While visiting family in Kansas, my dad, stepmom, and I decided to have breakfast at Cracker Barrel. I'm a big fan of this restaurant, so I was excited to see if there were any differences in the service or atmosphere since this was my first time visiting a location in another state. As soon as I looked at the menu, I knew exactly what I wanted. They had these new campfire meals that looked so good! I wanted the one with the beef, carrots, potatoes, and corn. When our server came over, I tried to place my order, but she asked if it was 11:00 a.m. yet. Her response caught me off guard because I honestly didn't know what time it was. I checked my phone and saw it was only 10:40. She then asked what I'd like instead, so I told her I needed another minute to look over the menu. I understand the campfire meals weren't available until 11:00, but I feel like the situation could have been handled a little more warmly. It made the interaction feel a bit awkward, and for a moment I considered waiting the extra 20 minutes because I had my heart set on trying one of the new menu items. Since it was my dad's birthday, though, I didn't want to hold everyone up, so I ordered the Momma's French Toast Breakfast with eggs and bacon instead. The food was good, and overall I had a pleasant visit. As always, the gift shop was full of cute items, although I didn't end up buying anything this time. My only real complaint was the service. Cracker Barrel will humble you. It does in my case. Those grits are delightful! The bacon, eggs, and biscuit? Heaven sent. Their fried okra seals it. Perfectly crunchy. Deeply comforting. Served with a smile. Our waitress was - just like her colleagues - exemplary. Genuinely friendly. No pretension. Cracker Barrel is usually my "Go To" for breakfast but this day was less than superb! It wasn't too busy but we had about a 10 min wait which isn't horrible-perhaps they did not have enough staff . We were greeted by a server within a few minutes, my parents ordered coffee and I ordered tea. We looked over the menu and I was hungry for Blueberry pancakes so I ordered Momma's Pancake Breakfast, which was 3 Blueberry Pancakes, 2 Eggs(you choose style) and meat which I ordered Bacon. The Pancakes were a little over cooked and the server brought me regular syrup instead of the blueberry one. Eggs and bacon were good. My mom ordered the French Toast which came out burnt-I was surprised that they even made it out to the table like that! I told my mom to send it back as we are paying for it so she should get food that isn't burnt! We asked the server to take it back and my mom decided she wanted the blueberry pancakes instead. The server brought them about and they looked way better than the French toast. My dad ordered the Breakfast tacos which came out fine, he only ate 1.5 of it-it's a pancake with egg and bacon in it. Our server looked busy in our area but it really wasn't full, my mom had to ask for a refill of coffee during our meal. The server was friendly and she apologized about my mom's breakfast and ended up taking it off our ticket and just charged for 2 pancakes. Ordering online with curbside pickup was a terrible experience. It was my grandmother's 91st birthday and she just got home from a nearly 30 day stay in the hospital. She asked for Cracker Barrel so we chose to pick it up, take it to her home and enjoy her birthday meal there. I arrive 5 minutes early at 5:25pm and clicked the I am here button and noted my parking spot. 15 minutes later and young man came out and told me they didn't have any fried apples. We had apples as a side for all 3 meals. I asked if we could substitute, he said yes, but didn't offer any suggestions. I asked him what might be sweet we could replace the fried apples with. He told me coke cake or apple custard. I had never heard or either of those, so I told him anything apple would do. 5 minutes later another young man came out, brings me my bag of food and told me they didn't have any fried apples and asked what I would like to substitute. I told him another young man had just come out and asked me the same thing. He told me they had apple cobbler, so I told him great. 5 minutes later a lady comes out and tells me I cannot substitute apple cobbler for the fried apples and askes me what I'd like to substitute. Again, no menu or anything to help me decide. I remember loaded mashed potatoes were an option so I asked her for those and reminded her that my food had already been delivered and it was getting cold. 5 minutes later, the manager comes out with a bag. It has 1 container of loaded mashed potatoes. I reminded her that we had ordered 3 meals and each had fried potatoes so shouldn't I get 3 loaded potatoes? She said they now had fried apples as they just came off the truck and asked if I'd rather have those. I SAID YES! I also informed her my food had been delivered and was getting cold and how terrible experience this had been. At 6:00pm on the dot, the manager returns with 3 containers of fried apples. 30 minutes in the curbside spot. 4 different people dealing with the problem and I ended up with hot apples, but cold everything else. Topeka location this evening. It was probably the worst experience I have had at this location. The food was mediocre and a chicken fried chicken was quite tough. The service was pretty bad. I had ordered a lemonade with no offer to refill though it sat there empty for 80% of my time there, and was seen by the waitress several times. read more

The waitress truly struggled to take our order. We felt bad for her. My mother-in-law ordered the maple bacon chicken and chose Mac n cheese and hashbrown casserole. My husband ordered Grandma's Sampler. I ordered the Southern fried chicken with green beans as my side. The Hashbrown casserole was not cooked thoroughly. The potatoes were hard. The Mac n cheese was cold. The fried chicken coating was so hard I couldn't break it with my fingers or my teeth. It was way over cooked. We asked for our waitress who was Mia and she never came. We asked hailed the manager as he walked by and told him the situation. He offered to take it off the ticket or bring fresh fried chicken and fresh hashbrown casserole. I declined the fried chicken and requested the chicken fried chicken. The manager brought the chicken out within 5 to 7 minutes, placed it on my table and walked away. I did have time to say thank you. He never came back to check on the food, our waitress never came back, and no one was available to bring take home boxes or our check. Cracker Barrel I am VERY unhappy with tonight's dinner at Cracker Barrel. Our waitress could not tell us about rewards program, nor did she offer to find out. I went and asked up front and they told me what to do and we ordered one of the offered apps. Our server, Ladayette (sp?) did not ever bring them or mention them again and my husband did not receive the fries ordered with his steak dinner. She offered to bring them when we were finished with our meal but it was too late. We took the receipt to cashier and the appetizer ordered was listed. We explained to cashier and then to manager that we didn't get that or the fries and she removed the appetizer price and took a very small percentage off for the fries not brought out. I'm sorry but I think that is not enough of a comp for poor service. They should have comped one of our meals for the total lack of service. My husband and I are very frequent travelers and have visited many Cracker Barrel's all over the US. This was the poorest experience we have ever had. Dinner menu options are plentiful. My wife had the chicken and dumplings which she felt were way to salty, I had the chicken strips which were excellent. The dinner side options are portion sized much smaller than in the past, and we found the included dinner biscuits or cornbread has to be now asked for, as well as any condiments for them, wait staff did not offer during ordering or serving. Drinking water had a horrendous taste, guessing that keeps customers ordering profitable soft drinks, etc. Overall, pretty decent place to eat still, not the Cracker Barrel of old, but would still return. I went to the one in Topeka KS last night and was worst I have ever had at a Cracker Barrel. It took an hour to get my food. My fried chicken was overcooked, dry, and small pieces. The biscuits were flat but fresh. Everyone in there was waiting at least one hour for their food. Young man at table next to mine said his chicken was just like mine, bad. I listened to the waitresses and waiters having to apologize several times after taking orders to later tell people their food requests were sold out and needed to order something else. I went to eat last night with my boyfriend at this location out of spontaneity. I was excited and in a good mood to try yummy food in a place I had never been, especially since i LOVE to eat. Immediately after finding the hostess counter, the hostess seemed irritated and annoyed. I am not one to be rude or disrespectful to those are taking care of me so her attitude caught me off guard. After being seated at out table, our waitress took 20 minutes to ask us what we wanted to drink & eat. Unfortunately, our food took even longer. I got the chicken fried steak w green beans, a loaded sweet potato, & cornbread. My honest review: the gravy was cold, steak was tough to cut through, breading was soggy, my green beans were canned & falling apart, the loaded sweet potato was good on top due to the brown sugar & marshmallow but immediately so bitter as I reached the inner part. Well, the app and website were not working and we had tried with Junction City and that bombed gloriously....so we googled and found there was a Cracker Barrel in Topeka....about 10 miles out of the way of where we were going but.....so worth it! I explained to Shaharah the situation with the app/website and she was so nice and cheerful. Took the order, had it made correctly, and was so professional and efficient. We requested straws for our drinks we were told no there was a shortage of straws but yet 8 out of 10 tables had straws. I have a dental sensitivity so I was not happy. Our server was a younger kid and wasn't very good. Our drinks were not refilled till the meal was almost over. The ticket to pay came right after the food though. If not for my wife's need for chicken fried steak tonight we would have never made our way into this country hell. An hour in and they come out to tell us they are out of one of the meals we ordered. This is after waiting 30 minutes on an estimated 10 minute wait to be seated in a half empty dining room, being brought the wrong drink twice, having the dining room empty out and the staff begin cleaning for close at our table, and having the very pleasant family next to us convey they had been here and hour and a half. When they packed up their lovely baby and made their way to the door, we congratulated them on their achievement of actually receiving their food, which was not what they ordered, and wished them well on their escape. If our food doesn't come soon, or at least some food, I fear we might be forced to fight the staff for Moonpies and Giant Reeses Cups in the lobby. FML. Two stars is generous for this location. I was looking forward to enjoying a meal here. It's been years since I've been to a cracker barrel. My passed experiences have been wonderful. This time not only was the service suffering but the food was terrible. I ordered the steak meal and had to send it back. I then requested a loaded potato and soup so I had something to eat. Waiter actually came out stating he hopes it was warm enough for me. I don't know about you but I like my food hot. All of it came out luke warm including the biscuits which we got late too. Well I took my wife out tonight for a nice dinner which was good but after we ate we decided to order peach cobbler to go sounded good so we got home and let our dinner go down and decided to eat it a couple minutes ago and there was 4 slices of peaches some syrup and little not even a scoop of ice cream so I called Cracker Barrel and asked to talk to a manager and she told me ice cream was extra if u take it to go but it comes with it if you have it there not only that but there wasn't any breading or crust and the manager named Brody said there portioned out so but what doesn't make sense is why is there so many excuses I just want to be taken care of. If your a manager you should do anything and everything to take care of your customers very disappointed need less to say they lost us as customers. read more
