We just wanted a check up and the free cleaning/X-rays that our insurance covered. They send forms by email which is convenient and they were very thorough in the questions. We arrived for each of our appts on the same day and both were told we needed to have "deep cleaning" and they couldn't do it that day. And insurance doesn't cover it. Now why, after telling them on the phone it had been YEARS since we had been to the dentist, would they make us come in just to have to schedule us on another day. They weren't able to do anything other than X-rays. So we both took a day off work for nothing. They also quoted me $4500 for Invisalign and kinda pushed it hard but I refused and declined that service. Deep cleaning requires two appts. So we scheduled them for the following two weeks. Two more missed days of work for each of us. The dental hygienist (Shannon?) was amazing and friendly, told me she didn't understand why I needed to come for two appts because mine wasn't that bad. She did the first half of my cleaning. She saw my husband and then the male dentist did his cavity drilling - during which time he cut my husbands tongue several times with the drill and blamed it on him having too strong a tongue? He ended up prescribing a mouthwash and ibuprofen only after I texted the office to ask what had happened. When I came back the next week, it was the same male dentist who my husband had seen who did my cleaning. They pushed for me to do novocaine shots over and over even though I didn't need them the first time and it hadn't hurt at all then. The dentist seemed much rougher with this half of my cleaning, then lasered my gums which wasn't done before. Then, they realized I didn't have the lasers done on the first visit so they had to come back and do it again. They then told me I needed $400 more of work to replace a crack in my tooth that they suddenly noticed during the cleaning? But not on the X-rays the first visit? The different dentist that first day had told me I had no cavities or teeth issues. Seemed off. It took my husband FOUR further visits to get his two crowns put on. One day their equipment wasn't working so they cancelled same day. One day the crowns came in and they didn't fit so they redid X-rays. One day(after I spoke to the office two days prior and asked them to confirm his crowns had been delivered, which they confirmed) he showed up to his 8am appt for them to tell him the crowns never came in their shipment and they would "hopefully" come in by the afternoon so maybe they could see him then? Why would they tell me the crowns were in the office when they weren't? This has been a nightmare of an experience. I also received two phone calls in the weeks after my cleaning appts offering to knock off a couple hundred if I did the $4500 Invisalign they recommended. It was such pushy sales it really turned me off. The gal at the front desk Hayley is super friendly and likeable, but this felt like high-pressure sales. It seemed like at every appt they wanted to tack on a new expensive problem that didn't exist before. I wanted to love this office, but I would never recommend them.

BROKE PATIENT CONFIDENTIALITY-…read more First, dentist refused to fixed 2 chipped teeth because I had other issues he wanted me to take care of first. I explained I would have the other issues done promptly after fixing the chipped teeth. He sent a letter to me in the mail 2 days later, stating that his business philosophy doesn't allow him to treat someone who doesnt take their health seriously and to please seek another dentist. California Dental Association House of Deligates CODE OF ETHICS states; "Autonomy: Patients have the right to determine what should be done with their own bodies. Because patients are moral entities, they are capable of autonomous decision-making." http://www.cda.org/about-cda/cda-code-of-ethics Second, he ALSO broke the oath of protecting patient confidentiality by divulging my personal information to Dawn P. (a stranger to me, who coincidentally & so calculatingly tagged onto this Yelp post within days of mine), her Yelp post comment about me and she obviously knew more personal information about my visit than what I had revealed on my post. This is EXACTLY why he does NOT exhibit the core values of an ethical dental professional. This unprofessionalism was just shown here on Yelp before your eyes. You are the witness. Even if he didn't put her up to this post, he undoubtedly disclosed information about my visit by the additional information she couldn't have possibly known, without him scheming behind it. This is means for suing.

My hometown dentist had set the bar high, but Ethos has truly exceeded all of my expectations and set a new standard of excellence. When I first started my search, I visited another dentist who quoted me nearly $8,000 for a root canal--even after insurance (Delta Dental). I was in pain, overwhelmed, and desperate for the right care. From the moment I called Ethos, I knew I was in good hands. The receptionists are some of the kindest, most attentive people I've ever met--they listen with care, are incredibly organized, and made sure I was seen right away. At my first appointment, Paige (the hygienist) was wonderful--gentle, thorough, and genuinely kind. The office itself is spotless, modern, and so comfortable. Each room has a TV with headphones, clean cozy blankets, and little touches that make you feel at ease. Dr. Vargas has been an absolute light throughout my entire experience. He is not only highly intelligent and skilled, but also approachable and compassionate. He explained every step of my care plan clearly, always put my best interest first, and made sure I felt heard and comfortable. I needed a couple of root canals (my first ever), and while I was nervous, the process was painless, quick, and seamless. Their referral for an endodontist was also excellent. Back at Ethos, Carlos did an amazing job crafting my temporary crown--it was carefully sculpted, perfectly color-matched, and surprisingly comfortable. My permanent crown was also a perfect fit, and when I needed a minor adjustment afterward, Dr. Vargas immediately got me in and personally followed up to make sure everything felt right. The fact that he even called me after appointments to check in says everything about the level of care here. More recently, I had another cleaning and started their whitening program. The team took into account my teeth sensitivity and took the time to explain the process thoroughly and made sure my whitening trays were precise and comfortable. At that visit I also saw Dr. Sewell, who was so fun, energetic, and personable--he has a fantastic sense of humor and made the whole experience enjoyable. From start to finish, Ethos has gone above and beyond in every aspect of care. Whether you see Dr. Vargas or Dr. Sewell, you will be treated with kindness, expertise, and genuine care. I can't recommend Ethos Advanced Dental Care enough--it's truly the best dental experience I've ever had.

That said, I was happy this dentist was closer to the road that takes us back into town and within our network. Well she turned out to be as excellent as all past reviews stated and after having dodged not going every year like I should have, she did a thorough look at what we were dealing with and stated I was going to need a lot of work for the short term as I needed to be free of any infections for a planned surgery I'm having soon. She actually needed to correct a lot of the prior work my former dentist had done that was done incorrectly (it really saddens me to say this as it was a long time dentist I really entrusted mines & my family care in, but it's truth, plus I'm being nice & won't slam former dentist, but other words would indicate their work was careless or even poorly done). Whew! That's a lot of detail to bring out. Anyhow, in a matter of two months it was all done, every appointment they would call me in promptly and though there were a few times I was anticipated in being there awhile, it felt as if it went fast and Dr Lau explained everything thoroughly, was always professional, had her billing assistant work with me on spreading the payments (I must say Delta insurance has gone downhill in past 25 years & doesn't cover major work done like they used to) and her staff has always been polite and always helpful. Location is great, it's in a medium sized medical building with plenty of parking in a nice area not far from the wineries I'll be going to her from now on.
