This was my 1st time here & I saw Makayla. She is very nice, actually all the staff was very…read morefriendly. The environment was nice & because of all the amazing online reviews, I thought I picked the perfect place! I had 2 yrs of growing out a VERY short, icy blonde pixy/undercut. I've always worn very edgy & on trend styles - both short & longer. My hair became much curlier over the last 4-5 yrs so I thought I'd really embrace my curls this time. I have very fine 2C-3A curls. So they frizz easily & it goes flat on top /sides if I don't use the right products. My natural color is a level 6 ash blonde/brown but there was a solid 3 in. of growth in my roots while the rest was a brassy reddish. It was my intention to really brighten it up but also get a cut that would enhance volume & texture. I hadnt touched the color in over a year. I decided I wanted to do a really bright copper shade with a few really dark lowlights to ground that shade. I showed a few pictures of the cut I wanted - nothing crazy but the cut NEEDED to be a particular shape (one we see often in curly hair as it supports volume) & it would also allow me to play up the style in different ways too. Straight cuts just do not work & what I was asking for was very realistic for my texture & length. It's a cut very specific to curly hair & would have created volume & the shape is flattering to my face shape. So like I said, my previous cut was VERY grown out & the color was VERY drab too. I let it go this long so there wouldn't be any issue w/obtaining the style I wanted. It's hard to know sometimes how it's going to come out until you get home & style it yourself with your most loved products. I didn't want it blow dried that day because I needed to see how it would look diffused. Normally I let it dry about 80% by itself to get a good curl cast & THEN I go in & style it with the dryer & products. It's how I get the volume I need. Otherwise my hair is very flat despite the curls. I included before & after photos & no doubt my new color is pretty but its wasn't bright enough to lowlight. She did 1 color & it created a root shadow because of what I already had when I came in. Yes the shade is pretty but nowhere near what I was asking for. And the cut?? It's basically a trimmed version of my original style-less grow out. Yes, my trimmed ends helped my curls to pop back up A LITTLE, & yes they are less stringy but I'm wearing the exact same hairstyle (or lack of one) that I came in with. It's very heavy on top, no volume & super boring. It's also very boxy, which is reminiscent of something that works on straight hair. There's nothing nothing about the cut that's even remotely close to what I requested. It's healthier & the color is less drab but there's no style to it. I feel terrible even writing this review but I'm just not happy. If a customer explains specific curly hair needs such as fine hair that lacks volume, & they're communicating they need a cut to thwart that, it's important the stylist knows how to cut it that way. Curly hair care is VERY different from straight hair. I have not touched up the photos except to cover my face with emojis lol. I don't do selfies. I paid a lot of money for very little result. I honestly thought I was going to be much happier than I am. Unfortunately I think I need a stylist who specializes in curly hair cuts & will accommodate my color requests too. I wanted to do volume extensions at Head Rush but I'm having second thoughts now. I can't explain why my requests weren't met, I didn't ask for anything that was unreasonable or couldn't be done. It makes me sad because I thought I found a place I would be happy at. Tap on each photo so you understand.

Cost Cutters - Showing length of hair and I trimmed ear

    Cost Cutters

I walked into the Cost Cutters located at the Big Y Plaza just off of Hazard Avenue in Enfield and…read moreupon doing so an employee asked me if I had an appointment. I explained that I did not but pointed out the sign stating "No Appointment Necessary" to which I was informed that they perform appointments. This was strange since the woman that was telling me this has cut my hair several times in the past and as the rest of the employees finally wandered out from the back there were 4 employees and absolutely no customers in the store. I was sat in a stool and I told the hair stylist how I wanted my hair cut which isn't to hard considering I get a military type hair cut with a #3 shear all the way around and just shortening the top comb-able to the right and trimmed around the ears. I don't believe I was in that chair for more than 5 minutes. Towards the end of the haircut I reminded the stylist I wanted my hair trimmed around my ear's. She replied ok and picked up a different shear and fidgeted around my left ear but it didn't even feel as if she had trimmed anything. She never trimmed my right ear and at the end she sprayed my head with a water bottle which I thought she was going to blow dry my hair but that didn't occur. She told me she was done as I stood up dripping water from my face. The lack of attention to her job certainly wasn't missed on the 4 ladies discussions about who makes the best carry out pizza, Collatta's and the problem she was having with her toilet at home, specifically the float bulb. When I went to pay I was in shock when I was told my bill was $30 for a haircut. I asked about this stating I had been in there on several occasions and never paid that much. There was to my knowledge that I saw and prices posted or I never would have had my hair cut there. The stylist replied that Cost Cutters management raised the haircut rates back during COVID-19 in order to pay its employee salaries. Although I was walking out like a wet dog I did give the stylist a tip because she gave me the biggest tip on how Cost Cutters cares about its customers and jacked up their prices according to the stylist to pay employee salaries. It's hard to believe that Cost Cutters advertises itself as a family friendly business with prices to help families afford the cost of hair care for all of their family members. I don't know what is going on at this store and one of the things that I can think of is the woman that first greeted me and gave me flack about not having an appointment was present during the summer when I walked into the store with the front doors wide open, a pocket book sitting in a chair by the cash register but no employees in or around the store. I was in the store for several minutes calling out for an with no response when I finally called the police to respond believing that the store could have been robed and something happened to the employees. While the police were responding employees began coming in the store from the back. They said they had gone out the back door to smoke. The police department was contacted and told what had occurred and they were canceled. After having worked 29 years in law enforcement myself I've seen enough. With the abandoned business incident to the hack job of a haircut I just received, photos included I'm done. I will not be back.

I understand the business , I too was a stylist in Enfield for many years.
