I was texting with Susan and she let me know she had availability at night at 715. (I was there for 5 hours total). I went in and there was another client she was working on, along with boxes everywhere. She let me know she had just moved in that day. It was a long while before she even began with me, finally placed the smallest amount of solution of the Brazilian blowout as a ring at the top of my head all at once, and left me for a good 45 mins to look for the comb. The solution completely dried (still only at the top) and I worried the treatment wouldn't work and was reassured that it still got in my hair after she proceeded to brush it in after find a full brush since couldn't find the comb. I'm really disappointed with the treatment, and the amount of times I was left hanging while she spoke to others, or looked for things. And honestly I would've been ok if at least the treatment felt like it worked. Its still frizzy and unmanageable and I've done brazilian multiple times and this was nothing like my other treatments. I tried messaging a few times after washing my hair and after returning from my travels to ask if she'd be willing to work something out with me- and all she could offer is for me to come back and pay half the amount which I can't justify going back. You get what you pay for. I'm sad that I had a terrible experience here, if you're a mom with little time on your hands, find a place that will honor your time better. read more

I have gone to many places and they always cut way too short. She knew what my hair needed and did a treatment. She really cares about her clients and treats them like family. Service with a smile as Susan took care of my me and recommended a couple shampoos for my fine hair. It's been a long time since I received great customer service. I found my new stylist Susan on here. She offered me a better deal on the Brazilian blowout than my last stylist did. And she's honest & easy to talk to. She is experienced & she uses the original Brazilian blowout which is different from the express or regular one. It's more expensive, and it lasts longer. Some stylists will lie about using the original formula or they won't use as much formula on a clients hair as they need to on purpose. That's so clients will need to come back less than 3 months after it's done. If you follow instructions & don't wash your hair more than once or twice a week, it should last about 3 months. No hairdresser has ever told me that. Also, she is the only stylist who has ever given me complimentary deep conditioner & a Brazilian spray to use when I wash my hair at no extra charge. She told me that if you don't get that when you get this treatment, then your stylist isn't being honest with you, or that they aren't that knowledgeable about how to do this procedure right. She won't ever do anything to your hair if she thinks that it's not right for your hair. I saw her again after she asked me how my hair was doing. I told her it's still to wavy in a few areas in the front, so she redid those spots at no charge. She is passionate about what she does & she charges less for her services than most places do as she's not greedy. She's nice & honest. If she thinks that a certain treatment will damage your hair, she won't do it. This place is located in a small shopping center. I'll come back to see her again for certain! So I got the Brazilian blowout treatment done here a few weeks ago. I am so happy with the transformation. When I say transformation- I don't mean just the end result; I also mean the process itself. And the most important thing about the process was SUSAN. Now, she is not just a stylist, she is a hair doctor! She knows what's good for your hair, what's bad for you hair, what's right and wrong. Being able to feel confident in her, enough to even let her take her own decisions about what's best for my hair is something I don't think I will ever find anywhere else. My hair was the most unmanageable hair- long, super curly, super frizzy and dense. On top of it, I've mistreated my hair over the years exposing to heat, (blow dried and straightened my hair at least twice a week), neglected to apply masks or oils and even heat protector, had a cheap (bad) haircut from else where. So to top it, my hair was severely damaged. Susan followed the entire process of giving me the Brazilian treatment with a lot of patience and love and care. The rinsing stage, to blow drying and finally straightening. It took almost eternity because of the volume of my hair, but she worked relentlessly! She also gave my hair a good trim to undo all the shabbiness from the previously bad hair cut I walked in with. She even gave the after care instructions, recommendation on what hair products to use. She gave a bit of hair mask to take home with me (along with a shower cap!) which was to be applied on the hair 24 hours after the treatment. In the photo: 1. Don't judge a book by its cover. Especially when I'm here to get a new cover! :) I saw Creative Concepts on Groupon and looked up their reviews on Yelp. I was most impressed with Jennifer's work (not sure why all her pictures have been pulled). Since I wanted Jennifer specifically, I called to check if she accepted Groupons. (Stylists aren't always salon employees. Often, they just rent the chairs. It's a good idea to check if various discounts are honored before purchase.) While Jennifer did not accept Groupons, we worked something out. Disappointments: Jennifer was ready to get some blonde highlights started before asking me for inputs. I asked for purple because my hair could only handle red tones. She never showed me any color samples. She gave me red highlights. :P I knew my a-line was overgrown but I wasn't exactly a frumpy middle age woman. I thought of myself as a cool gal who had had her hair long/short, red/blonde/purple/blue, curly/straight. When I asked for a side-cut, Jennifer said, "That's too fancy for you". My feelings were hurt. :( Upsides: Jennifer was very patient with my cut. I had some ideas but I wasn't sure what would work for my face. We had a lot of back and forth. Jennifer was accommodating with tweaks as we went along. I ended up with an asymmetric a-line with a shaved underside. The finishes were very good. Hitting it out of the park on first visit is too much to ask for. Many of us are very critical and particular with our looks. I can definitely work with Jennifer. PS: When I walked into the salon, the staff resembled the UN summit. Their diversity should handle ALL hair types. They were all very friendly while I waited for my appointment. PPS: I had time to spare at the salon so I got some waxing done. Kathy was super nice. And she checked my underarm with a big o' magnifying glass. I liked how thorough she was. Ok, so I had never been here before and I was a tad nervous. Up until now, I'd been driving 30 minutes away to get my hair done for the last 5 years. The place I normally went to has been leaving me unimpressed, and I was sick of the drive & high price tag, so I called and got an appointment with Susan. I hadn't had my hair touched in almost half a year and I wanted to go back to blonde after having my hair dyed red back at my "regular" place a while back. The red had faded to a dingy orange and my dirty blonde roots were several inches out. I was desperate to go back to something brighter and prettier for the summer, and I wanted my comfortable classic blonde back! I'm so lucky I found Susan. She REALLY understands color! It's not an easy feat to go from red to blonde! She managed to get the highlights and lowlights perfect while still preserving the integrity of my VERY fine hair. I have lots of breakage from having two babies in a row, and Susan knew it was a fragile situation. I give zero stars to this place. If you want bad service and damaged hair, come to this place and see Sara Tahiry. She will really mess you up. I bought a groupon for a cut and partial highlights for $70. I was so excited how cheap it was going to be and Sara had an opening for 1:30. I arrived there exactly at 1:30. She was still with another client and asked me to wait a few minutes. That few minutes turned to 45 minutes! I was finally seated and she took a 15 minute break chatting with someone in the back. I was ready to walk out, and she was finally ready to work. She started on the highlights first. She was 1/3 done, another client came in, who bought a groupon for a deep condition and cut came in and decided to stop working on my highlights to work on the next girl. Really? She could have finished they highlights and stuck me in the dryer. My regular lady works on my highlights and does my roots, then keeps me under the dryer, but I think that would be too advanced for this stylist. Sara worked on my highlights, put me under the dryer, did my roots and then put me under the dryer again. Anyway, she washed my hair and instead of blow drying my hair...she stuck my under the dryer again!!! To make things worst, I saw a chunk of my hair on the seat of the dryer i spent most of my time under!!! I am sure she saw it. I saw it from across the room. She never mentioned it nor apologized for burning a chunk of my hair off. Those strands came off the top of my head so I have short strands sticking up now like a bird!! She gave me the most rapid hair cut I've ever gotten. It was striaght, with no style and UNEVEN. One side clearly did not match the other. She curled the ends so I didn't notice while i was in the salon, but I noticed the horrible job 2 days later after I shampood my hair. Sara said she gave me highlights where my gray would grow (ive had grays since i was 16. =(), but didn't even dye the gray. WTF! I basically went to the salon to cover my gray and she didn't cover them. Instead, she made my highlights lighter to appear more white than the golden blonde the rest of my highlights are, and said "this way, when the gray grows, no one will notice". What kind of logic is that? She wants me to look like Cruella Deville??? She didn't cover the roots where I have low lights as well. Seriously, if this is what I get for paying less, I would rather pay triple. What kind of quack job is this??? Sara, I don't now how you became a stylist/business owner, but this has been my worst experience at a salon in my life. I waited more than an hour to get started. This whole fiasco was 4.5 hours and a total waste of my time. You did an awful job and I will be telling everyone I know about this experience. My request was simple and straight forward and you still managed to screw it up. you should not be a stylist. It's time to retire. Upside: you make excellent green tea, the price is cheap. Downside: I look like a bird, my roots still need to be done, my hair cut was straight, now uneven, and I am traumatized for life. I will continue to fly to LA to get my hair done. read more

I don't come here for hair services b/c I have a fabulous stylist in Berkeley (at Moonshadow Salon) that I've been using for 11+ years. However, I go to Creative Concepts for my pink & white fills. The staff is super friendly and make you feel right at home. They also offer wine & champagne to every patron. Who wouldn't want that?! I came in on Saturday morning and they had a box of fresh donuts out - tempting but I stayed away. ;) I recommend Jennifer - she's very sweet, talkative, funny, and does an outstanding job! Other services offered: waxing, eyelash extensions, massage, and make-up. Don't be turned away by the 'hole in the wall' feel of this location b/c once you enter you'll forget all about it. I went to this salon after 1 year of not cutting my hair because of my past trauma with haircuts. But I realized it was time for a trim! Being a woman with slow-growing curly hair, I am sensitive to how long my hair is, and I specifically told the hairdresser, Sara, only to cut 1/2 inch. She kept suggesting to cut more (all hairdressers usually do this) but I resisted and ensured her that I only wanted 1/2 inch cut off. But then she goes and cuts an 1 1/2 inches off. Well....... Ladies, you can see why I'd be unhappy about this. So not only is my hair much shorter than I'd like it,* I've lost my trust again in hairstylists. Here goes another 2 years without cutting my hair again (cause that's probably how long it'll take my hair to grow back). Anyway, if you don't have the trauma that I have, then this is a nice place to get anything done. *Curly hair is different than short hair in the fact that it shrinks when it's curly. So cutting my straight hair 2 inches is like cutting my curly hair 3 1/2 inches. read more

Jennifer gives you the most bang for your buck. She will not rip you off. Because I have long, Indian hair, my service is usually more expensive, but worth it! She also specializes in other services, such as cut, lash extensions, and waxing, to name a few. Promise you will leave a happy gal. Without realizing it, my stylist Sara is the same person who did my hair YEARS ago when I was still in high school! I knew it'd be a hit because I remembered loving my hair after seeing her. And so it remains. My hair is very different than it was back then but she still does a wonderful job. This is only for Brazilian waxing. it was a saturday and I just needed to get my waxing done, so i called this place and they were able to accommodate me in half an hour, that was really nice. The room was in the back of the salon, pretty standard with candles and music. The woman, can't remember her name now, was nice too, she can barely speak English, but she tries to explain what's going on anyway, she is friendly, and gave me a discount when I mentioned that I was a student. They uses two kinds of wax, which IMO is better than just one kind, because you know... The thing that really upsets me though, is that she double dips the sticks into the wax, also for the other hard wax, it was in a plastic thing and looks like she has been using that applicator for many times... yuks... oh well, i couldn't have walked out.... It was one of the less painful experience, and the results lasts the longest (I have tried at least 5 different places), but sorry, I am concerned with the hygiene here.... read more

WAXING: This salon is great. I get all my services done here. The aesthetician Kathy is awesome. Her prices are very reasonable and she takes great care of your skin. I get my waxing done here (eyebrows, lip, basically whole face, LOL) and she is perfect every time. I hear her facials are great but I haven't had the time to get one yet. She is always in a great mood and offers great customer service. I highly recommend Kathy for all your waxing needs. HAIR: Jennifer is the person to go to espcially if you think you have an untameable mane. She always offers suggestions and hears what you want and the end result is AMAZING!!! I have recieved cuts, highlights, and touch ups from this always friendly gal. She is always in a great mood which makes you feel comfortable as soon as you step in the salon. I just have a fabulous haircut by Jennifer, and in my book, she is one of the finest. Just picture yourself walking into a salon stressed out from work, half asleep and looked like a caveman, and walking out looking like you are ready to pose for photo shoots for GQ magazine. It's not like I look as good as the guys on GQ, maybe if I were ten years younger, but that is how I feel each time Jennifer is done cutting my hair and I am comparing her to the hair stylists that I have visited from various major metropolitan cities in different part of the world. Jennifer greeted me warmly the moment I walked in, served me a warm cup of coffee (which I didn't think I need until I had it), washed my hair, and started chatting me up while she was mentally taking notes from the conversation about my lifestyles, likes and dislikes on things with the purpose of creating a style that would suit me best.
