I really like CB for a good breakfast meal. I still think the Original Pancake House trumps them...They are in a league of their own but the CB does provide good quality and breakfast for a excellent price. You can feed a family of 5 and everyone be full for a great price. Being someone who doesn't eat pork and this being a breakfast country restaurant, I am very pleased that they have turkey products like bacon and sausage. The menu is very large as they have two, one for breakfast and the other for lunch/dinner. Service has always been good when I've dined there and the staff has good knowledge of the menu. I reserve 4 and 5 stars for upscale and gourmet restaurants but is give the CB a solid 3 stars. read more

Not one of my regular spots, but I've been here a few times for breakfast. My past experiences were pretty good. Today's was just ok. My wife had been craving country fried steak, and it's one of the few things she doesnt normally make, so I told her I would bring her some. I figured Cracker Barrel might be a step above, say Perkins. I got two orders to go. It took a while to get someone to take my order, even though they didnt seem busy. They would not allow any substitutions on takeout (when you eat in you are allowed to make changes to your order). After that the service was great-- the food didnt take long, and they were very polite in ringing me up. We dont live far from the restaurant, it was maybe a 5 minute drive bringing the food home. The eggs were cold, but held up ok, surprisingly. The hash brown casserole might be the best reason to go to Cracker Barrel. It's always on point. Cheesy hash browns at their best. Sadly, the country fried steak did NOT hold up well. It was a soggy mush by the time we got home. My wife suggested, maybe next time we should ask for the gravy on the side. Standing in line for about 15 minutes nobody at the checkin counter. Finally a young lady shows up and starts taking names and number of guest. Looking in the restaurant, I'd say about half capacity. Lots of tables available. Another 10 minutes and I'm seated. Again half empty room. Looks like 3 serves in my area. Nobody approached me for another 10 minutes. Finally 1 of the servers told me someone would be with me offered a drink while I waited. Coffee was fresh and hot, good taste. Another game goes by(I'm on my iPhone) and still no service, about 10 to 15 minutes go by and the same server returns and said she would take care of me. Something about table changes and servers not happy with their assigned areas. Food came out in a timely manner. Everything tastes good. Server was very attentive and very polite. She made the difference in my rating from a 3 to 4 stars. read more

Went for fish fry last friday night. It was cod. It came with frys and coleslaw. It was very good and the portion was large. You also got a choice of biscuits or corn bread 1 of each or 2 of the same. The best biscuits I've ever had! The tarter sauce tasted homemade and was really good. Our waitress was super nice. She was so busy but was calm and gracious. We waited longer than usual for our food but noticed she had several tables and 2 large groups and she never ignored us. Kept our drinks full and food came out hot. If she felt rushed she didn't show it, thats a professional! Went there about 6 months ago for breakfast and it was very good. Came with grits and biscuits and gravy. First time for biscuits and gravy omg so good. Will definitely be going back. read more

I've visited this location twice in the past few weeks, and both times were quite pleasant experiences. The first was a visit with a coworker. This Cracker Barrel is very close to work, so it was an easy option to try out. We were both pleased with our meals, and the amount of food. You get surprisingly large meals for surprisingly small fare. I ordered breakfast - I don't think I have ever ordered anything other than breakfast at a Cracker Barrel. It was delicious. She ordered a burger and she said it was very good. We came back a week or so later with a larger work group. We were seated quickly and even though our group was larger, the food still did not take all that long to come out and everything was great! The gift shop is always fun to peruse as well. They have a selection of foods and candy that you just can't find anywhere else. Herr's brand sweet corn flavored popcorn, and Herr's brand grilled cheese and tomato soup cheese curls. These items alone are worth the trip. TRY THEM next time you stop in here. read more

If you're looking for consistency in your breakfast experience, this is the place! I have always had a good experience at this location, and the meals have been prepared well. I'm writing this review because more recently my coworker had me as a Secret Santa this year and noted that they have an exceptional peacock themed section to the gift shop. Peacocks are my jam! The manager Corky was very active visiting tables and very impressively managing. This is very unusual at most Cracker Barrel Units. My chicken tenders were perfect. The server was just ok. She forgot the straw and never offered a refill on my drink. Also forgot one of my side items. I was also amused by the hostess- The entire restaurant had 10 tables occupied. She spent an inordinate amount of time staring at the I -pad system of where I should be seated. read more

Driving through WI before flying out of O'Hare and we decided to stop in at The Cracker Barrel. We don't have any in Alaska, so naturally I always jump at the opportunity for Cracker Barrel and Chik-Fil-A whenever I come to the lower 48. Despite the poor reviews, we gave it a try, on a Sunday no less. Some reviews proved true to me, some not so much. The Good: The food was (always is!) great. Plenty of good quality food for a minimal price. The service was great as well. The Bad: I think the store is mismanaged. We waited over 30 minutes, allowing me just enough time to wonder across and pay for the last pack of 2x .5lb Reeses Peanut Butter Cups (thanks, Cracker Barrel for feeding my obsession). When we walked into the seating area, there were NO LESS THAN 20 open tables. I thought to myself "why would we have to wait so long for a table when there are so many open?" The answer is that they are either mismanaging their employees or simply cannot fill wait vacancies at their restaurant. My hunch is the former. Still, we trucked along, ordered our food, got our food, ate, paid and left. The last 30 minute of our experience were right on par with every other Cracker Barrel experience I've had - very good. The only "ding" on this review was for the wait and realization that there was plenty of open seating without the wait staff to support it. read more

We stopped along this CB on our way back home to Chicago from Minnesota area. There are not any CB's in our area, so it's always nice to get some good southern comfort breakfast food, even if you're eating it for dinner. We love getting the country fried steak and grits. I have to say I was disappointed as he** with this joint. it was my first time here, and I was really looking forward to it, until I wasn't... We arrived late afternoon, and despite the place being fairly dead, service from our waitress was AWFUL! She came around after a good 10 minutes of us being seated, and didn't bring our drinks until another 10 minutes passed. We then waited another 10 minutes for her to come back around, to take our food order. HALF AN HR just to get settled on the two basics of food service; drinks and put in the order. Time was not the issue here, the service was. Instead of correcting herself and showing the least bit of manner let alone maturity throughout our visit, She was too busy apologizing for "not being perfect" and blaming her "12 hr shift" for her selective mess ups, and making excuses for her terrible customer service. I can empathize with being swamped and exhausted, but there was none of that when we arrived. At one point, I overheard her co- worker scream to her across the room to "stop being cute and get to work!", to which I just chuckled and shook my head in disbelief. After realizing she couldn't take any responsibility for her lack of attentiveness, service, nor have any semblance of professionalism, I just chalked it up to a personality/behavior issue. And after putting up with her antics of "forgetting" most everything we asked for/needed including the basics (straws, napkins, ect)....I wrote off her clown show as incompetence and ignorance. Nevermind that she actually verbally acknowledged her repeated eff ups to us, yet still kept doing it. It wasn't until her manager stepped in towards the end, when she decided to put her big girl pants on. To top it off, my food was terrible aside from the fried chicken. Biscuits arrived cold and late (go figure)...soda was wrong (diet, instead of regular coke)...brussel sprouts salad, had zero flavor...and the cheesy hash was nill. Suffice to say, I wasn't surprised at the quality (or lack of) our food, after having one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a very long time. I don't recommend this joint, which is a shame. I think, had we gotten a mature waitress who could exude the least bit of maturity and tact, it would've been a good experience. I witnessed the other waitresses around us, who seemed to do well with their sections, and remain attentive to their job and visitors without making excuses for their poor behavior and presentation. Understand, I'm forgiving having been in the service industry myself. But this girl was clearly on a whole other level of 'give no effs' about her job, much less the business/owners she's supposed to represent. Apparently I'm not alone here though in my complaints, when I see others who've had similar experience below. Shame. read more

Food was ok as usual but the service was abhorrent. Had to reorder 3 times with the same waitress because "she forgot to write it down" and when the food came it was not correct. The meal for my daughter was completely missing (never received or was told why it wasn't made. Actually had to ask to have it removed when the check came) and the corrections to the orders at the table where left with a drop and go. One of the worst operations I've seen in giving people false times for wait. They give everyone a 20 min estimate and they were all significantly over, 50 min for our party. I absolutely love Cracker Barrel. I'm from the south, born and raised, so going here really takes me home and gives me an exciting sense of nostalgia. I love the cute gift shop they have. Most of the stuff in it is overpriced but you can find really cheap confections, such as the stick candy, which I always like to stock up on when I go there because they're only 10 cents each, and they have lots of nice gifts to use for birthdays or Christmas. I like to go here on Fridays for the fish fry because their cod is really good and it's very cheap. Most importantly, the staff is very friendly and always gives me that southern sense of hospitality without being overbearing like lots of waiters are. My only complaint is that the sweet tea is not sweet enough, and they're always super crowded in the mornings. read more

Food was horrible. Service was mediocre. Atmosphere was alright. My boyfriend dragged me here since we were on the road and needed some food to get us through the long trip. You enter into a little country store that was cute but over priced. Then we went into the restaurant part. Service was super slow even though half the tables were empty. Took forever to get water. Our food took about 45 min and tasted like crap. I got bbq chicken with broccoli and a sweet potato. The chicken was lacking in flavor and moisture. The sweet potato was more like a cup of brown sugar with a bit of potato. Disgusting. The broccoli was good at least and the only thing I actually ate. I won't be going back. First off- as an 11-year Madison resident, I ate at Cracker Barrel for the very first time (here) last weekend. We met friends from out of town, and overall it was pretty good. The staff had no problem pulling together two tables for the 7 of us, and service was both prompt and correct. CB serves breakfast all day, and what a breakfast it is! Portions were fair, not huge, and the price was right. Bacon, eggs, biscuits and grits- yum. My only gripe was that the sausage gravy was gelatinous and plopped out of the bowl instead of pouring. That was kind of gross. CB clearly caters to insterstate travelers, and it does this well. You can also find some interesting items in their huge "country store", from cutesy mugs and figurines to sweatshirts for Gramps and Easter dresses for the young'uns. read more

After several hours stuck in a car on the highway, we decided to stop for some fuel and food. Made the mistake of trying this location instead of stopping in Rockford like we should have. We were sat at a table and introduced to our waitress promptly. That's when everything started to get bad. Kayla was our waitress, she asked us for our order approximately 1min after we were seated. One of our friends hasn't been to a cracker barrel, so we offered our drink order and asked for just one moment to review the menu. Figuring by the time we got our drinks we would be ready to place our breakfast order.... Soooo, we waited.. and waited... 27 minutes and we still never got our drinks. We watched and waited while she walked past our table several times to tend to other people. Like she had blinders on to our table. The place was barley at half capacity, mind you. On 7/31 we took friends to eat at Cracker Barrel near East Towne Mall in Madison. Asked for sunny side up eggs, got scrambled. They reordered the eggs and got hard fried eggs. The special French toast strawberry cream cheese special was terrible. Maybe 8 half strawberries and a bland cream cheese mix on French toast. Cracker Barrel is my favorite restaurant, but this was more of an average experience for me. Our waitress was clearly in training, as at some points she seemed unsure of what she was doing, and she didn't check on us as much as I would have liked. One person in my party also asked to have their food separated, and it all came on the same plate, making them unsatisfied, although she enjoyed the food itself. The biscuits and cornbread were very good, even if they weren't warm or soft. I paid $8 for four pieces of french toast with cinnamon apples, with bacon and eggs on the side, though, so I was happy with my meal. read more

We arrived fifteen minutes before they closed and you would never know it. I ordered blueberry pancakes and sausage. They were amazing! Not only did they contain a bounty of fruit but they also came with blueberry syrup that contained a number of fresh strawberries. My family had the fried chicken, mashed potatoes and green beans. They said it was all delicious. They didn't rush us and our young woman air reds was delightful and efficient. I would recommend this Cracker Barrel with no reservations. If it wasn't for the amazing manager at this location I'd give this Cracker Barrel one star. Our waitress was extremely slow and never checked on us during our meal. I ordered a lemonade and she asked if I wanted any strawberries in it, so I said yes, not knowing she would charge me $3 extra for a few strawberries at the bottom of a glass of $2.79 lemonade. The manager was extremely friendly when he brought us our food and he even took the $3 fruit charge off our bill. He seems to work very hard for the restaurant and to make customers happy. My cousins and I came in this morning for breakfast on our way to the Waterpark. The manager stopped by our table and asked us how everything was. We told him everything was amazing and our server Mike was such a good server. While we ordered, he gave us a ton of options on meals and his opinion on how to go about ordering. We told him our little cousin is celebrating remission & the manager and Mike congratulated her and gave her a piece of cake.
