The shrimp was perfectly cooked, the slaw and sauce were fresh and tangy, and the bread was perfectly crispy and soft at the same time. The sweet tea was amazingly refreshing and light, with just the perfect amount of sweetness. The service was great and the person at the counter was incredibly friendly. I also got a little corn bread to take back to my hotel and it was such a treat to eat after a late night out with my colleagues. If I ever come back to Philly, I am 100% coming back here.

Let's get to the food. Blackened catfish platter ($17 with tax) Catfish melts in your mouth, seasoned amazing throughout the catfish, flaky, delicious and spicy. 10/10 The sauce that came with it omg it makes the catfish 10 times better giving it a more kick and flavor. Sauce 10/10 Fries- Fries well seasoned and delicious with a kick with the onion and peppers makes them even better. Wish they were a little bit crunch on them but overall amazing fries- 9/10 Cornbread- This corn bread is soft, flaky, sweet, soft on the inside and moist. The seasoning on the cornbread is good it's a different take on cornbread and I like it. 9/10 Definitely recommend for anyone wanting any fish, chicken, breakfast or more.

So the bowling balls are also smaller. There's just a glitch with the pins where once in a while they may get tangled in each other but the attendants fixes it promptly. The place has a nice size bar and restaurant along side the bowling area. You can also order/eat food and drinks while you bowl. This spot is perfect for everyone: family fun, girls hang out, date night, group activity. I definitely will recommend

There is duck bowling, which means they're small balls and pins, but they're only four lanes, so if you don't make a reservation, you won't be able to bowl. The families that were playing were enjoying themselves. I would come here to bowl and have specific, easy-to-make drinks. We grabbed seats at the bar because the restaurant seemed full, and sports were on the TVs. The bar seats were comfy, with backs on them, and there was a bar to rest your foot. It took a minute to get service, as it seems the bartender is the only one for the whole place. Maybe they need another bartender when the bowling alley and restaurant are both complete. I had an espresso martini, which was too sweet for me. My husband had a mule and thought it was good. My second drink was a tall Titos vodka soda. The bartender informed us that the menu changes on Tuesday, so they have no more crab, which is what I wanted. I was going to order the crab dip and the seafood mac & cheese. We pivoted to fried green tomatoes that were a little too breaded and cooked for me, but the sauce was good. We did get the seafood mac & cheese, but it did not have much shrimp on it. The shells were overcooked and combined, so you had to separate them and cover them in sauce, or the bite didn't have enough flavor. Also, the cheese sauce was a little soupy.

From the moment I stepped onto the sidewalk at South Jazz Kitchen, I knew I was somewhere sacred…read more The greeting at the door was prompt, warm, and intentional. The kind of welcome that reminds you hospitality is still an art. The ambiance is chic, upscale, and intentional without ever feeling stiff. It is not too loud, allowing laughter and conversations to breathe naturally. They thoughtfully left space for guests without reservations, which shows they value people, not just bookings. Everyone was dressed beautifully, and the staff matched that same elevated professionalism. Clean. Polished. Intentional. Our server, Ashley, was exceptional. Knowledgeable. Present. Confident. She didn't just take orders. She guided an experience. The space is wheelchair accessible, and the outdoor courtyard is stunning. Photo worthy. Elegant. It instantly transported me to New Orleans. The aesthetic, the warmth, the spirit. It felt like Mama nem's table on a Sunday after church. Cousins laughing. Plates heavy. Love flowing. Culture present in every detail. Even the private event space is breathtaking. Weddings. Baby showers. Political donor events. Receptions. Community celebrations. I saw vision the moment I looked inside. And now... let's talk about the food. I had the smoked jerk turkey wings, slow cooked to perfection and served with Creole beans and rice and collard greens with smoked turkey. Let me be clear. This was not just food. This was memory. The seasoning was deep, layered, and soulful. The meat was tender, falling off the bone with ease. I fought the urge to bite the bones themselves just to stay in that moment a little longer. The mac and cheese deserves its own standing ovation. Made with a blend of four cheeses and baked into a rich, creamy cheese joy with perfection, it was rich, indulgent, and comforting in every bite. This is not a side. This is an experience. The freshly baked skillet cornbread, served with Steen's cane syrup and honey butter, was warm, soft, and balanced between sweet and savory. It was the kind of cornbread you slow down for. The kind you remember. My Nina mocktail was refreshing, sweet, and layered. Every sip revealed something new. A drink meant to be savored, not rushed. My husband ordered the buttermilk fried chicken, drizzled with hot honey and served alongside collards with smoked turkey and sweet potato gratin. I stole a wing, of course. Moist. Flavorful. Perfectly crisp. The kind of bite that makes you close your eyes and say "mmmm" without realizing it. This is not just a restaurant. It is culture. It is comfort. It is community. Meeting the general manager felt like reconnecting with family you didn't know you missed. From the first hello at the door to the final goodbye, I felt seen, welcomed, and valued. Even the bathrooms and hallways are selfie worthy. Every detail is intentional. This is where you bring your spouse. Your girls. Your sorors. Your frat brothers. Your business partners. Your family. Your whole community. We drove six hours to experience South Jazz Kitchen, and I would do it again next week without hesitation. I am sending everyone I know. And when they say "Shaleah sent me"... just know that's me, y'all. That's me. Yelp Elites, RUN. Amazing food. Amazing culture. Amazing establishment.

I've gone to the bar on multiple occasions to get just cornbread and an entree to go as well as when I have had reservations to dine in, I've seen people come in, just go to the bar and order take out. I'm really disappointed at this experience and it seems like every time I go to South, It's a different experience and a different enforcement of rules.
