This building used to be the John Deere foundry, which I had no clue about. It's a beautifully revamped building with great detail and very historic architecture. I even bring my own "hotel bag" in case I have to clean. It is clean. It is in great shape. Rooms are spacious. Staff were friendly. It's close to everything. I stayed 3 nights. I've already booked my next stay. My family also stayed here and said the same things. If you are questioning where to stay in Waterloo/Cedar Falls this is it. The coolest Marriott Courtyard I have ever seen (and I stay at Marriott quite a bit). Clean rooms, friendly courteous and professional staff, go without saying. The girl at the front desk was a sweetie and helped my son and I get checked in with a smile. But this Marriott courtyard has something special... if you have ever been to The West End in Dallas TX, you will immediately recognize what Marriott did with this hotel! Something of a massive converted stockyards warehouse. Contemporary post industrial modern design with soaring ceilings and a very "W Hotel" snazzy feel. Very long hallways that would make good movie scene locations, including the lobby and upper floors. Soaring ceilings in guest rooms that you have to experience to appreciate. The place is huge, almost feels like a convention center it is so spacious. It makes you feel small. I wouldn't have been surprised to see hotel staff use segways. They did have the powered rental scooters outside the door. (Nice touch!) We were on a cross country trip from Northern Virginia to Redmond WA to relocate my son. We were driving a moving truck with his car on a trailer. There was plenty of parking here to accommodate the 30 foot rig easily and safely. If happen to be anywhere near this hotel again, I will definitely make an extra effort to stay here. This was the hotel-highlight of our cross country trip. read more

This hotel is remarkable! Worth every penny! My friend stayed here last year and suggested we stay on our trip. There isn't much I can say that hasn't already been said, but the hotel is housed in a repurposed factory and those elements have made a stunning hotel. The rooms are HUGE and open, stylish, very clean, and comfortable. Name brand toiletries are provided, there is a large open shower and there is a snack area next to the check in desk. The staff was very friendly checking in AND out. I only had a few problems that led me to giving three stars instead of 5. The first is that the bathroom door is made of frosted glass. It's very pretty and you actually can't see through it but it made me SO self conscious! My other two may have been covid related so I'm not upset about them but it's worth noting that there is a restaurant but it isn't operating so there is no option to just walk down and get food or order room service unless you want the snacks for sale. The final issue was that on check out day at around 0800 someone, I'm assuming housekeeping, opened the door and tried to come in. Thankfully we had the safety bar latched so she couldn't get into the room but it would've been good to announce herself or knock. I wasn't upset enough to bring it up to anyone, like I said, things are strange right now with Covid and she may have just been running on auto pilot. I would 100% stay here again happily! read more

I love this hotel, it's really cool. Very modern with some of the best staff I've encountered on various hotel stays. Kiera was extremely helpful and amazing at the reception desk. First of all, it's a cool old building that used to be a John Deer factory. They've left the ceilings as dappled worn concrete with just a fresh coat of paint. There are mysterious columns that must be for structural support but they make for some sweet architectural interest in the rooms. This hotel has six beautiful stories with a lap pool on the sixth floor and an exercise room somewhere- I'll be honest, I didn't even look for it lol. The color scheme is a neutral but modern gray and black. All fixtures and furniture have a modern light industrial feel. There is a beautiful arbor covered courtyard with tons of seating and the indoor breakfast/dining area was pretty hip. Everything is clean and crisp and feels like new. It was a nice little home away from home. I stayed in a room with double queen beds. There was a huge floor-to ceiling window with both a shade and a blackout shade that raise and lower easily by a pulley style chain. Two seating areas, a long desk with another for a full sized work area. There was a small two drawer chest that should be enough to unpack for a weekend and a nice size closet with normal hangers! If needed, the closet also houses a full sized ironing board and iron. We also had a small refrigerator that I didn't notice immediately because it is tucked in a cabinet to prevent that annoying hum. My room had no fewer than 20 outlets (probably more) and the nightstand even had usb plug-ins. There are lights everywhere so you can make the room as bright as you like, or keep just a smaller reading lamp on. The bathroom was spacious with a giant walk in shower. No tub, but I'm more than ok with that. They stocked plenty of towels and toiletries, but if you need extra just ask. I received additional shampoo, lotion and towels in abundance with no attitude from the staff. The ONLY two things that keep this from a five Ayer are the slowest elevators in Waterloo and heavy room doors. The set of elevators closest to the reception desk move like molasses. The set on the far end move slightly faster. The room doors are huge and quite heavy-though I will say the for their heft, they do not slam. But I have a bad elbow so it was difficult for me to pull them open. I would definitely stay here again. I loved this place. There is no continental breakfast but the hotel has a tiny store with snacks and the bistro has breakfast from 7-10. It's also situated perfectly so driving to restaurants or places of interest won't take you hours. It looks like there will also be two restaurants opening soon on the ground floor. If you're in need of a room in Waterloo, I'd recommend staying here. read more

This hotel is fantastic. I love old building (old John Deere plant) that they can whip up into modern hotel spaces. This one is top notch. Rooms are spacious with vaulted ceilings, big windows and mod furniture. Great showers, and bathrooms. The lobby is swank, and the morning breakfast area was nice. Service was top notch.. Melina the hostess who checked us in was super gracious and helpful in making our stay the cosiest ever! Great place for families or if you are looking to get away! The pool area was super nice and not deep, perfect for my 3 1/2 year old to do some swimming! All in all this is a great spot. I would come back here in a heartbeat! read more

The Courtyard is an A-OK hotel in Waterloo Iowa. I give them high marks for adapting a Courtyard into a former John Deere factory. Everything in the hotel was extra big! The rooms were especially super spacious. The front desk staff was helpful and friendly. The staff at the Bistro in the evening was also helpful and efficient. The Bistro staff in the morning was nice but seemed a little disorganized and on the slower side to take orders. Place is like, idk a converted parking garage or something a lot of random concrete poles in rooms and on the ceilings.. Anyways, 4th? Floor smelled like sewage in the hallways. Most pillows were gross with yellow stains on em, same with the comforter and the sheets. Pretty sure they never cleaned this room or if they did change the linens they need to use laundry detergent. Half our bed was throw to the floor luckily the AC worked well we slept with bare minimum. And for those of you critics that say why didn't we complain? Came in late and didn't feel like creating a fuss. Regardless of why, probably wouldn't stay there again. read more

We had to find a place to stop Midway in our traveling. We chose this because it was the first one on the list. Boy am I glad we did. First, Faith the receptionist was wonderful. You can tell she loved her job. You could tell she loved her hotel. You could tell she loved John Deere! When I came out of the bathroom in the hallway she said, "How do you like our bathroom!" It wasn't a question.... She knew how I like the bathroom! The bathroom is awesome. She explained why the rooms were so large. She explained why they were supposed to be larger. Absolutely beautiful Courtyard. I've been in dozens across the country, but this renewed factory building is the most beautiful I've ever seen. It has a modern but comfortable industrial design with super high ceilings, exposed old factory floorboards on the ceilings, all new tile and carpet, and enormous windows in every room. Seriously, stay here if you're coming through Waterloo. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in a 100 mile radius! Only negative was the pool was closed for renovations during my visit. Wow this is a nice addition to the CedarLoo area! Im glad they used this building for something and made it really cool. We were greeted at the front desk by Melina who got our room set up for us and let us know where everything was at. We ended up having a suite and it was great! There was a huge comfy bed, a couch that pulled out into a bed and a big closet and shower! There isnt much of a view, as its an old industrial park, but its real close to the heart of downtown Waterloo. Theres a small pool. The only thing I thought it needed was more decoration in the rooms. But overall great! Plenty of places to eat nearby and things to check out. The restaurant inside the hotel was great too. The server really made sure all our food was vegan and was pleasant to talk to. If I need to stay at a hotel on my next visit home I will definitely be looking into this one first! read more

I am SO tired of killing horse flies!!!! I've even switched rooms and they're still in abundance. I killed 7 in the first room in 2 days, now there are 2 terrorizing me in the new room. Also, who likes half cold showers? Anybody? Probably not. Who has half of a shower glass for a design???? If your back is to the water, the front of you will be cold. Who enjoys that?? Then it doesn't even extend far enough to keep the floor or mat dry. It's the dumbest design ever. Some of us can't stand directly under the water to stay warm. This may be known as the "best hotel in Waterloo", but I'm unimpressed. I don't know anybody who would be impressed because we like hot showers with no clean up. The room are ok. I loved the history of the building being a former John Deere tractor factory, the hotel is very modern and clean. The room was very nice but super cold and the open concept shower never let you get really warm. The elevators definitely are the slowest and one was out of working order. They have a small cafe with a breakfast and dinner menu. Take note- you best put an order in between 7-9:20am because we walked down at 9:32 and the woman at the register told us we were two minutes past being able to order. Lovely. Dinner service starts at 5:00. Besides those few things it was a nice place to stay and well located. read more

Then the neighbors checked in and the walls are thin (or the sound just really carries). Fortunately they were quiet after the initial check in. The rooms are really big with great windows and comfy. This Courtyard is by far one of the best in Iowa. With a very unique feel from being an old JD factory, the rooms are much larger than normal, and have a comfortable feel. The staff is great here and will take care of anything you need. Cool restaurant downstairs, and a large gym and pool upstairs. All is very good here staying with Landmark group from K82 for one overnight. And is next door to some of their planned stops, the JD Museum. Nice central location for our group business needs. We definitely will not be staying again, there is no hot tub, the pool is only 2'11", they did not have enough bedding for the pull out sofa in the room (not to mention the pullout sofa was only a single not a double), called the front desk took them an hour and a half to get towels for the pool and the pool was pretty well packed. There are no maps pointing out where anything is, you just have to wander around to find the pool, & the fitness room, which everything is on different floors. I got charged $10 to make a local call to order pizza! Not to mention they didn't tell me when I was checking out about the $10 charge, found it on my bank statement two days later. Highly disappointed for the quality and the service from a Marriott. Design of the room & space of the room was very nice however. Bed was hard as a rock. Cool looking hotels don't matter if you can't trust their staff. Courtyard Marriot's staff in Waterloo will steal your items from your room -- they particularly like electronics. This hotel looks nice, but so do many AirBnB's in the area. Again, if you cannot trust a hotel's staff to not steal items from your room, you should not stay there. This hotel's staff has a track record of theft. They will steal electronics from your room, or other valuables, if you leave them out. Their manager will tell you that he has checked with staff, and that will be the end of it -- your items will be stolen, and you'll just be left with the bill. I would strongly caution anyone visiting Waterloo or Cedar Falls against staying at this hotel. If you do not want to have your items stolen from you, do not stay at this Marriot. Their staff are thieves and the management covers for them. read more

Our family stayed one night in a king room to attend a wedding in Waverly. The bed was heaven - perfect combination of soft and firm - luxurious sheets. A friend told us the building is the old John Deere Factory. The architecture is so cool with the high ceilings, exposed columns and huge windows. Beautiful. This place is pretty cool! After researching the history (I'm an Agriculturist), this used to be the Tractor Works of John Deere! After a multi-million dollar renovation, this hotel is a great place to stay. Keeping the industrial design aspects of the past of this building throughout the decor is genius! The tall ceilings, the concrete pillars, the industrial windows. Awesome. The hotel is new, it is clean, the service is great, not pushy. Beds were comfortably set in a large spacious room. The bathrooms are nice with a walk in shower and soft closing frosted glass inset sliding door. Parking is plentiful and well lit. The view is industrial - keep in mind this is the location of John Deere Works of Waterloo, so don't expect lush green landscapes. It is also located just a couple hundred yards from the John Deere Tractor and Engine Museum. This is still a great use of a building from history! read more

I would rate it zero stars if possible. When we checked in it was late just before midnight. we were traveling with kids, and they were taken to the room sleeping. upon checking out the room there was a lighter laying in the floor great thing when you have 3 kids under 7. Checked the bathroom looked like someone exploded the toilet, I think sasquatch had showered in the room and there was enough hair to make a wig. called the front desk they had no other rooms available but would put us on housekeeping's list for the next day. 3pm no housekeeping my wife stops someone in the hall who told her if she had to, she could clean the room but told my wife she could not enter the room until it was complete. My Daughter's stuffed animal was taken with the bedding, and we were not aware learned of this at about 11pm. This is my daughter's animal she has had since the day she was born called front desk they said Well the managers lock the office with lost and found and it would be tomorrow before anyone could look. They did find it the next morning but as you can guess we had zero sleep that night. Called and spoke to The GM upon checkout who promised she would put a $200 credit on my card to give it a couple days. that was a month ago and calls now go without being returned. This is hands down the worst hotel experience we have had, and we stay in hotels 20 weekends a year. read more

I have had nothing but issues since booking at this hotel. First, they charged me twice, for more than my 1 night stay, BEFORE I even stayed with you guys, 3 weeks before my stay. I just stayed April 9th and I see they are charging me yet again more than my rate I booked at. Plus I have a whole bunch of food charges on my room???????????? Also, our room and whole 3rd floor SMELLED LIKE WEED so bad I thought I was going to get contact high. I have young children that had to stay there. The front desk girl that night said there was nothing she could do and couldn't offer me another room. I had to wait at the front desk forever last night because no one was around... there's no bell to ring, no phone to call to get someone. Nothing. We were never notified of the pool being closed... this would have been nice to know as I have young kids who bank on swimming at hotels. A heads up or somewhere on the website noting this would have been nice. Also the whole 6th floor where the pool is located smelled like rotten fish and eggs. I could barely hold my breath long enough on the floor to see the pool was closed. Our lights in our room were broken, blood in our room, sheets were filthy AND we had 1 outlet that actually worked so none us could get our phones charged... to top it off. Nice hotel nothing I've never seen before. Staff at the front desk is super cool I see Tony a lot and the other girl with the blonde hair. Only thing the bistro currently does not take cash that's such an inconvenience for ME. The older black guy with long hair he's so cool that works at the bistro upbeat and was so nice to me made me feel good! Now the older black lady with braids and caucasian guy with reddish hair and khaki jacket no customer service at all. He sees me doesn't say a thing yells to the black hey you have someone here. This is a very nice property for the price point. It is a relatively new property that opened in December of 2017. The public spaces were spacious and contemporary. The rooms were also amply sized and nicely decorated. The breakfast options on the Saturday morning that we were there were limited, but the sandwiches that we ordered were very good and came with a nice side of fresh fruit. Why not 5 stars? Well, to begin with, our family of 4 reserved a room guaranteed to sleep 4, but really only slept 3. (King bed with a small pull-out). At check-in, I asked for 2 queens, but the friendly front desk clerk was unable to make that happen after a lot of feverish typing - something about having made our reservation outside of Marriott.com. Also, the pool area had no clean towels, and used towels laying around the lounge chairs which made for an un-kept look and some drippy guests. Also, families should be aware that the pool is only a shallow lap pool. There is no hot tub. All in all, it is a nice hotel which could use some better focus on proper staffing and staff training. read more

After reading the two reviews below I am puzzled if I stayed at the same hotel. Albeit the building is well designed it does have some structural flaws. As a Marriott Platinum Member I have stayed at many Marriott properties and this one is less than desirable. What you gain in aesthetics you will certainly lose in customer service. Twice I have not had running water for a shower or to even brush my teeth because they had to shut off the water because of pipes breaking or some other construction related issues. Housekeeping will fail you if you need to stay more than one night. They continually skipped my room and I finally had to resort to stopping at the front desk and give them a reminder to service my room and even with this they still skipped it. I spoke with the GM, Kim, on several occasions and even after this she STILL did not fix the problem. They are in need of some serious training and new management. I was told they are under a "soft" opening and this was the reason the overall service was poor; however, this will come at a cost to you the consumer. Where are the "soft" prices if I am not getting what I paid for. At night the front door is locked and you will need to push a buzzer and speak through a speaker to have them buzz you in if your arrive late. On my last stay, two weeks ago, I sat outside pushing the buzzer for 20 minutes and called the hotel with my cell phone three times and no one buzzed me in. As I turned to walk back across the parking lot the front desk attendant came out and let me in. No idea what this was all about, but I was heading out to go stay elsewhere. Bottom line......if your looking for a hotel where you are going to spend more than a night DO NOT book here. They have a lot of kinks to iron out yet. Also, the building must be structurally challenged as pipes seem to keep breaking (twice now in 3 months). What's next.....ceiling falling down? I have stayed primarily at Courtyards by Marriott and this one is by far the worst in terms of service. Maybe in a year it might be worth another look but for now.....save your money and stay elsewhere. Finally, do not expect prompt service at their restaurant, The Bistro. Understaffed and I waited 20 minutes just to get a cup of coffee. If you book....have fun and make sure you pack some water in your car to bath in the parking lot!! read more

I have been doing business with this hotel since they opened and always worked with the General Manager Kim. This manager is one of a kind. She always got back to you she worked non stop and she was visible for her guests and employees. I recently was told she was no longer there which was fine but the issue I had was the person I was directed to speak with ran her down and said things I know not to be true!!!!! Not only will be taking our business else where but I think the previous General Manager should know how unappreciated she was by the owner of the hotel.
