The chopped brisket is a mash and has no flavor. I felt like I had lunch in a nursing home. They also refuse to give you a water cup or let you bring a reusable cup, and force you to buy water bottles that are horrible for the environment, and they only care about making a buck! Wow I can't begin to tell you how bad this place was. The sliced beef they call brisket was tough and dry. The turkey tasted like it had an inch of pepper on the outside and no smoke flavor. The beans were too salty to even eat. And the other sides just tasted like they came from the grocery store. Do you know BBQ? Do you like BBQ? Then you are already two steps ahead of Crazy Larry and his efforts. Four of us, two eating "brisket" sandwiches and chips, and the other two adding on the "Macaroni and Cheese Soup." $1.50 extra for a thimble of soggy noodles bathed in weak cheese colored water. Hope that's not mean, but it was really too watery to be called soup. Soup at least has texture and flavor. But I digress. Back to the mystery meat called "brisket." Was it goat? Raccoon? The menu didn't say what kind of critter we were dealing with, but the taste didn't scream 'beef.' Folks gotta be crazy to cook that and call it bar-b-que, crazier still to pay too much to eat it on a sandwich. And the sauce? It's not optional - we asked for it to be left off and they wouldn't. They know they need something to coat your stomach. The best thing about Crazy Larry's is the water policy. $.50 for bottled water and free refills. I can't do it. I really can't. Literally everything tastes watered down. Macaroni and cheese shouldn't ever be able to be confused in appearance with a bowl of queso, and in flavor, be able to be confused with yellow squash baby food...or perhaps just... yellow water with macaroni floating in it of... Odd consistency. BBQ sauce... Where do I begin... If you like water with a hint of black pepper, this is DEFINITELY for you. Also, I've never literally developed a phobia of Mac'n'Cheese...until now. It's like that nightmare where you think you recognize an old friend, but you watch (or taste) in horror, as they morph into an unrecognizable monster before your eyes. Coconut tea tastes like water. Sweet tea tastes like dirt, according to a coworker. Due to the tea, was even afraid to try the soft drinks. Speaking of soft drinks, a large cardboard sign, on NO uncertain terms, on front of the counter as one walks in, proclaims "Due to EXTREME THEFT of soft drinks, NO cups of ice or water will be provided. Bottles of water 50¢" ...With this type of dramatic emphasis, I'm expecting to soon see an episode of COPS where thirsty customers stole the soft drink machine at gun point on a hot July day. Didn't take leftover macaroni home, was afraid it would disturb my sleep by even being in the same house at night. Chopped "beef" wasn't right...but apparently the restaurant is environmentally conscious by finding a use for recycled and shredded cardboard. (The black pepper almost had me fooled.) Don't get me wrong I love the frito pie here. I wish I could love the other items. Recently tried their pulled pork, sliced beef, hot links, Mac and cheese. I was not impressed. I really did like their potato salad as it was flavorful and mustardy the way I like it. I think I'll come to crazy Larry just for the frito pie. Which is a giant portion for a great price. Driving thru Texas I wanted some good Texas BBQ. I read reviews and decided on Crazy Larry's. The people were right. The ribs were amazing and the turkey was very unique and excellent as well. And don't forget the BBQ Brisket Fritto Pie. I was thoroughly impressed with this little dish. Yes I left stuffed. As for the staff, Brandon and Brad who served me were incredible. With being more time crunched and having to make a quick decision for dinner, it was recommended to try this place out, was told that their "famous frito pie" was extra ordinary and delicious but at first I wasn't completely sold on it, I was more focused on trying the different meats they had to offer, mainly because that's what I enjoy doing when I go to different BBQ joints, after standing in line a little longer and glancing more and more at the menu I started to change my mind and to try the frito pie, ultimately I did and boy was I glad I did, it was definitely the best frito pie I've had that I can remember, don't forget to add chili to it as well, you will not be disappointed! Also had some of their smoked turkey and beans as well and they have plenty of great flavor! On a road trip from LA to New Orleans, we decided to drive through random parts of TX. Eating is always a concern for us because of my wife's celiac disease and we often find ourselves explaining to someone who makes promises that the meal will be gluten free, and then mysteriously, my wife gets horribly ill and experiences celiac issues. Not the case at Crazy Larry's! We decided that BBQ would be the most likely safe food in a part of TX where the choices of what was safe seemed limited. What a great choice it was! Prior to arriving, I called to get directions because my GPS wasn't finding it. The nicest sounding man was very helpful and said "call me back if you need help." When we arrived, Larry was behind the register and acted like his long lost brother and sister had just arrived. We asked him if he knew what celiac was and surprisingly, he did. In fact, to make us feel extra safe, he called out his wife to be doubly sure on a few items. My wife felt very comfortable at this point. She felt even more comfortable when Larry served up a sample of his delicious brisket. Before we were served, he introduced us to his whole family -- easily the nicest person we've met in TX -- and they put together a fantastic assortment for us. We left very satisfied with the meal and just as pleased to have met such nice people. My wife has never had "real Texas BBQ," whereas I've had the pleasure of eating some of the best over the years. So when we found ourselves passing through Amarillo on I-40 heading back to California, we decided to look for something in Amarillo. Reading the reviews here on Yelp!, we quickly realized that we weren't going to find the "best-of-the-best" here, but the reviews for Crazy Larry's looked to be better than average. Hands-down, this was the worst Texas BBQ I've ever tasted - Not even in the same league as the better places elsewhere in the state. In fact, I wouldn't even call it BBQ... The meats were not smoked at all. What they passed-off as BBQ brisket looked and tasted like a boiled slab of corned beef, instead. I'm not saying it lacked "enough" smoke flavor. I'm saying it lacked ANY smoke flavor, whatsoever. Same with the pulled pork, and turkey!? They only offered a variety of unsmoked (boiled/roasted) meats, and a pretty lame BBQ sauce. We're leaving town wondering if it's true... That there really isn't any good BBQ in Amarillo, but certain it's not this place. read more

One of my favorite bbq spots in Amarillo. Its been a hangout spot pretty much since high school and is usually always steadily busy. Larry is a cool guy, always shoots the breeze with you and makes you feel welcome. The food is not your typical bbq but thats what I like about it. If you only like one style of bbq, whats the point in trying new places? The sandwiches are served on big fluffy rolls. The sauce is very runny but is served hot and has a mild addictive sweetness to it and soaks wonderfully into the bread. I love drowning my sandwiches in the stuff. The moose pie is great too. Have to say, I had stomach issues in the middle of the night from all that fat. Also, a bit too salty. Pulled pork was better than the ribs (but they charge you .40 cents extra for a roll to eat it on.) All in all okay, but not great. Price was reasonable though. read more

BEST FRITO PIE EVER. Enough said. The chopped beef was okay. Sorta dry and flavorless without any bbq sauce. The chili was very flavorful and delicious! Peach cobbler had too much breading and not enough peach. It wasn't that good, but if you get it with the ice cream, it tastes a lot better! If you go, you have to get the frito pie! It is absolutely delicious! People working there were really witty and friendly. Good customer service.
