Come here for the drinks or for their attempt at Latin / Mexican bar food and bring some good company to boot. This is one of those places where a good time depends on who's drinking and who's not. The place has plenty of seating on the inside and quite a section for outdoor action. Folks can smoke and drink as they please outside with no problems. On the inside they have TVs galore, usually broadcasting Mexican soccer / futbol games. The staff is not pretentious and they have provided good service each time I'm here. Don't be nervous about trying to say the words on the menu, chances are the nearly app Nepalese staff might have trouble saying it too. Let's one thing straight: the "Mexican" food here is close to an abomination. Anyone coming here to get their fix of sopa tortilla or the next great mole poblano will be sorry they did. The bar is stacked with versions of bar friendly Mex, which includes nachos, quesadillas, and tacos. Most of the aforementioned is incredibly mediocre, but being that HK is not blessed with quality Mexican fare, the food at Tequila Jack's is hardly a surprise. Do however, indulge on their themed nights. On Saturday nights for example, is steak night for $108 each. It is a 10oz steak with some fixins like fries, veggies, and corn on the cob. I'm usually not terribly crazy about cheap steak but theirs is a slight exception. My steak has been cooked perfectly each time and the marbling / fat actually melts in your mouth. I have been here since the prices were $90 and the steak has been one of the only highlights food wise. On the drink front, they have a legit array of Mexican beers along with a stellar selection of tequila. It's probably the most abundant collection of tequila I've seen in the hood. The prices per shot aren't cheap ($140?) but if money doesn't matter as much the drunks are in their own league at TJ's. Lastly, if you're sitting outside at night: Watch out for our furry friends running around. They have caused quite a stir in the past. And *do not* feed them.

My coworkers and I have a tradition of coming here to spend our hard earned money on pricy food. On one occasion I simply ordered an appetizer: I tried steak tartare for the first time here, and became a fan. Being the opportunistic people that we are however, our main draw to this place are its daily special discounts. My first time dining here was on Wagyu Wednesday, an awesome discount for getting the Wagyu burger on a Wednesday. Mussels Monday (all-you-can-eat mussels of different flavors, on a Monday) is my most recent Frites endeavor. Be careful with mussels, especially if they're all-you-can-eat. In my childhood I had read about the dangers of eating bad mussels (mussels that don't open after cooking), but I mostly ignored them this time around and faced the repercussions the next day. It wasn't too bad for me, but I am taking a break from mussels for a bit. The Laksa Mussels were notably delicious. My coworker and I were particularly interested in the unlimited steak offer they had for the weekend, named "Strip Night". We wanted to challenge ourselves to getting our money's worth of meat, and possibly risked developing heart disease in the process, but in the end it was well worth the experience. As with any all-you-can-eat situation, the more food that we had already eaten, the less active the service staff were in trying to help us, i.e. they often stopped looking in our general direction, pretending to not see us. I understand their tactics: I am also always looking to save money, which is why I came to their all-you-can-eat deal nights. I still got what I wanted, as there is no time limit per se (except during the period of time in Hong Kong when dining-in was banned after 6PM). The steaks were delicious, and I was able to experiment with eating different cooking temperatures of steak. No more well done steaks for me!

They cater to locals and tourists, as well as the constantly growing expat population. So I was not one bit surprised when I saw a Belgian restaurant in the food section of Causeway Centre, across from the Wanchai Ferry Pier and next to the Sun Hung Kai Financial Building. It's a somewhat trendy place with an European ambience, and upon entering, I found that the language spoken by the receptionists and servers was English and not Chinese. (For those of you who have never been to HK or China, this means that your wallet will be emptied but your stomach will not be full.) Set lunches with their at best mediocre selections run about USD30, which is pretty steep even in the expensive financial districts in HK. If you want to order a la carte, items are around USD 30 - 40, although steak frites will set you back about $50. Bear in mind that this is not upscale as in Morton's or Ruth Chris. This is more like a Yard House kind of place. SCHNITZEL AND FRITES: It's a popular European dish which is a thin pork cutlet that is tenderized, coated with bread crumbs and deep fried. The bread crumb coating ewas light and crispy; the meat was tender, flavorful and yummy. The frites (fries in English) were less impressive though. There were literally numerous Belgian Fries stalls, carts, and kiosks wherever we went when we were in Brussels and we loved Belgian fries. The most distinct difference is that the potatoes are not soft and starchy, and they are fried twice. Sorry... but the fries here tasted nowhere near those in the streets of Brussels. THE GOOD WIFE SAUSAGE: It was an interesting looking sausage that was in the form of a coil. Although I've tried various sausages in Brussels, I never had the opportunity to taste this particular variation. It looked and tasted like a "Boudin" sausage which is typically made with pork and is lighter in color. I liked the texture and its taste; and if you are an European sausage fan, you'll probably like this. The gravy was tasty with a strong aroma of onion, but I was hoping for a rich gravy with an authentic Flemish dark beer flavor. The mash was good, but nothing to write home about, especially at these prices.

It appears to be residential or empty and it does feel a bit strange. The door man confirmed we were in the right spot and we took the elevators up to the 3rd floor. Hit the restroom you see when you get off the elevator if you need it, for although not a great restroom, it is the only one available to you. You continue to walk down the large, cement open hallways and think you are certainly in the wrong place, when at the end of the hallway you discover Artichoke Canteen. Open for about 3 years now and catering to many weddings, corporate events, fashion shows, birthday party dinners, large groups, art shows, etc, they do serve lunch and dinner. When we walked in, we felt like we had walked into someone's personal home and kitchen space in their funky urban warehouse loft. Very open, lots of light, extremely kind staff...it is a great, casual space. They have a great big outdoor patio as well. Big wooden farm tables, mis matched chairs and table vases, open window to see what is going on in the kitchen. The menu has a heavy vegetarian feel and Italian influences, but includes wood oven pizzas, pasta, salads, seafood and chicken. Everything is homemade, fresh, quality ingredients, made with care for serving healthy stuff. They have pea soup which is a specialty! We enjoyed their soup of the day, which was a fresh mushroom and potatoe. So delicious, absolutely fresh and tasted like the earth of where the mushrooms grew! We also shared the paella, made with saffrom that comes straight from Turkey. It was superb! Washed down with a freshly pressed 5 vegetable juice, we had a lovely little lunch at the Artichoke Cafe. The staff and owners could not have been more friendly, welcoming and gracious. We felt so welcome and comfortable in this little gem of a spot for our quiet little lunch. We will absolutley return every time we are over here shopping at Horizon Plaza.

I would rate Taco Chaca as just okay, the tacos are pretty pricey, particularly their specialty ones because it's literally just one taco-but not as overpriced at some other places. I've had them once or twice and they're pretty good. I wouldn't have given this place further thought, but lately their carnitas burrito has had me under its spell. The burritos here are pretty good for the price and filling. Pretty tasty as well, and while the carne asada is pretty good as well the pork is super tender and easier on the wallet.

The happy hours menu is off the chart - they had 27 different drinks including beer, wine, liquors, soju cocktails (and I'll explain why I know the count so precisely...). If you check in to Yelp you got a free popcorn chicken per table too, boom. Free stuff is always the best stuff, and the popcorn chicken was actually very good and we ended up ordering another dish. Now on a chill evening of the last day of the a long weekend, we shouldn't really be drinking too much. But then, when the first round of drinks arrived, we were kind of skeptical about the portion of soju actually added to the cocktails. We blamed that to the Appleju where the apple juice masking the taste of the alcohol. But when we ordered the Sparkling Citron and they were still kinda of more like mocktails than cocktails, we quite shamelessly asked the staff if they could put more soju/liquors in our next round of drinks. I know, it's only $38 after all... Back to the food. They were amazing. Kimichi fries was good, and from a person who actually doesn't like kimchi AT ALL, this compliment does carry a lot of weight. We tried also the spicy fried chicken wings (not spicy enough), the salt and pepper wings (VERY GOOD), cheesy kimchi sliders (good, and again from the mouth of someone who doesn't like kimchi). Three hours passed right in front of five of us, as if the time went quicker when you were sitting at the chillaxing front door table. The drinks got better (i.e. stronger) afterwards which was definitely a plus. One of our friends wanted to challenge to finish all the drinks on the happy hour menu but we only managed to go through the right half of it. But I wouldn't complain at all having 20 cocktails in total among five of us and still managed to get down to HKD$350 per person, including the food we had.

The highlights of the evening: CHICKEN WINGS! The wings are smothered full of flavor, cripsy, juicy and overall deliciousness. I just wish they had more of it! Check out Wings Monday which is only $5HKD per wing with every drink purchase. Bulgogi Sliders- also delicious. High in flavor and raw garlic and jalapenos make this tasty slider packed with a punch. I perfer even more heat with more chili, but that is easily solved by just asking for some extra jalapeno. Kimchi Grilled Cheese- so easy yet so satisfying. Grilled with two types of cheese and layered with kim chi, this really sings comfort food for me. You can add an assortment of things to the sandwich, including fried egg- perfect. I also got to try some of the special homemade Korean spicy sauce and Siracha mayo- delicious. The drinks- they have Soju infused cocktails that are sure to please. Chili Mango, Yuzu, Milkis are all quite unique. Want the whole bottle straight up? No problem- very reasonable in price. Soju not your thing? They have a regular wine, beer and cocktails list too. Chef tells me they will be having some cool happy hour deals too so stay tuned. Overall, love this small cozy space. I am a huge fan!

I ordered a greek salad with some smoked salmon. We also noshed on some sweet potato fries. We then for a $1 each, my husband had a latte and I enjoyed a glass of red wine. The fries were hot and really good. The grilled cheese was of ample size and super cheesy. The Greek salad was a touch too simple (needed a few more olives I think to punch it up), but evenly coated with dressing and fresh. The desert case is also packed full of great looking cakes, bars and cookies and worthy of a repeat trip (prices in the case range from $68-88). They advertise a special of like $98 for a glass of Prosecco and a dessert! It appeared some couples were wandering in to enjoy this just as we were leaving. Around 7PM when we arrived on a Friday, the place was not busy at all (which I know is bad for business, but preferred by us!). It was nice to sit with the open air on the first floor and simply enjoy our time. They have upstairs seating as well and it is closed in, the downstairs part is more open to the outside elements when the weather is nice. I walk by this place almost every day and the busy feeling of brunch on the weekend or packed lunch crowd during the week is different than the quieter evening vibe. We ordered: Marinated pear salad(Fresh pears marinated in clementine sauce with hearts of palm, togarashi and green leaves): This was actually quite refreshing and light. The pears went well with the clementine sauce and spicy togarashi. Portobello Skewers (With red bell pepper chimichurri sauce): The beefy flavor of the portabello went well with the chimichurri sauce. Beef Skewers (With farofa) : Beef was tender and farofa (cassava flour) sprinkled on the dish made for good dipping which enhanced the beef flavor. Jaba com jerimum (Brazilian jerk beef with pumpkin, butter fried onions and sweet peppers): I've always loved jerk beef and this was really good with the onions and sweet peppers. Coxinhas de frango (Deep fried dumplings filled with chicken and okra): Normally I'm not a fan of okra, sometimes it can be slimy but these went well with the chicken. Perfectly fried teardrop shapes of happiness. I also ordered their Paulista cocktail (Sake, Aperol, lychee and pink berries pepper shrub): It was refreshing and not too sweet. Brazilian Japanese Street food was a first-time cuisine experience for me, so I was excited to try out the different flavors. Their entire menu is for sharing, so we ordered a few appetizers and mains which included Ceviche Guayas ($175), Ceviche Nikkei ($175), Banana doce ($90), Porco crocante ($95), some skewers which included Octopus ($115), Beef ($115), Chicken ($95), Tuna ($115), and 2 large plates which included Robalo assado em folha de bananeira ($290), and Lombinho de porco ($250). We also ordered the Classic Caipirinha's ($95) for drinks. The drinks, food, and service were absolutely spot on. The food was very delicious with Tuna skewers being the most amazing, and the Lombinho de proco was out of this world. Our only issue with this place is that it's just too expensive. It cost us in excess of $2600 for that night... maybe that explained why the place was still not that busy when we left at around 9 pm.
