We ended up at Cracker Barrel because it was one of the only restaurants anywhere near our hotel, which is usually how Cracker Barrel happens. Not complaining though -- I've been to Cracker Barrel before and I genuinely love it. Comfort food, rocking chairs, and a gift shop you accidentally walk through every single time? Sign me up. If you have ever been to one, the place is very comforting, and reminds you of taking a wagon train out east. We placed our order and quickly realized our server was probably new. I actually admire anyone jumping into the trenches and figuring things out on the fly, because we've all been there. Unfortunately, he didn't seem to have much backup, and things started slipping through the cracks. A few forgotten items here, a missing thing there -- nothing malicious, just very clearly a learning curve in progress. I do give him credit for the effort and staying polite throughout. When the food finally came out, it was the usual Cracker Barrel situation: portions large enough to feed a small family. We ordered a variety of items -- baked potato, side of broccoli, a NY steak, and I went with the pot roast skillet. Flavor-wise, the skillet was good, but wow... it leaned hard into the salt. Like, one more sprinkle and we'd be in ocean territory. That said, the pecan skillet completely redeemed the experience. Absolutely delicious. Sweet, comforting, and exactly what you want when you're eating at a place known for comfort food. Overall, classic Cracker Barrel vibes: big portions, familiar flavors, a bit of chaos, and at least one dish that makes you glad you stopped. I'd still come back, maybe just with a glass of water ready for that pot roast. Oh and of course to the gift shop that has everything under the sun. Poor service by staff and manager. Was seated for an hour before food was finally brought to table. Only then to be told they were out of the hash brown casserole and I would need to order a new side. I asked for manager who came, but only excuse for the lateness was that they have been 30-40 minutes behind all night and blamed the waitress for not telling us. How about the people seating people let people know that the restaurant kitchen is 30-40 minutes behind on delivering food? Manager didn't stick around to answer my other questions, must have been too much of an inconvenience to deal with customers. Even as the restaurant was thinning out with no new customers coming in, they still couldn't catch up with order. I went to the Cracker Barrel in Jackson MI today for lunch. I had a truly discouraging experience. I'll lay out the reasons why..... 1. Our waitress (Arianna T) didn't so much as smile at us nor give us her name. She barely greeted us. She never checked on us a single time but to give us our tab. 2. I ordered a watermelon lemonade and could not drink it because it had a chemical taste to it. When I asked Arianna to exchange it for regular tea it took her at least 15 minutes to bring me the regular tea and when she did she placed the new tea on the table without saying a single word and she didn't take the lemonade away. What waitress would do that? Common sense girl...common sense. 3. We ordered a cheeseburger (medium) and got a hockey puck hamburger patty, 4. We ordered a hamburger steak, turnip greens and mashed potatoes. The hamburger patty was under seasoned. The turnip greens were fibrous and way over seasoned and the mashed potatoes were cold and actually hard. I had a single cornbread for lunch. I spoke with the manager (Mark) who, although he apologized, didn't make any offer to amend the fact that I simply did not eat my $20.31 meal. I spoke with the cashier and, although very nice, didn't make any offer to amend either. We will not be returning. I think that the cook needs to get a refresher course in cooking, the waitress needs to be taught how to service customers seated and in her care and the manager needs to learn business etiquette when dealing with unhappy patrons. How difficult would it have been to get us a gift certificate for $20.00 for a future visit? We didn't go there for a freebie and we didn't get one! We went there for a nice little mid-day meal and we didn't get good food. We didn't get a nice ambiance. We didn't get a manager that appeared to care about his boss's store. We didn't get a cashier who appeared to care about her boss's store and finally we didn't get to eat! So yeah, we went home hungry. Ordering online was super easy. I even received a call that my food was done and there was only one order they were finishing up. What I didn't expect was cool food. My country fried steak with gravy was rubbery, but that's due to the meat, my greens were sweet for some odd reason, my potatoes were cold, but good. Alright, so. I'm dining at cracker barrel today and I'll be rating on 4 things. Service, food, waits, and environment. I will start at 5 stars and go from there. We arrived and got seated within 5 minutes. 15 minutes pass and we finally get the food, I ordered the Momma's breakfast with bacon and hash browns. I also got water, water came with no ice. -1 star. Don't even get me started on the syrup OMG!!! Syrup is amazing, I even stole some! +1 star. The waiters were nice and kept checking on us every 3 minutes. The environment was pretty loud, I don't blame this on the restaurant though. The food was good, last time I was here their bacon was very soft. They upgraded by making it more crunchy and flavorful. The pancakes came out just right and had so much butter. Easy to cut. I was excited for the hash browns but they came out hard ontop and really soft at the bottom and tasted bad. -1. I love Cracker Barrel. Especially, the pecan pancakes. Whenever I visit Jackson Michigan, I eat at Cracker Barrel almost every day. The problem is that the quality of this particular store in Jackson is below normal standards for quality and cleanliness. Before I eat when dining in, I visit the ladies room to wash my hands. Why is it that EVERY TIME I go into the ladies room it smells like urine? Most of the time I order my food online and take it home to eat. There is no need for me to visit the ladies room. But on the occasions that I eat inside of the restaurant, I have to visit the ladies room to wash my hands. And EVERY TIME it has a strong urine smell. So, today I went to pick up an order. When I returned home to eat, the meatloaf looked less than appetizing. It was such a turn off. The only reason I'm giving this a two star is because the fried okra and the green beans were good. Excellent customer service, they will make sure to help you with whatever you've got. However, the food does take a while to produce, so if you are in a hurry, I wouldn't come here. And they are always incredibly busy, typically on Fridays (that's the only day I really go there). But over all, I would come here again, without any hesitation. read more

WOW, is all I can start this with. I've never eaten at this restaurant chain before, but wow am I glad I finally did. The store attached to the restaurant is super cute, and they sell alot of really rare/unique candy (if you're into that like I am). I ordered the fried chicken and I am oh so happy I did. It was some of the best I've ever had. The meat was so juicy and the skin was fried to a perfect crisp. The coleslaw was also some of the best I've ever had. Overall, I loved the food here and the price was extremely reasonable. Very generous portions too. Will definitely be coming back!! read more

Wonderful service, I had Mylo as my server. He was quick and heard everybody's order very well. He was very kind and made sure everybody got their orders perfectly. He may be new here but he has great potential. This server deserves a raise in my opinion. Certainly requesting him next time I come here. Now the food looks as great as it tastes, in a positive way. The menu has a very wide variety of dishes to try. The restaurant is very hospitable and truly feels like you are in a nineteenth century restaurant. It's very warm, homey, and old-fashioned. While traveling I had a craving for some country breakfast so I stopped by this Cracker Barrel location. The wait was about 15 minutes to seat one. I ordered the country boy breakfast with sausage patties, hash town casserole, grits, and scrambled eggs with cheese. Everything was decent, although the hash brown casserole wasn't my favorite. The biscuits and gravy were amazing! I only wish they brought butter and preserves out with it, but I had to ask. Overall, it was a decent pit stop along my road trip. read more

Where to start? The biscuits were the freshest I've ever had at Cracker Barrel. And that's about the only good thing I can say... we were seated at our table for a long before anyone ever came to even get a drink order.... My husbands steak was cold... I needed a refill basically before my food even got there and halfway through the meal the server came back, I asked for a refill and ketchup.... She took my glass and never came back... she kept coming out and helping other people... we caught her attention finally and asked again. For refills and ketchup. Meanwhile a manager came by... we asked her for refills and ketchup and my husband told her his food wasn't good. Finally we got our refills and had to ask again for ketchup. It was probably a 15 minute process to get refills. Our server took a stack of our dirty dishes and despite having a tray full of dirty dishes leaned over to the table behind us, dropped a cup of gravy on the floor which splashed all over my leggings and jacket ... in the end we didn't even get a discount on the food for the terrible service and food. Were crackers previously stored in barrels? I've been wondering, after stopping at a few Crack Barrel restaurants on a recent road trip. I don't think I can say much different on the reviews of two different Cracker Barrels we visited last weekend. I always get the country dinner with the grilled chicken tenderloin, corn, and mashed potatoes with no gravy. I wish they had Cherry Coke, but since it's just one meal, I can make it through with Dr. Pepper. My mom, my sister and I stopped here on the way back from the airport last night. Upon arrival, the hostess ignored us for several minutes while seating other parties who had been waiting. After a few moments I informed her that we hadn't put our names down yet. She informed me that she was busy seating tables and would be with us when she could. Not the greatest customer service, but ok. We end up getting a table and sitting down. We all ordered the featured Berry Iced Tea and were informed that they were out of it. We asked for regular iced tea with lemon instead and were informed that they were out of lemons (?) Finally we asked for plain iced tea which by some miracle, they weren't out of. We wait quite some time for our drinks, the waitress brings them over and takes our order. We order our food and my mom had already sipped almost half of her iced tea asked for another one. We waited almost 10 minutes for the waitress to acknowledge us again, at which point I asked for the iced tea refill and she said "oh". She comes back with a basket of biscuits (still no iced tea) and walks away so quickly I don't have time to ask for another drink for myself OR the plates that we need to eat the biscuits. We ended up eating them off of our napkins. Our food finally arrives (we ordered the southern fried chicken) and we enjoyed it (except for the side of macaroni and cheese that was basically pasta in a watery powder cheese sauce). Fast forward to last night, we were all extremely ill. My sister and I spent the majority of the night throwing up. So not only did we experience horrible service but it appears we also got food poisoning. Everything on the surface makes you think this is a regular Cracker Barrel except the food. The store, decor and store front all looks the same and i expect everything to be the same. I've been going to Cracker Barrel for decades and there is one a couple miles from my house. It isn't the healthiest place to eat but usually the food and service is good, predictable. I couldn't understand what was different but after leaving I understood the food here was just above a frozen dinner. The only thing that was I expected was the eggs. The country steak literally looked like one you would get from a frozen dinner. Probably a good one like Marie calendars not banquet or hungry man. The hash brown casserole wasn't as flat as I expected. The biscuits, gravy and grits were good though. I told my server that I've eaten at Cracker Barrel numerous times and there is so metering with the food. Her response was I'm sorry, would you like dessert? They need training on how to deal with these issues. They seemed more concerned with going home as it was near closing. I'm guessing most of the food is sourced from the same vendors but not all and how they were prepared is definitely off. So my opinion is don't go to Cracker Barrel outside of the south. I came here expecting southern food but it was more like a northerners interpretation of southern cooking. Very disappointing. read more

When you first walk in, you're greeted with cute kitschy country market stuff, which happens to be very Christmasy this time of year, and then as you walk into the restaurant side you walk past the Biggest rotating fireplace to warm you right up! I love the ambiance. Also, I love chicken fries steak and biscuits and gravy! Get me some of that southern goodness. Mmm :) What a happy place. read more
