A guy came out and gave me an estimate. He was supposed to call the next day to schedule the removal. He never called, even after I called him again to prod him. I finally checked Yelp and found Santos with his good reviews. He came out quickly, gave a fair estimate, said he could do it the next day. He arrived a little late with his truck and small crew but went right to work and did the whole job in just 3 hours. I had expected a lot of chainsaw noise but they did a lot of cutting with handsaws, using the power tools mostly to cut up and grind the wood. Very impressive work and a great personality. Friendly and straightforward and very professional.

Job - new sidewalk slabs (and 45 year-old cherry tree whose overgrown roots were causing sidewalk…read moreto crack and heave up) caused a need to: 1. Remove our old, but on its last legs, cherry tree 2. Grind the stump down to make way for the replacement (redbud) after sidewalk was demolished 3. Plant the new redbud we purchased directly, but Bartlett picked up for us from Gasper's and stored at its Bala location for the week or two before the concrete job was completed We knew Dave Miller, arborist, from years of his helping us maintain the old cherry. I can't commend (and thank) Dave enough for all the hand-holding he did (including educating us on how to coordinate with the concrete people) at every step of the way thru the process. It was the most neighbor-intrusive job we'd done in 25 years of living here and there were MANY unknowns. Dave did a great job in: 1. Providing us an estimate 2. Answering all our questions about the scope of the job and staging of the two contractors' various steps, over several sessions, always being candid and thorough as we talked thru it 3. He and his crew were v flexible in scheduling around the concrete people who were unable to pin down exact days to perform different stages of their job. 4. Bartlett worked with what, at times, were last-minute schedule requests by the sidewalk people. 5. After the 1-inch caliper tree was planted, Dave generously made himself available, again, for a few back-and-forths about best practices in caring for it. As for the crew who removed the tree, ground the stump and planted it: 1. I'm not sure how many separate people came out but they were all professional, efficient, customer-oriented and good guys. They thoroughly cleaned up at the end of each work day and the work on each stage appears to have been done expertly. Honestly, the entire Bartlett crew was excellent to work with and, not always the case, it felt like us as the client and Bartlett were both working with the same goals in mind. Very refreshing and v much appreciated!

Initially, they indicated they could come out on Saturday, July 4, but the estimate was ultimately confirmed for Sunday, July 5, between 11:00 am & 12:00 p.m. I was coordinating the appointment on behalf of a loved one. Because the property owner doesn't live at the affected house, they traveled from another part of the city and rearranged their schedule specifically to meet the estimator. We also learned that the neighboring property we initially believed the tree had fallen from is vacant, making it even more important to determine responsibility and move the process forward. Unfortunately, no one arrived for the scheduled appointment, and there was no phone call, text, or Yelp message to let us know they were running late or needed to reschedule. We understand that delays and emergencies happen, but a simple courtesy message would have been appreciated. The lack of communication wasted people's time and delayed addressing a situation affecting multiple properties. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend a company that confirms an appointment and then fails to show up or communicate with the customer.
