Marais is an excellent choice for a neighborhood to stay while in Paris. Central, clean, lovely cobblestone streets and great restaurants and shopping. If you can afford to stay on Place des Vosges, then definitely stay at either Cour des Vosges or Le Pavillon de la Reine. The only advantage I can see of Le Pavillon de la Reine, is that it has a beautiful and spacious lobby/reception and indoor/outdoor seating area for drinks or coffee. By contrast, the lobby of Cour des Vosges is tiny, barebones and unimpressive. However, its rooms are both modern and Old World at the same time and the staff is VERY attentive to your every need. Either hotel would be a good choice. We enjoyed Cour des Vosges very much. If you can afford a suite, you should go for it. Our Junior Suite was out-of-this world and included interesting furniture and seating areas, 2 large windows overlooking the square, a fully stocked wet bar, desserts in the frigde and ice brought to the room every night - they literally thought of everything. If a suite is not in your budget, the smaller rooms upstairs I'm sure are lovely too - every room looks out onto Place des Vosges, for a truly unparalleled view every morning. The only real downside of the room we had was, while it was incredibly stylish, in a few ways it was form-over-function. The toilet area had only one VERY tiny light near the floor, making it impossible to see anything when you are doing your business. Also, because the building is from the 17th century, while the bathroom was trés chic and stylish, the rain shower had barely any water pressure. I suppose it's all about tradeoffs. read more
