    Nostalgic candies

Had a great dinner date with the hubby at Cracker Barrel in Troy. The service was wonderful - we got seated right away and our server was very attentive. We enjoy going to Cracker Barrel during this time of year because they offer the country fried turkey which is AMAZING! It comes with 2 sides of your choice, biscuits and cranberry relish (which they forgot - ). Come hungry because it's a large portion or take home leftovers for another meal later. They have other great food options as well and the prices are reasonable. They also have prepackaged $6 Take Home Meals available. We got 2 for dinner the next night - grilled chicken with mashed potatoes and meatloaf with mac & cheese. The manager was friendly, greeted us and inquired of our experiences. I was so full, I didn't mention they forgot the cranberry relish, haha. The highlight of the restaurant is all the merchandise. I love the nostalgic candies and unique gifts. I'll be going back soon and often. This place is a winner winner, grilled chicken dinner.

Decided to give cracker barrel one more try after staying away after the whole logo kerfuffle. Fwiw. I was more upset about the upcoming chain-wide interior remodels than I was the logo. But....in the course of that whole debacle, I, like millions of other Cracker Barrel regulars, learned about not only all the woke and lgbtqrstuv stuff, but also about the food. And I mean WHY the food isn't as good anymore....the fact that stuff is no longer made fresh. It's made ahead of time and warmed up. This explains why the last few times I had the meatloaf it was pretty bad (and this is many many mkt ha before the whole logo imbrolio). I remember thinking "well, I must've gotten here before the next mestloaf is done and this must be the last remaining bit of the last loaf. No biggie. I'll eat it and hope it's better next time". Nope. Like two or three in a row it was bad. Hadn't ordered it since. So back to breakfast....got my usual mommas pancake breakfast. For one...I usually order an extra egg in the scrambled eggs....but even then the eggs are so tiny it's a paltry amount of scrambled eggs. So I didn't bother. Asked for the bacon "not crispy". Someone didn't get the memo it didn't care to make the effort to give me special cooked bacon. The pancakes.....I used to think they had the best pancakes ever. Not so anymore. They're always tough....ive always thought maybe because someone has over mixed the batter. Now....i think k they just make them ahead and freeze them too. That's what they taste like. So....im basically done. I mean look at this sorry breakfast! Fwiw....from now on (when I'm Home and not working out of state) when I crave pancakes I'll drive 45 minutes to a local diner type place on rt66 that's been there forever and just discovered their pancakes. Lordie are the amazing.

It is time to stop going to Cracker Barrel when they advertise home style green beans and it is clear that they came straight out of a can.

Pro tip: definitely check their hours before you go--and honestly, just plan your day around it because it's that good. I was expecting your typical little coffee-and-sandwich spot, but it completely exceeded my expectations. They have a couple of parking spaces behind the building, and if those are full, there's a free lot about 500 feet down the road. It was pretty busy at lunchtime. You order at the counter, and they bring everything to your table. There's a mix of indoor and outdoor seating in various sizes, and the decor is adorable. I especially loved the maps--they make great conversation starters. I noticed several tables pointing out places they'd visited and swapping travel stories. The menu has a nice variety. I ordered the chicken salad on ciabatta with a side salad. The chicken salad had a strong dill flavor that I really enjoyed, and the ciabatta was perfectly fresh--not too tough. Next time, I'll probably pick a different side since the salad was basically just lettuce. If there was any dressing, it was super light, so I ended up adding some of the lettuce into my sandwich. The surprise standout, though, was the lavender lemonade--a total sleeper hit. It was scorching hot that day, and I wanted something refreshing, so I ordered it on a whim. Honestly, it was the best lemonade I've ever had. I don't usually find myself making a special trip to a café just for lemonade, but here I am. I'm not sure if it's seasonal, but I really hope it sticks around.

I had a few errands so I was satisfied to grab a few things to start my day! I usually get the hot mocha, it was out very fast! Service is always amazing, they bring your drink right out to you & never get your order mixed up. Less than 5 minutes I got my drink, super delicious if you ever get the chance to try I also got a new food items, the pecan sticky bun & raspberry muffin looked too good to resist! I'm also a big fan of the 'day old pastries box' because I do try to cut costs when I can it's only $7 & I love the idea of getting a surprise! They're always delicious and taste like they were made that morning. I can tell they use real, quality ingredients for their food. I have issues sometimes with gluten and certain processed breads, but I really enjoy being able to have something sweet without all the extra junk! I got out with spending about $25, pretty good deal and better quality than most places! I like to support small/individual businesses when I can, I really believe you do get a better experience and product. My favorite place to go to for coffee in Edwardsville, so if you're looking for great coffee with great service, take a look at this place, you won't regret it! support small business

Within the last month, Sacred Grounds has had a change in ownership. For some that is sad news, but…read morethe good news is that the new owners so far have been keeping the same high quality service and products. My recent visit was to take part of Javapalooza being sponsored by Rivers and Routes Tourism Bureau. When it's warm outside, I enjoy my coffee iced. My go to is, Vanilla Honey Latte with whole milk. If you're having a latte, why not go whole hog and enjoy that whole milk. The rich fullness of whole milk, adds to the flavor. Looking at their pastry case, it was hard for me to choose. However, once my eyes saw the Pizza Scone, I wanted a savory treat over a sweet. The scone was full of flavor, but a little on the dry side. After a couple bites, the dryness did not bother me, because the flavor was so good. Scared Grounds is located on the Main drag in downtown Edwardsville, so next time you're in town, be sure to stop by.
