July 20, 2024 - After having lunch, my friend mentioned crave doughnuts. It was only a few mins from Butchies. But when we got there it was sold out. Can you believe sold out at 2:30pm! Wow!! So we took The chance and went to the one in Whitby. They only had 3 flavours left. I ordered Mango Coconut Lime + Honey Vanilla Cruller. Definitely now is on my list of fave donut spot. They have quite a few different and cool flavours. But too bad they're so far from me. Well i mean it might be good for my waistline haha. We got 6 donuts (that box was HEAVY). Unfortunately i can't remember the names of the ones we bought, but they were all amazing. We had one that had fresh strawberries, a blueberry cheesecake, a sprinkle donut, chocolate donut.... and two other ones. We tried both the regular donut base and also the cake base. I usually don't like cake based donuts because i find them usually way too dense. But at Crave Donuts, the cake base is so fluffy and light. Came here shortly past 1 pm on Saturday and saw a lineup. We were a bit hesitant as it was a cold day, but knowing that this place run out of donuts quickly, we decided to get in line. Took 20 mins from the time we joined in the line till we finished our purchase. Really good donuts in Whitby. Came early on a 'bad weather' day and was able to snag a good selection of donuts based on advice from friends who tell me they sell out quickly on weekends. It's a small shop so I can see why the lines can build up. If you look at their instagram page you'll see when they sell out or updates to their donut flavours. I honestly can't even remember all the flavours we bought but if you have a sweet tooth like me every donut looked and tasted amazing. I never thought I would set alarms on my phone to place an online order for doughnuts, but it happened. In my experience you have to be on the website right at 9am if you want a box. The actual pickup process is very quick which I appreciated. As someone with gluten allergies, I've never actually eaten one of their doughnuts and it's disappointing they don't offer any gluten free options. However, whenever I show up at someone's house with a box of these doughnuts everyone is always impressed. They all look beautiful and far more exciting than any other donuts I've ever seen. They come up with some really cool flavours and my family really enjoys them. However, usually people are only really interested in four or five of the options. The last box I got had a maple bacon donut that no one wanted to try. Usually when I'm picking between the two boxes I know there's at least one donut in each that won't be popular, so that's a little frustrating. Went here on a nice weekday afternoon for the first time. The place itself is small, with room for really only two people inside. We a nice mixture of donuts, ranging from apple pie to salted caramel macchiato, to vanilla sprinkle. The donuts were way bigger than I thought they'd be. The sweet potato one we got barely fit in with the rest of the donuts. The icing wasn't too sweet and the layer was thin enough that it didn't overpower the dough in any way. I got a box of their assorted dozen which contained the following flavours: peach raspberry fritter, creme brûlée, cannoli, churro cruller, honey vanilla cruller, fudge brownie, twix, confetti cake, mango cocolime, coffee cookie butter, and carrot cake fritter. My mistake was thinking 2 people could take on this box before it getting stale... First of all the donuts are HUGE... Really great donuts in Whitby! I was nearby the 2nd Oshawa location (Wentworth) and popped by. I definitely think it's less busy at the Oshawa location but both spots donuts are excellent. Honestly I love crullers and this place makes an awesome crueller. We went during the summer months so I was able to try their seasonal special creamsicle but their classic is the best one. They also have really great service. I was running errands and it was hot that day so they said I can leave my donuts at the shop so they don't go bad. YUM! I have finally tried this place and the hype is real! A half dozen donuts may seem pricey at $20 but when you see them, you'll understand. They are ginormous!!! They are fresh, and there are lots of flavours to accommodate many palettes. The staff are also really friendly. Personally, my favourites were the crueller (crispy but also light and fluffy), the French toast, and the tiramisu. You'll drive up to this place and the line will more than likely extend to the mid/end of the building, but if you've got time, I would wait! The line did move fairly quickly. Crave Doughnuts is a local spot in Whitby, ON and has a new menu every week and have vegan options too! They're open 11-3 on Wednesdays to Sunday, and you can pre-order boxes from Tuesday to Saturday. You can expect a line especially on the weekends, but it's definitely worth. This cute shop and staff provide such a friendly environment, and keep customers in line up to date with their inventory. The doughnuts are on the higher price end, but please keep in mind these are NOT your ordinary doughnuts. They're handmade with local ingredients with a new menu every week. The size of the doughnuts are also much larger than your usually coffee shop doughnuts. Bottom line: Customer service is seriously lacking. I went in on Saturday at 12:30 pm with zero line. Weather was a rain storm. However, about 30 seconds after me another person arrived, and then following that another couple came in. And when leaving, 2 more cars arrived. When I entered the store, there was no greeting - 2 girls were out front by donuts and one of the owners (male) was making donuts or prepping in front. Another male (seemed like dishwasher) was coming back and forth with items throughout the transaction. I had to say hello. I did get a hello back. And what donuts do you want Zero explanation of donut selection. They only had about 5 varieties left. I follow them on Instagram so I knew the varieties they had. And they just changed their menu, which again I saw. I knew they had a selection of vegan, which I noticed were not labeled in their display case. It is bothersome they don't label as some people only eat vegan for their dietary preference. All donuts were clearly labeled, however there was no "V" or anywhere that stating one of the display donuts was vegan. Anyways, I had to ask the girl at the counter to understand which were vegan. Some of the signs for the donuts that sold out were still up so it was confusing as they put two mango habanero out - one in the maple bacon spot and the other in the correct spot. I thought it was two different donuts but I guess it was the same as they told me. Also on Instagram the perception is they always have a line and they're always sold out by 1 pm/2 pm daily. Clearly they're busy, but when I came in - I should have gotten a proper greeting. Anyways how were the donuts? We Tried half of their churo cruller and half of the vanilla crueller. Tried the new location in Oshawa after bookmarking it for weeks. It was very hyped in our house for a while so expectations were high. It didn't quite make the mark sadly. The doughnuts were good but kinda hard to enjoy the flavors because they are extremely sweet. The coconut mango one was my favorite I was able to get some of the coconut mango taste. PB&J tasted nothing like peanut butter so that was disappointing. Lemon custard was bright and sour so my wife liked it. Overall it's probably closer to a 4 stars but not quite there in our books. Biggest bummer I ordered pistachios which I typically love but the cashier gave me some other coconut. I think they need to pick the doughnuts in front of the customer instead of the back shelves that way you can be sure they're picking what you want. I got to Crave around 9:30am on a Sunday and they open at 10. There were already about 15 people in line. I waited, and once they opened the doors the line moved very fast. Walk in, order your donuts, get out. There's a limit of a dozen, which is smart so everyone get some. I ordered an assorted dozen (see picture) and I really enjoyed them. They're definitely, without question, the best donuts in Whitby. Not the best donuts I've ever had, by far, but very enjoyable. More bready from the brioche dough, and not greasy at all. They would have got five stars if it wasn't for the price. $40 for 12 donuts is arrogant, and quite simply extortion. I had about eight different flavours. The most highly recommended would be the glazed Cruller and the Reese's peanut butter. The glazed cruller was airy and buttermilk-flavorful. For the reeses peanut butter one, it was pumped full of the perfect peanut butter mousse. Not too sweet, not too salty, not too thick, not too thin. Just perfect. The donuts are huge. 1.5 the size of a Tim Horton's donut. You have to open your mouth pretty wide to even take your bites. As for the place itself, I went on a cold March Wednesday at 1030am. There was a line up for about 13 people outside but it moved quite quickly. I'd say I only waited about 12 mins. It's a walk-in shop that can hold maybe only about four to five people which is why there is always a lineup. Barely anyone can hold inside! They have a bar-like shelf-table with a few stools. Absolutely pointless because no one is going to have a chance to sit here with the tight space and lines. Also, their opening times are shit. I recommend checking out this place for a few of their select Donuts as long as you can go at a time when there will be few people in the line (weekdays shortly after opening). PS. These dounts are worth the hype! No donut I've had compares to the ones at Crave. They especially perfected the lemon meringue. They have a great contactless system right now- I drove up and got the box brought out to my car. There were about 5 cars in front of me, all of which moved quick. They seem very organized, and everyone was friendly. Previous reviews have mentioned that it is difficult to get your order in due to them selling out very quick- which is true. I was ready at 8:59 (hitting the refresh button exactly at 9) and had no issues getting my order in at my preferred time. It's something to keep in mind if ordering for a gift/celebration, however if you're aware and are able to be ready to order right at 9 I don't see there being much of an issue. Overall you are getting the quality. They are selling out for a reason- they are that good. Top notch customer service. I was so tempted by their Easter doughnuts on their Insta, I drove 1 hour to get one. Unfortunately for their special doughnuts you can't pre-order.
