Matcha latte
Justine D.

Such a cute new coffee shop Very Instagram/TikTok worthy - every corner is a photo op. I tried the iced matcha latte and it was okay. Earthy and a little thick, maybe because of the oat milk. Not bad, just not my favorite matcha. Still excited to come back and try other drinks. Love seeing new spots like this pop up!

Double strawberry matcha
Audrey L.

Great matcha and other fun drinks! I got the double strawberry matcha and it was really good - the matcha was smooth and creamy. I also tried the coke and cream spro. This is a really unique drink and also delicious! The drinks are pretty pricy, about $8 each.

Banana's N' Cream Matcha

The matcha was genuinely good. However, did not have the banana cream flavor. Just tasted like milk. Cute coffee shop, parking not very accessible (street parking). Definitely a great place to work and study or what we call lock in now a days. The ambiance and theme of the coffee shop was nice, food looked good all though I did not purchase any.

Drink was yummy! The staff were all very welcoming and friendly! Definitely want to come back to try their strawberry matcha since I heard it's a hit. I love the space too! It's not loud and looks like a good spot to study or get some work done

Bananas n Cream Latte

Coming back to say I still LOVE this place and especially enjoy the bananas n cream drink. I've had it with both matcha and espresso and it never disappoints. I also love how friendly the staff is when I stop by on my way to work. All the people I've interacted with are kind and seem to genuinely care about their customers and providing a warm and welcome atmosphere.

Currently my favorite matcha spot in Santa Monica. I go at least once a week! The staff are super welcoming and kind. The matcha is so good and I like that they have nonfat milk as a milk option!

Rosemary Passion Fruit Espresso Tonic

A brand new spacious location in Santa Monica, Couplet has truly mastered fun and creative signature drinks. I'm so excited to try the rest of their menu! Their baristas are incredibly friendly and will take the time to help you find your perfect drink. They're also pretty efficient and there's never too long of a wait. For the quality of coffee/matcha you get, it's pretty reasonably priced in LA. Their specialty drinks are ~$7-8. Definitely worth the splurge. This is a recently renovated space, so there is a bunch of indoor seating with lots of natural light, outlets, wifi, a communal table, and a few outdoor tables. An amazing place to get some work done! In terms of parking, there is only street parking is available and is sometimes a little tricky to find during the week, so I highly recommend walking if you can.

The matcha was pretty good I got a strawberry matcha. The service was excellent. It was just very crowded as expected for a Saturday morning. Overall a good spot if you are in the area.

I love trying new spots around my neighborhood and this was a very cool coffee shop. I went here Saturday morning. I got the strawberry sensation and a chocolate croissant. Both of them were delish! I told my family and friends about it too and will def bc coming back to try different drinks. Also the staff who work here are super friendly and nice.

Decor

Love the decor and the trendy vibe, but the service needs help. One staff member was doing the work of three people and looked burnt out. The food and drinks were also a bit of a letdown--the everything bagel with cream cheese was just okay, and my hot latte wasn't hot. Great place for the 'gram, but maybe not for a quick or high-quality meal.

Carolina C.

The presentation of the food and drinks is impeccable! I got the strawberry matcha, which I was not a huge fan of. While I enjoyed the cream top with the bitterness of the matcha, the strawberry syrup did taste a bit like medicine to me. I am intrigued by the other drinks options, though. This combined with the amazing decor; I am most definitely tempted to return! It's a big space with colorful art and aesthetic :)

The only reason for this comment is the sandwich was graced with a pickled carrot. A pickled carrot! Consider tossing some fried capers into the tuna salad. The texture and crunch would serve as that tiny surprise. Again, it's fantastic as is. We took a baguette home to enjoy later. Tartine knows bread. Excellent texture and chew. The cottagecore lover in me was screaming internally at the perfectly cozy and beautiful ambiance. My friend and I met up for afternoon tea over the weekend and had made a reservation in advance, so we were promptly greeted and seated. Parking in the area isn't too bad; there is metered parking on Montana, but I've been lucky with finding residential street parking both times. My friend and I weren't super hungry, so we split an afternoon tea set, which ended up being the perfect amount of food. The set came with 3 sandwiches, 1 empanada, 1 scone with clotted cream and jam, and 3 sweet treats, as well as a tea blend of our choice. Our waitress recommended the Persian blend and noted that it was the most popular option. I was a little hesitant at first since I don't like ginger, but she reassured me that the ginger wasn't too prominent and that the flavors were well balanced. We ended up going with her suggestion, and she was right: it was deliciously earthy with a hint of spice. All 3 sandwiches were delicious, but my favorite savory pastry was hands down the empanada. The minced chicken filling was both tender and well-seasoned, which perfectly blended with the buttery and flaky crust. I liked that they provided chimichurri on the side for dipping! I enjoyed all of the sweet pastries as well and was particularly impressed with how rich and fudgy the brownie was. We devoured just about every last crumb of the set! Throughout the afternoon, our server stopped by routinely to check in and refill our teapot, and I appreciated her warm demeanor. At around $60, the price is a tad bit steep (especially since people usually order 1 set per person), but I don't think it's unreasonable for the experience and the area. I'm glad we were able to split a set, and my friend and I both had a lovely afternoon here. Until next time!

The bright green colors of the store front are fun and the back patio is spacious. Everyone here, including the customers are pretty sociable. I had a couple shots at the front of the bar with the staff and took a mango lassi mixed drink to the covered patio in the back. The flavor combination of this was very refreshing. It was a lil' thicker than your typical mango lassi, but the faint sweetness did a great job at masking the earthiness of the kava. It was bomb and I would have loved to order 2 but I hadn't eaten so that was not the move lol The space has their own parking lot, as well as easy street parking. The patio is nice and ambient with music playing and many boardgames available for your entertainment. The bathroom was clean and had some funny Barbie dolls on display in there. The effect of kava is mellow and puts you in a positive head space. It also does truly enhance your desire to have discussions and connect with each other. If you appreciate any of that, you will like it here for sure. Overall, the kava served at Kavahana is well mixed and the environment is curated in such a cute way, it just makes you want to come back and chill out with the homies. I highly recommend!

Unfortunately, what…read morereally holds it back is the price point and the overwhelming hype--both from long lines and TikTok buzz--that doesn't quite match the experience. The scale tips more toward the downside when it comes to the bagels themselves. The toppings aren't particularly unique, or consistent, and the bagel had a noticeably firm texture that didn't stand out in a good way. What initially drew me in--and ultimately prompted this review, my first review--was the coffee. After trying 50+ coffee shops over the past 2 years alone, I can honestly say this was one of the more disappointing lattes I've had. I ordered a whole milk latte, and the best way to describe it is simply: watery. It wasn't milk-forward, not sweet, and surprisingly not even very coffee-forward. Instead, it had a slightly herbal, almost oily, burnt-bean flavor that felt diluted with water. I also ordered the carrot cake latte, which had the same base issue. The carrot cake foam helped mask it a bit, but it tasted more like a strong sugar cookie flavor than anything close to carrot cake. In the end, giving grace, perhaps it was just a "bad barista day". Overall, it's not terrible--but definitely not worth the hype or the price. *If visiting on the weekend arrive before 9:30 to beat the line if you dare.*
