They truly make every visit such a fun and relaxing experience. A special thank you to MJ for going above and beyond. She is one of the sweetest people I've met and generously offered to do a photoshoot for me and my two friends. She even surprised us by making our pottery on the house! It was such a thoughtful gesture that made the entire experience even more memorable Thank you, MJ, for creating such a welcoming space where I've been able to make my Miffy bowl series, with many more pieces to come. As a frequent customer, I'll definitely be back!!

Pottery Painting at The Hot Spot in Liberty Station…read more We took our team of 15 to do pottery painting and it pains me to say that for groups, it was a bit of a let down. I've been here before with a friend and I'd say this location/company does better with smaller groups and not larger groups. I pre-booked our reservation and when we arrived, they had our large table with the paper on it with most things needed except paper towels. The seats felt really close together even with fitting all 15 of us so some had to sit on other tables since it's pretty crammed. For groups over 6 (I believe it was), they charge a 15% service charge and I completely understand and am happy to pay it if a decent experience is provided but it was basically self-service so I'm wondering what should have been included. The employee introduced herself who was "assigned to us" and handed out the cards to put paint on and added our pottery selections to her notepad. That was the extent of her help. I ended up going around to our table asking if anyone needed paper towels (since they weren't provided) or more paint. If our table was a small group, I could see that not being necessary but we were a large group who was paying a premium. The employee didn't come back to check on us as it got close to finishing. I went up to get ready to check out and find out where everyone needs to bring over their pottery and the employee remembered that people should write their initials with a special pencil. It was a bit disorganized and I had higher expectations with what we were paying. Is the service fee just for the extra paper on the tables because the other groups/individuals who didn't "get someone assigned to them" got the same level of service our group did. Our reservation was in the early afternoon and with this July heat, it did get hot. The shop had doors and windows open but 1 small fan in the corner of the room that didn't make much of an impact. I'd suggest more fans because this place makes great margins for what they offer. Overall, I wouldn't suggest this place for a group activity over 6 people. The service isn't worth it for the service fee. You're better off to have the group go in as individuals unfortunately.

The teacher/host was friendly, had good painting tips and guidance, and was very enthusiastic with his work. And dang it, painting is hard! This time it was Starry Night in San Diego. But I went off on a tangent and added a AT-AT, Death Star, Klingon Bird of Prey, a USS Enterprise, Star Destroyer, a Borg Cube, and an Ion Cannon, but no one seems to see that, doh! Unlike the 1st Grade, the teacher did not scold me or give me a "F" for not following instructions. IRONY: We paid $30, but it does not include wine, you still have to buy wine(or whatever) at the venue. Luckily it was still Happy Hour, so I got a beer for only $4. I might have subtracted a star it if it was more expensive, but since they call themselves "Wine and Paint" they should at least include a crappy plastic cup of Charles Shaw or Tisdale. Right? I still had a great time, so I'm going to let that slide... Note: I'm not a single guy, but if you are, this good place to meet girls...the class comprised of about 25 girls, me, and a very bored looking guy dragged here by girlfriend. Just place yourself in strategic spot...you'll have just over 3 hours to turn your small talk into a Facebook Friend Request, or more.

On display in the window was shelves full of an interesting variety of ceramics. We decided to check it out. We've walked by many times on our way to and from La Doña and never noticed Claytime Ceramics and Gifts. Upon walking in we were cheerfully greeted by Caroline the owner. She explained that her shop is a DIY ceramics shop. You choose a piece and paint it. She even offers classes for making pottery on a pottery wheel. One wall was lined with wheels. There are tables set up for people to create their pieces. When we were there a small family (mom, dad, two small kids) was at a table painting away. Caroline is super nice. She was so friendly and excited to share. Her passion for her art and sharing her knowledge were palpable. This really looked like a great couples, family or group activity. The next time you're strolling along Bacon Street in OB, stop in and say hi to Caroline at Claytime Ceramics!

She then offered a 20% refund and asked me to change my review, which I again declined. She claimed that despite paying for full event planning services, the event was subpar because I hadn't been involved in planning it. They didn't call. They didn't ask me to go their warehouse. They didn't do anything until the week of the event, when they tried to fit me into their random available times to walk them through my space via FaceTime. To clarify, I paid $2,000 for someone to plan and orchestrate an event. What I received was maybe a $200-$300 setup, and it's apparently my fault for not planning the event I paid someone to plan. She argued that I should have requested changes during the setup. However, I wasn't home at the time. The whole point of hiring this service was to arrive at a fully set-up event with my guests. When I arrived, they were still setting up as my guests were arriving (even though they were supposed to have been gone by then). So, there wasn't time to make changes, and it would have been an awkward conversation anyway. Instead of blaming me, they should have done the job they were paid to do or not sold the package in the first place. To add insult to injury, she compared this situation to eating a pizza and then requesting a refund. This was over $2k. It's not even close to ordering a pizza and asking for a refund. She ripped me off. I stand by my request for a full refund. She should have offered that refund on her own. This event was pitiful. I will never use their services again or recommend them to anyone.
