Great Lake to go kayaking and hiking!! Park employees were friendly and very helpful. They explained the new covid rules to us and allowed us to enter without a reservation. But after witnessing how active the hiking paths were, I can see how they could reach capacity quickly. It wasn't overcrowded by anyone's standards, just more active than I have ever seen this park to be. Rented a kayak (with life jacket & vest) for two (2) hours = approx. $32. And they were pretty lenient on the time by rounding up in the hour. If you have any issue with the an old school over the neck/strap around the back/single buckle in front, orange life vest (hope that paints a clear enough picture), then bring your own. All of the equipment was well maintained and clean, including the bathroom facilities.

Merry Christmas! Didn't want to waste the day by staying secluded at the apartment all day. I…read morewanted to go hiking and to enjoy a cigar next to a campfire. All accomplished...woohoo! The only drawback is I had to rent a campsite for the day in order to get a fire blazing. Kind of sucked since I wasn't planning on spending the night. Oh well! It was all still worth it as I supported nature and TPWD. The hiking trails were challenging and invigorating. Thankfully they were also very clearly marked. They were a challenge with all the natural rock and rock cliffs. Penitentiary Hollow was the main attraction of the hike. Wow, Lake Mineral Wells rocks with awesomeness! Please camp here!

MY COMFORT PLACE!! So affordable with plentiful belay options. Auto belay is my preferred climbing…read moretype, so this place is the perfect for me. It does get hot, so wear light. They have those big industrial fans to help with the heat, so feel free to sit near those when you rest. Bouldering is limited, but enough to satisfy the passion. I usually go on weekday afternoons, so it's not crowded at all. I can't speak for weekends and evenings, though. They're closed at the moment due to an unexpected rooftop fire, so I hope they open soon (safely) so we can continue and support this amazing gym.

Had an incredibly fun, SAFE and exhilarating time at DYNO ROCK today…read more As you park, don't get discouraged by the external part of the building. You're there to climb, not host a wedding. The entrance is located on the other side of their private parking lot adjacent to Front Street. Upon entering the facility, we were immediately welcomed by Josh, who helped us with filling out the safety disclosure stuff. We were put into our harnesses and whisked away to safety training. He scaffolded the instructions so well, a dummy could do it. Before he let us off on our own, he had to observe me and my friend get up the wall correctly climbing and belaying the correct way. Once we passed the test, we started choosing different walls to climb. Neither of us had ever climbed before, but we were fit enough to get to the top of a few rookie walls which boosted our egos to try the more challenging walls. Big mistake. Lol. Can't wait to go back!! Sn: This is a very kid friendly place. I'd say 5+ would be comfy here. Happy Climbing :)
