The hotel is beautiful. The lobby is grand with tall ceilings. It's located right downtown, about 20 minutes from the airport and less than 10 minutes from Balboa Park. I stayed here for work so I didn't get a chance to check out the bars and restaurants in the area but I did go downstairs to the lobby bar and had some food and drinks. The only downside is the parking availability. The only overnight parking available is valet parking for $65 per night. I did see several parking garages downtown. They might have overnight parking options but I am not sure. Overall, I would stay here again!

Such a great old building. Est 1928 First National Bank of San Diego. Now a beautiful Courtyard Marriott. Excuse the mess. :)

This hotel is an experience. That's because it's old and quaint and holds rank as the former first bank in San Diego. I'm not sure when the space was converted into a posh hotel, but it is very much reminiscent of the old New York City hotels. From its below-ground cavernous bank safe, down to its tony updated and comfortable rooms, your stay here will be unique and memorable. When we arrived, we got special treatment from the doorman, who carefully bused our luggage up the elevator, to the night audit clerk taking care of getting us a better room, everybody was so accommodating. We didn't eat/drink at the restaurant or bar, so I can't speak on the food or drink quality. We stayed two nights, then we were off to new adventures to experience in our city. Welcome! Good times!

Great location, very nice hotel. It used to be a bank. Valet Park is only choice besides some parking garage.

I got a peek at this place while visiting a friend who stayed here on Friday. The gentleman at Concierge was so kind, I forgot his name. Location wise it was on a busy corner, my Uber driver didn't have a place to park. Aesthetics were very modern. The elevator and hallway were clean. The room was clean and spacious. The bed and sofa were comfortable. Natural lighting filled the bathroom.

They offer valet parking, which is still cheaper than nearby lots. A small bottle of water is provided, the bed is very comfortable, and the cleanliness is excellent. The location is 1026 6th Ave, San -- use this for navigation. Note that there are a lot of homeless people in the area, the streets have a strong urine smell, and nearby restaurants like Subway and Starbucks don't have seating. You can ask the hotel lobby if you want to eat your food there. It's uncertain whether street parking is safe. However, this location is very close to most tourist attractions. The soundproofing is quite good, and the pillows are also very comfortable. But parking is really too expensive! It might be better to stay at the Marriott in Old Town, which includes parking and breakfast.

Stayed here for Thanksgiving/WWE Survivor Series weekend -- checked in Friday, checked out Monday; booked via Chase Travel. Checking in and out was easy. Got overnight valet @$65/night added on. Charges were all prepaid and valet was straight forward, no funny business or random fees. Pros: - This hotel was partnered with Chase Travel and was eligible for a points boost offer with my CSR. Even better deal than transferring points to Marriott. Turned it into a fantastic budget deal and ultimately was the reason why I chose it over another nearby hotel. Roughly was $230/night after taxes & fees for a room with 2 Queens, non-refundable. That plus the $195 for 3 days of valet and it's still under $900 all-in for a fun weekend trip. - Being it's originally an old bank, the architecture is beautiful from the grand entrance in the lobby to the elevators. There's a cool vault in the bottom floor and other little bank-themed Easter eggs throughout. - Location is very central. Far enough from the super noisy side of Gaslamp, close enough to walk to and from Petco Park. Also very close to great eateries at various price points. The Taco Stand and Kiko's Seafood are literally around the corner. Cons: - It's a textbook three-star hotel. No frills, not the best service. Ventilation sucked, no little freebies, outdated fixtures, grungy bathroom, curtains don't block out the light all the way. - Had the option to request full service housekeeping everyday or the standard every other day. I always opt for everyday if offered. They missed it even when I reminded them before I headed out for the day. They didn't apologize when brought up and just blamed their standard policy. They apologized only when I checked out. Overall not a bad stay, just a standard 3-star hotel. Wouldn't mind staying here again if I got a deal on it, but wouldn't personally seek it out or recommend it to friends or family as a first-option. Tips: - free sparkling wine from 6-7pm each day - navigate to Sixth entrance, not Broadway

Not your average Courtyard by Marriott. The hotel used to be a bank and has a really cool vibe. The staff were nice and the room was clean. Food prices weren't too bad. The only downside was they only serve breakfast and dinner. We were staying the night for a quick concert so it was no biggie that they didn't have a pool or a spa. Room prices were pretty expensive but I understand that staying in the city isn't cheap. We booked 5 months in advance and our room was $300 a night with my AAA discount. Overall had a good experience and we were close to the airport and the concert venue

This is the nicest Courtyard I have seen. The building was previously a bank in the 1920's and it's gorgeous. The lobby has a high ceiling, much of which appears to be original. The floor below has some of the original bank vaults and old telephone booths. The floors above are old offices converted into hotel rooms. The hotel rooms look great and the bathrooms are nicely updated. SERVICE Everyone was friendly and professional here. I felt like the level of service matched the hotel. PARKING They only offer valet parking. If you want to park on your own, there are various private lots and garages in the area. Street parking is available but it is all metered and usually 1, 2, and 4 hour limits. Most streets also have restrictions such as no parking MWF from 3am-6am or no parking TuTh 3am-6am. LOCATION The location is pretty convenient. It's close enough to the convention center to still be walkable but far enough from the loud parts of gaslamp where your stay won't be disturbed. The immediate area is fairly safe. One street over on 7th will have a noticeable increase in homeless residents. You'll find a good number of shops and restaurants on streets 4th to 6th.

Very fancy interior !

I've stayed in a lot of hotels during my lifetime (for business and pleasure); this is among the most beautiful I've ever visited. Marriott converted an old bank and wisely kept all the beautiful architectural features which made staying here feel like staying in a museum. This hotel and location were chosen by my wife's company...so I wouldn't have chosen it on a normal basis. It was honestly a treat to experience being treated by the staff as a non-Marriott loyalty member. I give the team here an A plus. We were checked in early. Also the staff noticed that we were assigned a room with on king bed (there were 4 of us) and made the change with no charge to us. Our room was well appointed with a beautiful view of downtown San Diego. Also, it's located near the "gas lamp district" and all the wonderful dining and entrainment opportunities. To my knowledge there was no pool but it does have a wonderful workout gym area. My only "negative" is that it's a "valet only " hotel. The parking is off site...and it can take around 20mins to get your car. That said, I'm not sure that any hotel in the downtown area offers self parking I'm not into valet but I think the team did a great job. I'm a fan of this specific hotel...we were treated very well by everyone despite not being a Marriott loyalty member. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone! I don't think you'll find a hotel much better. I'd even forgo my loyalty membership to another hotel to stay here and if you know me that's saying a lot!

November 2024 Nice hotel in a historic building in downtown San Diego. This was a former bank building that was built in 1928 and still retains some of the original decor. Rooms are on the small side and unfortunately no club lounge for guests with status. Had room service breakfast that was nice and all the staff was really friendly. Walking distance to many restaurants, Petco park and the convention center. I give it 3.8 stars.

The grand bar of the Marriott Courtyard and the feel of the building it gives you the true story of the building.

When you take a look back in time when the City of San Diego was going through the many hard times and the buildings of many large businesses and the many of the large businesses were the big banks and the many of them were located along the main street of Broadway. During the many years the city has grown, and the many historical buildings were changing, and the banking industry was one that was creating larger banks and the larger safes that most bank robbers were unable to get through there were some, yet they were gunned down. There is one building that that holds one of the largest safes in the basement when you have a large bank most the vaults were in the basement of the building. Walking through the main interior of the building it feels like you have crossed back into the 1930s and you have come to the bank to make a deposit you can feel the history and the many things that have gone inside the building just due to the size and the structure. When you walk about the building you can see the many pictures of when the building had first started the building of the bank and the many floors that it took to complete the m any floors. The many pictures on the wall some of them can't be replaced showing the true side of San Diego and the many places during the 1930s and 1940s. When you come to the Marriott Courtyard you can see the sheer size of the building and the way many buildings that had looked before with the architecture that still stands today. The many floors of the bank building must still have the many things that are up there with the long mail drop and the dumb waiters that are used by the many hotels here in the City of San Diego. The Courtyard Marriott Building is one Hotel that has so many tales and the great stories of the many shootouts that may have taken place when the place was a bank and the many spaces along the many areas were the tellers if you tried to rob the bank you were in for a big surprise. The lobby of the building it has the Hotel feel to it and the people that work behind the desk and those in the dining room has such a great story to tell of the building and the great history. As a Yelp Reviewer this is one building that has everything and the feel of the 1930s and the 1950s when you come in the marble floors and the walls tell you so much and the feel of the lighting tells you have entered one of the largest banks back in the 1930s. The location its wonderful for a hotel and the remodeling they have there is more work to be done to the main lobby and the dinni9ng and bar.

You can decorate the space however you want so it's very customizable. They also allow any outside vendors for food and drink which is a plus because I know some venues make you work their list of food vendors only. I found the staff very easy to work with. We communicated via email the weeks before our party and they answered any questions I had promptly. The only con I had this place was the parking situation. I toured this place in the late afternoon after work when things were nice and quiet, so I didn't think the parking was bad at that time. But on weekends at around noon, it gets really crazy. Factor in the weekend crowd and if there are any other events taking place in the area, it is a nightmare. Some of my family members weren't able to attend my event bc they spent 40+ minutes driving around. I would definitely recommend getting there early or ride sharing, or maybe hosting your event later in the afternoon to avoid the crowds. It was also pretty warm. They do have air conditioning, but since it's an indoor/outdoor space, it's hard to keep the cold air in. It's not the venue's fault for the hot and humid weather we have been experiencing though. Just something to be aware of. Overall, my party turned out great. I would recommend, but just really assess the parking situation.

We were grateful valet service was included for our larger guest count, but I would strongly recommend this upgrade if not already part of the package *No groom suite. From both a financial and planning standpoint, this option removed a lot of the usual wedding stress because of how many services were already bundled together.
