Fast forward to a few years later: I was hosting another baby shower at a venue in Huntington Beach. Even though they didn't have a license to operate in the city--and their pricing was higher--I still really wanted them. I even offered to cover the cost of the business license so they could cater my event. But the day of the event was a total letdown. The staff arrived late and started cooking in foil trays, which immediately raised questions from my guests. I kept trying to hype them up, saying "just wait, this is the best I've ever had!"--but when the food came out, it was disappointing. Tacos and hot dogs were bland, and even the "signature" sauce couldn't save it. Guests were making comments like, "Taco Bell would've been better." To make matters worse, it was so embarrassing that my guests ended up filling up on the pizzas I had ordered for the kids. Since then, I've had friends and family recommend other taco caterers, which kind of stings given how much I once vouched for Mr. Hot Bunz. Really disappointed. This time we were needing catering for a Celebration Of Life for my wife's grandpa, It was small ~100 people. We wanted just appetizers, drinks and desserts. After selecting our appetizers, drinks and cupcakes we were sent the invoice. She included full service for two hours, she didn't want us to worry about anything. We have someone who is allergic to gluten and Carolina was more than accommodating. The day of service the caterers showed up EARLY!!!! How awesome! They were ready to go and I showed them where to set up and reminded them about the allergy. The display was amazing, it was so beautiful and more than we could ask for (pictures). The servers were on top of it, the food was being plated as people took it to make sure it was fresh (no chaffing dishes)! It was served with salad, chicken fried rice, edamame and veggies. Plenty of food and so delicious! The company sent 3 employees. 2 chefs and 1 helper. They were so friendly and attentive. They set up quickly, the presentation looked wonderful, and all the guests had a really good time. I was nervous as I chose this company from looking online and didn't know anyone who had personally used them. I placed a $200 deposit and then they sent me a form to add in the details of the event, with final details (head count, allergies, etc.) due 10 days in advance. I never heard from them so I just sent it in. Which they acknowledged receiving. And then full payment is due 3 days before the event. Never heard from them. Two days before the event I had to reach out and ask for the invoice, which they promptly sent. I was nervous with the lack of communication although they always responded if I reached out. But they showed up early, surveyed the space in the backyard and figured out the table set up within the space available. One of the chefs did a lot of entertaining while cooking, where we noticed the second chef on the other grill didn't do as much. The helper was fantastic but I can see how the experience varies depending on the chef. The clean up was fast and thorough. There was zero clean up for us to do. We had a great experience and will absolutely use them again for special celebrations.
