Horrible horrible manager. Have been here twice. First time was told that their refried beans were vegan so I ordered a taco salad with refried beans. On my second, and final visit, I was told their refried beans were made with lard but their black beans were vegan. I ordered another taco salad with black beans. When I received it the shell was cold and couldn't even be cracked. It was even hard to tear it. I asked for a freshly made shell. The waiter left and the manager came to the table. When he asked what my "problem" was he didn't even look at me. I explained I just simply wanted a fresh taco shell for my salad as the one that was served to me was inedible. He said, "We make our shells at 11:00am and at no other time." (again not looking at me) and walked off. This was at 11:30am so 100% sure the shell they served me was from the day before. Dear Manager, you are lucky I did not have a medical condition from eating your lard. That would have cost you your job and this company a whole lot of money. I also urge you to educate yourself and your staff that some humans are vegan because they medically have to be. read more

We celebrated my Uncle's birthday at JP, my cousin made reservations or called ahead as we had a large party. We had 2 more people join us unexpectedly, as our reservation was for 11 I believe. We asked if we could add another table but told we could not so our other 2 had to sit in a booth off to the side of our party. Our server was friendly I think her name was Joslyn, she greeted us promptly and took or drink order-chips and salsa came out quickly. They do have a Happy hour for drinks and select Apps. I ordered a margarita that was half frozen half rocks. It was ok but I ordered a beer after I had finished that drink. I also ordered the Espinaca Queso which was pretty good. I decided to try the Del Trio Fajitas as they had the jalapeño bacon wrapped shrimp that was delicious, as well as steak and chicken. The meal itself was pretty good! Our server kept on top of filling g our waters and also asking if we wanted another drink. The restaurant was not busy when we arrived but it did get busy around 5:30-6pm. The restaurant it self looked clean as well as the bathrooms. I do believe they do have some patio seating as well that might be nice on a cooler day. Tex Mex chain that packs an authentic punch! Visited here with coworkers on an out of town trip. I'm not always a fan of chain Tex-Mex restaurants and was even more nervous once I saw the menu-it was a bit overwhelming but I was pleasantly surprised. I got the chicken Al pastor and one thing I was shocked about was the freshness of the beans. I'm used to having the refried beans mash but these were whole beans simmered down in a spicy sauce with cilantro, tomatoes, and onions. I could've filled up on those alone. The al pastor was great as well-the freshness of the pineapples and cilantro really set everything off. The restaurant got busy right as we were coming in and even as a party of 9, I would say the waitress managed extremely well. The whole establishment worked as a team, made sure we were well taken care of. Even though the food was amazing, our drinks were not. They were bland and tasted watered down. We even sent them back and they still were not good. The bathrooms also were extremely dirty. With the exception of those 2 fails, it would have been a 5 star visit. read more

My husband and I came in around 8 pm and Joshua immediately came to seat us with such a kind and welcoming energy. Seconds into encountering one another, we were already cracking jokes. Katrina, our server, was so sweet and attentive. We had such great conversation and she genuinely cared about our dinner experience. Now, the food. GUYS! As the kids these days say, "the food SLAPPED." Sorry, I had to. Anyway, the food was great. Tasted even better than the photos look. I recommend this spot whether you're passing through, or you're a local. Do it. And ask for either Joshua or Katrina if you want a 10/10 experience. I am in town for a business trip and we had dinner here because it's close to the hotel. Had a decent meal and a fruity margarita! Can't go wrong there. They gave us chips and salsa for the table when we were sat. And ample time to look over their big menu. I ended up ordering the peach frozen margarita and the shrimp tacos. The margarita was exactly what you'd expect of it. And for the food...Such a huge serving. It was two very large tacos in a flour tortilla. Shrimp, that on the menu said would be glazed, but they were doused in so much cheese I really couldn't see the glaze. But hey, it was cheese, so I am not complaining. There was a side of rice, beans and a small scoop of a corn situation. The rice was good, seemed more buttery than Mexican-y (like a rice pilaf) The service was quick and the prices are very fair. I know it's a chain and I know it's not authentic Mexican food. But overall I thought it was a fine meal and checked all the boxes I needed tonight. read more

Taco salad had plastic that was melted in it. I had a mouth full of taco salad while chewing I felt something hard and I pulled it out and it was melted plastic that they heated my meet the pulled beef in and the cook was too lazy to remove. And then when the manager was called over he was almost unapologetic and I felt insincere about the quality of the food and preparation in the kitchen and I feel that the manager honestly couldn't care less. Wow!!! I was passing through Topeka and found this gem!! Sat at the bar and had a beer and chips within a minute! I ordered the Carnitas Chimichanga which was super tasty! I also signed up for the rewards and got some free Espinaca Queso! The Chimichanga was super flavorful and I loved all the sauces. The queso was awesome as well! It was like Spinach Artichoke dip done Mexican style! The refried beans were really great! The vibe in the restaurant is very chill and they even played my favorite Ben Rector song! It's nice and quiet making conversation enjoyable! I definitely recommend! They do not have any spicy hot sauce! I was a little disappointed cause I like a little kick with my food! This place is a local staple. Recently, however they have changed managers and the service has gone downhill. It seems all good waitstaff have been run off. Most recently was in on a Sunday around 3:15 in the afternoon. I understand that's close to shift change, but the hostess asked our server if she would take another table and she agreed. We were treated as an inconvenience and once our food arrived she never came back. We saw her buzzing all over the restaurant, but she avoided our table and a couple others seated after us. A different waiter came by to check on us and introduce himself. Neither of them informed us they were changing over and he would be our new server. After about 15-20 minutes after we'd taken our last bites I finally went to the bar to ask for the check and a box. Our food was good, but the experience of the service definitely tarnished the whole trip leaving the food to be barely memorable. read more

I could spend a lot of time here. It's a really comfortable place. They have inside and outside seating. Stopped in for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. We each ordered a lunch sized taco meal. I got Shrimp Taco with rice and beans. My wife ordered Carne Taco. Both looked wonderful. My shrimp had a sauce on it that was way too salty. But the Carne tasted good. Besides the beans and rice, we each got a little scoop of Masa. What a nice pallet cleanser. Our server was attentive and very helpful. We will probably return for a margarita and dinner. read more

This place has the best chips in the city. They are light, crispy, lightly salted, and always served warm. Their salsa is also very tasty, but you have to ask for the spicy salsa if you want something with a little more heat. For an extra dollar, you can add one of their queso dips that comes in three different flavors. The spinach queso dip is probably the best of the three. I would classify Jose Peppers as an Americanized Mexican restaurant. The portions are large, quality of their items are excellent, and they offer a large selection of items. I usually get the Chicken Fajita's and I will substitute the rice and beans with fresh fruit. The chicken is seasoned and served on a hot pan lined with grilled onions. They also include a small container of melted butter, some grated cheese, lettuce, guacamole, salsa, and flour tortilla shells. Prices are decent, you can get lunch for an average of $15 a person. Service is good, they even offer an express lunch service where certain items on their menu are guaranteed to be delivered to you in under 10 or 15 minutes or it is free. They do offer Pepsi products as well as alcoholic drinks. read more

If American Mexican food is your thing, then Jose Peppers may be just your kind of place. For me? This reminded me of the old Chi-Chis chain where the chips are pretty good, but everything else is just okay. But I suspect if you drink enough of their giant margaritas, you won't even care so give it a shot! In all fairness, the guacamole was pretty good. And my taco dinner was okay too. I guess I just prefer real Mexican food but the place was hopping on this Friday night and there was a line to get a seat so clearly this is a popular spot for the locals. The best Mexican food I've ever had was in Topeka Kansas! The waitress was awesome, she looked nervous when she saw the 8 of us show up and was attentive and smooth in the end. The food was just amazing, juicy, cheesy, cooked too perfection on every plate. I wish I'd got a picture of the guacamole but we ate two bowls too quickly. Far cry from the Wichita location(west side). Service was lousy. Total of maybe 20 people in here(customers). Took forever to get my ice tea. Drink was always empty. Food was less then good.
