When Diane and I stopped in here for lunch the place was all nicely decked out for Halloween, with a wall of white ghosts, spider webs, and a large black spooky-looking spider hanging from a web. Here I ate a crock of good Chili that was warm instead of hot; a Patty Melt with onions and pickle chips on Marbled Rye Bread that was medium well; and very good Waffle Fries. Cowboy Jacks has a country-Western biker vibe. We came in for lunch and ordered some queso and chips to share before eating two burgers. The waitress specifically asked us about our burgers "do you want pink in the center or no pink". We both said "pink". Mine was definitely well done. Don't get me wrong it tasted fine. The bacon was delicious. The chips were salty and I enjoyed my meal. But if you're going. To serve me a well-done burger don't ask me how I like my burger. My two adult sons and one of their girlfriends, were in from out of town, and we decided to take them to Cowboy Jack's for lunch. My oldest son ordered a steak and bleu cheese salad, that he loved. One of our party ordered a pesto tavern flatbread, another ordered a turkey, bacon, avocado wrap with onion rings, and my husband and I ordered the same thing (to split). We've never really had a bad meal there, but we've always stuck with tavern flatbreads, or burgers with fries, or tots. Apparently ordering the wrap was the worst thing you can order off the menu. First off, the wrap was filled with about a teaspoon of canned meat. It didn't taste/look like Turkey; it looked like canned chicken. Secondly, it was so minimal, that I was able to hold all the 'meat' between my thumb and forefinger, from one half of the wrap. It was filled with lettuce. The staff didn't see a problem with this, and the waitress was nonchalant, and a bit condescending about the situation. The wrap was wretched, and we didn't even finish it. I requested something else from the menu, but instead, they decided to just add a little extra "turkey" to my wrap, and send it back with the cold onion rings. They didn't honor my request for something else, then had the audacity to just send back the wrap with cold onion rings. When the check came, I noticed that they charged us the full price of $3 for the 5 or so onion rings that we got, even though we subbed the rings for chips. We weren't told that there was an 'upcharge' for onion rings, but even if you charge an 'upcharge', it shouldn't be the full price you'd pay, if you got them as an additional side. They're $3 if you just order a side of rings on their own. If you are subbing them out for a meal, they should be a little less ($1-$2); but not full price. If they're going to charge full price, then just give me the chips that come with the meal, at no additional charge, and we'll still order the rings on the side, since we're paying full price for them anyway. The menu does not state that the wrap comes with chips, the waitress didn't tell us, but we assumed it came with a side, because the menu DOES state, "sweet potato fries for an up charge". It doesn't say, "All sandwiches served with chips, but any other side can be substituted at FULL price". Insanity. In the end, the manager did in fact remove the additional charge for the onion rings from our checks, but I think we're done with Cowboy Jack's. I was very displeased with the service. I had to go back and forth with the waitress, request a manager, then go back and forth with her. It seemed that they lacked the ability to understand what I was conveying. It was more trouble than it was worth. If you do go, I would suggest, steer clear of the wraps; stick with the bar food, and you'll be fine. Also, they served beer in plastic soda cups, which degrades the flavor and experience. They charge more if you don't pay by cash, and they played Christmas music while we were there! Not only is it May, you can't even say that it's "Christmas in July". I couldn't make this up if I tried. It was a very odd experience. read more

We usually love this spot but tonight was an awful performance service was bad to begin with we sat down and was there for almost an hour and someone from our group had to ask for a server and I'd seen her hovering over other groups. We ordered drinks and appetizers one person in our party got water then we had to wait for our drinks I ordered a corona NA and it was served with a lemon the severs excuse we're out of limes. I then order a bucket of beer an was served regular corona but guess what limes but had to then ask for the NA version. We waited a very long time for our food. The burgers were way way over cooked but we were hungry so we ate them. All we got were excuses. I don't know if we're going to come back for a long time. read more

Dishonest on the check. Was in there late one evening and quickly paid the bill and left as it was the end of the night. I noticed a few days later. The charge on my credit card was about $100 more than what a couple beers would've cost now I get the hassle of dealing with that although I live a good ways from Fredericksburg. What an unexpected surprise! I have seen mixed reviews, but I can only comment based on my experience. We had a great experience. I ordered the Fire burger, my son ordered the kids hotdog, and our friend ordered the Ruben. My son had waffle fries with his hotdog, the Ruben and Fire Burger both came with chips, however we opted to upgrade to the Tots. The food was all cooked to our specifications and tasted great! The service was on point, fast, attentive, and friendly. We never had to "look for our server" she was on top of things and refilled our drinks and addressed our needs before we had to ask. At first we were a bit apprehensive about the biker bar vibe and if kids were allowed in, but soon discovered it is just a cool bar and grill and yes kids are welcome. I don't rate restaurants one star often but there was nothing redeeming about my first experience at Cowboy Jack's. The food was barely edible. We started off with an order of calamari. The calamari was chewy and soggy. Our entrees weren't any better. The smoked brisket sandwich had no flavor and the bun it came out on was rock solid. The patty melt also had no flavor and the patty was burnt. All that you could taste was char. The fries and tater tots from both entrees came out cold as well. The service was just as bad as the food. Our server barely paid any attention to us. We never got any refills on our drinks and the server always seemed to disappear. I would not recommend coming here. The food and service need an overhaul. read more

Came in tonight for some beers, walked in to "seat myself" and waited close to 20 minutes for a server. No one came, so I eventually went to the bar where I waited for another 10 minutes and a bartender finally served me. Both bartenders (Asian guy & tall girl with her hair in a bun and chain necklaces) made eye contact with me numerous times but never asked if I wanted another drink. Even though my drink had been empty for a while. I finally had enough of being treated poorly, so I decided to ask for my check. The female bartender took forever and then finally threw my check on the bar. I was never rude or impatient and kept to myself, so I wasn't sure why the service was so horrible to me. The entire staff only seemed to favor their "friends" or the local drunk regulars. As well as only focusing on trying to do their shift closing duties & entering in their tips. I am super disappointed, management needs to clean house & maybe there will be returning customers instead of the same 10 heavily intoxicated, druggie regulars on a Friday night. Looking for a spot to eat outside with a dog while traveling though. This place did not disappoint. Great service! Cold beers. The wife and I took a little road trip to Woodbridge VA for a wedding and decided to stop by COWBOY JACKS for a late dinner. Well let's start with the most important thing at any restaurant and that is the service. It was far from great. After waiting about 5 min someone finally sat us and said she will take our drink order and get us a waitress. Well another 5 minutes go by and she returns and says she is our waitress. Finally 10-15 minutes go by and (by this time I have all but memorized the entire menu) she returns to take our order. She apologized and begins to tell us she had been there all day. Then she disappeared again for about 20 minutes. Before returning with our food and being every apologetic takes 10% off our tab (which is good because by now that was her tip). I had the Tex Mex Keto bowl and it was a bowl anyone could make at home. It was just ok. The presentation was nice, but it was off a little. The menu said it was topped with Cotija cheese. I eat a lot of Cotija cheese and what they used was not Cotija it looked and tasted exactly like Parmesan cheese I have NEVER seen Cotija cheese like what they served me. My wife had the Ham & Cheese melt. She is going to do a post on that but I do know the tomatoes that came on the sandwich looked and tasted old. You know that kind of grainy texture to them. We went to Cowboy Jack's for an early dinner. She had the BBQ chicken sliders and waffle fries. I had the 10 ounce sirloin with sweet potato fries and a side Caesar salad. We each had a margarita. She enjoyed the sliders, saying they're tasty with a little heat but not too much. The waffle fries were very good. I ordered my steak medium well and it came back tough and dry. It was tasty, though, and had very little fat that needed to be cut off. The sweet potato fries were your standard store-bought frozen fries. Nothing special and a small-medium portion. My Caesar salad was good, but they did a major no-no for me: bringing the salad and the main course at the same time (actually the salad came 30 seconds earlier than the steak. I've never seen margaritas quite that color. They must have been almost pure sour mix. We certainly didn't taste or feel any tequila or Cointreau. Unfortunately the margaritas were not part of the happy hour list, even with the well tequila. The service and atmosphere were as expected. The only negative was that since the widows facing the outdoor seating were open, flies came in and hovered around our food. Pricing was reasonable. read more

This place was a pleasant surprise. I caught them at the start of lunch on half-price Burger Day. I didn't think too much of the special at first--I mean how good could a $3 burger really be?--but I changed my burger attitude with my first bite of Cowboy Jack's burger special. It was a juicy, succulent masterpiece of a burger, and I would have been happy to pay $10 for the same (please don't raise the prices). As far as the service goes, my bartender Kathy was personable and friendly. Moreover, she steered me to the burger special, and for that i am very appreciative. Cowboy Jack's is a neat biker-style bar in the 'burg that surprisingly has a very expansive and accommodating menu! The aesthetic Western cowboy flair and I loved it. You'll definitely want to come during happy hour, because their 1/2 priced select appetizers are awesome. I was very impressed with the menu, as there are options for many different dietary preferences, including vegetarian and keto. I appreciated how vegetarian items were indicated on the menu to prevent any confusion and that the Beyond Burger could be substituted for any burger on the menu. We enjoyed splitting some appetizers. The Spicy Cheese Curds, Fried Pickles, and Brussels Sprouts were some of my personal favorites. I also thought it was cool how they have a cauliflower crust you can substitute for their flatbreads-it was tasty! Their Onion Rings are also pretty fabulous. The only thing that was kind of lacking was actually the drinks! I wasn't too fond of the odd plastic cups they served them in, but I get it-avoid breakage. Their isn't a huge drink menu but they can make anything you want, so I had a margarita which was a bit heavy on the sour mix. I would love to see a more expansive cocktail menu and I will definitely try a different drink next time. I wish I could give this place a negative star. The only thing good about this place was my shot of Jameson I received from the bar. Even the pickle juice for my pickle back was extremely salty and seemed very watered down. My sandwich was dry with little to no bbq sauce. Even with the extra bbq sauce I asked for, it still didn't mask that the REAL problem was the "eight hour smoked brisket" that was not tender and was extremely dry. Atmo is great with indoor/outdoor bar. Pizza doesn't taste like pizza. Other bar offerings are fine to good like onion rings. Draft selection is limited domestically. Plus are the bar staff who were attentive and easily managed good, drunk idiots, and refills. Only criticisms would be not cutting people/tables off before people pass out (they did when we were there), and managing the bikers who think everyone should feel their lack of testosterone by revving their engines with their mufflers pointed towards the bar so everyone smells their exhaust for several minutes while their "engines warm up" then obnoxiously crackle away. They have a spacious patio. It took a bit for someone to come over initially. The bartender noticed and got us drinks while he found the server. Service was very good after that. I have to say that this is one of the best (American based food) restaurant that I have visited. The food, customer service, and the ambiance gave me goosebumps. Our service Samantha was great. She provided some great recommendations and was ver personable. Our 2 girls had the pizza and some broccoli which was cooked to perfection. My wife who hates cheese pizza was raving about how good it was. I had the one of the burgers (cannot recall which one) but meat had so much flavor combined with the toppings which made it so great. My wife got the ribs which pretty amazing as well. My kids who only eat pizza, chicken nuggets, Mac and cheese kept stealing bites off of her place. Apparently according to the manger Mary my hookah is a fire hazard even though cigarettes and reefer are often smoked on the patio. I am not even in the building. If you see the photo you'll see there's no head and no charcoal. Now the collective knows we can bring our hookahs but weed, cigars, and cigarettes are ok even though they all have the same potential fire hazard on a patio.
