Can I have ten stars yelp? Got my explant with Dr. Cox and I am trilled with the whole experience. I cannot tell enough good things about Dr. Cox and his assitant Veronica. What I liked about my consultation was that he was normal and real. He was calm. He was not trying to sell himself. He also said to wait on the lift because a lot of patients dont need it. A surgeon who is not greedy? Really in California ? WoAH. He listened without interrupting. Veronica is kind and also a powerforce, treated me like I was family and my life was as important as hers. And I was a pain in her butt, meaning lots of texts and questions etc. My PCP approved my surgery eventhough there were high enzymes in my liver bloodwork, but Dr. Cox cancelled it just to be extra cautious. I was upset but I loved the fact that he cared, that was a loss for him too and more work to rescheduole. I also wanted someone who had experience in Breast Reconstructive Surgery in case something was needed when they opened me up. Thank God for that. I did a mamogram beforehand because you cannot do one for a year . During my explant, Dr. Cox found a mass on my right breast and biopsed it to make sure it was benign. And it was. As soon as I got in the Hospital rooms, a few nurses and even the anesteciologist got in my room and shared about how good of a surgeon he was. I never asked. They told me their stories and experiences and I felt overwealming peace, a knowing I was in the best hands I could be. He removed them emblock with just a capsulectomy. Yes. Apparently someone with his skills can do that. Previous surgeon had left the old capsules in when he exchanged them in 2003. He also fixed my scar tissue and made a smaller cleaner incision. I was traumatized by my experience here. I have been in pain for some time, and finally after jumping through all the hoops i was referred to Dr. Cox for a breast reduction and he came highly recommended by someone i trust. Finally i was going to get some relief...... NOPE!!!!!!!!!!!!! The surgery went fine but after 3 months i still wear the same size bra. I am still in pain, and i am extremely depressed over the whole ordeal. Mind you i started off (and finished) as a size 36DDD Here is where the trauma comes into play: Carlitos (Dr. Cox P.A.) was the one who saw me for all my follow up visits. He told me they only took 100cc of solid tissue and 100 cc with Lipo. I come to find out that isn't even one bra size for me. After my third visit he told me they were as small as they were going to get. Which is coming true. My last visit i arrived very upset, and wanted to be heard by Carlitos. They were 1 1/2 hours late seeing me. Finally got in to see him and while trying to explain to him why i was upset he kept barking at me "it's ok just tell me" interrupting me and was sitting about 6 inches from my face. I had to tell him to wait because it takes me a minute for formulate a thought. THEN the AWFUL front office lady called him out to the hall not even a minute later (i honestly think he had her do that on purpose) because HE WENT while i was sitting there crying. He was gone for another 1/2 hour and i heard them all talking about Door Dash. When he came back in he said he called the Dr in because he could see how upset i was. So, cut to Dr. Cox coming into the office. Dr Cox tells me he took 300 grams of tissue and that i am C cup because the way you measure a bra size is (Around the breast - 4 inches) minus (around the rib cage). Which IS NOT how you measure for bra size. I have been a woman my entire adult life with large breasts. You DO NOT take 4 inches off. ok for the sake of argument lets just say he is right.... Why am i still fitting into my 36DDD? Why can't i fit into ANY 36D much less a 36C... HELLO!!!! He also said that he could only take so much tissue as there is a ribbon that runs down the breast and it needs a certain amount of breast tissue for the nipple to survive. I am a 36DDD just how much tissue does it need!!!!! My mother had reconstruction and had her normal breast reduced to the size of her modified one and she still have feeling in her nipple so no Dr. Cox they DID NOT graft the nipple back on like you said you were sure of. He did tell me they could take out more tissue and do some more lipo but that it would be extremely painful and my breast would be bigger than they are now for a while. UGH!!! The very last thing he said to me was "hey, at least the grooves in your shoulders are gone..... UM, BECAUSE CARLITOS TOLD ME NOT TO WEAR A BRA AT ALL FOR 2 MONTHS. Then Dr. Cox instructed me to wear one as often as possible because "it will help with the swelling" .... NOPE!!!! As mentioned they are the same size and the grooves in my shoulders are back along with shoulder pain, neck pain, and headaches.. Have i mentioned i am miserable? They also told me they would have Veronica (Dr.s assistant) call me and she never did. Here is my take on what happened: Because i used my insurance company to pay for it, and because i have an HMO Dr. Cox took the easiest and fastest route. All i got was a lift, not a reduction. Dr. Cox phoned it in on this procedure. I think he could have performed a reduction that i would have been happy with but more time on the table means less money for him for his time. Now i get to start the process over again because i am still in pain. I was so looking forward to being pain free and happy and i am nothing but miserable. Miserable from my pain and miserable that i had to endure the horrible treatment being told that my breasts are smaller. Dr Cox is much more than a cosmetic surgeon and this office is so much more than cosmetic ! Did you know his team works along side cancers specialists? They go in and try to save lives. They pro long the lives of very ill people. They made it possible for us to have more precious time with a loved one who was terminally ill. HE CHANGED MY LIFE!!!! I am so glad my primary doctor send me to Dr. Cox for my breast reduction. He is an amazing doctor and very detailed. I can not thank him enough for the work he did on my breast I am beyond thrilled. During my recovery i had complication NOT his fault, my body rejected the stitches, and he wanted to see me every single week for two months until i got better. Great guy, great cut & paste, great surgeon! Dr. Cox and my family go back a long time. About twenty years ago he had to reconnect abdominal muscle and do scar revision for my daughter. As an infant she had several abdominal surgeries. At about eight years old she was having abdominal issues. Dr Cox was going to do the revision and he suspected muscle issues. She did and is doing great. My wife had a melanoma worked on by Cox and now I after several years with a dolphin bump (lipoma on the front of my head top) is finally removed. Looks great! Feels great and all is well. But let me also give some feedback on staff - first a caveat - I am not related to anyone in this office, I don't know anyone related to anyone in this office and not a single one of them socialize with me or I with them. So with that said Every single person was warm, caring, comforting, accommodating, friendly and of course professional. I have read the reviews and I have to say I think Veronica is very professional and I found very caring. I'm sorry others may have misread her, but she really helped all along. Frankly, I think she's the brains of the operation. Okay, maybe a stretch, but when you witness all she does, she's running the show. It's a good thing Cox is the brilliant surgeon he is because Veronica keeps all the plates spinning in the air for him. As all the staff does. The Downside- they need some new digs! After losing a ton of weight from gastric bypass surgery almost two years prior, I elected to have Dr. Cox remove some excess skin around my waist. Dr. Cox (My new favorite Doctor) is great. He is very down to earth and listens as well as clearly answering questions. He and his amazing assistant Veronica (best reached via email) went a few extra miles to get my HMO to cover surgery that is not normally covered by them. As mentioned prior, Veronica can be hard to get a hold of but it is because they are swamped, Dr. Cox is in demand. I have heard back from her quickly every time I emailed. When you go in on consultation day, expect a looong wait. Bring a book, they don't have free wifi. Any other appointment will be great though. I was terrified after surgery, feeling miserable, that I'd be sitting there for a couple hours. But that isn't the case. If you've read my experience with Huntington Hospital ....you will know that Dr Cox was the doctor that took care of me in the ER at Huntington Memorial Hospital. Very attentive, caring, skilled, good sense of humor.... i'm grateful he was there when i came into ER.....he literally saved the tip of my finger. I had followup care nearby at his office for around a month.....until my finger was ready to have the stiches removed. Initially he gave me 50/50 chance that it would take.....meaning there was a slight chance i wouldnt loose the tip of my finger....... He is the best.....feel so fortunate he was there when i needed him....because as i was healing it looked like frost bite and others would not even attempt it i feel....was a waste of time?.....my friend and the docs that i work with didnt see how it would take......you really need someone like Dr Cox who will try even though the chances are slim.....miracles do happen.....thanks doc. :) read more

My mother, a Cancer Conqueror, was recommended by her Oncologist who described his surgical expertise as "artwork", being able to compare his reconstruction skills among all her patients. That, to me, spoke volumes, because breast reconstruction is vastly different from augmentation, and this doctor has seen all types. Dr. Cox was also the person my mother found while doing her research to go to a surgeon who would use the implant of her choice (one that she felt was the best quality with the best warranty). He has an impressive surgical training background and even spent considerable time in the Philippines to set up their first surgicenter back in the late 90s! We received the warmest care from Dr. Cox. He has that Southern charm and is quite a fun guy. He spent as much time as she needed (which was quite a lot) to address ALL her questions about implant types, pro's and con's of different materials, he even jumped on an implant model and cut one open just to prove his point! Being in the healthcare profession myself and dealing with patients pre- and post-op, I've found Dr. Cox and his Assistant Veronica to be most caring and patient with my mom, a woman with so many reservations and questions that many healthcare providers would probably find annoying thus resulting in receiving sub-par care. Veronica was extremely thorough in her pre-op of my mom. She even reassured my mom that the warranty issue was irrelevant for reconstruction patients, since any re-do would be covered by her insurance. Veronica has been so nice to my mom post-op, and even made a call past 7 pm just to check on her shortly after surgery. Their surgical staff had excellent bedside manner-- Christina and (I forgot the male nurse's name), they helped put my mom at ease, kept me updated on my cell phone prior to her coming out of surgery and allowed me to spend every minute with her immediately post-op. Dr. Cox's surgical work was beautiful! My mom is looking pretty hot these days! Although there was unexpected rippling, a rare occurrence that can happen to anyone, she was offered a re-do with the newest implant that addresses this which is coming out the end of this year. The office waiting area is pleasant to sit in, we've never waited more than 15 minutes to be seen at our appointment times, and parking is easily accessible, easy and FREE. The Pasadena location is central to many restaurants nearby where we could grab a bite to eat while waiting during surgery. Dr. Cox and Veronica are expert clinicians and provide 5 Star Customer Service! I HIGHLY recommend them for my family. read more

I was a breast cancer patient with a double mastectomy, and came to his office terrified and not knowing what to expect. Dr. Cox and his Assistant Veronica were wonderful- putting me at ease and explaining the process thoroughly. Dr. Cox is a real artist, and a genuinely nice man, and Veronica is the best of many good office staff I have dealt with through this journey. AMAZING!! Where do I start?!?! There are many great comments and reviews about Dr. Cox and his office, but I was saddened to see the negative one referring to his assistant Veronica. She is the heartbeat that keeps things moving for Dr. Cox so he can keep his head on the medicine/surgical aspect of his patients (not that he isn't completely phenomenal and has the best bedside manner of any surgeon I've ever know while still being the most brilliant!!) Veronica is busy because she devotes her heart and soul to the patients. She keeps the paperwork filled out and in place, handles all the mess with the insurance company so the patients don't even have to think about it, squeezes everyone's appointments in around all the surgeries Dr. Cox is always busy with, and somehow in the middle of everything - she still treats people like people and is willing to give up her own lunch/family time/etc to get in early, stay late, and make sure you are taken care of. Perhaps sometimes there is a delay, but when you are the patient she is taking the extra time for you understand why she and Dr. Cox are WELL worth ANY wait you have. On the fun side, Kellie & Lindy at the front desk have been my newfound best friends the past year with all the appointments I've had to go to because they are kind, funny, and take all the stress and fear out of anything!!! I can't think of enough positive and complementary words to decribe this doctor and his staff - so all I can say is simply THANK YOU to them for saving my life (literally!!!) and anyone is welcome to contact me about this review if they'd like more information. Everything was wrong. Beginning with waiting for over two hours, more than once, in Dr. Cox's waiting room while I was going through chemo for breast cancer. I should have seen that as a sign. When discussing implants with Dr. Cox I was very specific that I wanted to look natural and as similar as possible to how I looked before bilateral mastectomies in both size and shape. I left with something completely different. Along with the wrong size implants, the wrong shaped implants, the wrong placement (very wide apart) and more scars than necessary. Specifically, additional 4-inch scars on both breasts in the inframammary fold. These scars were not part of the mastectomy. I had no choice about these scars. I woke up after the implants were put in with new scars and I was told that it is the only way to get the implants in, in hindsight I realize it was the lack of communication and lack of skill. It could also be coincidence but I had 30 days in a row of IV antibiotics for the treatment of cellulitis in the left breast possibly due to my surgery that took place at his outpatient surgery center behind his office. Even with 30 days of antibiotics, I had to have the implant removed and another one put in. I am proud to say I survived cancer and thanks to another plastic surgeon I have now survived the reconstruction from Dr. Cox, five years after diagnosis. read more

This review is way overdue but I really felt compelled to write this and make sure that anyone who is searching for a plastic surgeon knows about Dr. Cox. After 2 back-to-back c-sections in 2011 and 2012, I ended up with a severe rectis diastasis (abdominal separation) and three hernias. I was experiencing low back pain and became easily fatigued. As an occupational therapist who works with clients recovering from a variety of neurological and orthopedic conditions, I rely on my body in order to effectively do my job. Unfortunately, my performance at work began to suffer as I would get tired more easily and I found myself being unable to sustain certain positions for long periods of time without fatiguing. I was truly at a loss and desperate to correct my condition in order to preserve my career and ability to work as well as avoid long-term disability. Meeting Dr. Cox in 2013 was truly a blessing and an answer to my prayers. During the initial consultation, he was immediately able to confirm my diagnosis. He was extremely personable, gentle, reassuring and very wise. Most of all, he was very compassionate. My insurance would only cover the hernia surgeries but not the rectis diastasis. I was hesitant about getting any of the surgeries done because of the cost. Knowing that all of these surgeries were necessary, Dr. Cox made it possible for me to get the surgeries done at a rate that was affordable. I was extremely touched by his generosity, compassion, kindness and sincere desire for me to just come in and get the surgeries done so that I would be able to continue my work. I am so thankful for Dr. Cox and his skilled hands. Since having the surgery, I have been able to resume working 100% and no longer experience any low back pain or fatigue. Veronica, Dr. Cox's assistant, was also amazing and super supportive throughout the entire process. She always responded to my e-mails and phone calls and conducted herself in a very professional but personable manner also. When I was trying to figure out insurance issues after I was first diagnosed, she was so helpful and patient and even offered different suggestions on how to go about pursuing coverage. I was so impressed and touched by Dr. Cox and Veronica's services that I even ended up recommending him to my neighbor who also ended up needing a similar surgical procedure. Dr. Cox needs to hire a new scheduler. My review is based on Dr. Cox's office staff (namely, Veronica) , not Dr. Cox. I was referred by my primary physician to see Dr. Cox. I left 4 messages over 2 days with Veronica, Dr. Cox's scheduler, and she has not bothered to return any of my calls. According to the other office staff, she is just too busy. I have no doubt that Dr. Cox is an AMAZING doctor. My son had some work done 10 years ago and we were very pleased with his work. I hope Dr. Cox realises that his scheduler is turning away a lot of potential patients with Veronica's nonchalant attitude. read more

Several years ago I asked my PCP for 3 plastic surgeon referrals. I visited all three and selected Dr Cox without hesitation. Yes, you may have a long wait sometimes (not always) but when you have your appointments with Dr Cox you feel as though you are his only patient. You are never rushed. Dr Cox is the whole package - experienced, skillful, talented, patient, reassuring, truthful, educational, real, [and humorous too]. It is a pleasure to be in his company. My husband and I have made more visits to his office than I can count over the past 10 years. We both have had "work done" so we have had lots of opportunity to witness the entire staff in action (from the front desk to the surgical suite). Kelly and Lindy greet and treat patients with professionalism and warmth. (For those who have complained here.....come on people - we need to be good patients too - we need to come prepared, ready to fill out paperwork on our first visit, clear about what our expectations are, and sensitive to other patients in the waiting room who might be struggling). Veronica is always on top of things. Through the weeks leading up to and after my surgery she has "been there" every step of the way. It is unreasonable to expect that she be immediately available by phone during business hours when you consider how many people go through that office, so email works best. There are no words to thank Dr. Cox and his staff. 5 and 1/2 year ago due to another Dr. I almost died, but thankful for having him coming on an emergency call they made to him, my life was prolonged. His fast acting diagnosis and scheduling staff is the reason I am still here. Dr. Cox and his wonderful caring staff (namely Veronica) know what a patient feels like and real just hand hold you throughout the whole process. Especially the emotional post-op care. Jkjl j.- Dr. Cox and his staff are busy, they do get back to you as soon as possible. No disrespect - Jkjl j. - but maybe they have been busy with emergency calls like mine and are prolonging lives. They know how to triage(go in order of urgency), that does not mean they are turning you away. It is good that you called to remind them, but as a person that had her life prolonged , I would hope you understand that there are patients like me that need/needed to have them there at that moment, they (Dr. Cox and his staff) may have started to call you but our cases was/is life or death and they had to act on the situation. I am very pleased with the outcome of my implant surgery done by Dr. Cox. He did a beautiful job and my implants are very natural looking. He helped me through some rough patches when some of my stitches were not healing correctly. Veronica, Dr. Cox's surgical assistant, is great too. He will take as much time as you need to thoroughly explain your procedure, the recovery process, and potential side effects. Dr Cox did the reconstruction after my surgery for breast cancer. He is a wonderful and exacting surgeon, as well as an incredibly kind and considerate person. From the beginning he gave me confidence and realistic expectations about reconstruction. His entire staff is very upbeat and helpful, particularly his assistant Veronica who covers many directions with grace and good humor. Because I was coordinating with the oncological surgeon and plastic surgeon, I had a lot of questions. On several occasions Veronica took her time to return my calls and answer my questions in a direct and honest manner. My appointment/consultation was excellent. I was there no more than 1 hour total. Being a first time patient, I expected a longer process. The paper work was done quickly, the receptionist was very helpful and the environment was nice. Once I was called in, Dr Cox and Veronica were very friendly and knowledgeable.
