He is all of those things - I usually get a mid skin fade with a 3/4 inch trim off the top. The fade is always consistent, and the top is even and grows out nicely. Im in the middle of an experimental phase with my hair but he's able to recreate the type of cut im looking to try. Solid on the bald fades. Preetty nice with the sheers too! After having a full old-school barber experience down in Pismo Beach from an old high school friend, I was set on finding myself one of my own up here in Fremont. YEARS went by and nothing, unless you call someone that calls themself a barber but doesn't know what a fade is, or someone who keeps the door locked and answers it in his PJ's. No thank you! Then I fell upon Kevin... and after my three teenage sons got hooked on him because he isn't afraid to experiment with their crazy cuts found on international soccer players, we found our barber! He's now opened his own place, North37. Once you walk in, you'll see his private suite to the right close to the front. When you enter his suite, you see he's going with a more traditional yet modern look that brings you into the spirit of the experience you're about to have. You can keep the door open to make it inviting for others to say hello when walking by and to get the natural light in, or close the door for more privacy if you just want to escape from the world. Btw, if you have a preference on anything, just let him know because he truly wants you to enjoy the experience that's all about you. This is a huge difference to any other hairstylist or barber, and it's what really makes him even that much more special. After your cut, you get the hot towel treatment, oh it's so relaxing... and if you have the desire to take it to the next level, add the straight razor shave! Unfortunately, my skin is getting too sensitive the older I get so I'm keeping the rugged look these days, so I miss out on that icing on the cake. He tells me that he expects to add the barber massage, and I really hope he can do drinks at some point to make it 100% old school :) Just do yourself the favor of visiting North37 and meet Kevin. The new spot is located in Salons by JC at Pacific Commons. Hella convenient area. Kevin takes service to the next level with the hot towels/cold towels, straight razor shaves and all that. He can do anything from the conservative styles, to the current flavor of the month. As a patron for many years, I will say that Kevin is very consistent. Kevin is amazing!!! Today was my first time going to him and I have no regrets! I live in San Jose and I don't mind driving out to Fremont for him. First of all, the shop is a one room private experience which is unique. For those who hate those crowded ass barber shops this is the place for you! Kevin himself is a gem. Superb experience. Kevin is a well seasoned veteran of the craft no matter your hair type. The experience starts with his private suite inside a larger salon condominium. Inside you feel like you're about to be prepped for your Complex appearance--urban, professional-yet laid back. It feels no less than having your own private barber. He takes his time and you can easily sense the perfectionist in his work. My hair had always been taken care of by a family member professional in the past, so it was definitely a relief finding a stylist outside that would have the same attention to detail, not to mention a well understanding of Asian hair. Getting a haircut with Kev is one of the easiest thing you can do. I hate having to go to a barber shop and wonder WHEN I can get a cut from the barber I WANT all while not having to wait hours for my turn. Kev even simplified the appointment process. Go to his site (www.north37.co) and book when and what you want. Easy. Other shops you gotta call in and or text. If they're too busy they may not pick up. If they're with a client they can't text you back right away. Online, you see when he's available and bam, just like that you're booked. Kev is open to cutting your hair any way you like, even though these days everyone gets that same cut anyways. He's easy to talk to and chill about most stuff. He does his craft well and there's no if ands or buts. He's got some good whiskey on deck or if you're not about that, then he's got water for you (not necessary but always welcomed). Our boys have been going to Kevin for about six months now (one tween and one five year old) and we can't be any happier with his work and service! As our eldest son was getting closer and closer to that tween age, he didn't want dad cutting his hair anymore and we needed to find the right person. All the people that we tried in Milpitas or Fremont ended up just being trial and error. Not until one of our friends posted a picture of their son's cut and had to ask where they went. And once we got our youngest son in Kevin's chair and was able to get him to interact, not shy away AND smile... We knew we found our barber! If anyone knows our "Buddy," it's not easy to win him over. Look, I'll be honest. I used to get my haircut for years at a $11 shop that used to do quick fades with an "in and out" mentality. I always thought I was getting a great cut for a good deal. Then one day (about 5 years ago) I met this dude name Kevin (through mutual friends) who said he was a barber. I thought, OK this guy is cool, why not give it a shot. Of course, I made my son go first (just in case it was terrible...lol) and then see what the results were. Let me tell you, after that first cut for my son and I, we never looked back. I never knew what a great haircut/fade was until I met Kev. I never understood what a good barber experience was. After all those years at the $11shop, great clips, sport clips, and the random places in between, my hair found inner peace when I met Kevin. Ok, so that's the cut. What about the dude? Man, Kev is the best. Always chill, down to earth and great to talk with. Great experience. Appointment was right on time and I didn't have to wait. The place is very clean and the privacy is nice too. There's a TV to pass the time or you can just chat with Kevin.
