I've love to say that we had dinner or breakfast today at this Cracker Barrel but it came at the very end of our day and we were back and on our way before they even opened. That's weird, right? Cracker Barrel supports the RV lifestyle and allows RVers to quietly use their parking lots for overnight parking with the polite but unspoken request that if you're having a meal in the area that you have it with them. We'd already had dinner back in Denton but we've hit up plenty of CB meals along the trip so I figure we're okay. The store is clean, the parking lot is tidy and yes, I did pick up two of their candy lemon sticks for the road. I tried to resist but couldn't. We had a decent night sleep here in the campervan and were on our way at around 6:30am before they opened. Next time, breakfast for sure! So it is almost tradition for me and my grandchildren when I come visit them in Gainesville to take them to the Cracker Barrel. Today we ordered chicken dumplings, New York steak and a shrimp dinner. Our appetizer was the cheddar balls. First of all the cheddar balls come, and we're still frozen in the middle. I was able to send them back about the time our food arrived. Then we had a big black hair on the New York steak. Mind you the grandchild ordered the steak has blonde hair and it was contained in a braid. The final strike was the hair on the mac & cheese that came with the chicken dumplings. I walked out. I will not be back. Mind you I do not often leave a negative review like this. I was horrified. And..... they were out of Coke. Can you imagine that they serve Coke products and they were out of Coke in midday? read more

Haven't been to a Cracker Barrel in a long while and of course decided to go on Mother's Day, bad idea. Despite it being Mother's Day though we were seated quickly and service was great. Food came out hot and quick and it was delicious. I forgot that Cracker Barrel doesn't really season there eggs and stuff but once i remembered the readily available salt n pepper shakers came in handy. read more

As soon as you walk in, you're greeted with an old country store feel. Once you put your name on the list, you're then able to sit down. While waiting for the waitress, we asked for two cups of coffee along with Sweet'N Low and creamer. The coffee arrived, but the Sweet'N Low and creamer took a very long time to come out. We finally placed our food order, and once again there was a long wait -- this time for my biscuits and gravy. This is our second visit, and unfortunately both times the service has been very poor. The food itself was hot and tasted good, but the servers definitely need more training to get the basics right and improve the overall experience. read more

Jake and Arielle Deserve Recognition Jake was amazing. I ended up sending back every item--completely my own fault--and his attitude remained incredible throughout. He was patient, professional, and kind. Arielle was outstanding as well. Just as I was checking out, a severe storm rolled in. I had no umbrella and was staying at a nearby hotel, so I had to walk. Without hesitation, Arielle offered me her personal umbrella and told me she just wanted me to be safe. When I offered to give her something in return, she simply said, "No--just pay it forward." That kind of kindness is rare, and it speaks volumes about the culture and leadership at this business. Management is clearly doing something right to have such amazing staff. This is one of the worst restaurant experience I ever had. They forgot almost all of our sides, the meatloaf was raw, and they decided to not tell us that they were low on chicken and dumplings, so most of us had no chicken and dumplings. The food was good so it went to two stars. read more

Very friendly, clean and fast even if I was one of the first in the door this morning. The fire is going on this cold rainy day in Gainesville Texas. We were up from Temple , Texas and stopped in at this Cracker Barrel for dinner. Our server was "new" and seemed nervous but did a fantastic job. "Sierra C" did a flawless job from start to finish. She's a great representation of your restaurant. Sweet, professional and detail oriented all at the same time. In fact, my 86 year old dad was with us... he remembers all good or bad service and can recount the stories. He commented that he had the best meal and service he's "ever had at a Cracker Barrel." We stopped here after staying at the WinStar Casino . They said there would be a 25min wait which ended up being 45min but by that time we were too hungry to go wait somewhere else so we stayed and looked around the country store. There's all kinds of cool stuff to buy and it's tempting to get a lot of it lol.. Unreal. My friend is puking her guts out after one bite of grossly slimy undercooked fish. My sister's mashed potatoes were also slimy. How do potatoes get slimy?? The manager was nice and replaced their food but they were both already feeling uneasy. Highly recommend not eating at this location. read more

Food is consistent but service (wait time to get your food) is extremely slow in comparison to other locations. If you have been to one Cracker Barrel, then you can say you have been to them all. I have to hand it to them, they are consistent. Nothing really changes at CB no matter what state or what decade. There is something comforting in that, I suppose. This particular visit I had the eggs in a nest with their famous hash brown casserole. Familiar breakfast comfort food that hit the spot. The overpowering smell of potpourri in the country store is way too much for my senses but you can't enter the restaurant without walking through the store. Sandra was an amazing server! She was one of the friendliest people I've met; our family felt welcomed and thankful to have her hosting our table. She thanked us several times for coming and provided recommendations on the daily specials and new menu items. Others (the manager I assume) came to thank us for stopping by. The food was great and fresh. There was only one drawback and it was that half of our table received their food and the other half had to wait about 5 minutes. That's a long 5 minutes when your hungry sitting across from someone eating. Nonetheless, not enough to take it down to 4 stars-- but that is because Sandra was a star! Great job! We walked in during the middle of a group of 42 people that came in on a bus and they sat all 42 people in small groups when they could have sat us and another group of 2 that was also put on hold before sitting us a group 2 and then told us it would be at least a 20 minute wait. I have never seen an establishment that has made the small party wait before a group of that size. Very poor management on their part. read more

I had a horrible experience! We went there and it took almost 10 minutes for them to sit us down. There was employee looking right at us wait and just kept walking by. Horrible experience, food order was all messed up our server was horrible. Our water cups were empty more then half the time, no plates were taken we had to ask them, we asked for water she would ignore us and walk away. People were rude. 10/10 don't recommend. Cracker Barrel is not the great food restaurant it used to be. We visited the Gainesville, TX location last night and will not be back. The restaurant was not busy, but it took a while for the waitress to come over and get our drink order. After completing our order, I asked for ketchup and pepper sauce. The waitress finally brought our food but let us know they were out of two of the items. That is not a big deal, we understand, but the food we did get was not good. It took me having to ask at least three more times for ketchup, pepper sauce, and even napkins. I ordered fried chicken. (fried like a chicken fried chicken) The grease needed to be changed as it tasted like fish had been fried in it. It was hard and dry. The greens were very salty, and the replacement hashbrown casserole was cold. You could tell the management does not care about the quality of their work and is just trying to make it through to closing time. It's a shame as another great chain starts to see a decline and will eventually go away. The tables were mostly vacant, but the floor felt and looked dirty. read more

I gotta admit, this location does it right. The staff is friendly at every Cracker Barrel, but some of the locations have issues with the quality of the food. This location was great. From the time I walked in, I was welcomed and treated with respect. The waitress was super friendly, and the food arrived quickly. My glass was never empty, and we were checked on constantly. This was the worst experience we have had in a restaurant in a very long time. We got there at 11:20am got seated right away and order was taken quickly. I ordered an overpriced mocha and it was cold when she brought it. My husband got a regular coffee we waited an hour and never got a refill. Food came out 45 minutes later and the supervisor brought it out and the warmest thing on the table was the plates. Nothing was hot. The gravy for the biscuits was so cold it had a film over the top of it. The pancakes weren't even warm enough to melt the butter. Everything on the table was cold. We were not going to eat this and get sick. That is the perfect storm for food poisoning. We told the waitress everything was cold and she told us to hold on. The manager came casually walking over and asked oh it's cold with a smile on her face. No apology. Just asked if we wanted them to remake it. Um, no thank you. We said we would just take the check and she brought out a receipt for a mocha which I could not drink and a regular coffee that my husband got one cup of in the whole hour we were there. That is pretty poor customer service. They seemed perfectly fine with letting us leave with that experience. So we wasted an hour of our day and left hungry and disappointed. read more
