I had previously dealt with Alex at Craftsman to replace my back bumper on my truck in 2018. The experience was pleasant and professional.
In August 2019 my truck received some damage due to a hit and run. I dealt with Scott this time after insisting with my insurance that I take it to Craftsman based on my prior experience. Unfortunately I was not as pleased as my previous repair. The damage was to the door, fender and running board. I was informed that the brand of running board was discontinued. Scott asked me to go to the nearest Dodge dealer and to provide them with a part number for something that I liked. As I was out of town on business I asked them to find a chrome running board that was comparable in looks and quality to the ones on the truck. I asked them to send a picture prior to purchasing them. Although Scott agreed to do this he did not send pictures and instead just had a set installed. When I saw the finished product I showed Scott that the brackets on the running boards were skimpy 1/4 inch metal and the running boards were extremely loose. The original running boards had much heavier substantial brackets and were tight. After taking the truck in for their technician to look at, Scott informed me that there was nothing that they could do with these unless my insurance authorized them to scrap them and to buy new ones. I informed him that they should not be loose and should have had better brackets. If he would have sent pictures as I had asked him to I would not have accepted this particular brand. He informed me that the problem was with the Dodge design and not the running boards. Frustrated, I took my truck to United Hitch to get a quote on replacing the running boards as they were not acceptable. After explaining my problem United Hitch's technician inspected the running boards and informed me that the running boards had been installed without all the proper parts needed. That was the reason for them being so loose. My insurance adjuster called and I explained the problem I was having. He then informed Craftsman of their failure to install running boards properly. Right after that call Scott called me to inform me that he was making arrangements with United Hitch to install the running boards properly. He chastised me for not informing him that I was taking the vehicle over to someone else to inspect the running boards. He did not apologize for their deficient work or for all my wasted time in dealing with the matter. I do now have a set of running boards that are not loose but still with inferior brackets on my truck . Not pleased.
This certainly has been two completely different experiences from this shop.
