The staff are friendly and welcoming. The receptionist took all the needed information on the phone so she could check on my insurance coverage ahead of time. There is ample parking and the clinic is easy to find. Dr. Erickson's assistant is professional and put me right at ease (she had a sense of humor, too). Dr. Erickson was compassionate and thorough. He walked me through what he planned to do, his assessment and additional options and the possible out-of-pocket cost to me. He was upfront and honest that the work I needed to get done what not his area of expertise, but he could do it. However, he provided me with options to see an oral surgeon if I felt more comfortable doing that. I appreciated that. I highly recommend Dr. Erickson and his team.

Never in my life have I experienced such disrespect and immaturity from a medical "professional."…read more I was given 2 different "quotes" for work to be done, the 2nd being higher cost due to newly added procedures in overall 5/6 stage project. When I spoke with the financial admin and let them know that I would be looking elsewhere for service because of it (more-so because of the lack of communication on the change in general), she had let me know that even with the change, Dr Nicoara would honor the first quote. Now even from the start, Nicoara isn't the best "people person" as her personality was very dry/stagnant, but I went along with it anyway because I'm ignorant to where I could get assistance for the procedure I needed. So I go back in for my 3rd visit now, and this time they ask for payment where I was told it would be honored previously. When I bring this up, Nicoara told me that it wasn't true and the billing admin should have never made those claims. Obviously, this shows they need some more administrative training if that is the case because that's a giant miscommunication. Here is where s**t hit the fan though. When talking about this, I had let her know that I didn't appreciate her tone with me, as it was very "on-edge / defensive" in nature. And here I am, a confused, out of my element CUSTOMER just trying to figure out what's going on. She clearly did not like that comment, as she started to get very loud and started talking randomly about cancer patients trying to prove a point on something irrelevant. At this point I stated that I didn't feel comfortable any longer being treated there. My reply? Nicoara: "THAT'S FINE, OUT OUT OUT OUT OUT, GET OUT OF HERE!!!" Straight up yelling at me to get out. Never, ever, should anyone have to deal with this level of disrespect, especially when in the vulnerable position of trying to find capable tooth care. I was a confused customer just trying to understand the system in place. And instead of proper customer support, empathy, and engagement, I was given the most immature pile of garbage possible. I informed my dentist office who referred me here. They kindly gave me a new recommendation elsewhere. I recommend anyone else stay away from this cesspool. I feel sorry for the administration staff that works here, as they were all actually very nice and helpful.

Considering I've already shown some bone loss, this makes me nervous. My dentist said nothing about this, but I asked for perio consult. The first opinion I got offered no solutions for sensitivity, wanted to do a few grafts to protect teeth from falling out. Dr Mao, on the other hand, suggested pedicle grafts in addition to the ones first opinion offered. While the healing of this seems to mean a bit more swelling at first, it addresses the sensitivity issue, and my teeth look so much more normal! I've had issues for over a decade, always a background consideration for if/when things get worse, and that was becoming more present with choosing foods based on sensitivity. If the pedicle grafts restore coverage so I'm less afraid to look in my own mouth, background worrying about worsening, that is awesome, I had never heard this option before. And I love that I don't have to worry about the cold of eating carrots! All of the office staff is friendly and effective. I emailed about a question and got a call back the same day; they even put Dr. Mao on the phone to answer my questions. I was pretty nervous about the procedure and I got the text from my pharmacy about the Valium prescription I requested almost immediately after getting off the phone. I've just had my second procedure with Dr. Mao. He's great about making sure questions are answered, and it says something that he puts his cell number on the care sheet. He gave me a call around 8pm the evening of the procedure just to check in. I feel very cared for and trust his opinions and his work. He takes pictures before and through the healing process at follow ups. I haven't asked to see these yet, but I think it will be fascinating to do so down the road. I had to go out of network from my insurance to see him, but I'm so much more confident in his care, I think the extra cost is worth it.

However, I was never prescribed a sedative in the group of 3 other medications they prescribed for me to pick up, so I assumed I would be given it on the day of my surgery. Nope. When I showed up they immediately took me back and I started panicking and asked where the sedative would be, and they tried to turn it on me and say I never picked it up (later they admitted to having never prescribed it). They still wanted to go ahead with the surgery with NO SEDATIVE and NO PAINKILLERS. At this point I was ready to cancel my surgery on the spot and run, but the doctor offered to make up for it with an IV sedative, *free of charge*. After the surgery I had nightmares for weeks due to how pushy they were to operate on me regardless of not having the proper sedative set up. They also got blood all over my shirt. I had already pre-paid my insurance estimate ahead of time, and just received a bill in the mail stating I owed another several hundred dollars. Upon closer inspection I realized they did end up charging me over $600 extra for the IV sedation that I had been told would be free of charge. The graft itself actually caused worse recession of my gums as it was placed too low and started pulling down my gumline. I went to another periodontist after for a second opinion and they said that not only had the surgery been completely unnecessary, but it was done via a decades out of date technique. They recommended I get treatment immediately for the recession caused by the IPANW surgeon. Lastly, I'd like to give an honorary mention to the receptionists at IPANW who are some of the most miserable, egotistical women I've met in my life. Coming into the office or giving them a call was always an awful experience and they did everything they could to make it as unwelcoming as possible. In the beginning when they'd forgotten to prescribe the oral sedative, they even hung up on me mid-call because they refused to accept that it had been their issue. Later their billing department performed an investigation and found that it had indeed been their fault. I highly, HIGHLY recommend avoiding this place and looking somewhere else. They've caused me so much pain, misery, and financial stress for an operation I hadn't even needed.

While I completely understand that I would ultimately need to be seen for an evaluation and treatment plan, I do feel that is is reasonable to ask for pricing for a specific service/procedure that has been outlined by another professional. I was informed that it was the policy of the office not to provide pricing over the phone, and when I started to say "Ok thank you, I think you should provide feedback to the owner..." the woman on the phone literally said "I'm going to stop you right there" and hung up the phone on me. I am not going to debate whether or not they should provide pricing over the phone (I think they should, they think they shouldn't which is their right), but to actually hang up on me mid sentence was a strange experience to say the least. I hesitated to post this review, but felt like it needed to be shared. Side note: I don't think it should be this hard to get pricing from different providers (medical or dental). Customers should be able to shop around especially for procedures costing thousands of dollars. I'm glad others have had a positive experience with this place, and I hope that continues...

I am so incredibly grateful to Judy Carroll for her devotion, expertise, and deep dental wisdom…read more I came to Judy after struggling to find any dentists or specialists to clear an infection on tooth 28. It was oozing a little pus and no one seemed confident in clearing it. I even had an "endoscopy" cleaning from another dentist and it did not work. They did not do nearly the job that Judy Carroll did. Judy did full mouth anethesia and took nearly 3 hours to clean out all 4 quandrants of my mouth. She was thorough, committed, and has given me numerous resources to get at the cause (occlusion being a big one). I flew out from CA to see her and boy was I grateful I did. My tooth infection that had been plaguing me for 8 months was gone the very next day. I was ecstatic to say the least. I would never, ever get a basic deep clean scaling and root planing again. I had it 4 months before seeing Judy, and had a ton of build up still present. If I can help it, I would never see a practitioner who doesn't use a microscope properly again. Too much missed on these precious teeth. Judy's work is a true Godsend to this planet. The dental field would be much improved by incorporating her incredible holistic work!!

The dental establishment is too quick to pull teeth and place implants (where possible). This is…read morethe bread and butter of periodontics and there's no downside for the practitioners. I've sat in waiting rooms and watched young people, 30 years old, leaving the office having had every single tooth pulled. It's a miserable and irreversible experience that can practically ruin a person's life. What's worse, pulling teeth doesn't even address the cause of the disease, nor stop it. The pathogens and inflammation in the mouth continue to eat away at the bone and gum tissue. Thirteen or 14 years ago, I went to several nationally renowned periodontists, and they all said I needed to have something like eight teeth extracted. Terrified, I researched online and found PerioPeak, traveled to Washington, had the treatment, and here I am 14 years later, and I still have all those teeth. Do your research, do your due diligence, and I think you'll find that the PerioPeak treatment protocol is not only sound, but it also just makes sense. I feel there are several reasons most periodontists won't do it though. The dental endoscope machine is expensive, and the procedure takes a lot of hard work and skill, much harder than most of what periodontists do. Plus, perhaps most damning, it's effective! If they can put someone in a chair and treat their problem in one fell swoop, they just lost themselves an implant customer. It's the same reason they don't address the root cause of periodontitis. They can't earn money by identifying vitamin D deficiency or by prescribing a medication like Periostat. If they all provided this common-sense treatment, they would put themselves out of business in a week. It's no wonder this treatment still hasn't been embraced by the establishment. Someday, though, I imagine it will be the standard, and they'll look back on these days as barbarism. Have you ever seen Erin Brockovich? This isn't so different. The establishment went after Judy Carroll, Director of PerioPeak, about ten years ago, took her to court and threw everything they had at her... but she prevailed. With all their resources, fancy lawyers, and bottomless war chests, they couldn't win the case because the science and the results are irrefutable. And thank goodness too because no one else is doing what Judy Carroll does. I don't know of anyone else approaching periodontitis holistically, not just in name, but in reality, addressing and treating the whole patient, the actual cause of the disease. If you want to keep your teeth, I highly recommend checking out PerioPeak.
