Missed a sign on the door about food and drinks when we walked in. When confronted I Asked if I could just set it down at the counter, which was refused due to Covid. Totally understandable; I had one person in our party run our food and drinks to the car. After he left the store the owner went on a whole trash talking spree about us right in front of me and my daughter. Apparently "I should be lucky she is so nice to explain herself on her policies" (We didn't argue them at all). I went from being very excited to buy merchandise there, to just walking out. Would have been a cool store if the shop keeper didn't ruin the entire experience over a minor mistake/misunderstanding. I'll order online somewhere else. read more

I love this place. but every time I set foot in it I can't help but miss Zipperhead more and more. at least it's (sort of) the same incredible punk rock boutique that offers a lot of the same stuff. and it still has a lot of the same cool staff, which is a good thing because Rob and Stefanie are awesome people. setting foot in it just makes me wish that I could go back to what was a better time for South Street. at least I still have the classic Dead Milkmen song. read more

This is a true old school punk clothing store where you could get some pretty cool things you cant find elsewhere. Their T-shirt selection is nice and these are shirts you wont find really anywhere else or on anyone else. Although not a huge store they do have a nice selection of skinny jeans, shirts, shoes, and lots of accessories. The cashier who I assumed was the owner actually interacts throughout the sale and is definitely helpful. Music in the store isn't bad either. Stores like this are hard to find and when you do see one support them! Keep the scene alive!! read more

Sometimes, you just need the Manic Panic super bleach. And WHERE O WHERE can you get such a product? But of course. The home base of punks, goths and metalheads old and young. What we knew as Zipperhead still exists in a different manifestation around the corner. And it is just as wondrous. I feel at home inside, listening to Ministry and White Zombie and Peter Murphy. I pray that this store never goes away. Because if it did, that would be the final nail in the coffin of South Street as it was and should be. Bless this place. I'm a 33 year old lady and I can't stop putting patches on everything. I have a thing for patches, I do. Patches and pins... I likes em. I like this place. I originally went in cause I had earring envy. I wanted the ones that my sister in law had bought there. I was copying-catting her and I not too proud to admit. I got some earrings but I was distracted by the patches. Crash Bang Boom has piles of patches for me to sort through cause I certainly need yet another Bad Brains or Sub Hum Ans or Cramps patch like I need another hole in the head. Crash Bang Boom is the poor attempt to keep Zipperhead alive in a city whose punk population is less Sex Pistols anarchy and more pre-teen republican bashers. When the original shop closed it was the beginning of the end for the South Street my generation and the ones before me knew and the beginning of one full of boutiques filled with cheap Coach knockoffs and overpriced clothing designed by rap stars. Crash still gets four stars for telling the system to go fuck themselves, we ain't leaving! You'll still find all the cool band t-shirts at Crash minus the inventory of accessories that made Zipperhead what it was. There's still some patches and studs but they're getting rid of their Doc Martins, a travesty to the punk in itself! You now will be forced to go to Dudes, a ghetto leather footwear store down towards 7th street, to get Docs. How appalling is that? The music and the scene might still be there, but a lot of the heart it not. It's a shame, too, because it's that heart that made South Street thrive for the past thirty some-odd years. read more

Been shopping here since they used to be called Zipperhead and were around the corner from here. I've become friends with Rob and Stephanie (the owners) just from stopping in every so often for a punk band t-shirt or pink hair dye. I remember I started shopping here when I was 22 - that's 13 years ago and I used to have a Chelsea cut and used to constantly dye it pink. Anyway - this shop has everything: band t-shirts, hair dye of every color, pins, belt buckles, punk clothes, belts, shoes etc. This place is a historic spot on South St and it's still my go-to for anything punk related. read more

The halcyon Punk Days of South Street are sadly gone, but I remain pollyanna-ishly optimistic for their return. Hey, it's possible... just consider how many times the flavor of South Street has changed over the last 50 years! If and when that day comes, we will have the good folks at Crash Bang Boom (nee Zipperhead) to thank (along with the remaining skate, tattoo, and piercing establishments along 4th Street) for keeping the fire burning! My purple-haired, Doc Marten wearing, roller derby loving daughter loves this place deeply and has been raised to still call it Zipperhead, (same re Wanamaker's v. Macy's) I'm proud to say. This is my go-to place for hair dye. They have the best selection in Philadelphia and even carry my favorite brand, which is 'Special Effects'. Oh the wonders of this store. Made the right choice coming here in search of some leather-ish additions to my wardrobe. Saw a lot of great clothing for men in the front and more for females toward the rear. The man behind the counter was very chill and I actually got a great music recommendation off of him (thanks for suggesting I check out the off-the-radar Jane's Addiction!). This Philly establishment is the original. Before there was the mall punk, South Street was king. And this store has style for days. Just the color and pattern outside is an indicator of how fun the things inside are. Great for finding a new pair of tight black jeans, or that amazing studded belt you need. Love this place. Visited for the first time a few weeks ago and got some great stuff here- black and yellow fingerless gloves and some cool Manic Panic makeup (white powder and 2 shades of lipstick to be exact). The guys working there were very friendly and helpful--they even offered me a free slice of pizza, but I politely declined. We also joked around a little about how I thought I should work there--well maybe that's not so much a joke because if I were able to get down to the city often enough or whenever I move down there (which has yet to be determined) I would totally work at Crash Bang Boom...that is, if they're hiring. read more

As I was strolling down south Street to find me a pair of shades for a party I am attending this weekend. Exhausted, I wanted to go pass Lickety Split to grab a beer, but before I went ,i seen this rocked out store called Crash Bang Boom. It caught my attention so, I though, why not let me see what is in there. I walked in and fell in love I walked in to a more boutique style rock, heavy metal, goth apparel which i love and the woman behind th register with the cool purple hair (didnt know if she was the owner), greeted me she was very nice. I took a look at some of their clothing and assesories and really liked it. I ended up buying some studs and spikes which gave me a idea of custom making some things..... I am a hot topic fan yes... but this gives me more of a small boutique feel.Overall I really like this store. read more

I grew up near Philly and loved going to this place. It is a cool little store and the owners are super friendly and helpful. It's the best place in the area to find unique punk rock clothing and makeup. The prices are pretty good also. It's in a perfect location. I love South Street. If you want to just go spend the day on South Street, don't forget to pop into this store and check it out. I always find something cool when I go in there to buy. I never leave empty-handed. I love this store with all my heart. Before it was CrashBB was Zipperhead owned an run on south st by the same amazing ppl you can find behind the counter today. A historical landmark, philly' s own CBGB's as written about in the song "punk rock girl" by local band "dead milkmen". I knew I was gonna like this store the second I walked in because they were playing really good music and there were tons of cool t-shirts on the wall. If you're looking for a cool t-shirt for yourself or a gift for a friend I'm sure you can find one here because they have lots to pick from. The girl behind the counter was really nice and friendly when we walked in. ( I forgot her name it's not a personal thing, i'm just horrible with names.) There were cool leather bracelets with spikes and studs, purses and other cool jewelry in the area up front. They also had Ramones and other cool onesies if you have any friends with little babies. I really liked the area in the back because they had a lot of cool pre-owned clothes at decent prices. Before we walked out the cool chick (employee) gave us a list with other cool stores like this one that we might like too. Been going here since it was Zipperhead. Best staff in the world (Stef & Rob) and actually has shirts to bands actually relevant to the Punk & Goth scenes. I always find decent stuff on sale and their thrift racks have a bunch of great wardrobe pieces. I got a really nice black and white belted dress that works just as well at job interviews as it does paired with fishnets and Doc Martens for $12. read more

This store is simply an old school goth/punk shop, except the people who work here are friendly. We talked to the lady behind the counter (black hair with bits of red) was as sweet as they come. one of the last few alternative clothing stores around, and one of my favorite spots to pop in while on south street. crash bang boom is always sure to have the goth/punk mainstays while managing to get something new and cute in every time i go there. my hair dye purchases alone probably keep this store afloat, they are one of the few places that still carries special effects! its also refreshing to have a punk rock store without the arrogant staff that they usually contain, everyone here is so friendly! read more

A regular stop every time I hit South Street. I admit part of the appeal is that it transports me back to my beloved (and somewhat fuzzy) 80's. I can always find great vintage T-shirts and such on their consignment rack. They have a nice selection of the Special Effects (FX) hair dye, and also stock the bleach kits. Great staff, T-shirt selection is the greats only however, the attire that's not branded is AMAZING. Great Maxi dresses and great prints for ladies. Real nice leather that you can take care of by yourself and at their prices it's good. With about 20 extra bucks to start your care forever, this joint has you covered for your first leather. read more
