When my wife and I couldn't stand it any longer and headed out to buy furniture, we were horrified. While we loved the hand crafted Amish stuff, and could easily abide a room full of offerings from The Real Mother Goose, we couldn't afford it. The truly hideous, outsourced, stapled particle board junk that we found in the big box furniture stores was not going to open our wallets at any price. What to do? We both are conscious of sustainability and the life cycle of the manufactured items we buy. We wanted good quality furniture that could be handed down to the next generation. We wanted solid wood furniture, made from sustainably harvested woods. We wanted furniture that employed local materials and labor and employed the same manufacturing techniques used to make handcrafted furniture. Forget about it - Right? Well we were about to give up when we dropped into the Dania store in the Hollywood district. They carry Wood Castle Furniture, and it was exactly what we were looking for. Wood Castle makes truly beautiful solid wood furniture, from sustainably harvested hardwood right here in Oregon. We bought a queen size spindle bed, a tall five-drawer chest, a wide six-drawer chest, a wall hung mirror, and two one-drawer night stands; all for five thousand dollars. This might seem high, but it's less than some of the rocking chairs at the Real Mother Goose, and it all came with a lifetime warranty that I doubt we will ever use. Thank you Wood Castle!

The last few times I've been in over the years since, the employees lack of service has made me leave without purchasing. I tried again today and I didn't think it could get worse. There was no acknowledgment when we entered or even when we approached the desk. My husband asked if they had Murphy beds and the disinterested sales man said nope and went back to staring at his computer. We wandered the store looking for alternative options. An elderly couple who could barely walk approached the sales man and asked for dining room sets. The man pointed up and said 2nd floor. He didn't offer any other help. I told the couple in front of the sales man that there was an elevator lift that the salesperson could take them up. The salesman didn't say anything or offer. The couple shuffled off looking for the lift. I caught up to them and told them the salesman would need to take them up. They decided to just leave since they weren't offered help. Yes, there were two employees there so it wasn't a matter of not being able to get away from the desk. Beautiful furniture but no one to help you or to at least act like they give a flip. 2/07/2026

Not sure why but it is just me and my husband using it and every time I wipe it down I notice another part that is peeling off in small chips. Workers are incredibly friendly and helpful and we never felt rushed or pressured to get anything. We were looking for a couch and were told about the benefits of various couches, including lifetime warranty, and asked about what we wanted from the couch (nothing too soft but not incredibly firm). Delivery and set up was a reasonable cost. There is a return policy but be aware that you would need to pay for the truck again. They will price match so it's a nice one stop place to shop for your furniture needs.

I originally wrote a raving review for Rife's in Corvallis, Oregon because of the superior customer…read moreservice, but now I must write one for the Stanton couch and sofa I bought. I was concerned about the fabric on the sofa because of the low pile on the fabric, but I was assured that it wouldn't flatten after some use. Well, after only a couple months of sitting on it, the fabric has flattened and won't refresh to look like it was when new. Their solution? Just brush it with my hand or turn it over or move it to the other side. The cushions are heavy and to move one you have to lift the back cushion and push the bottom cushion under it at the same time. This is easier said than done. It is painful when you trust someone as I did in this store, and then to find out I was naive to do so. Not only that, the cushion I sit on the most has sunk down over an inch from the one next to it. My previous couches were about 16 years old before I noticed any wear on them! With Stanton it's only been a couple months. None of what I'm experiencing is covered by warranty. I can only imagine what I'll be dealing with over time. The pillows that come with the couches are so firm and huge that you can't put them behind your back while sitting or you will be seated much too forward off the couch. I was told I could pull the stuffing out, so I did. Now the end where the zipper is is rippled because the stuffing is inserted by machine and it's near impossible to get it even and firm as it is when new. They never should have told me I could pull the stuffing out to make the pillows thinner this way. What I've written is basically cosmetic, but to spend over $1000 per couch and have the cushion sink and look worn should not happen in such a short time!
