Compared with the real artisanal donuts I have tried elsewhere, these don't feel particularly unique. I've ordered the Nutella Bomb, Crème Brûlée , Boston Cream, Strawberry Cheesecake, and the Strawberry Maritour. They all seem to use the same base donut, cut it in half, add a bit of whipped cream and fruit, then switch things up with different glazes or a sprinkle of icing sugar. The result is a lot of "same donut" with a similar texture and overall mouthfeel, just with slightly different flavors. At that point, its humble start was inside a midtown restaurant for dessert takeout. Fast forward to now, they have three spots across Toronto including downtown which you can't miss with its colourful baby blue & pink exterior. Inside they specialize in brioche donuts that are all dressed up in a variety of flavours ranging from Nutella bomb to pistachio to Homer's favorite raspberry lemon! On the one hand the donuts are expensive starting around $6, on the other they are quite large and eye-pleasing for a unique treat and a hefty sweet bite at that. On my way to the Art Gallery of Ontario, I spotted Unholy Donut. Looks like a little hole in the wall type of bakery. Stopped in to see what types of donuts were available. Very small interior, basically for purchasing your donuts and leaving. There were an array of donuts displayed. These donuts have no "holes" and are all filled donuts hence the name "Unholy Donuts" (IDK I'm just guessing) Decided to try out two different flavors: -- Strawberry Cheesecake: Filled with strawberry compote, topped with cheesecake frosting, cheesecake crumbs and a cinnamon sugar base -- Salted Caramel Cheesecake: Filled with salted caramel cheesecake, topped with caramel ganache and pretzel antlers They were not what I was expecting!! The strawberry donut had strawberry compote inside. I initially believed the strawberry cheesecake would have a mixture of strawberry sauce and cheesecake inside. The salted caramel was what I thought the strawberry would be -- cheesecake filled. These donuts were heavy in weight, nicely presented. The taste was wonderful. I would definitely purchase other flavors from Unholy Donuts. However, at $7 (Canadian dollars?!?) per donut, I can't justify purchasing a dozen donuts. It would have to be a special occasion like treats for the office or a birthday. I picked this up towards the end of the night. It's nice that the restaurant was clean and the staff are super friendly. The donuts when you buy them in the morning are absolutely the best! I have to say at the end of the night when I got these donuts they weren't as lights or fresh tasting as the are when I get them in the morning. We tried the pistachio cream filled, it was ok. The Ferrero donut was very chocolatey, and also just ok. I tried the crème brûlée donut as well, and the fillings were good for all of the donuts we got this evening. But the actual pastry was quite disappointing. I hope they throw it in the microwave for like 10 seconds next time before stuffing the pastry, I think it would really just give the pastry part of the donut some much needed freshening up. Unholy Donuts (Bay) is a small store for a quick pickup of premium donuts. It is standing room only with all their selection for the day fresh for pickup. I ordered their 6 donut pack option (comes with a small discount) and got the following: - Creme Brulee, nice and simply with a custardy filling and a creme brulee top - Ferrero, filled with a light chocolate mousse/filling and a ferrero on top - Bueno, filled with a Hazelnut filling and two pieces of Bueno on top - Pistachio Crunch, filled with a light cream and topped with pistachios - Lemons Love Homer's, filled with a lemon custard on a Homer's donut base - London Fog Latte, filled with Earl Grey infused cream Overall, it still hits the right buttons satisfying that donut craving. The donut base is tried and true and is light and fluffy, consuming it the same day it is the way to go. There were a few points to point out: the pistachio topping really didn't come true to the rest of the donut, after finishing the top, there wasn't any in the filling (maybe that's the best way to avoid making the pistachios waterlogged?), but this means it's lacking in an even flavor thru the whole donut. The London Fog was a bit too light, it was barely noticeable, maybe a stronger concentrate or just sieving some powdered Earl Grey into the filling would have gave it the strong push it needed. Otherwise, the Creme Brulee, Ferrero, Bueno, Lemons Love Homer's were all hits, they had the right balance, promoting their signature flavor(s). The service was attentive and quick. I was early so was the only customer to the irone baker. The baker was attentive while managing the kitchen and let me know that they can pause and get to me once I was ready. It was a quick and straight forward transaction and everything was packed as carefully to preserve the look of the donuts. Will be back again in a few months to try anything I've missed. Last month, after having spent a couple of hours at Atrium on Bay, I was walking up Bay Street to get to my parked car and noticed Unholy Donuts. The name drew me to it. Unholy as in sinful? The only downside was that there were flies wanting the donuts. It's a good sign that the donuts were yummy, but I didn't want flies regurgitating on a donut that I was about to eat. The donut that caught my attention was Homers loves lemons. Anything with lemons is a must for me to try. I had a nice woman behind the counter take my order. My donut came up to nearly $6. It's on the expensive side. The donuts here are special because they are brioche. I got my donut and thanked her. I headed to my car, sat in it with the air conditioning on, and devoured my donut. This donut had lemon curd it in. It was dreamy and tart. The curd is on the thinner side of the thickness scale. So, when you bite into the donut, the curd will ooze out faster than you think. It was messy and excellent. The brioche dough was yummy. It was soft and chewy. I enjoyed it. It didn't feel heavy. I did find the glaze a bit sweet, but tolerable. It wasn't like I was having a donut an hour. There weren't any places to sit down in this donut place. It's such a tiny space that I can see why. The artwork is cool, though. Other than the fly issue, my donut experience was excellent. I'd return to get more. I dropped by at nearly 8 pm, so the donut selection wasn't extensive. Just bought 3 donuts for $20 and this is gotta be the most expensive donuts I've ever bought. They have lots of selection and the donuts looks pretty and instagrammable but quality is not even there and doesn't even tasted fresh. Tried the Ferrero Rocher, Nutella Bomb and Pistachio Crunch and all three lack flavour, and has dense like texture which is akin to a bread. So if you're looking for an airy and light donut, this is not the one for you! Ferrero Rocher Donut - i love chocolate that's why I opted for this donut but was disappointed upon taking my first bite as the flavour doesn't even compliment each other. You can also tell that they're not using quality chocolate as it tasted gritty and greasy. Nutella Bomb - when you have Nutella plus Belgian milk chocolate mousse/ganache and caramelized toasted hazelnut this should be the perfect combination right? Well not with Unholy Donut's Nutella Bomb. There's so much flavour going on this donut that it's competing for flavour dominance and not complimenting each other. The donuts are prepared in the morning so make sure you go early for the freshest product. The dough used is rather greasy, my napkin was so oily after I was done. This second location opened on 2023-01-13. The first location opened 2021-12-27. They make 24 flavours of brioche donuts, made fresh each day in-house. It takes 2 days to make brioche donuts. There are 12 regular flavours, 6 with a filling, and 6 without. Then there a special flavours, both with and without filling. The special flavours have interesting/unique combinations of flavours. The special flavours can change daily. The donuts are soft and fluffy, but not too sweet. The only deterrent are the prices, ranging from $3.50 to $5.50, but each donut is larger than regular donuts. Unfortunately the flavours I like tend to be at the higher end! The one is liked were: 1. Nutella Bomb donut ($5.50). Filled with Nutella, topped with Belgium Callebaut milk chocolate mousse & ganache, caramelized toasted hazelnuts. 2. Ferrero Rocher donut ($5.50). Yummy yummy! I saw this place as I was walking back to my hotel. As you can see from the pics there are a variety of flavors to puck from, both filled and unfilled. So I decided I'd try one of each. It was not too sweet and it was not tasteless either. It even had a buttery taste. It helps that these donuts are not factory made. Admittedly, for the price, it was a larger donut too. They also had Boston Cream, London Fog, Sugar, Cinnamon and a couple of fruit options. Their donuts looked appealing visually and the store seems clean. A group of friends and I stopped by at Unholy Donuts after walking around downtown for a bit and looking for something small to eat. This was the same place where Uncle Testsu's used to be before they relocated, so we decided to stop by and check out the new shop. Although the store is small, it's very aesthetically pleasing and welcoming. One of my friends decided to get the cheesecake donut (I think), and I bought the matcha latte donut. For each donut, it costs about $5.25- $5.50, so it was a little pricy. The donut just about made up for the price- it was better than Tim Horton's, in my opinion. Although I do wish that the matcha latte had more matcha flavour in it instead of white chocolate, I was still happy with what I got.
