Friendly staff and food is always very delicious and filling. Atmosphere is always very warm and inviting for all occasions.

Every now and again the Mister and I take a leisurely drive north along the lake. This time that drive took us through Manitowoc and we decided to stop for lunch here. The Courthouse has great reviews and it was in a ton of B-roll in the Making A Murderer series. It was a Saturday, so we didn't see any legal types debating questionable forensic practices but we did get very friendly, helpful service at the bar. They brew their own beer, so the Mister tried a German variety that he liked ($5 pints). There's also a brief but well chosen wine list and a full bar. You can most certainly get a burger here but the Courthouse definitely elevates the classics and also adds in some unexpected things. We started with cheese curds which have a feather light house beer batter and come with raspberry sauce. The sweet and salty mix was great and a nice change from the typical ranch or marinara. He had a special panini of roast beef, cheese and some other tasty stuff I can't recall - again, a winner. I had the prime rib French dip which is served in a hollowed out French loaf - that way all the juices stay in the sandwich and it's way less messy to eat - brilliant! I especially liked that my sandwich came with a fresh slaw of cabbage, carrots, Brussels sprouts and kale. Unexpected, but it was a nice change from greasy fries! We shared the shrimp and crab dip for an appetizer. It was very good! I also had the pub burger with mushrooms and swiss cheese. Also very good! And my burger was cooked and seasoned perfectly! My gal pal and I had dinner at the Courthouse Pub last night, as usual the service was great, friendly, accommodating. My girlfriend had the cherry chicken and she said that it was outstanding. I tasted her risotto and I thought it was the best I ever had. I had the pepper and crusted pork tenderloin, and I can't rave about it enough. Done to perfection and the chutney on the side was just perfect with the pepper on the outside of the tenderloin. It was excellent well worth the five stars I gave it. read more

I have never been disappointed with a meal here, the menu is creative, fresh, with different options being introduced all the time. For a place with "pub" in their name, this place acts very uppity. I walked in with a date without the understanding that reservations are common here - but the place was nearly empty. The host hassled me about needing a reservation. I asked if we could just sit at the bar. They offered a seat at a small corner table. I regret taking that offer. Going to another place would have been a better idea. The food and drinks were not worth the hassle. It wasn't anything spectacular. The beer I was served was totally flat. We were passing through and were so lucky to find this gem. Service was perfection. Even with a baby crawling around, they were so patient and sweet. Super cozy and chic inside. Some outdoor seating that we saw as we were heading out. The bruschetta was delicious. Salmon was cooked perfectly. This is likely one of the nicest restaurants in Manitowoc. We came here with relatives who live in town and highly recommended the pub. It's right across the street from the courthouse, hence the name. It's also a historic structure and a giant mural, made from an ancient print of the building, is above the back bar. The staff seems very outgoing to everyone, but it was also obvious our hosts are regulars judging from the way everyone greeted them. The wine and beer menu changes, so you cannot believe photos you might see on Yelp. The food menu is on both sides of a single card but not to worry, there are plenty of choices for you. The photos on Yelp give you a pretty good idea of the offerings. The portions are generous but not so large that an average appetite cannot finish them. Each couple started with grilled shrimp and mushrooms off the appetizer menu; greatly enjoyed! Entres included the Slow Roasted Pork Shank, Mediterranean Scallops, and Brie Chicken. As usual, I ordered off the appetizer menu, including the soup of the day and (three) scallops. For me, two spoonfuls of the soup took care of my sodium intake for the month. I sent it back as unedible for me, although two of my table mates tried it and found it to be fine. I guess it's just my weak taste buds. (Note to self, don't ever order soup in a restaurant.) My scallops might have been a little overcooked and a bit chewy. The roasted pork shank was fine and quickly devoured, as was the Brie Chicken. The scallops were also fine, and there was enough pasta leftover that it was taken home. We get to Manitowoc a couple of times a year, and Courthouse Pub will be on our list of places to return to. read more

Loved this stop on our trip to town. The cheese curds are yellow cheddar, which was new to this novice curd lover- I've only had white. So let's talk about the roasted corn salad. Excellent. As Courthouse Pub appears to be by far the most highly acclaimed restaurant in Manitowoc I certainly had to give it a go, but even with my expectations hedged a bit by local relatives in the area who said it isn't what it used to be, I found the meal just okay. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? I will say Courthouse Pub balances a nice service and atmosphere, and I wasn't surprised to hear that it's the go-to for business dinners and family nights out alike. Our service was very strong, and as you'll see even when the kitchen dropped the ball a bit the recovery was pretty seamless. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? $21.00 for my French Cut Chicken entree wasn't unreasonable, although I'll point out that the portion of chicken was surprisingly small. Even so, the french fries saved the day on the value front. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? So my chicken was good, although nothing that I couldn't pretty easily find elsewhere, and kudos to the fries for being a cut above the standard pub fries that are pervasive this day and age. Now, my real gripe here came in the form of my dad's entree, which was a gigantic cut of pork that came out... room temperature at absolute best. We told the server, who agreed, and whisked it away to be replaced by a new cut within maybe ten minutes. A good recovery, but such experiences make you think a bit about what else might be overlooked. Single Star. Star 5: Would you be excited to go back? Had one of the worst meals I've ever paid $$S for - only ate a bit of it - even a bottle of wine didn't make it more palatable. AWFUL. Just saw a pic on their FB page showing what my meal was supposed to look like...wow. My husband and I were there September 1st. Take a look at the attached photos! The first photo is what my entrée was supposed to look like - the next two are what it actually looked like. It tasted as bad as it looked. The pork was disgusting - salty. overcooked and an unappealing shade of gray. The spring peas looked as if they'd been eaten before. I can't believe that a restaurant of this caliber would this to a customer. Their food isn't cheap; I don't mind paying if it's better than something I can make at home. Unfortunately that was not the case and with the tip, I spent $150 on something that should have been thrown in the trash. I recommend that you go to Waterfront Wine Bar instead; it's a bit expensive too, but the food is amazing - well worth the money! read more

A nice local restaurant located in downtown Manitowoc right across from the County Courthouse swerving classic American food and drink. We stopped in on a busy Friday and we're glad we had reservations for our party of 5. We were seated in the main room that also houses the bar in a soaring space. The menu includes all the classics from steak to shrimp to chicken, but this being a Friday in Wisconsin, we all had fish. Stuff they are doing right (in my opinion): -quality of the food was great -a really nice touch is they offer their entries in two sizes -regular and "right sized" (a somewhat smaller portion that also omits the bread and soup/salad that comes with the entrees or as my dad used to say "without the filler"). -portions are generous -the fish fry with its ligh crispy batter came with 4 large brat-sized pieces of fish, crispy fries and superb coleslaw (plus soup/salad and warm roll). Right size came with three slabs of fish, fries and slaw which was still more than my wife could finish. -personal touch-the owner was making his way around all the tables greeting and chatting with people making sure everyone felt welcomed Opportunities: -service was a little sparse the night of our visit- they likely could have sold us an additional drink or two as our glasses were empty well before the food arrived and we only were asked about more drinks when our server brought the meal and then we were half done by the time the 2nd round arrived. Overall this place has great food and is deserving of their strong ratings. That said, to truly be 5 star, service needs a boost. read more

I found myself in Manitowoc on business for a few days and wanted to experience some of the best this small midwestern town had to offer. After asking for a recommendation of the top restaurants in the area from the night clerk at the hotel, she enthusiastically recommended "The Courthouse Pub" and told me this place is the best of the best of all the restaurants in the area. I arrived around 7:15 PM on Tuesday and found the place about half filled, the atmosphere was pretty laid back and I found the bar mostly vacant so I grab a seat on the short side of the bar. I was greeted by the bartender (sry forgot her name) she took my drink order and provided me with a menu and told me about the day's special. The menu is rather simple and not very exciting but the food is pretty good - the cheese curds are amazing and the service was outstanding. Cheese Curds - served with a raspberry sauce -these delicate curds are everything you'd want in a fried cheese curd this is a must try if you decide to stop in if only for a beer. Chicken Cordon-bleu Soup - perfectly textured with a mild Swiss cheese blend, I was told the soups are excellent but this was off the charts good. Norwegian Salmon - served with asparagus and lemon wild rice, I don't know if I'd do the salmon again it was a little dry and just not well represented in the presentation or taste, the rice was excellent and I would recommend pairing this with a few of the other choices on the menu, and finally the asparagus was just okay as well. Ketel One Martini - well done and ice cold as it should be... I definitely would dine here again when in the area. read more

We were in Manitowoc a week ago and were looking for a decent place to eat. This one was recommended and we really enjoyed it. We were able to eat outside and the weather was good. They are right across the street from the courthouse (thus, the name). I had a cheeseburger (Standard Jury) with fries and it was great. My wife ordered the Pub Grilled Cheese with pasta salad as a side. The pasta was tender- not soggy- very good. The sandwich was great with bacon and cheese. They had a good beer selection- we tried a few samples- all good. We ended up with the Patio Pounder which is a Czech pilsner with hints of mango limoncello- very refreshing. We had originally gone to The Wharf but did not like the food selection. It had a food truck with a limited menu- more a place to drink at. The CH was just a few blocks away and well worth the walk. read more

We were traveling with friends and stopped at Courthouse Pub for lunch on our way from Algoma to the Milwaukee airport at the end of our vacation. Our friends has been to dine with you before and had only good things to say. Now, we have to say what a wonderful way to end our vacation! The atmosphere was beautiful - wonderful restoration of the property, the booths were the perfect size and distance for both very tall and vertically challenged guests to feel comfortable. The noise level was perfect so nobody had to shout to be heard across the table. The lighting was also great - no glare and enough light to see the menus without getting extra light on the situation, via cell phones. We were greeted and seated very quickly, drinks brought right away (water and tea), and orders taken just as fast. Before we knew it - all the yummy goodness was on the table. We each had different things - all beautifully presented: Purple Pockets, Shrimp and Mushrooms,  Bacon Blue Cheese Burger with regular fries, and Creamy Pistachio Gnocchi with Chicken. The vote for THE BEST of the day was the Gnocchi.   If we are ever that way again, we will make your establishment a "must stop" and will recommend it to others that head that direction as well. And was pleasantly surprised by the light batter and regular gooey cheese. The raspberry balsamic reduction needed a bit more vinegar taste, but I'll give them points for unique! Ordered the caprese salad and was underwhelmed. All the usual components, but the arugula overpowered all the other subtle components. Ambiance is subway classic, and prices are above expectation. On the way back from Door County Winter Fest last year, we decided to stop here for lunch, thanks to my Yelp app! We all enjoyed our experience and decided to lunch here again this year, especially since another place recommended by Yelp was closed. Last year, I ordered the Bourbon Bacon Burger and Ginger Pork and Rice soup. The soup was good, even though I though the ginger flavor was a bit too subtle. The burger was excellent because bourbon and bacon! Yes, the burger was seasoned well and cooked perfectly and the bun to meat ratio was solid. It was just great! This year, I ordered the Pretzel Bread French Dip Sandwich ($11.25). I could choose pasta salad or fries, or I could get a half sandwich with soup. I stuck with the fries, although the pasta salad that my friends ordered with their sandwiches looked really good! IT seemed to have a creamy texture and they enjoyed it. My pretzel roll was soft and didn't get soggy from the jus of the hot roast beef. The roast beef was very tender and served hot, not just warm, which was impressive, considering there were 16 of us and all of our food came out together! The beef was topped with sautéed onions and melted provolone cheese. It was delicious! I rarely even dipped the sandwich in the jus because it was so good without it. I will say I though the jus was maybe a tad too salty. I normally don't like battered fries, but these were seasoned nicely and fairly crispy on the outside with a soft center. I liked them and would likely order them again. One person in our group ordered the fried Pub Cheese Curds ($7.25) which were lightly battered and served with a raspberry balsamic dipping sauce. The curds were a bit greasy, but still really good, and the dipping sauce was great unless you don't like sweets. I tried one curd with the sauce and one without and enjoyed both. Two servers were assigned to our group, and they both did a great job. They broke out the tickets by couples and singles to make bill payment easier for us, and the bills were delivered to us in Parking Violation envelopes! We've had back-to-back positive experiences and I wouldn't be surprised if we dined here again next year. A spot I looked up before coming in! Went on a Saturday around 7 pm and was very happy that my boyfriend and I were done with our meals by 7:45 pm! Service was swift, pleasant and timely. The ambiance is open, cozy and intriguing for sure- (probably my favorite part)! Overall I would say the food we tried was good. My boyfriend got the seafood nachos as a meal and was satisfied (he did have a big lunch earlier)! It is very light on the cheese (only cotija crumbles) which made for a tasty, lighter version of nachos with tri-colored chips. When I had looked online prior to coming I saw that the nachos were marked GF on some menus (pictures/posted online). At the restaurant, however- only salads and gluten free bun were marked as gluten free options. Our server checked on the nachos chips (if they were gluten free or if they were fried with other gluten-full foods)- and unfortunately they are fried with other things. This means it is NOT gluten-free- and I do hope more restaurants make sure NOT to mark chips fried in a frier with gluten breaded foods as gluten-free. It is too bad they don't offer the nachos gluten free! I was very happy with the gluten free bun- was toasted nicely. I got a lobster roll-a side of asparagus and their soup of the day (crab soup). The crab soup was quite watery- like a vegetable broth base. I still enjoyed it with the little bit of crab strings in it- but it certainly was not filling. Maybe I was expecting more a chowder or cream base but it was closer to a minestrone. My lobster roll had a very small amount of lobster (which of coarse is usually expected) it was just surprising how big the celery pieces were in it- sort of off putting. It could definitely improve in flavor! My asparagus also didn't have a touch of seasoning- just simply boiled I assume. I got lemon and pepper and spruced up my asparagus. If a gluten free bread was offered as a complimentary starter or for a small charge that would have greatly improved my experience! I wasn't very full at all. :/ The food was NOT bad, though. I want to note that the drinks were generously poured! Had a spicy and sweet mango jalapeno margarita and the flavor contrast was just perfect! My husband was in town for work and I came up for a visit. As we usually do, we turned to Yelp for some recommendations and we were not disappointed. The Courthouse Pub is one of the few places my husband had not been yet so we were excited to check it out on a recent Friday evening. We bought the Yelp deal ($20 for a $30 certificate) and also checked-in upon arrival and received a free microbrew. We were just planning on drinks and appetizers in the bar thanks to a filling breakfast earlier in the day at 8th & York. We arrived around 5:30 and the place was already starting to fill up. It's a historic building and nicely decorated. We found seats at the bar. The bar also features tables and booth seating. I would definitely recommend reservations as many of the booth and tables were "reserved" when we arrived. The restaurant also features a dining room, but I highly recommend the bar area. I ordered the Arrowood Chardonney which was featured for $6.50 a glass. My husband sampled several of their beers (they are a brewery and brew several styles in house) before selecting the Japanese style lager. The menu looks great, but we stuck with just appetizers on this visit. We ordered the sizzling artichoke hearts and cheese curbs. The artichokes breaded and fried artichoke hearts were served on a sizzling platter in a pool of garlic butter. They were great; however, I would actually prefer they were served without the butter. A mild, wasabi ranch was served on the side (could have definitely used a little extra wasabi as it was missing any sort of kick). The cheese curds were your standard fried, Wisconsin nugget. According to the menu, it was a housemade beer batter, but we didn't detect any beer flavor whatsoever and they were also pretty greasy (yes, it's fried cheese, but it seemed like the fryer wasn't hot enough and we had to use several napkins to drain the cheese curds before eating). The best part was the raspberry balsamic dipping sauce that came on the side. My husband was skeptic, but was immediately one over. When it came time to check out, they completely screwed up our Yelp deal, but it totally worked to our benefit so no complaints on our end. Our one complaint was that both bartenders on duty totally lacked in personality. It was our first time there and it would have been helpful to learn a little about their beers as we sampled them, but neither bartender was up to chatting. We visited from Milwaukee about 11 years ago and enjoyed it so much we vowed to return and finally did. It's still just as great as it was then. A nice mix of sandwiches and entrees. My family had the miso bowl, hanger steak, and two of the burgers. We all enjoyed our food. I had a cocktail and it was just right - not too boozy, not too wimpy. Our server, Eric, was attentive and answered questions about the food. I had asked if the pasta could be made less spicy by reducing the peppers and he was honest and said if I don't like spicy, I wouldn't like the pasta no matter what. I appreciated the honesty and had the hanger steak cooked medium rare at his suggestion. It was delicious! Tables are nicely spaced out and its at a main intersection - walkable to many other nearby places and the plaza of the actual courthouse across the street. Went to dinner here on my first night in Wisconsin on a business trip. Downtown Manitowoc is quiet in the evenings and there are not a lot of people around or places to go, especially if you dont want to eat or hangout in places that are primarily bars. The Courthouse is directly across the street from the actual county courthouse, architecturally a beautiful building. When you walk in, you're in a warm, inviting space with a huge mural behind the bar with an old timey photo blown up to life size. It's striking and perfect. The room is painted a warm golden maize color that makes the room feel more cozy than it should with tall, tall ceilings. The bar dominates the main room but there are also tables scattered and most of them were full when I arrived with two co-workers around 6:30 on a Monday. We shared a couple of appetizers. Cheese curds, of course, because Wisconsin, which came with an amazing raspberry sauce. I ordered the Bloody Mary shrimp cocktail, which came garnished with an olive, marinated mushroom and a Brussels sprout. The shrimp were perfect. I loved the garnish and I drank the bloody Mary dip in the bottom of the glass the app was served in. For dinner, I had a beautiful thick grilled pork loin chop that was served over a mix of sauteed Brussels sprouts, apples, potatoes and onions. It was a perfect Autumn dish on a 90 degree fall day. The pork chop was 1.5 to 2 inches thick and was cooked to be perfectly done and juicy. It was a huge portion of food and I couldn't finish it even though l wanted to. Service was friendly and attentive. When the diet coke I ordered came to the table flat, our server (cute hipster guy with amazing hair whose name I cannot remember...Evan? Eric?) brought me a can and poured it into a fresh glass for me. The prices were extremely generous for the food we were served. Next time I am in Manitowoc, I will be returning. read more
