 and the insurance had a $50 deductible, so I get back $75. Would I see him again? Definitely. read more

Moved from Brooklyn Heights to Queens and still take the 1-hour subway ride out to get my teeth cleaned twice a year here. Everyone is extremely nice and concerned about your comfort, while you're waiting and during a procedure. Will keep returning as long as they take my insurance! read more

Myself and my wife visited Doctor Bellafiore because he was contracted with our dental plan (Delta Dental PPO). After having several fillings put in, and a crown for my wife, we were informed by our insurance company that Dr. Bellafiore had overcharged us by $1674! Basically, rather than using the rates that the insurance company had negotiated with his office, they charged us whatever they felt appropriate. Between the money they accepted from the insurance company and several credit card payments they insisted we make before any service was provided, we paid Dr. Bellafiore about $4,000 for what turned out to be $2,256 worth of work. I've been after the outstanding balance for about 5 months now, and the office doesn't return my calls. If you choose to use Dr. Bellafiore, be sure to speak with your insurance provider first, maybe shop around a little, and determine how much you should pay him, don't take their word for it! read more
