I was desperately needing a highlight when a friend told me her sister went to this stylist on…read moreHazard Ave. and was over-the-moon happy with her very recent highlight which was also very reasonably priced. This sister, by the way, has "fancy hair" - you know, the kind that always looks spendy (because it usually is) and unattainable for us blue-collar girls? Yep. So I found Jackie online and immediately emailed to make an appointment. With just a few emails regarding schedules, I had my appointment and counted the days eagerly. Cuz I reeeeeally needed a freshening up (oh, winter, how I hate thee). The glorious day arrived and couldn't wait to get started. Jackie works inside Tony's Salon Di Eredita, which I'd never been in but found to be a modern mix of barber shop and salon. Busy, clean, and appealing in neutral decor (think modern farmhouse). Meeting Jackie was a joy. She's a young woman who knows her craft well. She's articulate, knowledgeable, and she's not afraid to answer questions like, "Honestly, how do you think this will look?" Because I like truth. I like honesty. When I ask you, "Do you think ashy-cool is a good look for me?" ... I don't want your mouth saying, "It'll be great!" when your mind is thinking, "It's going to wash her out, but if it's what she wants..." So after some sharing of ideas--and Jackie has some fantastic ideas--she went to work. And work she DID. For hours and hours. Um, and hours (I told you I needed a freshening up). But I was comfortable and happy, kicking back and chatting about the deep love of family and the passion one has for one's profession--and Jackie has both in abundance! When all was said and done, my hair looked fabulous. It was brightened up, perfectly toned, and gorgeously styled. Fantastic, right?? Absolutely. But what super-extra (yes, it's a thing) impressed me was 1. no weird "I just got my hair highlighted" lines, marks or streaks...zip, zero, nada, NONE and 2. my hair looked alive again...there was a gloss and healthiness and life that hadn't been there when I walked in Like my friend's fancy-haired sister, I was over-the-moon happy. AND it was, yes, very reasonable. I know that's not specific enough to be really helpful, but you can click over to her website and see her (very reasonable) fees and services. Thank you, Jackie!! I am so thankful for your ideas and your talent!!

I had a GC for a therapeutic massage, so that's why I went. The GC was almost 2 years old, but…read morethey honored it without a blink of an eye, so I was happy. I've been there twice now for massages. I wanted to make sure I went more than once before I gave a review. I found the vibe to be "stuffy", not "calming" when I entered. The gentleman at the desk is abrupt and business-minded - not warm or inviting. I wasn't immediately acknowledged or greeted when I arrived, and when I was acknowledged it was transactional. I had Jamie for my therapeutic massage. She was welcoming and nice and asked some initial questions about pressure preferences, any pain points, areas I would like concentrated on or avoided. I made me feel comfortable. The room was calming, with muted lights and soft music. Very soothing. When Jamie started, she checked with me to make sure the pressure was good - would I like more or less, etc., but she wasn't overly chatty, which I liked. It was an hour massage and Jamie did not skimp at all. I was very pleased. When I returned to the desk after the massage, the gentleman just told me I was all set. He didn't ask if I enjoyed the massage and didn't ask if I would like to schedule another. I had to ask if I could book another massage with Jamie. It felt like I was bothering or interrupting him. I booked another massage in a month. I was surprised that I continued to feel better for many days post-massage. I didn't expect the effects to last as long as they did. It was definitely worth the time and price.

used a costmetology student on my hair when they didnt have a license to do what they were doing on…read moremy hair. did a blowout and it wasn't straight and the ends were still very curly. somehow got double booked and was rushing my haircut along and paying no attention. my ends are uneven and choppy. she pulled all my hair to the front to show me her 'work' and one side was fairly longer than the other and she told me it was fine but it was very obvious. I had to straight out tell her 'you need to fix this' and when she did it was still choppy but it was to the point she's cutting my hair too short and im giving up. This salon is overpriced and I paid $80 dollars for a quick wash, blowout and hair trim of not even 3 inches.

I really wanted to love this place. A friend of mine recommended this place and her stylist,…read moreShannon, and since my "usual" salon is about 45 minutes away, I decided to attempt to find a nearby salon. Shannon was perfectly friendly and nice. I liked talking with her and...well, like I said, I really wanted to love this place. I really wanted to love Shannon! And I feel badly writing this review, but I have to be honest. First: The air conditioning was broken and it was a hot summer day. The windows were open and the ceiling fans were on, but it was so uncomfortable. I was paying $100+ to be pampered--sweating it out in a stylists chair had not been what I had in mind. Next, Shannon and I had trouble agreeing on a shade of hair dye because the samples she showed me were on super shiny, synthetic hair that reflected under the lights. I couldn't possibly get a good idea of what the color was because I couldn't really SEE it. I took the swatches from her and tried to angle them to see them better, but it didn't work. I almost asked if I could take them outside (the lighting in there is VERY harsh) but I felt like I would have looked silly, so I didn't. I wish I had. I finally told her I wanted a "vibrant" but not "clownish" red. I brought in photos of Christina Hendricks and Karen Gillam for reference. The biggest problem happened next. Shannon mixed the dye (and stripper, since I was going lighter) and applied it to my roots first. This might be okay if you're going darker with your hair--but I was going lighter, and roots ALWAYS lighten the easiest, within a few minutes. You're always, always, always supposed to dye the roots last if you're "lifting' color. When she washed the color out after 30-40 minutes, it was completely uneven. My roots were day-glo orange (clownish!), while the rest of my hair was a more reasonable red. She told me two things: 1) That the indoor lighting here was too harsh, it didn't really look as bad in real life as it did in the mirror and 2) that it would gradually fade after I washed it a bunch of times. I had asked for the dead ends to be cut off, and a side bang and some long layers added. I had told her I was a little nervous about the layers, but that if she thought the photo I had brought in would look good and flatter my face, that I would trust her. She said she thought it would look good. Then she unceremoniously cut a chunk of hair over my left eyebrow (not a nicely shaped, angled bang like I had had in mind--I could have done a hack job at home if I had wanted that!) and cut off the dead ends, but then she blew my hair dry and said "all done". (Afterwards, my friend agreed that she didn't think she had cut any layers. It took me two months to find a "layer" in my hair. One layer. Definitely not the photo I had brought in--like she just decided not to do layers without even getting my approval.) I liked Shannon and I had gone in to Heads Up with every intention of making her my new go-to stylist. Instead, I paid over $100 for a halo of orange hair and a not-very-good haircut. Not happy. Also important to note: When I sat down with her she asked if I had any dye in my hair. I told her that I had last used henna three months ago. At this point, she should have turned me away, but didn't. (Henna, when dyed over, has terrible chemical reactions--everything from color changes (green, blue!) and oily reactions. I'm experiencing the oily reaction at this point.)
