I am from the original West of the USA, so my bar on Mexican food might be higher than the average seniorita. Don't think by me giving this establishment a 3 that I will not be back. 3 means "the ambiance is genuinely hispanic, the tacos were great, the nachos were not so great, but we will be back to give something else on their menu aa try to truely decide." Coyote Bar screams the ambiance of mexican food. Downstairs is more of the bar scene and upstairs is a quiter option for table dining. We sat upstairs. From decor to music, it feels like a hispanic joint...for being a hispanic joint in a Chinese country! Service was quick and staff was friendly. They have an abundance of Margharita options...like 2 full pages of them. So if tequila and margharitas are your thing, this might be your place. I had a Cubre Libre instead and it was a pretty generous booze pour and glass size. We shared nachos and fish tacos. Fish tacos were fantastic...warm, great fish, light batter, good sauce, sweet and salty...they were really delicious. The nachos fell a little flat for us. It was the chip. Nachos are all about the foundational tortilla chip! The toppings were good, but it appeared that once the nachos are made, they must pop them in the oven to melt cheese and meld all the ingredients together. Subsequently, when they do that, they suck the moisture out of the chip. The chips were limp, thin and a bit dry. If they fix the quality of the chip, these would be spectacular, they would survive being in the oven part better. A great nacho chip needs to be a touch salty and bit heartier. We will go back and try maybe the burritos and/or enchiladas. There was someone at the table next to ours that ordered a salad with shrimp on top and it looked really good. We live on the other side of Hong Kong, so this will not be a regular stop for us. But if you were seeking out Mexican food, this was as authentic as I have seen yet since moving here. read more

This might be One of Hong Kong's best "it is what it is" bar. If you've ever seen young inebriated partiers walking around Wan Chai with sombreros on a Friday night, you know they've been here. My experiences here have mainly been at lunch or happy hour, where chips, salsa and a few margaritas hit the spot. Get a table at the open window on the street to enjoy great people watching on Lockhart Road. If you do decide to eat here, don't expect Michelin Star cuisine, but like I said, it is what it is. But that's pretty good, especially if you enjoy cold drinks and excellent people watching. read more

I've never been a particular fan of the Mexican food in Hong Kong, but I was definitely pleasantly surprised with the food at Coyote. We were looking for some grub later in the evening and landed here when someone in the group suggested it. We ordered their Smoky Pulled Pork Nachos and Coyote Nachos. The pulled pork was juicy and tender with a very distinct smoked taste. There's a hearty serving of the meat on top of the crispy chips, beans, salsa, guac and sour cream. The Coyote Nachos had just about the same toppings but had chicken as the protein instead. Above all, I was surprised with how the chips stayed crispy and the portion sizes. The only thing that prevents me from giving it a 5-star rating is the price. It was $140 for each nachos. While tasty, this is near the top of the price I would pay for Mexican food. It could have been that my expectations were low for Coyote's food, but I definitely think I would come here again if I craved Mexican food read more

Located on Lockhart Road amongst "those" bars, is Coyote, a casual Mexican restaurant, which serves great food and margaritas. On stepping into this restaurant, you may feel this wannabe Coyote Ugly vibe, as is implied by the screens showing pictures of ex-pat banker types doing body shots off slim Filipino ladies. However, Piper Perabo is not going to be gyrating on the bar, in fact nobody does! It's basically a family restaurant that maybe gets a bit noisy at night. OK, sexy reputation debunked, let's talk food. Yummers! Yes, it's basically the South Western part of a TGI's menu, but what they do, they do well. Tasty Mexican delights like burritos, chimichangas, quesadillas, as well as mesquite grilled meats and fish. A typical dish will set you back around HKD170, but they are large and hearty. Even with my huge appetite, I don't tend to do anything more than one main course, skipping the starters and desserts. Lunchtime is a good time to visit. There are set meals for around HKD100, which have starters and desserts, and a more modestly sized main. It is good value, and quick for those gunning to get back to the office. If you come at lunchtime, downstairs is usually OK to sit. If you come at night for dinner, try to get a table upstairs, as the downstairs night crowd can be raucous, and if they do suddenly decide the bartop is a good place to dance, you are less likely to have someone stepping into your nachos. For those of you not eating, Coyote does a huge range of margaritas, including the infamous fishbowl, which is basically a really big drink. Sure, there are wines, beers and soft drinks, but here it is all about the tequila, arriba! Insider tip, don't forget to grab your free Coyote sombrero. Would not give this a 4/5 somewhere else but definitely the best Mexican I've had in Hong Kong so far. Crowded and messy (in a fun way) bar downstairs filled with expats and a more structured dining area upstairs. We shared chicken nachos which were served with melted cheese, black beans and guacamole. Tasted good. We shared a pitcher of margarita which also was actually quit okey if a bit too sweet. I had the beef fajitas which came with a side of salsa, sour cream, guacamole and tortilla. Yes yes, now I'm gonna complain about the bread again... But tortilla tastes bests when it's made of corn and this one was not. Also a bit thick. Otherwise really good fajitas actually. The meat was perfectly pink and flavored really well. read more

Eh. Expensive substandard Mexican fair. I asked them to substitute the guacamole with cheese dip for my son on the Taco about a party platter. The said no. They don't have a kids menu (I get this) but to not do something so simple is mind boggling. I'm sure they will do fine, but I've been to Mexico many times and this place could be a little better and understand that the customer should be made happy, especially with simple request. Food: We most recently lived in LA, so we were disappointed by the Mexican food available here in Hong Kong (Cali-Mex :( :(). Coyote has been a great find in our quest for decent, if fake-ish, Mexican food! Though kind of pricey, the half chicken is really delicious (well-seasoned, sometimes a bit dry) and I always enjoy both the chicken quesadilla and the fajitas. The guacamole is made from crushed avocados (not fake avocado paste), and the salsa is about as close to Tostitos brand salsa I've found here in Hong Kong - I mean that as the highest compliment. If you want real salsa, get the pico de gallo, as it's also quite good! Atmosphere/Service: We regularly eat delivery from Coyote, but have never dined in the restaurant. read more

I loved this bar. I had their Margaritas and variety of their Mojitos, which were really good in terms of alcohol and taste! I went there on Christmas Eve and they had a live fire show of drinks, which was so awesome!! Another note to add, the service at Coyote is very good, all the bartenders were very polite, even though it was a hectic night with customers being rude and abnoxious. read more

The other reviews cover the vibe of this place quite well, so I'll focus on the food which is really solid. Think proper Tex-Mex size portions that will leave you with a smile on your face and the need to loosen your belt one notch when you finish. Beef and chicken fajitas are stellar and served on a sizzling cast iron plate as they should be. The enchiladas are generously sized with plenty of rice and black beans on the side. And the margaritas... the margaritas are excellent. Whether you stick to the traditional mix or one of their many flavours, you won't go wrong. So given all this praise why not 5 stars? Price. Coyote has always been just that little bit more expensive than it should be for a meal. At happy hour you can get a good deal on those margaritas, but eating always hurts the wallet just a tiny bit. Have you ever been along Lockhart Road in Wanchai and seen bar goers sporting huge sombreros with the words 'Mexicans with Attitude' on them? Have you ever wondered where they get them? I have the answer for you - Coyote. Coyote is a Mexican bar and restaurant that comes alive at midnight, when every other person is wearing a sombrero and getting posey for a picture. I was there the other day with my friends - we had just gone to another bar and wanted to come to Coyote for their 'fishbowls'. If you aren't sure what that is, it's basically their special margarita that comes in different blends. The drink is presented in a fishbowl and is meant to be shared - I can't see how anyone can possibly take this on solo! It was only around eleven, but Coyote was bustling. We were a big group and they couldn't give us a table, so we decided to just buy the Fishbowl and pay for it first, and just stand around one of the empty tables for two and finish it among us. I was a little annoyed that we still had to pay their service charge as they weren't even able to give us a table. We got the 'Suzy Wong', which is mango and guava flavored. I was taken aback when I had my first sip - it was much stronger than I had imagined it to be! It looks deceivingly non-potent due to its bright coral color, but don't you even think for a second that it's nothing - because it's something, all right. It won't hit you now, but it'll hit you later! The mango and guava flavors were sweet, but well balanced out with the tequila. We shared it among ten of us but not all of us drank, so I would say that if everyone were to drink quite a bit, this would be good to share among six or seven people - or less, if you're more adventurous than I am (which is quite likely!) I can't review anything else here other than the Fishbowl, so I'm afraid this isn't a very comprehensive review. At $488 (not including service charge), it's an okay price when shared, especially because they don't skimp on the alcohol! read more

Finding Coyote Bar & Grill in Hong Kong was exactly what we needed on our 2 week trip in China/Hong Kong. After eating a ton of Chinese food, I was in need of western food of any kind. Walking in, the entire restaurant was filled with westerners from Europe/America and it was clear that everyone there was on the same page. The drinks/food was surprisingly great! Not as good as some Mexican spots we have in NYC, but for Hong Kong it's definitely an awesome option if you're craving something other than local food. Being from Southern California and not eating meat has made it hard to eat on this five day trip to Hong Kong. We ended up eating at a bunch of American chain restaurants. Finally on our last night I found this gem! We each got something different and all were overjoyed. The enchiladas suizas were delicious; the chicken was shredded white meat. The tacos were awesome and the steak burrito was enormous. They even have a Wall of Flames which houses over twenty different hot sauces from mild to insanely spicy.
