Take my yacht there always for gas and I am met by someone to grab my lines. Best fuel price in town and most knowledgeable employees.

Seattle Boat Company - Seattle Boat Company SkyLaunch Newport in Bellevue

Just completed our second purchase from Seattle Boat and the experience could not have been better…read more The entire staff was more than accommodating and walked us through the entire process and the boat multiple times so we were more than sure of the fit. Great experience and I highly recommend!

Our objective was to see how often and how we would use a boat. After a season, we decided to buy a Cobalt boat. We had stayed in touch with Shane over the last year. Once we decided it was time to move forward, he worked with us to build the boat we wanted. The team at SBC has made it an easy transaction. We just received our new R6 Surf. From Shane in Sales to Tony at SkyLaunch and Tommy the Delivery Captain it has been a great experience. Tommy sent me a library of videos to review prior to delivery and then did the on water boat orientation and walk through. He took me through all the systems and how they worked. In general, SBC sells and services high-end boats. They provide a concierge type experience. There are always staff around to answer questions and help you with any issues. They are definitely a higher-end dealer and it is not the low cost place. However, they provide the service and facilities that goes along with the price. Highly recommended.

Carefree Boat Club - Slow boat max speed

I have been boating for decades but was without a boat when I learned about Carefree. I thought it…read morewould be fantastic having access to both a sailboat, which is my passion, and the power boats to explore the islands. Things didn't turn out as planned. The sailboat was an old broken down and somewhat unsafe boat. When I brought up the safety issues to the club owner I received no response. The club had a rigger come out to get a bid of fixing the headsail track (which created an unsafe situation on its own) only to find that the rigger wouldn't do the job unless other safety issues were addressed. They weren't. The power cruisers constantly had maintenance issues that went unfixed for most of the summer boating season. They also had safety issues like the VHF radio not working (that's how you contact the Coast Guard in the event of an emergency) and the depth meter not working. I took friends out on a power boat only to find that the metal rail holding the seat back in place was snapped in two and had a very sharp edge that could have easily cut someone. Even the clubs own dock staff was frustrated as they took the brunt of the members complaints when they could do nothing about the problems. I have friends who are still members (I am not) who regularly tell me that the problems continue and that they are thinking of quitting. For me, it turned out to be a complete waste of money. I am now looking for a sailboat to buy. I will then really be carefree!

Why I Am Not Renewing My Membership…read more I'll start with the positive: there is absolutely nothing like being out on the water in Seattle. Cruising around the lakes and Sound are the highlight of living here, and I truly wish the service was at a point where I could justify staying. If the management matched the scenery, I would definitely be continuing my membership. Unfortunately, the reality of the club is a major disappointment. Availability and Policy: Weekend reservations are extremely hard to come by. You have to book the boat at least 6 weeks in advance to have a chance of getting a weekend booking at the better locations including Lake Union. The Fleet Quality is Sliding When I joined a few years ago, the fleet was fantastic--mostly "optimum" high-end boats. There has been a noticeable downgrade the last two years. They've been replacing those premium vessels with much less expensive, lower-tier models. You're essentially paying premium membership dues for a budget-tier fleet. Serious Safety Concerns Lack of Staff Expertise With two decades of boating experience, it's easy to spot when staff aren't properly trained. The summer dock hands often seem to have zero maritime knowledge or basic boat safety skills. It makes the "carefree" process feel a lot more high-risk and stressful than it should be. In one incident, we were sent out on a pontoon that had a broken stern gate and was listing to the right (clearly holding water in one of the pontoons). Once we got to the lake, water rushed through that broken gate, causing the boat to pitch dangerously forward and take on a massive amount of water. It was a scary situation for everyone on board. When I called the office, they admitted they already knew the gate was broken and had received similar complaints. Although they kindly brought a replacement boat out to us, knowing a boat is compromised and sending it out anyway is a huge red flag. Not "Hassle-Free" The club is marketed as a convenient, luxury experience, but the daily logistics tell a different story. You are required to fuel the boat at Fisherman's Terminal every single time you take it out. This adds significant time and stress to the end of every trip, which totally contradicts the "hassle-free" vibe they sell you on. The reason given is to overcome logistical timing of fueling boats between members, but we never had issues over the past few years with having to wait for a boat at that location. The reason is actually because they downgraded the boats, which have smaller tanks. The "Contract Trap" (Buyer Beware) The biggest issue you need to know before signing is that you are essentially trapped. Unlike many clubs with annual options, the contracts here can run 5 to 7 years. If you're unhappy or your situation changes, you are expected to pay out the remainder of those years. It is a massive commitment for a service that has significantly declined in quality. Final Verdict: I'm really going to miss the convenience of a club and being out on the Sound, but between the maintenance issues, the staff's lack of training, and the declining boat quality, the value just isn't there anymore. If you're a serious boater looking for a professional and safe experience, I'd suggest looking at other options.
