Paid $120 to have a prom dress hemmed, taken in and 2 small repairs. It was hemmed too short, not taken in at all, and one of the repairs was left completely undone and the second repair failed the day of the event. Buyer Beware I brought two dresses to Michelina for minor alterations - dresses that one of my daughters and I will be wearing to the wedding of another one of my daughters. Picked them up this afternoon. $55 for alterations on my daughter's bridesmaid gown, and $300 for mine. I was shocked. I paid less than $300 for the dress. She had to remove the lace hem, (removable lace, by the way) cut the lace overlay and replace the length of lace at the bottom. I asked why it was so expensive. She said, "Time." How much time could she have spent removing a length of REMOVEABLE lace and restitching it to the hem? I wrote the check. What could I do. She made bank on this little job. I'm angry and disheartened by this experience. read more

Michelina herself is a very charming lady and does wonderful work. That said, make sure you get a very firm quote before taking anything here to be altered. I took my wedding dress here to be hemmed. I had all the other alterations done through David's Bridal but they wouldn't cut off the train for me so I looked around for someone who would. I knew a couple seamstresses but they were too busy to do the hemming with wedding season so I took it to Michelina because of the great reviews here on Yelp. The first day in the shop Michelina pinned the hem at the desired length and said it would be ready in a month and that the cost would be between 120 or 150. I thought that was pretty good since there are three layers to the dress. The seamstresses had quoted me 80, but again, they weren't available, so I was willing to pay a bit more to get it done. The day I came to pick it up she says I owe $300.00. No joke. I don't get it. Maybe that's how much hemming sometimes costs - but there was no lace or anything complex that needed to be cut. Hemming cost about the same as the dress itself. Her work looks great, and she's very polite, but I wish she hadn't raised the price on me. It makes me sad. read more

I have been to more alterations "specialists" than the number of lies told in the current presidential debates. Seriously. And I have never, ever, EVER, had any luck. I've paid an arm and a leg for places to fake having done anything at all, or just done a terrible job. After endless bad recommendations from these so called friends of mine, hehe just kidding, I decided to rely on the always reliable Yelp! to steer me in the right direction. I saw Creations by Michelina was not only a convenient location for me, but she had a 5-star rating so I decided to give it a go. This is one of my most deserving 5-star reviews I've written. A good seamstress is hard to find. She did an EXCELLENT job on altering a dress and fixing a sweater of mine. And to top it off, she is the nicest lady. Bridal Alternations completed summer 2020. Incredibly talented seamstress. MIchelina is a trained dress designer and worked under the best wedding dress designers in the area. She knows exactly what she is doing and will take the time to work with you to make your wedding dress perfect! I experienced a very rushed experience from other wedding dress alternation shops in the area. The three popular ones I called that Vows recommends would not even see me for a consultation appointment. If I booked with them I had a 15 minute appointment and they told me they would cut the dress right away and get started. Well, this is not Michelina's way. Michelina will meet with you and take the time to make sure everything is perfect. She is known to fix dresses that other seamstresses will not work on, or fix the errors of others. My wedding dress was full lace and she had to carefully cut and reapply appliques. I am petite and my dress was actually made for someone who is tall so she had me in for multiple fittings until she got everything to meet her own high standards. Fantastic work and great customer service!!! I can't thank Michelina enough for working on my dress during COVID and making sure it was perfectly ready for my June wedding! The only reason why Michelina is less known is because she doesn't have a large presence online or on social media. Give her a try! You will be glad you did! read more

If your Nonna isn't around to alter your wedding gown herself, just bring it to Michelina. Stepping into her little shop on Adams St., you may be a little taken back. Her granddaughters often hang out there, and there are cartoons playing on the little TV in the corner. But then, Michelina works her magic. After several fittings for my wedding gown, it came out perfect. But mine was probably the easiest of the 3 dresses we brought to her: My mom had her gown altered by Michelina as well. Everything was going perfect.. until 2 days before the wedding. My mom went to pick up her gown, and noticed stains all over the gown that hadn't been there before. Showing Michelina, she immediately went into action. She was panicking, not knowing how it happened! My mom, who was panicking herself, was also trying to calm her down because she was visibly upset! Michelina said no matter what, even if she has to work day and night, she will save this gown. Lo and behold, we pick up the gown the morning before the wedding and it is good as new. Still don't know what happened, but know for sure Michelina did everything in her power to save that dress - and she did! The third dress we brought to her was my Matron of Honnor's dress. She was a couple months pregnant at the time, but no one but me knew yet. Her dress, that had fit perfectly before, was starting to get a little tight. I told her, bring it with us to see Michelina, she'll help you. Taking a dress in for a seamstress is cake, but taking it out is a challenge. We were concerned that nothing could be done! My mom, MOH and I are standing in the little shop while Michelina examines the dress on her ironing board... after what seemed like forever but was probably just a minute... she looks up and just says "I can do". Miracle worker, Michelina is. Pleasure to work with and does great work. I would bring any of my clothes to her in the future for alterations. For the great company, and outstanding work. read more

My wedding dress was way too big around the bust, but the first tailor I saw didn't think it needed adjusting (I'm a small B cup and this was for a D, at least -- let's both keep dreaming, dude). Soooo, I drove out to Michelina's from on the rec of a coworker. She's really sweet and very talented, but I had a pretty stressful experience there as a result of not knowing that she didn't take credit cards (my fault, I should have asked; I did just add it to the page, though!) and the alterations being considerably more expensive than I expected. Also, when I got the dress home, I saw that there was a huge rip near the zipper and the sash was falling off... so I called Michelina back even though she was closed (1pm on a Saturday). I frantically explained that my wedding was in 7 days and she told me to come in right away. She fixed the rip and put the sash back on and was a lovely and soothing presence to a very frazzled almost-bride. But yeah, in case you missed it too, credit cards are NOT accepted. And admittedly, I'm not very experienced with tailors... but I was surprised by the price. She did do a really amazing job, though, and I would absolutely recommend Michelina to anyone who wants their wedding dress to fit like a glove. read more

I got a two piece outfit (top and pants) and a maxi dress altered here. She was so sweet on the phone and in person. I was in and out of there quickly and she said she would even try to get everything done before the weekend. The tops straps needed to be adjusted and are now perfect. The pants needed to be hemmed and they're perfect. The dress is the only thing I'm a bit disappointed about. (EDIT:) I initially thought it was hemmed way shorter than I wanted, but I figured I may have tied the dress looser at the fitting and tighter after getting it back and it makes a HUGE difference. I got new shoes that look better with it anyway, but I don't think she hemmed it way shorter. However, the hem still doesn't look 100% even all the way around but when it's brushing the ground you can barely tell. Honestly, it's a satin type fabric (it's a reused sari made maxi dress) so I feel like it's difficult to work with. She's incredibly sweet, and VERY reasonable. Everything was done for $85 and frankly I've had people try to charge $70 just for the dress . I definitely plan on going back here to give it another shot. Overall, pretty pleased! read more

Michelina is a magician. Did I mention she used to run the alterations department for a major bridal designer house before opening up her own shop?? She is a wonderful Italian woman and is even more charming with her accent. I bought my wedding gown to Michelina after purchasing at a Brides Against Breast Cancer charity event in Brookline, MA and desperately needed the top portion to be altered as it was WAY too big... I'm a 34B and this top was made for like a D or something. Anyway, she altered my trumpet/mermaid fit gown to fit my body like a GLOVE. Working slowly and efficiently to get it just right, she impressed me every time never taking in too much as my dress fabric was very delicate. Ladies - she knows her stuff. TRUST Her. and with my alterations experience, I've referred my sister, who recently lost some weight and needed all her summer dresses taken in, Mich did it in a snap. She also altered my friends husband's pants in time for our wedding. I am going back to her to get my jeans altered, she does everything and is VERY reasonably priced, seriously. read more

If wish I could give her a 10. I cannot say enough about her. Michelina is charming, talented, professional, a perfectionist, a designer and an overall caring individual about her clients comments and suggestions. She will give you her honest opinion and listen attentively to your ideas. My daughters and I went to see her for my daughter's lace wedding gown as well as my dress and maid of honor. My daughter's wedding gown was an incredible challenge, due to it being all lace, but Michelina took it in stride and actually remade it to my daughter's specifications. She was so patient and kind and listened to my daughter's ideas and implemented them perfectly including the veil. I had a chiffon dress and it was hemmed and pressed in no time and she took in and hemmed my other daughter's dress to perfection. One of the dresses was my wedding dress that I bought online and I wanted to change a lot. She was so nice and listened to exactly what we all wanted. I found Creations by Michelina when a potential roommate came to look at my old apartment and mentioned her store. I needed to get several work clothes altered since I ice skate on a regular basis now (and have the thighs to prove it). Michelina was extremely helpful, but explained she wasn't sure she could let out some of the items I brought in enough to make them work. She offered to work on one of them as a 'trial run' and have me come in a few days later to check if the alterations would work. I took a few pairs of pants and some skirts in to Michelina based on rave reviews and she RUINED them. They were all 1 or 2 sizes too big (I had been losing baby weight) so required some taking in. On the skirts she took them in on the sides so that the back vent gapes open. On another skirt she took in the middle back seam and re-did the vent, but then the hem fell down the first day I wore it. AND the back was longer than the front. The pants were taken in so crudely that the back pockets were only a couple of inches apart. I am out $100s of dollars (on the clothes and on the "tailoring") and will never go back to her again. I'm so traumatized I may never go back to ANY tailor at this point. Definite anti-recommend. read more

I went to Michelina on a friend's recommendation and I couldn't be happier! She altered a bridesmaid dress that I'd ordered online but was a little too big up top. The rouching on it was very thick but she did a great job! She forgot to call me to tell me it was done and had a little trouble finding it when I got there, but she is so adorable that I didn't even mind. Michelina did an amazing job on my wedding dress. She is not only sweet and accomodating but also does a great job with the tailoring. She was reasonbly priced as well. My dress had a keyhole back so I needed her to build in cups to the dress. It ended up looking amazing and I felt really comfortable in the dress all day long. It fit perfectly and the bustle she did looked wonderful (which came in handy because it had rained the morning of the wedding so the dress had to be bustled a lot). I brought in my favorite dress to Michelina, which is a crocheted, Ted Baker cocktail dress and asked her if she could fix a part of it in which the thread had frayed and pulled somewhat badly. I was extremely nervous about the job, because the crochet work is quite delicate, and I adore this dress. Michelina assured me that there was nothing to worry about and even said she could have it ready in two days (I'm about to move out of state and had a time crunch). I picked up the dress today, and it looks great! You would never know it had ever been repaired unless you looked very closely, and she was able to match the thread color extremely well. It was a little bit pricey at $20, and there was one spot where I needed to snip a thread, but overall, I was extremely pleased and have already recommended her to someone else who lives in the area. read more
