Thin and translucent to the point of being almost entirely transparent. The fried rice was simple but tasted great. The mapo tofu didn't have that Sichuan spicy zing to it. We, nevertheless, polished it all off. With jasmine tea on the side. Certainly a place to visit with groups, but they have little low seated tables too, if you want a date meal. Fairly quick service and I know I mentioned the language, but our server spoke English. I know I'll be visiting here again. More photos and detail on the blog - vegetarianvoyager[dot]com. Try a variety of their dim sum, hot pot and vegetable platters, because everything is tasty, organic and fresh. The first few pages of the menu show where everything is sourced from, so you know it's a priority. There are even a few desserts to round out the meal. The dining experience itself felt authentic as you can get for vegetarian Cantonese cuisine - the staff was attentive, service was efficient and the atmosphere was really pleasant. There were a few Buddhist monks having dinner there too, so that's another sure sign that you're in the right spot. Actually, this type of restaurants has been in existence in Hong Kong or China for hundreds of years if not more, it has a religious connection to most of these establishments as they usually are connected to a Temple or a Monastery that are either Buddhist or Taoist. Veggie Palace is categorized as a "private home kitchen" as it is officially not open to the public, all patrons has to reserve and will be contacted by them to go through menu selection. Prices are fixed, Lunch - HK$188.00 / Dinner - HK$268.00 per person Menu items are Omakase Style - as the Chef will decide what is best of the season and also according to personal taste. They will even keep a record of your past visits to make sure that the menu items you had perviously will not be repeated! Highlight items: Assorted Cold Appetizer as you can see from my photo, this has a variety of items, the centre is a mixed salad with julianne of cucumber, mushrooms, black fungus, and pomelo, it is then surrounded by veggie maki sushi roll, thousand year eggs, veggie ham etc. It is served with a light soy & vinegar based dressing, amazingly refreshing and tasty, I believe it is a signature starter that each table will get! And I am sure it will be requested even if they do not offer it in your next visit! The Mushroom & Vegetables Gyoza in Pumpkin Purée, savoury pumpkin surrounds this small package of amazing umami, the natural sweetness of the vegetables are brought to a new hight with the deep flavours of the mushrooms! Looks like a simple dish, but I am sure the Chef puts in a lot of thought and effort to make this a perfect dish!! As you can see, all the items are presented very well, and non of the dishes tasted the same! Contact them directly to make a reservation and discuss menu selection, and I am sure you will be a fan as well!!

We ordered 2 different Stone Bowl Rice set menu items. #2 with Eggplant and #4 with Lion's Head Mushroom (I believe called Lion's Mane Mushroom in the US) We liked both dishes including the accompanying Soup and appetizers. The Eggplant dish was savory without being greasy (Unlike most eggplant dishes cooked in a wok). The Lion's head Mushroom was very umami and had the texture and flavor of perfectly cooked beef cubes. Service was fast, friendly and efficient.

Wonderful Chinese vegetarian restaurant in Hong Kong!…read more I'm so glad I got to eat here before my flight home from HK. The restaurant in Wan Chai was a bit hard to find at first since Google Maps showed that we'd arrived at our destination, yet it was nowhere in sight -- luckily, we'd just walked past it so the location services must've been a bit inaccurate. When I came for dinner, it wasn't super packed yet, but my brother told me that it was extremely busy and they had to wait for a table when he went for lunch, so just keep that in mind if you have a tight schedule! Service was very straightforward and hassle-free. We ordered a fried rice, a soup, and their special buns with soy meat for two people. I've had my fair share of vegetarian Chinese food, and I can say wholeheartedly that the quality of the food here sits well on the better end! Not only was the flavor of the food quite good, it also didn't feel greasy or heavy. The customer demographic looked pretty diverse too, so I'd assume they can at least communicate with English-speakers. However, it can get a bit loud indoors! Overall our total came out to be around 250 HKD (if I remember correctly), so with tip I gave about 300 HKD. Super affordable, tasty option -- and I've heard that their lunch specials are even cheaper! The restaurant is also very close to the Ding Ding bus stop that took us back to the train we took from the airport, so it was quite convenient. Highly recommend if you're a vegetarian traveling in Hong Kong!

I chose pumpkin + some soy protein, celery + tofu stir fry, and a mushroom + lotus roots + more soft tofu variety stir fry. The rice was plenty. And this platter that I ended up selecting came with the standard basic watery soup with three pieces of chunky vegetables and a soybean or two. And almost always, this soup is left untouched by me. But, for HKD 50, this meal is a steal. A lot of people chose to order a-la-carte, which looked so much more appealing :p The celery tofu stir fry was simple - no frills, probably just salt and a touch of pepper. The mushroom, lotus roots and that soft tofu fried balls had some soy sauce, I'd guess. The tofu was very tender. And a simple and non-standout taste. What I didn't like was the texture of the pumpkins. Now, it's confirmed that I don't like this kind. It's probably Chinese. There's only a few vegetables I don't like and this might be one of them. I'm fond of other types of pumpkins, including the Indian kinds, but this one had a texture I didn't quite appreciate. The food was on the bland side, but requesting for some spicy sauce got me a gochujang kind of a sauce that I happily dipped into and ate my meal. Bean curd sheet wraps, veggie siu mai, nori rolls, you name them. Instead of actually going into the restaurant and have a proper meal, I am more inclined to just buying a few items from the take away section and walk as i eat. And this is pretty much a reflex to me to go and have a look at the display cabinet to see what looks good from these vegetarian restaurant. One of the must have items for me is the bean curd sheet wraps filled with mixed veggies inside. The sheet is most often chewy but it is supposed to be crisped up from the frying while the interior stays crunchy and light. However, probably due to the fact that they are made in huge batches, the wraps are very likely to be greasy both on the outside as well as the inside. I have a poor habit of taking a piece of tissue paper and remove the excess grease; not just patting on the surface, but also squeeze the lifeblood out of the roll to make sure there's no oil remain. It is always surprising to me that you need more than one to completely remove the grease; imagine what will happen when you eat all these altogether... I am not sure whether the excess grease is supposed to be part of the eating experience or it is just that I have not yet found the perfect roll yet; but still I am hopeful. Truth be told, the wrap of this joint tasted not bad after me trampling of it using multiple piece of tissue paper.

Relatively reasonably priced cocktails, plenty of vegetarian options and a chic space - the place was good. The drinks and the food, both impressive. The pomelo salad with lime leaf, banana blossom, cucumber and Vietnamese mint was nice and refreshing. The Vietnamese mint has something extra to it, that I quite like. The banana blossoms added that earthiness. Thai dry yellow curry of minced impossible meat with lemongrass was a hit. You could wrap that up in the lettuce cups they served, but I happily ate it without it (because coronavirus and I preferred not to use my hands). Saag burrata - the palak paneer or saag paneer, with burrata instead of paneer was very well executed. Pad thai tasted good, but could've been saucier, if I may. The red curry with pumpkin, tofu, long beans and okra hit the spot on taste and creaminess. The moong dal palak tadka - Indian lentils, while good weren't as great as I can prepare at home. (Yeah, modesty goes for a toss :p) The nasi goreng is hard to mess up and was decent. The only disappointment on the food was stir-fried okra. It didn't taste or look stir-fried and was very raw. If it were just the hubster and I, I would've probably have it re-done.  The drinks were refreshing and tasted well. I had one Hot Mama -gin, ginger, chili and homemade ginger beer with dried citrus fruit. This was followed by a Lemon Chilli Martini - vodka, limoncello, pink grapefruit and lemongrass syrup with chilli and again, dried citrus fruit.  The hubster had a Pineapple Kaffir Lime Margarita - tequila, triple sec, pineapple juice and kaffir lime leaves with a dried slice of pineapple.  After a quiet dinner, it was quite a task to get the children to wrap up and get home.  Pictures on the blog - thevegetarianvoyager

Veggie Sky's lunch operates differently from traditional restaurants. You fill out a paper circling which items you like. You then hand the paper to the cashier to pay. Then you take the same paper to the window to pick up your order. We were fortunate to encounter an English speaking waiter who walked us through the menu and the ordering process. Veggie Sky's lunch menu offers a choice of six side dishes which vary daily. You can choose a base of 3 sides for no additional charge, or pay $15 for each additional side. Each combo comes with a complimentary soup and unlimited brown rice (or sweet potato congee for $5 extra). You can also purchase an appetizer or dessert for another $15. However the basic lunch combo (3 sides, soup and rice) is a total of $60. The food is fairly decent, but Veggie Sky earns a full 5 stars for its specialty menu and customer service. You can't expect good customer service in Hong Kong, so this restaurant's exceptional customer service blew us away! Every staff was friendly and eager to explain and walk us through the ordering process. Also, they were genuinely interested to know if we liked the food. If you are looking for a healthy vegetarian lunch, this is the place! If you are looking for great customer service, THIS IS THE PLACE!
