Does not cut and program keys despite their website claiming they do. The store was disheveled and poorly managed. I've been here twice and left without what I needed both times. Do better. read more

It's usually a fairly clean store. The help seems to have gone to seed of late. They do have all those little figurines my wife likes, so I go there to get that. Willow something. Other than that I don't really see the purpose for the store being there. read more

We first went in we were welcomed by a very sweet helpful young lady with long hair. Got my daughter popcorn because the cashier was busy and told us to just ask if we need anything. That is where my experience went south. The cashier was rather unfriendly I tried to open her up but she was not having it. Never said thank you or anything like that. Beware buying anything at this store!!!!! This store has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I attempted to return a tool that broke after one use and only 8 days after I purchased it. The owner refused to give me a refund, said there was no return policy, that she determines who gets refunds or exchanges, after I asked to see the return policy. After contacting Ace Corp. Office, was told that the stores work for them and they have no influence on how customers are treated. I was finally offered a replacement of the same product, which was out of stock and had to be ordered. So I will have to settle for another one that I may get one use out of if I am lucky. read more

I had to make a trip here for a few parts to fix a sinks plumbing. I cant believe how awful the service i received was. Even asking a simple question i was met with disregard for my inquiry. Cowan's Ace Hardware is GOLDEN to the Habitat for Humanity mission in Springfield, Missouri. The people at this store have so much character and a commitment to help their community. Very poor customer service. My husband purchased the wrong product and I tried to return it the next day. I told him to purchase granite cleaner and he came home with marble polish. I even looked at the shelves to see if there was a granite cleaner on the day I returned the polish to see if he overlooked it, but no. Ace didn't sell granite cleaner. And I only found a shelf tag and empty shelf for the item my husband had purchased. The cashier had to call her manager since she was unsure of how to process my return (I did not have my husband's debit card). I did have the receipt. Instead of helping me with the return, the manager left the register, went to the back of the store for about 6 minutes with the bottle. She returned and told me that the bottle I returned didn't weigh what it was supposed to weigh. I told her I didn't know what it was supposed to weigh, that I had not used the product, and it never left my bag and I didn't even have any marble in my house. The manager again said it was half empty and said she couldn't resell it and would have to damage it out. I was pretty confused and bewildered and then outright irritated when my son, who was standing next to me, asked me quietly if the manager thought I was lying. Well, yes, she was. She was implying I had taken the product home, used half of it, and was now trying to return it to the store for a full refund. By this time she STILL had not told me how I was going to get my refund and stated to me that she was surprised that someone hadn't noticed the half empty bottle when my husband purchased it. Finally she tells me she'll put the $8.64 on a gift card, to which I replied "that's fine" simply to get out of the store. I was standing there over 15 minutes just to return a bottle of polish. She gave me the gift card and receipts and threw the bottle into the damaged basket. I was so embarrassed to have this happen in front of other employees, customers and most of all, my SON. What kind of manager accuses someone of fraud over an $8 bottle of marble polish? I have frequented that store for years and bought hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise, but never again. I wrote a letter to the manager and returned my gift card the next day. I have no use for it since I will never go back there. And the $8 is obviously more important to that manager than it is to me. I even found out from my husband after I wrote the letter that an employee actually went and retrieved the item from the shelf when he bought it. It was handed to him. I take pride in supporting local businesses in my neighborhood, but this one is one I will never support again. Update: 8/23/13. Today I received a sincere letter of apology from the owner of Cowan's Ace Hardware, a cash refund for my original purchase and a $100 gift card. read more

DO NOT GO HERE to buy or return Craftsman tools, you will be wasting your time. Just went in to replace a 6" ext. & was refused again as usual because the part number did not match exactly, had an S on the end! They have never replaced a single tool. Take them to Sears where they are happy to replace the tools for you. I am going to contact Stanley Tools & complain. I see they already have all negative reviews so whats one more! read more

I am writing this review due to the service that I received on the evening of March 05, 2016. We had shopped all over Springfield looking for an appliance regulator. None of the stores that I thought would carry them had one. Finally we were driving past Cowan's Ace Hardware and my husband said lets stop and check. We talked with a gentleman in the store and he said yeah we had them but we have put them away. He did not offer to go look to see if he could find one for me, just said Sorry. My friend that was with us saw a young blonde woman and she asked if she could help. He explained to her what we needed and she said that she had some but they where put away but to hold on and she would go see if she could find one. Well after going thru a grocery cart full of items we were unable to find the regulator. We thanked her for her time and left the store, got in the vehicle and started to exit the parking lot. I saw a vehicle pull in front of us with a gentleman waving his arms saying "someone is chasing you", looked out the window and saw the young blonde running after the vehicle. Stopped and she had found the regulator. I was tickled to death that she had found the item, we went into the store to purchase the $7.00 item, so in addition I spent another $23.00 for other things that I was going to get. I want to express to the owner or manager of the store that this young woman went above and beyond what is expected of an employee. The only thing that I regret is that I didn't get her name. PLEASE, PLEASE compensate this employee for going over what is expected of an employee and keep her in line for promotion. If you had employee like her you would rule the hardware business.
